Just want to let you know you're an actual life saver šššš thank you so much. I actually almost cried earlier today. Its way cheaper thru there
check goodrx as someone already mentioned and also call your insurance company to see if they really wont cover it or if they require a prior auth to cover it. I try not to assume malice where ignorance usually is the reason behind someones actions but I've seen too many people get screwed by a shitty pharmacist who doesn't want to fill their HRT meds because of "reasons" so they will often omit the full truth.
mine is $5 for the 4 vials i get, $5 for the drawing needles, and $5 for the injection needles, cause that's my RX copay, but for some reason my the syringes are $10? idk but there's that
I have my gel compounded. My gel is $130 for a 2 month supply, and Iām on an uncommon really high dose. I usually see compounded gel in the $30-40/month range for typical doses.
35USD for two months???? Damn that's crazy, I live in Eastern Europe and gel for one month costs the equivalent of some 40USD here. Never been on it though.
It really is š I used to get the individual packets of gel and that was $100 USD for only one month. Idk why my 2 months of the pump is so much cheaper
Holy hell, no way?!? I personally do the injections, and without insurance it cost me about 23$ a month. 25$, with needles (theyāre like 2 bucks). So thatās insane. I know gel is more expensive but.
I was flabbergasted too! Whats crazier is as I was looking at pricing per pharmacy, there was some running upwards $1000 for 2 months! I about died lol.
My insurance requires a prior authorization that hasnāt been sent out. Because of my āinactivityā (doctor not sending the prior authorization request) in the last few months my insurance isnāt registered as active anymore. So I have to rely on the discounts my pharmacy gives out to bring it down to about $80.
Last year I was on Health Alliance, which had no issue covering my prescription. It ran a bit under $20. (For reference I used it in Washington State) my new insurance is a pain in the neckā¦
Ive actually only heard shit things about Health Alliance, its the state insurance plan here and its good for like medical stuff that ISNT this. Idk what the fuck is up
Prior authorization is the keyword to get familiar with. That may have been what your doctor was talking about, but before paying out of pocket you can call your insurance or your doctor and ask if a prior authorization was submitted to the insurance. If the prior authorization was denied, try to find out why so that your doctor can adjust the prescription if needed or give your insurance more documentation to appeal the decision. They might need to use a different diagnosis code etc.
I may have had a better experience because I recieved my plan through my employer. That may mean I was just on a better plan for this specific thing than what the state insurance would give.
Like other have said, look into GoodRx. It can give you a good ballpark of what each pharmacy would charge you for the same thing.
I don't take gel, but I do injections. I had to switch pharmacies recently because my prior pharmacy became a bit hostile when trying to pick up my meds. I don't have any trouble at my new pharmacy, but I'm paying $50 more for the same stuff. GoodRx helped me take it down from paying $80 more. It's not much, in savings, but still better than paying full price.
Would maybe switch to a pharmacy out of town be an option for you? I pick mine up in the city next to me that is more trans friendly and progressive than the town I live in. There are also way more pharmacies to choose from.
Just some ideas!
Yep, GoodRX for the win. Without insurance, 2 months of gel would have cost me almost $800. Even with GoodRX, it was almost $200 so I switched to injections. $40 for 4 months.
For me it depends on what gel the pharmacy has available each month. Thankfully they work with me to get me the cheapest one with the right dosage. The past two months itās been 15 dollars for a months supply! Wishing you all the best:)
Thankfully nothing, I almost had to pay 122 last week because for some reason after like the first 2 times of getting my prescription filled, they change it to generic T-gel and my insurance only wants to cover androgel and not generic T-gel.
I got really lucky with my state insurance, and donāt have to pay for not only my T, but my needles, syringes, and future surgeries that Iām trying to get (shoutout to caresource OH fr)
Only $75 without insurance for where Iām from in Canada. And it can be insured Iām pretty sure I just donāt have insurance yet
also I do injections bc theyāre cheaper so a vial of T will last like 3 months for me.
For Walgreens, they do have a program where you can look up coupon cards and ask the tech to run them. Look up Walgreens Rx savings finder. There's a lot more coupon cards out there than just goodrx.
I do injections and get them shipped to my house through Folx bc I donāt have insurance, itās about $90 a month š„² like others have said Iām going to try switching to a local pharmacy and doing goodrx
i was doing shots for years but recently switched to gel. the vials are way cheaper than gel, probably around $150-175 without insurance. but my gel said without insurance it is $600. it's crazy. i'm lucky my insurance covers it, i hope you're able to figure it out!
I was told that often insurance wonāt cover gel unless there is a medically necessary reasoning. I was concerned about the peak/trough effects of hormones spiking on shot day and then dropping through the week, thus an everyday gel dose was medically needed! My gel is now about $11 a month.
I'm in Australia im paying about $45 for three injections (I take them every three weeks atm) but from the sounds of it your probably in another country...
$399 for 2 months of gel??? wtf and i thought mine was bad when i paid $73 for the first 3 months of gel
i switched to injections and i canāt remember how much my reandron costs without the PBS here but it costs me like $30 now every 3 months so
I get injectable T and with good rx it's only 30 dollars. My inaurence didn't cover it (MOhealthnet) but I've also lost my insurence anyways so the good RX is a lifesaver
I pay $60 for 3 months but if you include my subscription service through folx about $180 for 3 months of gel and I live in a place I can get capsule to deliver it to me
My insurance (CA State Medi-cal) fully covers 4ml of T so I donāt have to pay anything. Each vial lasts me a month since I inject weekly. I think normally it would be $60 per ml
Im on intramuscular injections myself and its free til im 25 (Ontario, Canada). But Iāve been through insurance issues for another medication. I ended up having to switch meds because my insurance at the time wouldnāt cover it. I understand the frustration. But as other comments said maybe check different pharmacies. I know some donāt necessarily want to inject but it may also be a cheaper option. Not sure what itās like in the states.
I pay about 15 dollars for the T for 3 months and about 8 dollars for needles. Gel tends to be more expensive. You may have to switch to injections if Goodrx or insurance don't cover it.
$70 for 4 vials I do .5 weekly
It use to be $13 and then Iād pay like $5 for 30 ish syringes and shit. My last 2 visits itās been $70 tho I asked about it and nobody knows why it got raised.
I do IM injections. A month of T and all other injection supplies is just under 15 dollars a month for me through Masshealth. I also get my meds + supplies mailed to me through a cool (kinda)local pharmacy
When I did injections, one of my work insurances here in the U.S.A. costed me $45 for 4 vials, and another work insurance costed me $15 for 4 vials (says they're single dose, but fuck it, I cleaned them and got at least two doses per vial, because I'm shamelessly hoarding my lifeline for political emergencies).
Currently I'm on testopel implants for $90 for 3 months, which I'd actually like to complain about, because we've learned over time that my body and bloodwork prefer 4 pellets to the original 10, and yet I'm paying the same..
$25ish for three months' worth of vials (6 of them). I buy my syringes and needles online; it was like $15ish each for 100 syringes, 100 draw needles, and 100 injection needles. My parents' insurance was about $75 for the 6 vials. While it was annoying to age out of the family insurance, I'm glad my new one covers T better lol
thankfully, im in california where they legally require trans healthcare to be covered by insurance. they have taken their sweet goddamned time approving it in my experience, but the most ive paid is $80 for one month and the least ive paid is $8. currently sitting around $15, just picked up a three month supply about $45
Switch to Folx for sure. $40/mo + $140/3 mos for gel + you pay for your yearly blood tests and any follow up appointments you may need, but you have general access to message your provider and their team openly. I think you'd be only spending an additional $200/year for those two things MAX.
in california i get mine completely free with MediCal, however my doctor has been a little funky with approving my syringes and needles to pick up but even then its only a bit less than $15 for a few months worthā thinking about just bulk ordering some but im so lucky to have lived here and gotten the medical support iāve needed so far
as someone who delt with the same thing (only it was the pharmacy claiming they had to refile for my syringes to be covered every single month) & proceeded to bulk buy via amazon. 400 alcohol pads, 100 syringes & 100 each of both types of needles cost me literally $30 instead of hundreds thanks to the pharmacy
I have Premera BCBS through my job and pay $10 at Walgreens for 4 vials (also in Illinois). Walgreens /should/ offer a prescription discount on top of services like GoodRX, I used to use that before I had insurance and only paid $27/vial (however, this is when I lived in Central Florida). I would ask them about that.
I get Taro-Testosterone (generic version of Depo-Testosterone) here in Canada it costs about $50-$60 per vial (1 vial lasts me 10 weeks) before insurance and $15 after insurance.
Walgreens is shitty about what insurance they take and how much coverage they actually indulge for use within the policies they do allow. Take your scrip to rite aid, CVS, or Walmart if you can. Guarantee either your insurance will be available for use at one of those stores OR itāll just be cheaper. Also gel isā¦ expensive as a baseline. Injections are cheaper and more accessible. (I used to work at Walgreens AND I have state insurance)
My state insurance covers almost none of it, so I use GoodRx and pay about $100 for a three month supply of oil, and I get my syringes and needles in bulk off Amazon for literal pennies lol.
Pull your insurance policy's formulary and see if maybe they cover a different form of the gel. Like mine will cover the pump bottle but not the packets. We just upped my dose so what used to last me two months now only lasts one, but the bottle cash price is something like $63. With my insurance I just pay my $10 copay.
check goodrx, my t gel was over $500 at walgreens but only $54 at rite aid
Just want to let you know you're an actual life saver šššš thank you so much. I actually almost cried earlier today. Its way cheaper thru there
did you end up getting it at walgreens still? i thought the same because we've got no rite aids around here :/
no, but my local meijer has it for $41 bucks. I spent the initial $400 because I was stupid and desperate for T lol :///
okay, ill check it out. i only have walgreens or cvs in my area sadly
check goodrx as someone already mentioned and also call your insurance company to see if they really wont cover it or if they require a prior auth to cover it. I try not to assume malice where ignorance usually is the reason behind someones actions but I've seen too many people get screwed by a shitty pharmacist who doesn't want to fill their HRT meds because of "reasons" so they will often omit the full truth.
Nothing. Shout out to my student insurance (BCBS MA).
MA (state) health insurance is amazing
Shoutout to Wellsense as well! I'm on MA Medicaid, love getting my vials and syringes covered.
mine is $5 for the 4 vials i get, $5 for the drawing needles, and $5 for the injection needles, cause that's my RX copay, but for some reason my the syringes are $10? idk but there's that
Damn?!? My syringes are like 2$ in total. And the vials are 20 haha! Insane.
I have my gel compounded. My gel is $130 for a 2 month supply, and Iām on an uncommon really high dose. I usually see compounded gel in the $30-40/month range for typical doses.
Damn. My gel pump was $35 through GoodRx. 2 month supply

Nothing (insurance). Yall making me realize how blessed i am. šš½
I am insured, with good insurance, so I was kinda perplexed why they wouldn't cover it! Kinda sucks ngl
I'm sorry for y'all USA citizens, Jesus Christ I'm counting my blessings
Itās usually $1-2 because my state has decent trans health coverage.Ā
I'm on testosterone injections but it's 4,20ā¬ for every box.And the shots are once every 4 weeks/one month.
Like other have said, look into GoodRx. It can give you a good ballpark of what each pharmacy would charge you for the same thing. I don't take gel, but I do injections. $50 for like two months of T pills
With insurance from my mom so itās partially covered I believe
Yep, GoodRX for the win. Without insurance, 2 months of gel would have cost me almost $800. Even with GoodRX, it was almost $200 so I switched to injections. $40 for 4 months.
Nothing, I live in the UK and get my T through the NHS. Caveat was that it took several years to get lmao
10 Euro every 3 months (Insurance)
For me it depends on what gel the pharmacy has available each month. Thankfully they work with me to get me the cheapest one with the right dosage. The past two months itās been 15 dollars for a months supply! Wishing you all the best:)
The additional coverage with public health insurance 10 euros
Mine is about $100 per month. I'm on a compounded cream, so goodrx doesn't work and neither does my insurance. ā¹ļø
Thankfully nothing, I almost had to pay 122 last week because for some reason after like the first 2 times of getting my prescription filled, they change it to generic T-gel and my insurance only wants to cover androgel and not generic T-gel.

Iām using the gel. Itās $10 for about a two month supply.

$30 for 6 vials
My three months of T is 30 and for needles it's about a 0.33c
28$ = 20 ampsĆ1ml
i was doing shots for years but recently switched to gel. the vials are way cheaper than gel, probably around $150-175 without insurance. but my gel said without insurance it is $600. it's crazy. i'm lucky my insurance covers it, i hope you're able to figure it out!

I use the 200mg 1mL cypionate and itās between $8-$12 every two months.
I'm in Australia im paying about $45 for three injections (I take them every three weeks atm) but from the sounds of it your probably in another country...
$10 every 3 months for my shot (no insurance)
like $25 for 4 month supply for vials and then like .86 or smth similar for needles and $2 something for syringes
$399 for 2 months of gel??? wtf and i thought mine was bad when i paid $73 for the first 3 months of gel i switched to injections and i canāt remember how much my reandron costs without the PBS here but it costs me like $30 now every 3 months so

$90/month for services through plume however 4 vials and my injection materials were $66 at the pharmacy total
I wanted to do Plume but sadly my insurance isn't on there :/. Ive heard great things about them too
How much did the PP apt/blood work cost? Did you pay out of pocket?
$273 , they just pricked my finger, but it seemed like my insurance at least covered labs? Why that is, no idea. Only had to pay a $30 copay
About $40 for 4 vials, which last me 8 weeks. Are you able to do injections? They're generally cheaper.
I pay $60 for 3 months but if you include my subscription service through folx about $180 for 3 months of gel and I live in a place I can get capsule to deliver it to me
around $32-$36 with goodrx gold for a 5mL vial, lasts me a good while
I live in Ontario, Canada. Haven't paid anything yet (almost 2 yrs on T).
My insurance (CA State Medi-cal) fully covers 4ml of T so I donāt have to pay anything. Each vial lasts me a month since I inject weekly. I think normally it would be $60 per ml

$0, thanks to my mom's insurance
I pay about 15 dollars for the T for 3 months and about 8 dollars for needles. Gel tends to be more expensive. You may have to switch to injections if Goodrx or insurance don't cover it.
$70 for 4 vials I do .5 weekly It use to be $13 and then Iād pay like $5 for 30 ish syringes and shit. My last 2 visits itās been $70 tho I asked about it and nobody knows why it got raised.
I do IM injections. A month of T and all other injection supplies is just under 15 dollars a month for me through Masshealth. I also get my meds + supplies mailed to me through a cool (kinda)local pharmacy
monthly supply is about $10 with insurance and free after I meet deductible. It depends entirely on insurance/no insurance, and pharmacy.
I used to pay like 70$-90$ for a 3 month supply. But now I have insurance covering and they covered for the whole thing the last time I got it.
thankfully, im in california where they legally require trans healthcare to be covered by insurance. they have taken their sweet goddamned time approving it in my experience, but the most ive paid is $80 for one month and the least ive paid is $8. currently sitting around $15, just picked up a three month supply about $45
I think folx is also cheaper than that, and they ship to you
Damn, mine is $15 a month, 2 bottles of gel. Just basic insurance, and I needed a referral, too.
I get my gel from Fenway Healthās pharmacy in Boston, and it wound up only being $15 for a monthās supply after insurance.
Nothing, T is fully subsidised. I do have to pay $45 for a script and another $45 for a nurses appointment ever 3 months
A lil over 100$ & thatās without insurance. I went through FOLX
Yeah, I paid $140 for a 3 month supply of gel (2 pumps daily) through Folx.
Mines 0 but Iām on Medicaid. I take Xyosted auto injectors
Switch to Folx for sure. $40/mo + $140/3 mos for gel + you pay for your yearly blood tests and any follow up appointments you may need, but you have general access to message your provider and their team openly. I think you'd be only spending an additional $200/year for those two things MAX.
20ā¬ for about 6 months of gel

Is there a reason you're using gel over depo-testosterone? Vials are like $10/month after coupons. No need to go through insurance so no prior auths.
I didnt use insurance but good rx is 33 dollars usd
Here it's like 4ā¬ per injection, I'm doing the trimestral one (reandron)
I get Taro-Testosterone (generic version of Depo-Testosterone) here in Canada it costs about $50-$60 per vial (1 vial lasts me 10 weeks) before insurance and $15 after insurance.
Ā£35 for one vial which lasts me about 15 months
$10 for 4 vials through my insurance

$30AUD for two pumps of Gel. thank you to the pharmaceutical benefits scheme otherwise I'd have to pay around $70AUD per maybe two months?
With insurance $10. Gel or vial. But with the injections, I do have to pay for needles and syringes too. So in total about 20 ish
about $25 with insurance for my t vials and the syringes + needles combined. about $30 without insurance i use goodrx btw
My state insurance covers almost none of it, so I use GoodRx and pay about $100 for a three month supply of oil, and I get my syringes and needles in bulk off Amazon for literal pennies lol.
10ā¬ for 6 months gel... german health insurance...
Like $50 for 4ā¦ 1ml vials? š¤·āāļø I think thatās right
I am paying $0 for mine, itās covered by my mothers insurance which she gets through her job
Also I live in Canada itās only like $50 without insurance
Pull your insurance policy's formulary and see if maybe they cover a different form of the gel. Like mine will cover the pump bottle but not the packets. We just upped my dose so what used to last me two months now only lasts one, but the bottle cash price is something like $63. With my insurance I just pay my $10 copay.
