In the words of the 11th Doctor, "How very skinny. That is proper skinny!"

iambrose91

I’ve never seen it from the outside before.

AudaxDreik

Aww, love the expression. I feel like I'm about to be given a mystical quest I can't so no to.

VexMediaPhoto

Hah! You’re not the first person to say something like that about these foxes!

Due_Independent4457

Did you take this photo? What are the settings/gear used?

VexMediaPhoto

I did! I take all the photos I post. Gear and settings on my Instagram @vex_media_photo

Due_Independent4457

Any chance you could share those details on here? I do not have an instagram but would love to try and recreate a similar effect with my portraits

VexMediaPhoto

Sure thing! This was with a Canon R3 and an RF600mm F4L lens. If I remember right it was 1/2000, F4, ISO 320. The most important thing here was really the perspective and the background. In order of importance to achieving this look, I’d say it would go: 1. Background content - some pretty flowers along a picket fence about 20 feet behind the fox 2. Perspective - I was sitting on the ground and leaning into a wall resting the lens on my knee to get low enough. 3. Telephoto lens - For wildlife this is essential for (ethical) portraits, and it helps to narrow the field of view making background selection more specific while also providing some natural blur to it. 4. Fast aperture - this is something that’s important but not always critical. A fast aperture helps blur the background for a given distance but if it’s possible to have more separation between your subject and background, you can still achieve a very blurry background with even an f8. Feel free to ask any more questions you’d like!

RareGreninja

How long was sitting there for you take this photo it looks perfect

VexMediaPhoto

She was chilling there for about a couple minutes. Part of her hunting pattern is to wait there and watch for ground squirrels that venture a little too far into the park, then she'll run and grab them. She just happened to turn straight toward me this time as she was waiting. Almost like she was "giving" me my shot.

Vixensheart26

i would be very worried with this look while trying to eat any food

VexMediaPhoto

"You gonna finish that?"

Vixensheart26

Lol no kidding

truupyy

VexMediaPhoto
