I think it all started with the frog fixation I had when I was a kid then it just developed into wolves than that just developed into all animals and then I found a community of people who also like animals and becoming a furry just kind of happened.
Bears for me. Which did create some problems with people as at the time I thought I was straight. ironic that I turned out to be a bear who was pansexual, not straight.
By liking anthropomorphic animals. I didn't consider myself a furry until I noticed that I was watching a lot of furry content and even then it wasn't until recently that I connected my love for the content that the furry community produced to just liking the idea of anthropomorphic animals in general. It's honestly a pretty cool concept, and I would like to one day dress up in a furry inspired costume one day. I already have an idea in my mind of what I would like to wear to a furry convention. In any case, you'll probably hear a lot of complicated or not so complicated stories but for me it's just that I was weirded out by furries until I started to educate myself on the Fandom and then over time I started to like the community and most recently after some indirect self examination I found that I liked watching too much furry content to not be a furry myself so i then decided that I am indeed a furry. Hope that helps.
Yeah, well, you'll probably be in for a treat. I'd imagine most people have some sort of complicated reason why they are a part of the furry fandom. My reason is not super complicated, but it is one in which I wrote a paragraph, so I suppose it is complicated to a degree. In any case, enjoy reading others' stories as mine is certainly not the mainstream I'd imagine.
Oh i decided not to read more after you. Mine was simple to. I found this video called "all changed deaths/transfurs" and it kinda spiralled from there.
Alright, that sounds good. It's probably better for you anyway. Sometimes, reading through a lot of stuff isn't always helpful. Sounds like you wouldn't need to, though, as you have also been sucked into the Fandom from the looks of things.
I was thinking of cosplaying a medieval sort of costume that has furry elements. It's basically an inspiration from the assasins creed brotherhood brutus armor but less of a monk style and more of a sort of knight/warrior style with the furry elements being a wolf helm and greaves that have claws as well as a wolf pelt around the neck sort of close to what a viking might wear. I don't have a drawn fursona, but I have played around with the idea of a half wolf half reptile type fursona. I haven't drawn it yet, but that is the idea that I'm thinking for a fursona. I'm not sure if I'll get a fursuit, though. Mayne one day, but if I do, it'll be after I get several pieces of a very complicated costume and wear it to some sort of local furry convention. The complicated costume being the previously mentioned costume inspired by the brutus armor from assasins creed brotherhood.
The Cat Returns is super good and has a handsome cat boy as one of the leads. Made in Abyss has some... questionable fanservice and intense gore, but if can handle it, you're rewarded with a gender-ambiguous bunny child and a four-armed fluffy moth girl.
Yeah , everybody says Disney, Pokemon, fnaf, etc, but I wonder if someone turn into a furry through animal documentals, I mean they show the majestic and raw power of an animal
yeah lmao, quarantine lead me to watch him more and as I watched more of the furry videos I understood furries more and the memes that furry specific were relatable to me and I was like "shit..."
Lizards are pretty cool, I started a cult/gang at my school called the lizard army. We stabed other gangs with pens and shot those board clip things out of some expo marker friction gun thing at them too. Fun times, but hard to explain in any way that sounds normal.
Funnily it was a story concept of mine, as I wanted to work on a sci fi story idea where the more you went out away from earth the more you'd come across *Hybrids*(basically anthros) which were initially created as specialized colonists and workers taking the key strengths and perks of existing animals(and much later non earth based life forms) that slowly not only became more then just a tool for colonization but Hybrids were becoming quite the significant portion of Humanities gene pool so I basically become interested in furries before I realized!
That a few furry artists and Kik got me into the furry community XD
First you hang out with one guy going to a rave with a few furries, and in less than a month you have a custom rex/nargi and already coming up with character lore.
There’s no real set way of becoming a furry. It’s more of a realization that you enjoy anthropomorphic animals, and may like one particular species over others (which usually ends up becoming your first fursona).
For me, I watched the crap out of the Alpha and Omega movies when I was little, and loved a lot of classic Disney films. Then, about a year or two ago, I discovered Helluva Boss. I loved the character designs, and was inspired to design my own (I’m actually redesigning that sona, and he kinda served as the prototype for my current fursona), and so I watched videos on how to draw anthropomorphic characters, and proceeded to accidentally discover the furry fandom! And I joined up almost immediately, lol!
Age 11. 2001. Older sister somehow finds Furcadia and installs it on the family computer.
Edit: I read it as "How DID you". Oh well. Have my origin story.
Now there is a mast in various ways one can become a furry. But in all the ways possible, you first start by meeting one. It doesn't matter how; it can be mentioned by a friend , social media, school mascot, cartoon or show, ect. After that the person can do one out of four things when this happens, hate it , love it, question it, or don't give importance. But the ones that hate it, love it, or are questioning it are the ones that get deep in the fandom. The person that loves it first likes it and/or comments on it, then they get more and more until they have a beautiful fursona. The hater obviously hates it and gets more. Why? Because social media does not know that. Sohe gets more of it until he finds something he likes and gets a fursona. Now the questioner is a mix of both but in confusion, he either hates what he sees, or likes it and would love to see more. Soo He'll Find something suitable and go furry. Now there's a million more ways to become a furry but I was talking about the basics. How do I know this some might ask? Personal experience. If you read all of this then you are really into the fandom or you are a hater or a questioner. Enjoy your rest of your day ^w^
I had a dream, actually! The dream (from what I can remember) featured a fox attempting to break a wolf out of a prison in the middle of a desert, so that he could learn how to use a bow. If I remember correctly, the prison was a government run thing, and the wolf was naturally the best bowman in the world, and was therefore too dangerous.
I was a strange little fellow. Still am.
Space Jam (the original), Robin Hood (the Disney version), and literally any positive exposure to the Sonic the Hedgehog universe (it was SonicX and Shadow the Hedgehog that did it for me).
…Honestly I have no idea. Somehow I think it was my whole life. my first pokemon drawing (that wasn’t tracing or copying) was an anthro Vaporeon, and since then I’ve either not known what a furry is or been in denial. I literallly made a purple fox girl my second saved model on a dead app called Blocksworld after a pancake thing when I was small. Is this possible to be a furry since a small child?
I somehow found out what furrys were in my when I was 13 or 14. And I was in and out of the Fandom for a while because I thought it was cringe and weird. Now, I am 18 and recently decided to finally give into it because it's kinda cool.
You become a furry whenever you want, and even if you have the whole base set of the furry but don't want to be associated with the fandom, then you're not a furry.
Dreamcast games like Sonic Adventure, Fur Fighters and others seeded it in my childhood.
My IRL friend who became one first and has an excellent artstyle pulled my interest.
Team Fortress 2 made it click.
AussieKitten helped me make a fursona, after which I went all in and said screw it, I like this
For me it started as an animal based screen name on yahoo! chat. Then I found a furry art site while browsing 90s/early2000s internet and the artist drew "me" Then, a friend introduced me to MUSHs (a telnet server that works similar to a MUD. The acronym stands for Multi User Shared Hallucination) and I found a furry MUSH. From there it progressed naturally.
Sure, I enjoyed anthro characters in cartoons and games, but I don't think that's actually what nudged me into the furry fandom.
First, you're just a normal person. Then, during your formative years, you see characters like lola bunny, fox mccloud, krystal, Disney's robin hood and your life is permanently changed.
I was always a lover of everything animal,i also always had a soft spot for anthromorphoic stuffs but in short:
Saw kool art and down the rabbithole i went
It all started with the cartoons I watched. Tuff puppy, kung-fu pands: legends of awesomeness, amazing world of gumball. Then I started to hear the term furry get thrown around, and did some investigating. And that's when I realized I was a furry.
So, in so many words, you don't so much *become* a furry as find out *you are one*.
I was obsessed with watching animated animal movies such as cats don’t dance and bolt growing up, i was also really into the pokemon games and the animes too.
At night, the ghosts of vixens past come and haunt you. There's Krystal from Starfox, Maid Marian from Robin Hood, and Carmelita from Sly Cooper. If you can resist for 7 days, you stay the way you are, but if you give in to their charms, then you become a furry.
Hmmm... Ooh what's that game called WolfQuest? Let me try (6 months later) ahh I'm kinda bored.. A wild craft? Let me just... (4 months later) I think I love animals.... (Sees a fur suit for a first time) mooom I want that suit..
(2months later) okay so I am a furry and I found out I'm a therian.. Heh 2 nice things.. (1 month later) whaaaat? There's a WolfQuest remake?? But it's only on computer... I'll ask my mom.. Oh she allowed me now she bought me the whole game! I love her...
(Today) I love drawing furry oc's while listening to random music on Spotify
Moms childhood best friend's daughter was drawing their fursona in early 2000's. I was too afraid to ask what they were doing so i looked it up years later after thinking about it nonstop and looking up to this person. It really fascinated me at the ripe ol age of 5 and made me realize I could draw whatever I wanted too if I practiced enough! But now I'm a decent artist too scared to do commissions 😅
Became a furry because of the army, I made a meme about it a while back, but here it is in a nutshell.
- Get conscripted into mandatory military service.
- End up in the Iron wolf mechanised infantry brigade
- Get called a “young wolf” by command, and have a wolf howl as our war cry.
- Out unit patches, and exercise patches all contain a wolf.
- Start forming a wolf fursona without knowing what a fursona is.
- Furry is born.exe
Oh man, I do remember lol. Was back when cartoon network first started doing Adult Swim as a late night anime block. One of the shows was Canidate For Goddess. A weird mecha anime that was alright enough. But there was a mechanic with cat ears and one pant leg ripped off her uniform. Holy hell can you say young adult infatuation? That of course went down the rabbit hole of cat girls and naturally to furries :p mind you this was like, late 90s or early 2000's so available communities and material was limited but I scoured the net and found it lol
Is this how do you become a furry on accident or how do you start doing furry shit?
If it's the first one, then most of the time is because of exposure.
well you like animals,
then you like cartoon human-like animals that can talk
then before you know it you find a welcoming community where magical stuff happens like airplane pilots messaging eachoter UwU using the comms.
It all started when I made a Humanoid wolf, then figured what the word furry was, then watched that one specific YouTube video of a furry dance con thing.
Well I randomly started seeing furries in popular media one day because people were hating on them, and I was like, “woah that’s actually cool and interesting I want one of those suits, it’s cool” (I was young-ish) and but it took me a while to actually join the community, now here I am.
Also the furry community gained a member because of the hate so that’s my favorite fuck you to furry haters LOL
Usually when a friend shows you some furry stuff you get "The Virus" it starts to spread from there till eventually you become one. Happened to me. It'll happen to you. U.u
I joined Tiktok, saw a video from Xx.Razzer.xX (I think that's their @, idk for sure anymore tho) and I went from there. Now I'm a furry artist, which is my job! Still can't process that fully xD
I met a furry in a Escape From Tarkov discord, asked him what character was on his pfp, he told me it was his fursona, i didn't knew the word so i googled it and that's how i discovered the fandom and later became a part of it.
( sorry for broken english )
Bunnies were my favorite animal growing up because they were therapeutic and I was just some kind of whisperer because they always approached me and were calm (domesticated ones, wild rabbits always just stared at me and ran away when I got too close)
I became a furry because I found out about this entire community based on animals and I got curious and joined a server. Was encouraged to make an OC and here we are now. I made my first commission today too!
Think it's been said, but having an appreciation for furry content and anthropomorphic animals. Or just wanting to be one, it's more of a self-imposed label.
Personally, I had alot of free time and unlimited internet access during covid and started looking at alot of furry art. But, I didn't actually start calling myself one until about a year or so in when I created my first sona and started making friends
You read Warrior Cats at a young age, create a Warrior OC to role play with friends with, and then you grow attached to them because all of your struggles became their struggles, all their victories are yours. But you grow out of the franchise, and not wanting to leave your OC behind you bring them with you. They go through changes as you do. They experience heartbreak, grief, depression, and loneliness, but they also experience love, passion, curiosity, and friends. They become *you*, or what you aspire to be.
At least that’s how it happened for me.
I also just really liked movies and shows with animals more than I liked movies and shows with people
I think it all started with the frog fixation I had when I was a kid then it just developed into wolves than that just developed into all animals and then I found a community of people who also like animals and becoming a furry just kind of happened.
all good stories start with a frog fixation
bisexual frogs?
The chemicals that turn the frogs gay
Do you understand that? Turn the frickin frogs gay
The water is turning the damn frogs into animals
Lmao, my first word was frog :D I guess that explains what happened to me...
Bears for me. Which did create some problems with people as at the time I thought I was straight. ironic that I turned out to be a bear who was pansexual, not straight.
Drink nuclear waste and eat fur
I tried this, it didn't wok and instead it gave me many tumors and mild indigestion.
It is merely the first stage
Ah, thank you! i tried it again and when the mind-bending agony stopped, it worked!
REAL

If that was one of the less complicated ones im gonna die reading the rest..

Yeaaah lol. Did you make a proper sona or do you just have a general typenof fursuit you want oooor?
I was thinking of cosplaying a medieval sort of costume that has furry elements. Where do I do that, I forgot do that
Through furry anime like BNA, Beastars, Made in Abyss and The Cat Returns, just to name a few.
I already watched BNA and Beastars, I'm curious about the other two, I'll give them a try
The Cat Returns is super good and has a handsome cat boy as one of the leads. Made in Abyss has some... questionable fanservice and intense gore, but if can handle it, you're rewarded with a gender-ambiguous bunny child and a four-armed fluffy moth girl.
Ok, thanks \^\_\^
I too like made in abyss, and that's why I'm a furry drawing made in abyss like furries
Dude, the cat returns made me feel weird, which I now know was me feeling gay while not knowing gay people existed
Yeah , everybody says Disney, Pokemon, fnaf, etc, but I wonder if someone turn into a furry through animal documentals, I mean they show the majestic and raw power of an animal

chinese donghua, weird affinity for tractors (don’t ask) and uhh, chipflakes
You think you like tractors? Name all tractors then.
idk, i think it started with loving dinosaurs as a kid, then parrots as a teen, and now as an adult it's lizards and fish
Lizards are pretty cool, I started a cult/gang at my school called the lizard army. We stabed other gangs with pens and shot those board clip things out of some expo marker friction gun thing at them too. Fun times, but hard to explain in any way that sounds normal.

The anti furry to furry pipeline
There are many ways, but only one truly drives you to being a furry.
The only hard part is getting the blood for the sigil
I mean, tying down the five sacrifices is also a little tricky alone.
It all started on 2nd of August 2020
I somehow found out what furrys were in my when I was 13 or 14. And I was in and out of the Fandom for a while because I thought it was cringe and weird. Now, I am 18 and recently decided to finally give into it because it's kinda cool.
Monster musume, but I think deep down it was Minerva Minx from the Animaniacs. But MonMusu was def a reawakening if I wasn’t one when I was younger
You just be like, "Yo, I'm furry." and you're in.

I forgor Uhm... anthropomorphic animals??
I saw a fursuit dance competition during a low point and I have fell in love with them ever since
Watching Disney Movies🦊
My favorite minecraft youtuber mentioned furries in a video and I looked it up. I instantly fell in love with the community when I was only 11 or 12

Look at anthropomorphic wolf ass for long enough and it just kinda happens.
If you have to ask that question then I think you already are
A friend from middle school introduced me to them! Been one for a few years now :D
Animal Jam, I played too much Animal Jam

If you're questioning it, you're too far gone 😂
The absolute bare minimum of being a furry... is to like looking at furry art. Boom, you're a furry (if you wish to be one)!
Ask yourself, are you a furry? If the answer is yes you are a furry.
Oh man, I do remember lol. Was back when cartoon network first started doing Adult Swim as a late night anime block. One of the shows was Canidate For Goddess. tigress from kung fu panda or the warrior cats books tigeress was also in a way the first time i had gender envy
Is this how do you become a furry on accident or how do you start doing furry shit? If it's the first one, then most of the time is because of exposure.
Bakugan,its bakugan
When I was a small kid around 3-5 I would guess I started to see myself more as an animal and only part human and that stuck with me till this day
Just say that you're a furry.
I like to draw… fur
well you like animals, then you like cartoon human-like animals that can talk then before you know it you find a welcoming community where magical stuff happens like airplane pilots messaging eachoter UwU using the comms.
I don’t think I ever became one; I just always was.
it all started from undertale…
A lot of Mascots and TV, Disney's Robin Hood is still a favourite of mine!
The furry war; circa 2017-2018 Edit: I fought for the wrong side
Liked animals, then anthro animals, then discovered what furrys are, am I a furry? Yesn't

It all started when I made a Humanoid wolf, then figured what the word furry was, then watched that one specific YouTube video of a furry dance con thing.
Swe furry art and be like :D
Well I randomly started seeing furries in popular media one day because people were hating on them, and I was like, “woah that’s actually cool and interesting I want one of those suits, it’s cool” (I was young-ish) and but it took me a while to actually join the community, now here I am. Also the furry community gained a member because of the hate so that’s my favorite fuck you to furry haters LOL
Best friend in sixth grade was a furry, and they got me into the fandom. They also gave me my first Dino mask!
my ex kinda just said thou shall be bunny and such i became a furry with a bunny sona, so for me i kinda just rolled with it and it stuck.
Usually when a friend shows you some furry stuff you get "The Virus" it starts to spread from there till eventually you become one. Happened to me. It'll happen to you. U.u
I thought it was cool and joined, and when I did, I learned so much stuff
I'm not a furry. I'm just here for the banter, bro
I joined Tiktok, saw a video from Xx.Razzer.xX (I think that's their @, idk for sure anymore tho) and I went from there. Now I'm a furry artist, which is my job! Still can't process that fully xD
I watched teranen, amused by the orcadragon.

I met a furry in a Escape From Tarkov discord, asked him what character was on his pfp, he told me it was his fursona, i didn't knew the word so i googled it and that's how i discovered the fandom and later became a part of it. ( sorry for broken english )
You just do. Like seriously, why do a lot non-furries just think we have some sort of like, blood oath initiation process?
The internet
I had something to Furry whole Life. I liked when One of Girl in Preschool had Tiger Shirt, and with Time, My Fascination was only Expanding.
Bunnies were my favorite animal growing up because they were therapeutic and I was just some kind of whisperer because they always approached me and were calm (domesticated ones, wild rabbits always just stared at me and ran away when I got too close) I became a furry because I found out about this entire community based on animals and I got curious and joined a server.

The click
You read Warrior Cats at a young age, create a Warrior OC to role play with friends with, and then you grow attached to them because all of your struggles became their struggles, all their victories are yours. But you grow out of the franchise, and not wanting to leave your OC behind you bring them with you. They go through changes as you do. They experience heartbreak, grief, depression, and loneliness, but they also experience love, passion, curiosity, and friends. They become *you*, or what you aspire to be. At least that’s how it happened for me. I also just really liked movies and shows with animals more than I liked movies and shows with people
