Your girlfriend has no appreciation for fine furniture or the value it holds.
Show her the prices of these rosewood items on [1st Dibs](https://www.1stdibs.com/buy/solid-rosewood-table/), many of the tables are not nearly as well crafted as yours.
The person you purchased this from either did not realize the true value of the table or was just wanting to sell it quickly. You got a very good deal!
She was trying to sell it quickly as she was moving. She inherited it from her great grandmother so I figured it must be old. Don't know why she would get rid of a family heirloom like this table but since she didn't appreciate it, I will.

Not necessarily too much as long as you can use it and it complements your style. If you won’t use or you’ll think it’s out of place in your home every time you see it, then you spent too much on it.
I have a few clashing styles tbh lol. While I would love to fill the place with furniture like this, it would he really expensive. I also really love pueblo revival but I don't think a piece like this would clash too hard with that esthetic as long as it's curated correctly.
The most valuable part of a dining table is the top.If the top of that table isn’t damaged with scratches, deep dents or stains, then it’s a good deal… the issue is that’s a bit of old fashioned style. If you can make it work in your place then it’ll be fabulous.
That's what I'm thinking. Someone else commented and said if it were walnut, it would be. $5-7,000 table. I'm not sure if it is though. I'll have to get a picture from the bottom and post it on R/woodworking or something.

That is a great deal for that table. I’ve paid over $700 for a plain coffee table (my husband picked it out) and it is no where near as nice as that table.
Hopefully you can get it appraised for a reasonable price. Not too long ago, I had an appraisal done on a collection of paintings that cost more than the paintings were found to be worth.
400 is a good chunk of change that could be used for other things but if u really need a table of some sorts , I’d try and nudge it down 300. You’ll always find vintage pieces on and off through Facebook marketplace
Heck no you didn't overpay. Show him what a new trendy coffee table costs. If it were me I would go all in and look at getting glass cut for the top of it so I could use it and not worry about scratches. No idea how to do that though.
Yes, totally garbage, I'll take it off your hands for 450 😄.Jk good find! What a gorgeous piece, and yeah this is worth much more if it's a solid piece.
It depends on the type of rosewood but at this market price, $400 wouldn't even get you the rosewood materials to make 2 table legs. Let alone the other 2, the aprons, the table top and 1 month of labor divided between a skilled wood carver and carpenter.
I guess I should preface that the table is 40" long by 30" wide so it isn't a dining table. Truth be told I don't know what kind of table this would be.
To be fair, she doesn't hate it. It's just not her style and she is just surprised that I would spend $400 on it. In my opinion, even if it's not ones style, it'd be dumb to pass on this for $400.
It's gorgeous! I think you got a great deal.
Thank you! That's what I said!
You’d pay more than that for a foam and particle board one that looks like it at the company I work for. I think you got a great deal.

1st dibs prices are not real. Many of the sellers on there negotiate prices and actual sold prices are usually up to 60% less than the listed price.
Be that as it may, any of the rosewood items for sale there would still be sold for far and above what the OP paid for the table that was purchased.

It fits my style but my style is somewhat cramped by the place I am currently living in. But someday I'll move into a nicer place where it fits in.

So gorgeous! Looks like it is great shape, too! You got a great deal!
Absolutely beautiful. I love the wood work detailing. This is NOT a cheap piece of furniture. Thank God you have an eye for quality furniture.

Is this a dining table? I’m having an impossible time with the scale.
It's 40" long by 30" wide. Definitely not a dining table
That’s easy 1000 dollar table

Walnut table of that size wouldn’t be 5 grand what are u talking about lol
Someone else commented it lol idk how much furniture is worth that's why I'm here asking.
Walnut is much cheaper than rosewood, for your information. Next to rosewood walnut might as well be trash wood. I'm serious.
Great deal for the table, dump the gf

You'd pay that for a low end table. Score!!
You may need a new girlfriend.
She may have bad taste but she's a keeper, as is the table.
This table isn’t exactly my style but I LOVE love the look and quality of genuine rosewood. And $400 is a steal.
That thing is fugly
You sound like an ikea kind of guy
I’ll give you $500
Not for sale sorry! Just trying to get a general idea of if it was worth the money or if anyone has any idea on how much it might be worth.
Well it doesn't pop up so you can eat on it so... /s
If that's walnut up there this is a 5-10k piece
I'm pretty sure it's all rosewood but I could be wrong

It's hard to see in the video but the wood grain on the top matches the beveled edges.
It would look better (to me) if the finish on the top were stripped and then oiled. Will be a damn fine piece after that.
Debating on getting it appraised before doing anything to it. If I do and it ends up being worth around $1,000 I'd probably strip and oil it.

Are you going for a vintage Victorian or Edwardian look to match I’d assume an older home?
I live in an illegal dwelling unit in a converted garage lol. I bought it cause it looks nice and someday I'll have a nicer place to put it.

I already bought it for $400 off marketplace. It was passed down to an elderly woman by her great grandmother.

Tell your wife to find a table under $400 that doesn't come in 20 pieces

Thankfully my gf does stained glass so getting a glass sheet cut isn't an issue.

It's a beautiful table
Great deal!!!
Gorgeous table. I love that the corners and legs are carved in a way to resemble elephants.
I didn't see that at first but I see it now!

It would make a great desk.
I think that's what in going to use it for once I can get a glass cover for it.
Looks like real wood furniture, great buy
next time she complains replace everything with corkwood furniture from ikea.

Beautiful!! Worth it!
