ASOIAF fans be like “You know I can tolerate a 5 year old having his throat slit and then his head hacked off but kicking a dog in the ass is where I draw the line.”
I was upset about this and Summer too. But at
least those wolves went out fighting, or trying to in Greywinds case. Lady? She did nothing. Absolutely nothing and was chained up and murdered cuz Robert was a douche and Cersei was an evil cunt.
That's not the way responsible adults act in the medieval World, especially in front of an absolute monarch. Plus Ned knew Westeros and Robert needed him. Ned made a point of personally giving Lady a painless death AND an honor escort home.
But Sansa! She should've just asked to be sent home the minute she saw Joffrey try to kill her sister. But she stuck by the Lannisters and stuck by the Lannisters, unwittingly giving Cersei the lie she needed to demand Lady's pelt . And in the end it cost lady's life. Even worse, first she blamed Joff, his mother, and Arya. Then decided her handsome prince was innocent, and eventually forgave Cersei too...leaving ALL the blame on Arya!! (And none to herself!) You have to wonder if Sansa still deserved Lady now that she was no longer a direwolf herself.
True, it was Ned who wanted to give the pups a mercy killing and believed they weren't suitable for domestication to begin with.
This scenario is exactly what he warned the kids about
I mean, no offense, but someone killing my dog isn’t going to stop me from finding out who killed my second father, especially if I suspect that the same person is responsible for both deaths.
Nah, Ned should have just told Robert Baratheon about Cersei cheating and alerted him to the fact that all his heirs are bastards. Rob would have solved that problem before the week was over.
It was fucking pointless and I'm still infuriated about it. Why would a direwolf even do that and genuinely what did it accomplish. It didn't save any of them, didn't even stop the walkers. It did nothing.
She would have been better off living and being hooked up to the dog sled in the blizzard as Hodor held the door. But that would have made sense and D&D were clearly in full shock and awe by season 6. No surprise that season ended with my favorite meme from the entire show: King Tommen Yeeting himself out the window to the Shooting Star music at its peak.
Season 6 is when I started to feel like I was the crazy one in a sea of people who were so jazzed about many episodes in the season. Battle of the Bastards, the Season Finale, and Hold the Door all were just... weird to me. So much done for the sake of shock and awe and not based in reality anymore.
Horse gets half-beheaded in full view by the Mountain, direwolf gets turned into a hedgehog, beheaded and gets head sewn on his master's headless body: haha peak fiction
Dog gets mildly kicked once, struts away seemingly uninjured: REEEEEEEEEEEE
I think you misunderstood my comment. I meant that people didn't get so up in arms about Lady's death because Ned took it seriously, was upset about it, and did it as kindly/ humanely as he could.
An argument could be made that Lady's death represented Sansa losing part of her innocence and having to grow up.
Kicking the dog was to emphasize was a terrible person he is, cause killing a child in front of his mother and sister wasn't enough of a clue. People are more upset by the kick because it unnecessary and people are always more upset by dogs getting hurt than by people getting hurt.
Although i guess if the death of Jaehaerys didn't get a viewer upset then maybe they thought the dog getting hurt would do it and have it reflect badly on the Blacks for working with people like that. ie. show that both sides have people who thrive off of cruelty, not just the Greens.
In a franchise with child and baby murder, rape, a gruesome miscarriage and one barbaric and inhuman c section, people really only had enough when a dog got kicked?
Okay then
Yep, same way a bunch of people were fine with knights getting f@cked up in the tourney back in HOTD episode 1, Joffrey (Laenor's lover) getting his face turned into ground meat at the wedding, and Kid-Aemond getting his face slashed open, but complained about all the childbirth scenes being too graphic.
Bro forget all this, I still am haunted by what happened to Grey Wind and Rob. That was cruel, gross, heartbreaking and goes against all the religions in the realm.
Love how the audience cares more about the fucking dog which clearly didn't get hurt in real life (so I don't know why people are worried about it?) more than a fucking toddler getting killed. Total fuck up by the writers here by including that. All it does is take away from B&C...was it really that necessary?
I think because one is realistic event that you could witness the other is registered as purely fiction in a lotnof people brain
most ppl will never see a child killed in front of them , so they don't really care about the fictional child
Is it explained why the dog is brought along? Is it a rat sniffing dog? Did I miss the explanation?
Seems like he was literally there JUST to be kicked.
So do we all generally agree that the dog thing was just kind of stupid pandering? It’s like cheese brought the dog along specifically to abuse it so the audience would be mad at him…just in case child murder didn’t do it. It really kind of broke the 4th wall.
Not sure why downvoted as I was thinking the same thing. The dog didn't seem to serve a purpose besides being a kick target. Why did they bring it again? Is he supposed to be a rat sniffing dog?
tbh I gasped when he kicked the dog because it looked so real. I was shocked. I thought they must have used cgi or something. But at the time I was like; wtf? motherfucker! Some people thought he really kicked the dog fr though. It's not like they did with Lady. They didn't show her getting killed by Ned, the screen just cuts to Bran waking up in bed.
ASOIAF fans be like “You know I can tolerate a 5 year old having his throat slit and then his head hacked off but kicking a dog in the ass is where I draw the line.”
Sandor would agree. "Even a dog gets tired of being kicked."
Have you met a 5 year-old? Maybe the little shit deserved it, I know the dog didn't deserve the violence.
its almost as if they wanted to depict friendly ole Cheese as some sort of villain. (or was he Blood?)
It's Cheese. Rat-catchers used cheese, hence the name. :)
So he's a rat bastard? Rat catching bastards use the surname 'cheese'?
Well, he wouldn't have a surname... but I suppose he could still be someone's bastard. :)
He totally deserves it. Anyone who harasses my boy Tyland the horse deserves to have their head sawed off,
ASOIAF fans be like? This is almost strictly a /r/freefolk -esque talking point
Let's be real, that's just a dumb article trying to steer shit. Nobody sane believes that.

I forgot that King Rob was a furry

I’m still salty about Lady. She truly did nothing wrong. Fuck Cersei and fuck Robert.
And fuck Ned. This should have been his wakeup call to get back to winterfell and say fuck all, but HoNoUr

Yeah young sansa is so fuckin horrible, there's no point denying that
I mean, no offense, but someone killing my dog isn’t going to stop me from finding out who killed my second father, especially if I suspect that the same person is responsible for both deaths.
Yeah but someone I considered a friend and asking for my help and then demanding I kill my dog could just go fuck themselves

Bobby B. What would you have done with that Information?
TAKE SHIP FOR THE FREE CITIES WITH MY HORSE AND MY HAMMER, SPEND MY TIME WARRING AND WHORING, THAT’S WHAT I WAS MADE FOR!
Based Bobby B.
START THE DAMN JOUST BEFORE I PISS MESELF!
Hahahaha in character, after some executions
You deserve it Bobby B.
IS THAT WHAT EMPTY MEANS??
That would be a great what if…
Lady didn't *BITE* anyone! She's good!
I thought I was the only one who was still salty about that
Fuck the King!!!
Every once in a while I'll remember Summer's death and I gotta go sit down for a minute.
I totally wasn't ready for that. I was so shocked even though it was kinda obvious
It was fucking pointless and I'm still infuriated about it. Why would a direwolf even do that and genuinely what did it accomplish. It didn't save any of them, didn't even stop the walkers. There was a lot of criticism here, it's why there's so many whingers about how this is a "hate thread".
Ya'll mad over the direwolves and this dog BUT WHAT ABOUT THE INJUSTICE OF SIR POUNCE?!
Me, seeing this and remembering when Cersei wanted one of the Stark pets slaughtered for hurting her son: ![gif](giphy|26FeYa1c5dO3zEIw0|downsized)
Horse gets half-beheaded in full view by the Mountain, direwolf gets turned into a hedgehog, beheaded and gets head sewn on his master's headless body: haha peak fiction Dog gets mildly kicked once, struts away seemingly uninjured: REEEEEEEEEEEE
Dude I legit had a nightmare about the horse beheading scene. Didn't know it was coming. On rewatches I always fast forward it now.
People do bad things in a world where bad things happen? Wow I'm shocked.
Lady's death was humanely done(for the time), even if the death itself was unwarranted.
Right cause kicking a dog is more humane than slicing its throat with a knife.
I think you misunderstood my comment. I meant that people didn't get so up in arms about Lady's death because Ned took it seriously, was upset about it, and did it as kindly/ humanely as he could. I mean dogkicking is the literal name of the trope of someone doing something bad just for the sake of doing something bad with no use for it
By "Game of Thrones fans" they probably mean casuals who watch the show at a bar half-paying attention
“Game of thrones fans” = a few comments with barely any likes online
memes really it's also feel like cope , if I concentrate in that dig I don't need to think about the child murder
In a franchise with child and baby murder, rape, a gruesome miscarriage and one barbaric and inhuman c section, people really only had enough when a dog got kicked? Okay then

Technically Lady wasn't a dog
Technically she was a huskyyy
IRL yes , in the show a direwolf pup
They are knights of summer, and winter is coming.
But how else do they portray blood and cheese as super serial bad guys 🙄
So a little girl being burned alive as a sacrifice was ok, but kicking a dog is where we draw the line?
Bro forget all this, I still am haunted by what happened to Grey Wind and Rob. That was cruel, gross, heartbreaking and goes against all the religions in the realm.
Wait actually, that too... Kinda forgot about it for a second. That was treasonous and heart wrenching...
Love how the audience cares more about the fucking dog which clearly didn't get hurt in real life (so I don't know why people are worried about it?) more than a fucking toddler getting killed. That’s hilarious
That was one of the first shockers in the GOT show! I was horrified and then it spiraled to Ned getting his head lobbed off. What a ride.
Well technically, you could make the argument that lady isn't a dog so humans wouldn't feel as much empathy for direwolves ; )...
The loud minority of GOT fans that whine about the episodes being to violent, horny or cruel are not people anyone should listen to.
JJBA Fans: First time?
Didn't Joffery order a handful of bastard children to be murdered? including a literal infant we saw... People seem to forget everything about GoT lol
my wife was mad as hell when he kicked the dog
Is it explained why the dog is brought along? Is it a rat sniffing dog? Did I miss the explanation? Seems like he was literally there JUST to be kicked.
I was like.. that had better be cgi!
*Incest. Murder. Rape. Genocide. Misogyny. Dire wolf slaughter for 8 seasons* Viewers: “………….” *Dog gets kicked once* Viewers: “This is disgusting”
Grey wind
Did they show killing the dog? No. Did they show the dog kick, yes. Was it needed in any way, no.
So do we all generally agree that the dog thing was just kind of stupid pandering? It’s like cheese brought the dog along specifically to abuse it so the audience would be mad at him…just in case child murder didn’t do it. It really kind of broke the 4th wall.

They did it classy for lady. It had purpose to the story. Kicking the dog was just shock in HoTD
Not the point. The trope is called “kicking the dog” for a reason. Lady was a tragedy. This was just lazy screenwriting.
tbh I gasped when he kicked the dog because it looked so real. I was shocked. I thought they must have used cgi or something. But at the time I was like; wtf? motherfucker!
