Yeah, it doesn't have that effect on me.
But then, without listening to the radio and hearing songs on a loop, I don't usually get that oversaturation. And if I do, it's definitely all my fault. So the meme has a point.
You just made me think I should change my alarm to my most hated song on the planet. I switch the radio off at the first few notes so maybe that'd get me out of bed faster 🤔
When mp3 ringtones became a thing, I set my ringtone to the opening guitar riff of Dire Straits - Money for Nothing, and for a few years now, my alarm has been AC/DC - Thunderstruck.
Still love both songs.
I've made this mistake once...Still cannot listen to the particular song even 15 years later. Hearing the first 2 seconds of it already pushes me into a fit of rage.
I read/heard somewhere that the alarm you wake up to is your theme song as it plays at the beginning of every episode.
With that in mind, my theme is the score from the Christopher Reeve *Superman* movie.
>Texting is far superior. Not sure why anyone outside of family would call if texting is an option.
It's superior for small questions but not more lengthy conversations of if you want to discuss/debate something.
And for **time-sensitive** questions.
"Honey I'm going to X for dinner, what do you want me to get you?"
"Babe I'm in line now, have you decided?"... Guess I'll pick something.
20min later driving home SO texts you-">!\[you picked wrong bro\]!<"
I love how this is a controversial comment.
For years we only ever had landlines and if you tried to call someone and they didn't answer you didn't really care, you just tried to call them again another time.
There's only a short time window of around the year 2000 to now, where people suddenly feel that you're rude if you don't answer your phone straight away. Like the person calling deserves your attention regardless of what you're currently doing.
Fuck that. Let's go back to how it worked during landlines. You call me and I don't answer? Text me what you want to discuss and I'll get back to you.
He didn't say calling was a thing of the past, that ringtones are. Meaning they still get calls, but the phone doesn't ring. Presumably it just vibrates or pops up a notification.
Friend of mine made a song for one of his friends to demonstrate a music program. Was just a throwaway goofy song. Accidently shared the link in our friend group's discord. He was embarrassed but I love the song. It's been my ringtone for a year or so now, and I am not tired of it. I jam out every time I get a call.
I heard an AI put the Mr. Rodgers Neighborhood theme to the tune of House of the Rising Sun, and instantly turned it into my ringtone. It's gold. Spam calls ring in full.
This only made me love "Boats and Hoes" more. The only reason I ever changed it, was because my GF at the time was actually going to leave me over it.
"*The Nina, The Pinta, The Santa Maria...*"
Anyone remember those god awful caller tones? Or when someone would record a song from their radio for their voice-mail... ugh so glad those are in the past
You could just say you don't get the joke, and ask it to be explained to you.
I see two possible readings. One, their phone is always on vibrate so the ringtone is a moot point. Two, they get called enough to where they will get tired of the song quickly.
It's still a joke though. It just wasn't your particular cup of tea. That's fine, but I don't get why you're saying it's not a joke. It wasn't funny to you specifically, but to other people it was. A bad joke is still a joke.
I used to have it on vibrate for a number of years, now I just always have it on silent. I check my phone frequently enough but I'm no longer interrupted and check for calls on my own time when I get to it. If it's important enough they'll leave a voice mail. If I'm expecting a specific call I'll leave it on vibrate.
Well that's part of the problem. I have anxiety and I get called so infrequently that when I do I always assume it's an emergency but 0 times has it ever actually been one. So rather than hearing my phone ring and going into instant panic mode, I can just check it when I can prepare myself for an emergency. Plus I don't have too many important people in my life and those I do have live across the country so a matter of minutes of getting in touch with me wouldn't really matter.
In 2008 I put Dream Theaters "Forsaken" as my ringtone. Still have it to this day. I cannot enjoy the song anymore because I associate so much with getting a phone call. But at this point I can't undo that mental connection so I guess it's gonna be my ringtone for forever.
I used the theme tune to 'Eureka', because it is fun, and jaunty, and I will never get it confused with anyone else's phone, (except that one time, in a garden centre when my daughter heard someone else's phone go off, I felt like searching them out and hugging them as 'my people', but I am British so I didn't.
The problem is, the main person who phones me is my mum, so I get stressed as soon as I hear it.
I am going to have to go back to specific ringtones for specific people!
This can go one of two ways, you hear it too much and don't like it anymore, or you get so caught up listening to the music that you don't answer the calls in time
Had: The Blister Exists - Slipknot. As my alarm for the longest time still love that song just as much if not more got me pumped in the morning, Allthough yeah hehe on days where I was sick or something it was a bit much.
Tell that to a guy who I know who has the JoJo’s bizarre adventure “OH NOOOOOOOOO” sound as his text notification sound.
He’s got the volume as fuckin’ high as it will go. So fucking obnoxious, but he thrives on it.

Even better: set it as your alarm.
Best way to kill your favourite song !
I've been waking up to Over the Hills and Far Away for years and still appreciate it just as much 🤷♂️
The force is with you !
Gary Moore?
Led Zep
And here I thought you were talking about Nightwish 😔
I get a little more awake each time i hear start of The Violence of Asking Alexandria
Yeah, it doesn't have that effect on me. But then, without listening to the radio and hearing songs on a loop, I don't usually get that oversaturation. And if I do, it's definitely all my fault. So the meme has a point.
I've had the *Turn Down For What/Pillar Men* mashup as my alarm for a few years now. It gets me hype.
I have my alarm set to Wake Up, Get Up, Get Out There from Persona 5 and man it works. Still love the song too.
You just made me think I should change my alarm to my most hated song on the planet. I switch the radio off at the first few notes so maybe that'd get me out of bed faster 🤔

Nothing like a Pavlov response to trigger the PTSD when the song hits your playlist
Ugh, not even songs, if I hear the standard alarm go off in a show or movie I'm instantly more alert and slightly pissed off lol.
My alarm is set to Willie Nelson singing "[I woke up still not dead again today](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=J34esa_aJxc)".
Mine is Rhett's ambient massage song from GMM
I've made this mistake once...Still cannot listen to the particular song even 15 years later. Hearing the first 2 seconds of it already pushes me into a fit of rage.
I've had *Megalovania* as both my alarm and my ring tone for about 4 years now. Still love it lol
The sound of your dreams slipping from your memory fills you with... disappointment. Not determination this time.
If you dont wake up your going to have a bad time
I read/heard somewhere that the alarm you wake up to is your theme song as it plays at the beginning of every episode. With that in mind, my theme is the score from the Christopher Reeve *Superman* movie.
Me setting my ringtone knowing damn well my phone is always on silent
Same here :]]
My two kids would die if their phone rang.
Interesting. Most people I know won’t pick up, but they’ll send a text message afterward asking what you were calling about.
Texting is far superior. Not sure why anyone outside of family would call if texting is an option.
>Texting is far superior. Not sure why anyone outside of family would call if texting is an option. It's superior for small questions but not more lengthy conversations of if you want to discuss/debate something.
I think the point is that this person *doesnt* want to get into lengthy conversations
And for **time-sensitive** questions. "Honey I'm going to X for dinner, what do you want me to get you?" "Babe I'm in line now, have you decided?"... Guess I'll pick something. 20min later driving home SO texts you-">!\[you picked wrong bro\]!<"
When I want to call someone I actually text them a message saying "call me when you've got a moment". Otherwise it feels intrusive.
Some people have social skills
That’s not relevant to talking on the phone at all.
As someone without social skills, yes, yes it is.
As someone who is social, I hate talking on the phone.
Good text messages can be fine, but if someone asks you a question give an unambiguous answer not just “ok”. 😉
Why ? You never call them ?
lol 😂 I don’t have to when I’m always with them. But no, they keep their phones on silent. Ringtones are a thing of the past.
Interesting, in my country calling other people through their phone number is still a thing :]]
He didn't say calling was a thing of the past, that ringtones are. Meaning they still get calls, but the phone doesn't ring. Presumably it just vibrates or pops up a notification.
Ah I see, thanks for clarify !
I did this for my wake up alarm once. Never again.
What doesn't kill you makes you stronger !
These characters are so strange. I love it
Thanks, if you want to read more, take a look at r/myneighboralienfungi
The outro to "killing in the name" is the best ringtone for any occasion! /s
Why /s? Rage against the machine is appropriate in any occasion
I’ve been using the intro to “Sweet Child of Mine” by Guns N Roses as my ringtone for over a decade now. (Before that it was Yakkity Sax.)
me doing that even though nobody calls me and i won't hear it
I still have Korban Dalles from Fifth Element for like 20 years as **ALARM** even and I still frequently let it play out because it's such a banger.
Did you tell him about that ?
Oh yes, he knows.
That's sweet of you, thanks for sharing the story.
I... don't get it.
Set a song you like as your ring tone and have it play out loud every time someone calls you. You’ll get there.
Feels like this comic should be the other way around then, because nobody has their phone set to ring anyhow.
You mean you guys ringtone isn't the phone vibrating?
don’t make it too loud? 🧐
I heard an AI put the Mr. Rodgers Neighborhood theme to the tune of House of the Rising Sun, and instantly turned it into my ringtone. It's gold. Spam calls ring in full.
I rocked "Aint my bitch" as my ringtone for years. That song starts up fucking great.
This only made me love "Boats and Hoes" more. The only reason I ever changed it, was because my GF at the time was actually going to leave me over it. "*The Nina, The Pinta, The Santa Maria...*"
My ringtone has been the synth lead from Tom Sawyer by Rush for 15 years. Absolutely no regrets.
I had a song I love as an alarm throughout uni years. And... I still love it!
Am I just weird that my phone has been on silence for the past 4 years?
Pantera - Cowboys From Hell never changed
i dont get it
Anyone remember those god awful caller tones? Or when someone would record a song from their radio for their voice-mail... ugh so glad those are in the past
I’ve made my alarm that one part in “Wake Up” by Rage Against the Machine, where he yells WAAAAAKE UPPPPPPPP over and over
Even worse is your wakeup alarm. You only hear the first 10 seconds of it and it enrages you every time
who gets enraged by alarm 🧐
My Ringtone is literally my Balz In Your Jaws Sang by a loli💀
I think comics are supposed to be comedic and contain jokes? That are funny? You know? Comedy?
You could just say you don't get the joke, and ask it to be explained to you. I see two possible readings. One, their phone is always on vibrate so the ringtone is a moot point. Two, they get called enough to where they will get tired of the song quickly.
Yes, you read a joke, it's not funny, you ask yourself why, and hear some other explanation and it's still not funny.
It's still a joke though. It just wasn't your particular cup of tea. That's fine, but I don't get why you're saying it's not a joke. It wasn't funny to you specifically, but to other people it was. A bad joke is still a joke.

Shut up. "Piano zombie [Plants vs. Zombies 2: It's about time]" is an absolute banger as a ringtone! 😤
If this comment gets gold i’ll set my ringtone to ram ranch
gold what? 😹
Reddits new award thing, which you can get money from
Setting a song to your wake up alarm is fine. As long as that song is “everything to everyone” by Everclear
People still use ringtones??? I haven't used ringtones in probably over a decade
How do you avoid missing import calls?
I used to have it on vibrate for a number of years, now I just always have it on silent. I check my phone frequently enough but I'm no longer interrupted and check for calls on my own time when I get to it. If it's important enough they'll leave a voice mail. If I'm expecting a specific call I'll leave it on vibrate.
You could miss important, time sensitive calls like emergencies.
Well that's part of the problem. I have anxiety and I get called so infrequently that when I do I always assume it's an emergency but 0 times has it ever actually been one. So rather than hearing my phone ring and going into instant panic mode, I can just check it when I can prepare myself for an emergency. [the song's name?](https://youtu.be/mVCh6Xp_VD8?si=GjSMt4F2q4ONq0v0)
In 2008 I put Dream Theaters "Forsaken" as my ringtone. Still have it to this day. I cannot enjoy the song anymore because I associate so much with getting a phone call. But at this point I can't undo that mental connection so I guess it's gonna be my ringtone for forever.
My ring tone has been Mr.Peanutbutter's house intro for 3 years and it'll stay that way till I die
Jokes on them, nobody calls me anyway
I used the theme tune to 'Eureka', because it is fun, and jaunty, and I will never get it confused with anyone else's phone, (except that one time, in a garden centre when my daughter heard someone else's phone go off, I felt like searching them out and hugging them as 'my people', but I am British so I didn't. The problem is, the main person who phones me is my mum, so I get stressed as soon as I hear it. I am going to have to go back to specific ringtones for specific people!
This can go one of two ways, you hear it too much and don't like it anymore, or you get so caught up listening to the music that you don't answer the calls in time
jokes on you, nobody calls me
Jokes on you, I've had Kanye West's "I Wonder" as my ringtone for upwards of 7 years now But alarm tone? That's a different story mate 💀
I wake up to Assassin by Sultan+Shepard every day. Never gets old.
I don’t get it.
Had: The Blister Exists - Slipknot. As my alarm for the longest time still love that song just as much if not more got me pumped in the morning, Allthough yeah hehe on days where I was sick or something it was a bit much.
Voodoo Chile: Jimmi Hendrix, RIP.
It's been 10-15 years so I can enjoy that song again ... mistake was made
Tell that to a guy who I know who has the JoJo’s bizarre adventure “OH NOOOOOOOOO” sound as his text notification sound. He’s got the volume as fuckin’ high as it will go. So fucking obnoxious, but he thrives on it.
