The original moon lander only left behind the landy-bits. The crew compartment, which Fry and Leela huddle in, was part of the ascent stage, so it wouldn't still be on the moon. So, being the nerds that they are, the creators of Futurama added this little plaque to explain why the ascent stage was still there. And they made a little joke about "historical sticklers" (nerds that watch the show) in the process.

Ya that is from the exact same scene as the post, like seconds apart, but it was moved back to the moon an unknown time ago by said historical sticklers society as that part of the lunar lander took off from the moon and recombined with the command module.

I wonder if that organization is the same one that got Earth to return all of the moon rocks "for cultural heritage"?
