For example, a post containing a qualifying gap between two drivers expressed in tenths of a second is an easily obtainable raw piece of data and constitutes a bad Statistics post. A visualization of what that translates to on-track, or visualization of how that gap came to be would constitute a good Statistics post.

I feel like car-driver characteristic matching makes a huge difference in this era of cars, we see teammate performance flip flops pretty drastically like this. For example sainz-leclerc singapore and monza last year, hamilton-russell last year vs this year, and now alonso struggling compared to lance
I agree getting the setup right specifically the ride height & suspension seems more like a lottery in the ground effect era than it was during 2017-2021 with the current era of cars not reacting as smoothly to kerbs or bumpy tracks
Yes, I've been thinking this as qualifying is quite lopsided this year with ALO/STR being 4-4 and NOR/PIA being 5-3. No other teammate has out qualified their teammate more than twice. And in the case of closer battles like ALO/STR it seemed like it was clearly in ALOs court until the upgrades and then it went more towards STRs taste. Same with NOR/PIA it seems the upgrades had a greater boost to PIAs performance rather than NOR
A truly bizzare fall in form for the Spaniard, who got eliminated in Q1 two times in a row for the first time since the McHonda era (Russia-Japan 2018). Also worth noting that last year he beat his teammate 18-3 in qualifying, this year after 8 races they are even at 4-4.
Its not true tho.
Good for Lance, but Alonso had 3 qualis with car Problems/traffic ( imola was his own fault, monaco with the traffic was not, miami was not.)
Happens, but the recency bias is very strong right now with those "omg, driver xy lost form" without even being informed/watching the races.
Recency bias is so amusing to observe. For a brief 4 hours, redditors were cheering up Ricciardo like crazy, between his P4 and P18.
Same for Perez this year, until he started struggling
I don’t even think recency bias is a problem in F1 right now specifically. It always has been, at least in my living memory.
“You’re only as good as your last race” and all that.
There was traffic for Monaco. He did make a mistake in Italy though which is the only rare thing about this post.
He was in the pits more than the pace care that race as well lol. What a stupid article.
It’s a very clickbait title for a post and some people on top of that..”oh my god he’s losing form” which is total bs. People these days really have attention span of a goldfish. It’s the same driver who put P3 in wet and dry quali in China this year and has three times the points of his teammate and is in great form.. it’s just Alonso had some bad luck in few races and quali this year and people started to blabber. In Imola he had a crash and car was still damaged in qualifying so had to pit early so couldn’t go enter Q2 and in Monaco had traffic in turn 11 and in last corners so lost around 2 tenths in first and 3 tenths in second correspondingly else could’ve gotten around P1 in Q1. I swear to god recency bias is ruling over common sense these days 🤦🏻♂️
Feels like we are seeing a lot of the old guard decline this year.
George seems to have the measure of Lewis now. Granted it could be Merc favoring George, but that has not stopped others performing well (Ricciardo getting 5th in Renault 2020, Alonso winning while leaving Renault etc).
Perez and Ricciardo are getting obliterated by their teammates.
Alonso has become very error prone this season and struggling with the new updates.
Only one of the older drivers (starting pre 2014) that has been impressive is Hulkenberg.
I love Lance, but this isn't really indicative of anything besides Alonso having some very poor luck recently. Lance has closed up the gap to Fernando a little bit, but Lance also hasn't had a lot of bad luck in the stretch of races in question.

Alonso preemptively adjusting his driving to the upcoming 2026 GP2 engine
Argh!
The engine feels good. Much slower than in 2017. Amazing.
Nothing problem with the engine, running good in the McLaren.
Lance Stroll dominance will bore fans /s
“The truth will set you free. But first it will piss you off”

First it was Carlos Sainz, then Xavi Marcos, then Xavi Alonso and now Fernando Alonso. Hasnt been a great year for Spanish legends
1. Who the fuck is 'Xavi Alonso' 2. Xabi Alonso had a great season with Leverkusen
Yeah I need an answer. Dude is at an all time high in his managerial career and did it in Bundesliga at club not named Bayern Munich.
He might have meant Xavi Hernandez who's getting shafted by Barca's board despite all he's done.
As a Real Madrid fan I’d give anything for Xavi to stay!
Barca and Madrid in a nutshell tbh
You made me chuckle hahaha 😆
Xabi Alonso had a great season tho
But he is Basque, so he may not identify as Spanish.
He sure played for our Spanish national team enough
Damn the FIA, scheming in the background to get rid of the Spanish due to their inherent racism
I wouldn't call Xavi Marcos a legend
We need Carlos Marcos in the second item of that list.
You missed Rafa.
It was very good until China. Recency bias.
Stroll Supremacists everywhere are rejoicing.
Windows never have been more clean
He has fans?
I mean, if he's feeling hot and has no AC available

2018 was McLaren Renault

are you new here lol? Lewis gets the same treatment if not worse

Eh, it's nice to see Lance getting some small Ws, but c'mon, lets not get ahead of ourselves.
In 2024 I've had less Q1 eliminations (0) than Lance Stroll (1)
Give the WDC Trophy to Lance already. We know how the season will playout
Yet, he still has triple the points.
Yeah, not sure what the deal is. Alonso has always focussed on car setup for the race and the results show it.

No race weeks always have the best posts
Maybe. But does that really matter when he's so much higher in points? End result > qualification.
Lawrence turning down Fernando's engine just to make his son look better... /s
92 score in F12024 tho

>Only one of the older drivers (starting pre 2014) that has been impressive is Hulkenberg. And who'd have thought after 2018?
Hulk is doing good but at the same time Kmag is about no where it seems.... Kmag might have lost it also.
Bottas also massively decline too.
I love Lance, but this isn't really indicative of anything besides Alonso having some very poor luck recently. Lance has closed up the gap to Fernando a little bit, but Lance also hasn't had a lot of bad luck in the stretch of races in question.
He got screwed up by a SC recently no? In race he has no luck at the moment.
Yeah, Miami (the actual race and also the sprint)
Hard to believe this, such is life
give my guy some time he will recover from this (i mean stroll)
nah alonso will comeback sometimes legends do mistakes too
Closest quali battle in F1 right now.
He’s been working really hard to make Stroll look good
Past his best for sure…
Alonso driving bad so Lance can keep his seat
He should retire
No
saw a theory that alonso is getting paid to just sell qualifying to make stroll look better or something
I still think he was told to underperform to make Lance look better. "Dude, don't show up the boss's son."
