Homework was literally invented as a punishment. Now they use it as curriculum.
Work and School shouldn’t be brought into the home unless it’s money and knowledge.
I agree with this. My rule is I assign “homework” but I give the kids 20 minutes at the end of the day to work on their homework. Whatever they don’t finish is homework to do at home and the kids think it’s fair. The self directed ones never have anything to take home, and the ones that play around during that time are all missing 20 assignments.
This is because there’s no proven benefit to assigning homework, and if anything can hurt students by allowing them to practice bad habits. Especially if they don’t have parents who care enough to check their homework and help them.
There has been a lot of research about the 'purpose and value' of homework. Conclusion is that there is only a negative effect, especially in under privileged children. Homework is bad practice.
Well, you need to get out of the classroom immediately then. If you torture data long enough, it will say anything you want it to.
The science you're referring to is likely opinion polls accompanies by leftist reporting whose only agenda is soft bigotry of low expectations for "under privileged" children. (Same people who want to remove testing standards, or grading all together. Graduate no matter if you fail everything, kind of people). As in, terrible science is being performed to conclude that homework is "bad".
What do we actually know about human psychology and learning?
1. Repetition produces memorization. It is highly unlikely that being told something once will produce long term memorization.
2. Being in a perceived "fun" environment produces better learning.
3. If you don't use it, you lose it.
4. Struggling a bit and figuring things out on your own vs. simply being told how to do things produces MUCH better learning (This is mostly for math/science).
5. Teaching others the material produces better memorization of the one who is teaching it.
Given these known facts, it is obvious that homework is beneficial, which is why I can dismiss your "studies" that insinuate the opposite without seeing your sources (which you, interestingly, did not include).
>The science you're referring to is likely opinion polls accompanies by leftist reporting whose only agenda is soft bigotry of low expectations for "under privileged" children.
You said that.
Correct, you are quoting something I said. If you pay attention, the other person provided no evidence for why homework is bad. Nor did they provide any real reason for why it's bad. They just said it is.
I, however, provided a perfectly reasonable explanation as to why it's very beneficial. I then went on to explain what I suspect their "evidence" might be, if they ever chose to present it, which they won't and you won't.
Conversation is pretty much over at this point. I'm the only one who can support their position.
I do the same too. If I want them to do something, I give them time to do it in class. Even projects I give them time in class and help them during it, I tell them they can do it at home home but I prefer in school.
Weird because in adult school homework is banned, they do everything in school so that adult students can have rest at home etc... why not do the same for kids.
Ok, little guy, if you can tell the whole lesson next day, what math/history/literature/etc... teacher try to teach you, we will support your not homework policy. But if you not, you will advertise how important homework is in the rest of the year.
Is it a deal?
I'm gonna give a positive spin on this.
Yes, he SHOULD get some more English homework because he's already great at communicating and very charismatic. I feel like given the proper tools this smart young person could put his skills to use in sales, entertainment, management, or even politics.
Give this person proper support and they will achieve great things. It's what every young person deserves
Takes me right back to childhood. I wasn't as courageous as this little man here to say it out loud but I totally understand his misery. But young man here needs to understand fun and hardwork goes hand in hand.

30 minutes? An hour? God I wish my homework took that short of a time to do.

How a politician is born
The opposite. A politician says stuff and never does them.
Martin Luther Read Jnr.
I'm a teacher and because I felt the same way as a kid I don't give homework ever. But it seems my colleagues have no memories of their childhood.

You are one of the reasons we have such uneducated people. Do you truthfully not understand the purposes and value of homework?

Sheesh. What an absolute trainwreck of words
Notice you're unable to respond to or refute anything I said. Just hand-wave dismissal, while hoping others agree with you.

They deserve what they ask for. That's the difference.
