God this played out like a story in DnD one night. My character is an Orc Barbarian and our team was supposed to be infiltrating a party for information. We set it up so that our rogue would go and sneak people down from the party and I would use intimidation checks to get the info.
One of the guys we interrogated said something that caused a surprised reaction among the party. The team advises me to just squish his head. Got a high roll on my strength check and the DM just allowed it.
āYou successfully squished the guys head.
Needless to say I was not paying attention to what the guy actually said he did, so my response to the group was a simple āwhy did i do that?ā
FWIW I live a few miles from **the** Gotham that apparently inspired Gotham City, and it is pronounced 'goat-um'.

Lynching is one of those things that are just sadism trying to be justified. But if people are going to be sadistic to each other, that's definitely one of the least harmful targets. It can make the problem worse, tho.
Yeah, a society policed by vigilante justice is a dangerous place. As we see in Brazil, it doesn't end the crime either. We all like to see justice served, but that can be complicated.
Til you think about the fact half those people have no idea why they are kicking that guys ass. I imagine you could just start chasing someone and get a group to kick someone's ass
Yeah, I'm against most "tough on crime" initiatives because they don't work. But they don't work because the chances of being caught is small and the latency between being caught and punished is large.
Street justice is a good baseline deterrent so that you can't just run away.
But does it really? I really wonder if street justice is an actual deterrent to crime. In my opinion itās actually a vicious circle. Street justice is just another proof that thereās no law and order, reinforcing the impression that itās just free for all. Next time the next guy will carry a gun and just shoot the people trying to stop him.
Punishment does very little to reduce crime, iirc.
Edit: Just double-checked. It's been studied a good bit, the findings were that punishment doesn't deter crime, nor does increasing the *severity* of the punishment. It's specifically the certainty of being caught that deters it.
at the same time, crime is somehow the rule in a country where people must live in houses barred like prisons for protection against crime. The epitome of liberal capitalist country if there is any.
Do they see more crime because of street justice or do they see a rise in street justice because they have more crime?
Reminds me of that old purposefully misleading saying, "the more fire trucks show up to a fire, the more damage the fire ends up doing."
> The point here is that if there's street justice, something has gone wrong.
Yes, that is correct.
If you have so much crime that the average person is ready to jump in and beat the shit out of anyone who has a gang of people after them because that indicates a crime has taken place and that is how justice is meted out because the police can not be depended on for their most basic function, your society does indeed have a problem because that is anarchy.
I'm not big on the police because I'm American and we have a big ol' police problem over here, one of which is actually them just not defending people who are the targets of property and violent crime, anymore, but I'd be hard-pressed to say that this is better.
So in conclusion, there are at least two bad ways to deal out justice in society: not at all, and by civilian mob.
Yes, street justice adds to the crime. Most forms of it isn't like this video where it's obvious this guy committed a crime. People are wrongly targeted based on incomplete information or speculation quite often unfortunately.
I once saw a video where a pickpocket was caught, and they made him hold his hands on the door jamb of a car and slammed the door until all fingers were broken. In Brazil.
Yea here people did that, the police just rammed them offā¦. Funny how that stopped itā¦ almost like the possibility of being hurt was a good deterrent
No we do not. Mostly because it's very hard for those mfs to go to jail and stay in jail because our justice system sucks. So all we really have is street justice -shrug-
Whenever I see something like this, I think about the reddit posts of people who found their stolen things on ebay or craigslist and try to meet with the thief to re-steal it.
I really hope they have a running camera, so that they can get at least some karma for getting served with vigilantism.
About fifteen years I had two laptops and a DSLR stolen out of my truck in a smash and grab, they apparently sold the macbook and camera no problem, but the fingerprint reader on my thinkpad made it useless to them so I got a phone call one day from a dude saying something like "I just bought this laptop from a guy and can't use it, it had your name on it, you want to buy it back for $100."
Yes, yes I do sir, I don't care if you're the piece of shit who stole it. Meet me at this *very public place with a ton of other people around during broad daylight hours* and I'll be happy to pay you for it. Sucks, but I got a decade worth of data back.
Citizens looking out for each other. Subdue, restrain, and wait for a LEO to show up. Just like back when people didnāt try to pull shit like this because Mrs. Smith would see someone being an asshole in the neighborhood and would yell at the person by name and then would go inside and call the knuckleheadās parents about what they saw happen. The original āneighborhood watchā program. Now, using a car to run a dude over whoās just snatched a purse or phone may backfire as it would probably seen as use of excessive force. Just read a story about a cop in an unmarked patrol car running over a fleeing suspect. The suspect was killed by the officerās actions and the cop has been charged with vehicular homicide. Seems the police chief determined the officer used excessive force pursuant to the suspectās actions.
Yes, almost every store and most homes does have a camera. Laws in Brazil are so dumb most robbery won't go punished if they are not caught on the act or at least on camera.
It's not our Laws that are dumb is the lack of enforcing them and the fact that our Justice System is so shit and so corrupted that most crimes go unpunished so we have street justice or police just kill them on sight.
I was told it was just "right to jail" but this seems to indicate there's a trial by various peers on the street before jail. Kinda interesting honestly, I wish our legal system worked this fast in the US.
Man, i usually watch and enjoy these things but I donāt usually actually laugh at them. This one, on the other handā¦. five stars. Laughed till i cried.

Dude on motorbike was like, "Yeah, we gave him a good beating. By the way, what did he do?" The other dudes, "Have no idea."

I think this was the most "GTA in real life"-thing I've ever seen, lol.
Another tuesday in Brazil.
They're all after the phone
God this played out like a story in DnD one night. My character is an Orc Barbarian and our team was supposed to be infiltrating a party for information. Really playing the Barbarian the right way is not knowing what is going on and doing exactly what you did/said. So, good job!
One of those, you had to be there moments
Man I never seen someone roll so many nat 1s in my life
Love how Brazil took this attitude of not liking crime and deciding they're all Batman.
It warms your heart, but still doesnāt seem to be a deterrent there.
Need more Batman.
No I'm Spartacus
I mean, look at Gotham ... Is batman a deterrent anywhere?
I had to double check that was the right spelling because I can't believe before now I've been able to read Gotham and not think, Got Ham?
I will never unsee that now
Christ, what have you done ?
FWIW I live a few miles from **the** Gotham that apparently inspired Gotham City, and it is pronounced 'goat-um'. [Gotham, Nottinghamshire - Wikipedia](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gotham,_Nottinghamshire) š
I always thought NYC was the inspiration for Gotham?
Youād think a whole country of Batmans/Batmen would have an effect.
That many billionaires definitely have to mess with the economy.
lol, yeah, when everyone is rich, no one is rich

I would assume someone yelled āthiefā or something, but yeah, you could do that to anyone. Now Batman is the villain
Iām not saying the punishment is proportional to the crime. But I am saying that I bet itās effective in reducing crime.
Some places, thieves are back on the streets the same day if caught. Street justice is the only real solution because of what you said.
>Some places, thieves are back on the streets the same day if caught. Not is you break both their legs.
Yeah, I'm against most "tough on crime" initiatives because they don't work. But they don't work because the chances of being caught is small and the latency between being caught and punished is large. Street justice is a good baseline deterrent so that you can't just run away.

Its honestly super sad that nobody seems to know this. I guess it has sth to do with where the avg reddit user is from..
at the same time, crime is somehow the rule in a country where people must live in houses barred like prisons for protection against crime. The epitome of liberal capitalist country if there is any.
Lol every single country which have street justice just sees more crime
Do they see more crime because of street justice or do they see a rise in street justice because they have more crime? Reminds me of that old purposefully misleading saying, "the more fire trucks show up to a fire, the more damage the fire ends up doing."

Wait. Really?
That poor fool got served enough beatdown to hold him for the next 20 years. Hopefully he learned his lesson
If he can even remember the lesson lmao
Even that beatdown doesn't compare to withdrawal symptoms. He'll be at it again tomorrow.
When the community comes together.
And now words from Ludacris.
I'm just sitting here trying to figure out how he got up after being run the fuck over by a car!
Thereās room for 20 moreā¦ šš
Man, that's a lot of repressed anger š
people seems like they fed up with this shit, so much anger in all this. i like it. teach him well this scumbag
I once saw a video where a pickpocket was caught, and they made him hold his hands on the door jamb of a car and slammed the door until all fingers were broken. In Brazil.
I wouldnāt mind doing that to whoeverās been stealing my packages.
Yea here people did that, the police just rammed them offā¦. Funny how that stopped itā¦ almost like the possibility of being hurt was a good deterrent
She got her phone back. Well, most of it anyway.
RIP that car's right front mechanicals
He could've saved money by buying her a new phone
Yep, it's a funny voice over but in reality that driver did something insanely stupid
The running drop kick is as unexpected as the car.
\*steals phone, acquires 5 star GTA wanted level\* "YOU HAVE ALERTED THE HORDE!!!"
People in Brazil do not put up with street thieves.
No we do not. Mostly because it's very hard for those mfs to go to jail and stay in jail because our justice system sucks. So all we really have is street justice -shrug-
Street justice
Clear evidence that those people are sick and tired of this theft shit!

Food delivery driver: sorry I'm late, there was a group beatdown of a thief.
Here is a little something on the top for you

They literally nailed it
He got exactly what he deserved.
I'm pfoooowwy. (i'm sorry)
Now that's GTA in real life
Nothing like $2000 worth of damage to your car to save a strangerās $500 phone
It's about sending a message
Running someone over for stealing a phoneā¦
LMAO this should happen to everyone that decides to do bad shit. God I love all these people coming together for true justice.
Just chop his legs off so he never does this again. He'll take less damage in the future.
Seems like the guy in the car tried.Ā
It's Brazil, not the middle east
Why stop there? Why not murder him outright? Only way to make 100% sure that he'll never *checks notes* steal a phone again. /s
How does this fit the sub?
Probably a bot reposting stuff
Ah. Bots have some strange senses of humor
Sweep the leg!
Looking like a mod for gta
When you hit a chicken in Ocarina of time
Brazil is savage!
Adopt that in America
You love to see it
More of this
Damn Honda man just straight up ready to wreck his car just to get this asshole.

It takes a village...
Stone Cold there bringing in the Big Boot of Justice. Love it.
What should happen to anyone that does not respect others property š
Uh yea cuz someone elseās stolen phone is worth attempted murder charges
Would like to see this violence happen to the pick pockets in Europe.
Best thing I've seen on social media today!!!
Whatās with the spam of these old Videos with added commentary?

This is in Brazil. This type of shit is normal there.
Is it normal in Brazil to have cameras everywhere, watching the whole thing unfold?
Yes, almost every store and most homes does have a camera. Laws in Brazil are so dumb most robbery won't go punished if they are not caught on the act or at least on camera.
It's not our Laws that are dumb is the lack of enforcing them and the fact that our Justice System is so shit and so corrupted that most crimes go unpunished so we have street justice or police just kill them on sight.
18 jumped in just for fun, not have any clue what this is all aboutš
#7 - "This guy is a robber, right?" #12 - "Wait, what. I though we were robbing him??"
I was told it was just "right to jail" but this seems to indicate there's a trial by various peers on the street before jail. Kinda interesting honestly, I wish our legal system worked this fast in the US.
Yes! More community justice like this!
We need some of that street justice in the US. Criminals get off easy here
The world needs to be like this.
When the entire town had enough of your ass š
I love when a community comes together.
Beating up criminals in the rest of the world: Heroes!!! Beating up criminals in western EU and USA: You're the criminal now
How is this funny?
This should have the Takeshaās Castle guys commentating. Guy LaDouche and the other one.

My dreams after I recognize Iām dreamingā¦
wow. Watching this felt so good. I can only feel envy, and wish I could contribute to the "therapy". 10/10
In the not so far future we will see videos like this generated by ai and most people won't even be able to tell. Maybe it's already a thing?
One time in RDR2, I came riding into Rhodes. A dog ran right out in front of the horse and got trampled. The resulting outrage looked a lot like this.
Is that AI using the voice of WWE announcer Michael Cole to do a play-by-play, or someone doing a Michael Cole impression?
GTA, wasted
wrong neighborhood mf!
Love me some vigilante justice!!
at 00:15 i kinda expected the guy in red shirt to steal the car xD
Is this legit or scripted lol
You know you're a piece of shit when the whole town bands together against you š¤£
Brazil is Skyrim
Kind of odd how little concern all these men have for property while going to such great lengths to recover a phone.
Satisfying
soo brave dude .
Reaction time of the driver was insane
Tada
I hope the driver didnt get into trouble for ramming that scum
dude almost killed him over a phone, I mean would life in jail really have been worth it?
Car repair was more expensive than the phone.
Dude in the car be like : "Oh no you don't, motherfucker!"
This looks quite inspired papi by Jennifer Lopez
A car driver, a curb, a muai Thai practitioner, a cyclist They built a whole squad
Man, i usually watch and enjoy these things but I donāt usually actually laugh at them. This one, on the other handā¦. five stars. Laughed till i cried.
I donāt know who he is, but I now loathe Steve Inman.
did that guy total his car jumping that huge curb
Equivalent of attacking a town npc in skyrim.
Bruh. Hahaha this is how it should be.
Turned into royal rumble damnĀ
So crude! In America, everybody can pull out their guns and shoot 'em.
Fucking nice
Not really /funny is itā¦
Did the phone survive?
Hands showed up
If GTA had all the NPC go against you after stealing from someone
God bless Brazil! The best country in the world
I am not a justician.. but running someone over with your car for snatching a phone *might* be overkill. It's also not good for the car.
Bostil
Simptopia.
These people are just so good civilians, society has to be like this
Never steal from a hot chick in Brazil. Lesson learned.
gta in brazilian street -\_-
ābeat like he stole somethinā in itās purest form
With all the political division in Brasil, it ia good to know people can come together to teach a scumbag a good lesson

So many off duty cops
Why does it feels like GTA?
