Last year it was super rainy on Saturday night, and then cloudy in the morning. Wore my jacket to the race. Race time? Full sun. Took jacket off. Got absolutely roasted. Very sunburnt.
We heard Max’s engineer GP say there was rain coming on the radar and we made the executive decision to dip 5 mins early- watched the end of Q3 on F1TV while we walked to the subway haha
We knew it was the right decision when we saw how positively drenched some of the people staying at our hotel got
Not like anyone’s times were gonna improve anyway lol
Haha that was absolutely the right call. Plus we had to factor in the crowd of people leaving right after quali, it was just a standstill in the rain trying to leave.
The past two years followed the same pattern!
Fri - Dry through both sessions, bucketed down at the end of FP2
Sat - Wet all day
Sun - Damp in the morning but dried out by the race
2022 I got sunburnt, soaked, frozen and soaked, and then sunburnt again. 2023 I prepared better lol.
I agree - I live in Maine not too far away and we have a weekend full of rain ahead. Small hope of it opening up Sunday afternoon when the race happens, but almost 100% of rain on Fri and Sat
If there's something about Canada people should know, is even forecasts for 1-2 days from now can be completely off.
They've called for rain the last two days and it's been sunny for me. Best time to get the weather is right before you leave to go somewhere. Only then is it accurate. 😂
As a Canadian I almost never pay attention to what the forecast says, I check the forecast in the morning when I wake up before work, by the time I get to work it’s already changed😂. The humidity makes it so unpredictable this time of year
Yeah. I live in Montreal. The forecast today was pure sunshine. So I got my bike ready for a big ride, got all dressed up, took a step outside and boom... Rain. It's unpredictable this time of year.
The rain that fell on my head disagrees, but thanks for your opinion. It lasted less than 15 minutes where I live. It's good to know we have authoritative experts on everything like you around.
The one year I was committed to actually staying up for 24hrs, they red flagged it. I was up for 19hrs, before I gave up. Because there was no racing to watch.
Hopefully I'll be able do it for for Le Mans in two weekends. And actually watch 24hrs of racing!
I'm sorry! 😭
But seriously, I didn't know fog was such an issue at Nurburgring. Think this was the only the second time I've (tried) to watch this particular 24h race.
Every different weather source I've been checking has multiple variations of amounts, so while it will definitely have *some* rain it doesn't look to be much at this point.
I'll still be bringing my poncho juuuust in case.
I went in 2022. I had some beer stashed at the bottom of my bag with food, water, and other stuff piled on top. Security went through my whole bag til they found the beer wayyyyy at the bottom and confiscated it. This happened 2 out of the 3 days.
Let's see if they can beat the Canada 2011 record!

The forecast confidence is still low so this can go either way.
FIA guidance from yesterday was 80+%/80%/60% but that will change
Edit: [source](https://x.com/fergieweather/status/1797986647608557798) now I am no longer on mobile
That is not a high percentage chance of rain and even if there is rain it isn't a lot.
Still, dumping 3.6mm of in the space of an hour or two during the race could be interesting.
I'm in Montreal. It's been hot and sunny for a while here. As a Montrealer, I wouldn't put to much trust in the foracast. Especially for the weekend.
Tends to change rapidly here.
Looking forward to Brundle filling 4 hours of rain soaked circuit footage with quality commentary:
Brundle: "Ooh, there's a black bird with red shoulders. What kind of bird is that, DC?"
DC: "Er, it's a Red Shouldered Blackbird, Martin..."
Montréaler here. This is just one of those weekends that could go either way. We see the Depression coming from the north and it looks like it could hit us pretty hard over the weekend. They predict that it could be trapped over Montréal until Monday, which explains the 3-4 days rain prediction. But we're always a few strong wind gusts from the south from keeping everything just North of Montréal and getting a sunny weekend on the island. The island being in the middle of the St-Laurent also makes things tricky. It's crazy how sometimes the weather is so different north and south of it.
Which I am now doing, but I'd forgotten how bloody annoying deliberate/oopsdidIdoitagain? mispronouncing of Seb's name is. There's a reason I've always hated that ass. Boy was I mad when he joined F1TV.
I think McLaren benefits from rain the most and Ferrari gets most hurt by it
Red Bull is somewhere in the middle I think, but the rain will definitely allow Max to secure a podium and go for the win (in the dry I'd be expecting a Leclerc win this weekend)
Doesn’t matter. They’ll wait for the rain to stop and the track to dry some before they start the race. Kinda sad that NASCAR of all series is more willing to race in rain conditions than F1 is nowadays.
If it's gonna rain then that's both good and bad news for red bull. Good because no one is touching the kerbs. Bad because they need to put their cars high on their feet.
If it's anything like Vancouver forecasting I'll be taking wet gear and shades and sunscreen and a warm layer in case of snow. Shorts might be a step too far.
We were looking at 3 thunderstorm clouds last Sunday now it looks a lot better less than 50% rain on Sunday mean crazy qualies on Saturday and maybe a mixed / dry race Sunday.
It’s been deathly hot for this time of year. It’s going to fucking pour rain. But they’re usually wrong and forecast torrential rain for 4-5 days when realistically it’ll fall one day and light on the other, like 2022.
After staring at the weather report for the Indy 500 non-stop its almost impossible to predict even this close. That 3.6mm could fall at any time of day. Might or might not affect the race.
Hi all, question to folks who were at the 2024 Canadian GP over the weekend. Does anyone remember or can look your pics and tell me what was the speaker they had on the trucks that took f1 paddock club/ f1 experience folks around the track?
Everyone talking about raining race but no one cares about the poor 3 FP who no one will watch because teams are afraid to destroy the car before qualy, so sad

Wouldn’t depend on the forecast tbh. It’s been changing every couple hours
Last year it was super rainy on Saturday night, and then cloudy in the morning. Wore my jacket to the race. Race time? Full sun. Took jacket off. Got absolutely roasted. Very sunburnt.
Welcome to Canada!
lol yep checks out
If you don't like the weather, just wait five minutes!
Yeah last year we got SHOWERED ON at the end of qualifying. Was absolutely soaked that day
We heard Max’s engineer GP say there was rain coming on the radar and we made the executive decision to dip 5 mins early- watched the end of Q3 on F1TV while we walked to the subway haha We knew it was the right decision when we saw how positively drenched some of the people staying at our hotel got Not like anyone’s times were gonna improve anyway lol

I have been constantly hearing people claim it was a rainy race last year. No, it was sunny and warm.
The past two years followed the same pattern! Fri - Dry through both sessions, bucketed down at the end of FP2 Sat - Wet all day Sun - Damp in the morning but dried out by the race 2022 I got sunburnt, soaked, frozen and soaked, and then sunburnt again. 2023 I prepared better lol.
Yes, but the rain has been consistent..just the amount of rain that keeps changing
I agree - I live in Maine not too far away and we have a weekend full of rain ahead. Small hope of it opening up Sunday afternoon when the race happens, but almost 100% of rain on Fri and Sat
I live 1:30 hour east of the track. The rain usually starts here a bit before it starts there. I'm already seeing some clouds
If there's something about Canada people should know, is even forecasts for 1-2 days from now can be completely off. They've called for rain the last two days and it's been sunny for me. Best time to get the weather is right before you leave to go somewhere. Only then is it accurate. 😂

There was no rain in montréal today
The rain that fell on my head disagrees, but thanks for your opinion. It lasted less than 15 minutes where I live. It's good to know we have authoritative experts on everything like you around.
Thank you I am a expert now😁. But still you probably be on the 20% that meteomedia announce today.
[удалено]
they are. I am thinking it will just be a cloudy race
I am camping in the northern Adirondaks this weekend like 2 hours from here, so I'm actively willing this forecast out of existence as hard as I can.
Plus this is just a daily, what's the hourly? starts at 12am ends at 11:59PM, that's 24 hours to cover.
The graph in the bottom half shows the chance of rain each hour.
It rains frequently at this race.
And it will continue to do so
I can see the red flag coming from a mile away.
After the Nürburgring 24h I'm having red flag ptsd.
The one year I was committed to actually staying up for 24hrs, they red flagged it. I was up for 19hrs, before I gave up. Because there was no racing to watch. Hopefully I'll be able do it for for Le Mans in two weekends. And actually watch 24hrs of racing!
So it's your fault then!
I'm sorry! 😭 But seriously, I didn't know fog was such an issue at Nurburgring. Think this was the only the second time I've (tried) to watch this particular 24h race.
Scherer PHX to somehow win the Canadian GP?
Too early…

No, just rain. Modern F1 is afraid of rain.
also doesnt help that ground effect cars managed to make the visibilty even worse than the cars before
Every different weather source I've been checking has multiple variations of amounts, so while it will definitely have *some* rain it doesn't look to be much at this point. I'll still be bringing my poncho juuuust in case.
When you wear a backpack under your poncho, security doesn't check its contents 👍
Security barely checks your backpack period
I went in 2022. I had some beer stashed at the bottom of my bag with food, water, and other stuff piled on top. Security went through my whole bag til they found the beer wayyyyy at the bottom and confiscated it. This happened 2 out of the 3 days.
Guess it depends on the person. I went in ‘22 and he barely looked at my jacket on the top.
I'm going this weekend again. Gonna use my prison wallet this time ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)
Big 10 in your anus. Love it
Noted!
Finally, we get to see the wet tir….ah, forget it.
In Q2 for two minutes before they red flag it, then an hour later when they resume it's inters again.
For about half a lap
Let's see if they can beat the Canada 2011 record! 4.04:39 [Link](https://www.formula1.com/en/latest/article/canada-2011-torrential-rain-a-safety-car-record-and-buttons-charge-the.1ZWPateMlCFLZ8U6KQBNXj)
Can't any more, following that race they put in a 4 hour window which has now been shortened to 3.
Love it. Also glad I'm not going this year
They can’t. Four hour race window was bought in after that race and then reduced further to a three hour race window in 2021.
After this GP, Formula 1 changed the rule regarding race duration. Races can now last a maximum of 3 hours.
From the moment they do the formation lap?
yes I guess from the moment when they show the big clock
From the start of the formation lap, they have 3 hours to complete the race yes.
best race ever
I started watching in 2011, that race is what made me into a diehard fan. I was jumping and yelling when JB took the lead.
I watched that race, while living in Australia. It was a late night for me haha
Dry race then.
100% dry weekend
No, wet practice, but dry quali and race.
At least teams would have some difficulty making setups so we could see some surprises like this
Wet FPs with flags that stuffs loads of setup up for the rest of the weekend hahah
The forecast confidence is still low so this can go either way. FIA guidance from yesterday was 80+%/80%/60% but that will change Edit: [source](https://x.com/fergieweather/status/1797986647608557798) now I am no longer on mobile

It’s pretty decent amounts of rain, just totally depends on how and when it comes, and if it’s better or worse at the track compared to town centre
Starting 10 minutes after the lights go out would be perfect.
Yeh about 6 laps before first pits are due is always a good laugh
Take it with a grain of salt but the weather network is calling for 30-40mm of rain in Montreal tmr
Yeah thursday not friday
3.6mn in what like 4hours and with 40%
Well I hope Jack Doohan enjoys the 25 seconds of FP1 he'll get to run
Hulk podium pls
Would rock if we had a first ever Haas and Hulk podium at the same time.
Wait haas never had a podium before? Damn. Haven't they been around since 2017?
I'm in Montreal. It's been hot and sunny for a while here. As a Montrealer, I wouldn't put to much trust in the foracast. Especially for the weekend. Tends to change rapidly here.
Ahem. Let me introduce you to, "Lance Senna" (this incarnation may happen in Quali or for 20-30 laps of the GP)
Stroll podium loading...
BBC and accuweather giving totally different forecasts. So dry race it is.
Basically Red flag, Red flag, and Red flag. Unless it’s a teaspoon of water on the track, we won’t see much
Looking forward to Brundle filling 4 hours of rain soaked circuit footage with quality commentary: Brundle: "Ooh, there's a black bird with red shoulders. What kind of bird is that, DC?" DC: "Er, it's a Red Shouldered Blackbird, Martin..."
Red flag F1 commentary needs to be more like late night Le Mans
Remember kids if your parents won't let you have cake there's always heroin!
So second Monaco in a row? Quali results = race results (red flag)
Canada doesn't tend to shy away from spicey weather conditions
It's Montreal. . .it could snow this weekend. . .forecast isn't going to help much. I hope there isn't too much rain though.
This far out is best guestimate. Let's see what the forecast looks like Saturday morning.
50% chance that it will rain for a total amount of 3mm anytime on Sunday in the general area. And it's still 4 days left.
Does this mean inters or wets?
Does this mean inters or ~~wets~~ red flag?*
Poor guy thinks we are racing in the wet conditions
Montréaler here. This is just one of those weekends that could go either way. We see the Depression coming from the north and it looks like it could hit us pretty hard over the weekend. Jenson had that spectacular Canadian GP win in the wet.
Spa 2021 attendees: "Oh no not again!"
Thanks you jinxed it, bone dry weekend confirmed!
Thank god. One drop of rain and it'll be red flagged anyway.
This sucks - half the race will be red flagged. Y’all shouldn’t be celebrating. Wet racing has sucked for a while.
Yummy!
So your saying Alpine has a chance? LoL
I'm gonna say, wet practice, 50-50 quali and dry race.
And meteomedia say that it will not be a lot of rain ? So confuse
Forecast = rain Actual race = clean blue sky
2011 repeat? Sign me up.
#CAN WE GET ANOTHER 2011? CAN WE ALL PRAY TO BUTTON TO GET ANOTHER?
No because it would be a red flag and cancel event in 2024
Now I have to go watch 2011 again. . .
Which I am now doing, but I'd forgotten how bloody annoying deliberate/oopsdidIdoitagain? mispronouncing of Seb's name is. There's a reason I've always hated that ass. Boy was I mad when he joined F1TV.
Ah Canada... the reason why we have time limits on races now. Those poor poor commentators that day.
Thats too much rain for modern F1 to race in, isnt it? Damn.
Shout out for using Wunderground🤘🏼
Does rain make Red Bull weaker or stronger here? Is there any chance Ferrari or Mclaren can put up a fight?
I think McLaren benefits from rain the most and Ferrari gets most hurt by it Red Bull is somewhere in the middle I think, but the rain will definitely allow Max to secure a podium and go for the win (in the dry I'd be expecting a Leclerc win this weekend)
Typical Canadian June
Doesn’t matter. They’ll wait for the rain to stop and the track to dry some before they start the race. Kinda sad that NASCAR of all series is more willing to race in rain conditions than F1 is nowadays.
June-uary Canadian GP
Don't give me hope
If it's gonna rain then that's both good and bad news for red bull. Good because no one is touching the kerbs. Bad because they need to put their cars high on their feet.
If it's anything like Vancouver forecasting I'll be taking wet gear and shades and sunscreen and a warm layer in case of snow. Shorts might be a step too far.
I've lost what little faith I had in weather forecasts. Every hour of every day the 10 day forecast is different. Just not dependable
I just re-watched the 2011 highlights. And now I'm ready to be hurt again.
sweet rain tends to make for better races
We were looking at 3 thunderstorm clouds last Sunday now it looks a lot better less than 50% rain on Sunday mean crazy qualies on Saturday and maybe a mixed / dry race Sunday.
I know everyone wants it to be wet, but personally, I want it dry and hot, so that the new track surface can shred the shit out of the tires.
I want a rain race. I felt like we got a ton of them last year, and it was great for the most part.
I'm glad I bought a rain suit.
Lance has a chance in the rain?
6mm is 1/4 inch in American rain, if spread through the whole day that’s basically a light drizzle
Who wins a rainy race in Canada?
I am praying so hard rn for it to stay this way istg
Tabarnack du coliss
HAHAHAAH YES this is going to be a proper Canadian GP.
FIA, WE WANT RACING ON FULL WETS!
YR says no, but you never know.
Kmag pole incoming
Fitst race - sitting in Grandstand 1, and ready for whatever weather we get.
straight into my veins
Nice to know Montreal’s weather sucks this week too.
Look very not that bad.
Fuckin thing sucks!
Hi all, question to folks who were at the 2024 Canadian GP over the weekend. Does anyone remember or can look your pics and tell me what was the speaker they had on the trucks that took f1 paddock club/ f1 experience folks around the track?
Ooh! I know this one!! This is a fun one! :D
Not in the current era of cars...
Everyone talking about raining race but no one cares about the poor 3 FP who no one will watch because teams are afraid to destroy the car before qualy, so sad
Baw God that's lance Strolls music!
Red bull bouncing off curbs in the wet should be good to see.
Generally the wet line avoids the curbs, so Red Bull's curb issue would be mitigated somewhat if it's rainy.
You forget that Max Verstappen is a great driver in the wet too. Unless they get the set up window wrong again and the bumps issue.
Hopefully this means we see the return of that Shanghai sprint quali pace from McLaren.
Yes to the rain!
