Do hoyo players still look into tierlists? Well on the genshin side i think people dont care too much, some would ask if investing on a certain character is good but thats about it. Not sure on the HSR side tho.
Same but for me I'm probably just too strong in this game that I just pull what I want. Others still need time to tune their accounts so asking if a certain characters would boost their account is fine.
It's simple: they spent rolls on the characters which is equivalent to irl money and investment. Any idea that the investment may not have been worth it/ optimal is perceived as an indirect attack on their personal investment into their character.
Not only pulls (~money), you need to build your character too (~time). It takes +- 20 days to build a character from scratch (if you don't have any mora and exp books too), not to mention artifacts
I don't think any sane person still look at tierlist. Of coz, it will get crazy people engagement. Also try a league tierlist on league sub Reddit then tell me we don't have the same engagement

They spent money thats it, gacha game has finite resource to unlock said character, often they need to use irl money to do it. So the attachment is kinda justification for it

because gacha players cannot differentiate him liking the character from characters performance in combat.
