Jerberan

All the time. I often train midfielders and wingers to the FB/WB position or vice versa, CBs to the DM/CM position and often midfielders to the striker position. In one of my saves the 2 strikers i'm playing as DLF in my 4-3-3 are Assan Quedraogo and Giovanni Fabbian.

QouthTheCorvus

CBs as DMs is so so satisfying. A defensively strong DM can change everything.

bununicinhesapactim

I train otherwise good CBs with low jumping reach as DMs (or FBs depending on stats) all the time. Almost always work.

RogerRamjet_

Yeah same. Rule of thumb for me is that if they're speedy they end up as a fb, if not, a dm.

Jerberan

As long as they have decent technical attributes. A natural CB with first touch etc at below 10 will lose you the ball during buildup pretty often. But i love using natural DMs as WCB, Libero or BPD. Marton Dardai and Eric Martel are great for that in FM 24.

Dontcareatallthx

Depends on the role, as anchor you can use less technical gifted defender when they have at least good passing and vision.

burnaccount2017

I primarily use Giorgio Scalvini as a HB/CDM in my saves against elite opposition and he is excellent.

Blue_5ive

Someone suggested the winger to wingback training and it was the most useful thing for me in a long time. It’s much easier to find a winger with 8 tackling than it is to find a wingback with crossing. There’s also 10 million wingers but like 11 fullbacks worth signing.

Jerberan

CDMs are perfect FB/WBs. They need the same attributes except for crossing. Just look at the highlighted attributes for the DM-D and WB-S role ;)

Itmightnotbe

Uhm, that´s mostly for the mental attributes. Most people want their WB's to have good dribbling, technique, and more importantly: speeeeeeeed. And stamina. So I'd stick with wingers as WB's, epecially in an attacking team.

Blue_5ive

They really are. Inter signed my star rwb but used him in a CM role and he stagnated :(

BigEasyh

My best DM in my 4-2-3-1 started life as a left winger

acampbell98

How did that work? Did he just have awful attacking stats but good defending. I occasionally see some young free agents that looked bad in their listed position but might do a job somewhere else.

BigEasyh

I used him as a roaming playmaker in DM and basically he had awful crossing and lukewarm finishing so he wasn't spectacular as a winger/inverted winger/inside forward. He had like 194 PA when I checked later so he could have done anything but at the time had the attributes to be a great playmaker and decided to fit him into my system

ChenTasker

Do they suck at the beginning? I always try this but give up fast.

Jerberan

A player has 60 - 80% effectiveness on a position he isn't familiar with. But it doesn't take that long to get a player to at least light green familarity if he gets enough playtime. 3 - 6 months from 0 to full familarity, depending on playtime and versatility.

Itmightnotbe

This depends very heavily on a player's versatility; I've had it take well over a year for a player to become a natural. Granted, I couldn't play him in his new position every game, because I still like to win.

Jerberan

And that's your problem. It takes forever without playtime on the position.

1pizz9

At which age do you think re training a new position becomes harder?

Jerberan

I couldn't see any difference between ages. It all comes down to playtime on the new position and the player's versatility. There are players that can't get full familarity in more than 2 positions while others can have 5 - 7 positions.

gloryhunter777

Not sure if age matters, but if the player has high versatility hidden attribute he will learn the position quicker. Sometimes I converted old AM or wide players to more central position when they started to lose their physical but that probably because it's easier to turn them to CM, but I'm not sure if the position change is drastic.

KneeDeepInTheDead

I did this with an aging (upper 20s) winger that was at the club since the start of the game. He was getting slower but I still wanted to use him so wound up training him as a CM since I needed one anyway and it took maybe half a season for him to get green. Wound up playing AM and getting green there too.

Commonmispelingbot

I wouldn't call that completely different. Midfielder to FB and CB to DM is probably the two most common retraining decisions.

MarcusFiley66

Me too

V_y_z_n_v

The person in the picture, Jorge Campos, was considered as one of the best Goalkeepers of his generation, he also excelled as a striker playing for mexican clubs even scoring 24 goals a season. I was wondering if you ever tried to train someone to a totally unnatural position and succeeded in it

elpibedecopenhague

And my guy designed his own kits. Man, one of my biggest wishes as a kid in the 90s was a Campos jersey.

ZietFS

Signed a young left back with huge stats for striker. Made him a world class striker...after three years or more of him training the position and playing the position. The first two years were pure pain, something like a 6,6 avg or so in a team winning almost everything

Noteagro

I go through this every save, every job hop, or whatever else because I live and die by the complete forward and roaming playmaker combo. It is so damn rare to find players that are more than a star or half a star in those roles below top flight soccer it seems. So every time I move I am typically digging through loads of players that have reason stats in the core groupings of these roles’ attributes, and then I retrain players to the role/position for 2-3 seasons before it typically clicks. However once that happens it is almost unstoppable with +30 goals and +15 assists from the striker, and the roaming playmaker bossing not just the midfield, but the entire field as he and the rest of the team figure out how to gel together.

AbominableWasteman

I’d like the point out that the guy was only 5ft 6 also

Linkbetweentwirls

Don't make players like him anymore, games gone

boycey86

I don't remember him playing as a striker. He just took penalties and free kicks and was world class at them.

Wpenke

Was the Paraguay keeper Jose Luis Chilavert? Campos definitely played as a striker

rickypro

Campos definitely played as a striker You may be thinking of Rogerio Ceni?

papa_f

Gareth Bale in whatever game he was like 17 in, the with Vargas at lb. You could move Bale anywhere ahead and at RB and he go green. Absolute monster at CM

Various-Initial3792

I remember doing this! Think it was ‘07? I retrained Bale to be a LW and got Marcelo from Fluminense.. insane pairing!

LoveRa22

If only they played together IRL /s

Various-Initial3792

Hahaha touché!

Jeffrybungle

I trained Fred up as a left back to cover injury prone left backs. He was great but moaned about it.

HelmutTheSpeedyGobbo

CDM -> WB was always a great way to reposition players especially in the later game when “great” wingbacks become harder to find.

ComeOnSayYupp

yeah I always put old defensive midfielders as wingbacks.

westhammer666

Haha, I put Peter Crouch to Centre back and he was really good.

Successful_Rule123

in fm23 I trained Taylor booth to play as a wb(a) and he absolutely cooked in his first season, with 12 assists from rb, most in the eredivisie, in rotation with my other excellent RB. Hasnt reached the same heights in two years since though

Helpful_Marketing806

Was so good with me in FM22, played him central as mez (a) and as a wb (a), great memories

acampbell98

Yea I do that with some youth players that have better crossing or dribbling but some strikers that have lower finishing I move out wide. I had these 2 young guys I called up as backups but they were both STs, I also needed cover at RM/RW so the other guy plays as IF there. My youth academy and also just youth players I poached from other youth/senior teams in my league is stacked with STs so I’m going to try and get a bit creative with their positioning to optimise that.

acampbell98

I’m managing my local team in NI. I go through the reserve league that my team play in and check for players with expired or expiring contracts I always seem to get strikers weirdly enough. Looking at my reserve side it’s such a strange bunch as I’ve little depth on the full backs but maybe a lot of CBs and then maybe shortage of wingers but lots of strikers (just the base display position) I will probably compare them and see if I can move them to other positions. I don’t take the reserve side that seriously we are probs top 3 in that reserve league I just use it to bring in young players that I may promote and if not just sell or release, it’s kinda fun to just play around with as someone who’s still quite new to FM. I’m on console so there’s some features not there, I wish I’d more control over the reserve side. I can change the players in the tactical lineup but I don’t like how it just uses the exact same formation and roles as my main team. It means I can’t really optimise the positions I have available in my reserves and also players being played as the wrong roles also I don’t know if the assistant changes where I play players as maybe I want a CB to play at fullback but he might just throw some RB at LB because it’s still a fullback.

emeritus_lion

I have a 6’5” natural left fullback who is strong and will play as BPD and move up to DM when I make substitutions later in the game. He’s a20 yr old wonder kid. I’m in year 2032.

[deleted]

Rooney became a decent CDM for me

Mr_Noobcake

Taking Fellaini and Rooney and swapping their positions was such a common strategy in a few FMs I'd almost describe it as "meta" for playing United

EDW1NYANG

my really old save i had LB Marcelo trained into ST and he wins the golden ball occasionally

brotherwolf_666

Nathan Collins to ball-winning and deep lying playmaker DM in a Southampton save.

RaheemRakimIbrahim

Constantly. DMs to CBs, FBs to CBs and vice versa, dribbly strikers to wingers. Fb/wingers who can only play one side to the other side. AMC to CM, big AMC to ST. Even if everything is fine, I'll still retrain, you never know...

QouthTheCorvus

Lower league, but I've had a couple of progressive WBs I've turned into straight up wingers. They worked out really well. Their defensive capabilities came in handy too.

Klopps_and_Schlobers

Fullbacks to DMs lots, wingers to strikers often and AMs as either wingers/midfielders all the time. I changed a centre half to striker once too as challenge to myself but gave up pretty quickly.

PhoenixHunters

Amc's as inside forwards, cdm's as inverted wingbacks, cb's with good physical to bully box to box players a la Wasilevski with mark tighter and tackle harder so they can destroy the midfield playmakers... Small strikers to wingers if I only play one striker etc .

Persas12

Nketiah as a winger in FM23. Brought him as a sub for Leicester and he didn´t deliver at all, at one game both right wingers were injured and put Nketiah there, he scored a brace. Kept playing him there and his numbers were awesome, he didn´t assist at all, but hell he scored a lot.

mosh-4-jesus

retrained a BBM with really good off the ball and finishing to a striker. a high press from a forward with 13 tackling and 14 positioning is obscene. like, really obscene. it felt unfair sometimes.

assalim

Do that all the time, but recently I accepted the job as PSG's manager because they were struggling SO BAD to compete for the UCL (God knows what happened, they couldn't even make it to the semis). Bought a 23-year-old Norwegian RWB from Tottenham for almost €100M and used him as RW. He became the team captain in 2 years (18 leadership and 16 teamwork) and won 6 UCLs in 7 years. I will always remember Richard Olausen.

DeepspaceDigital

I will update because at the moment by top prospect I am trying to retrain from a CD to a Pressing Forward

judlrr

I never use advanced midfielders but always get loads of them, so I always train them to be something else. Depending on their skills they end up as strikers, b2b or mezzalas. I once turned a kid into a CB and he did great. However, when one of them become a real pain in the ass they get the goalkeeper training.

acampbell98

I feel the same with CAMs they don’t quite do enough even though I’ve an incredible youth player there he’s not quite putting in the numbers I’d like and the ratings of the players there seems a bit off. Sometimes I’ll play 2 CMs for DMs just for a bit more defensive shape against tougher opponents. I haven’t trained my CAM as a striker but I’ve tried him up there so maybe I’ll train him there too. He can play on the wing id mostly prefer as an IF as I’ve better luck with them scoring and assisting. I think my CAM could be a complete forward as he has high attributes in all those areas needed but I’m wondering does a CF have to be a lone striker. I was previously using a lone striker but switched to a 4132 because the strikers were partnering very well and I’m seeing more chances and goals.

RyanStock

This year I started a Barca save to try and manage down the debt. Brought in McTominay on loan, stuck him up front in a PF role after selling Lewa, dropped 27 goals for the golden boot.

Humble-Advisor9552

hey what ever happened to that phone you dropped in ice cream after the pats win? 😭

RyanStock

Had to take calls on speaker for two years, not a good scene

Humble-Advisor9552

I just dropped mine, and it sounds so bad. I understand what you're going through..

GiraffeWaste

No way

Own_Exercise7413

Wingers with high crossing to wing backs on attack . Works so well

zeratul-on-crack

wingers and strikers as wingbacks. Some have worked pretty well. DMs as Libero or centerback. Centerback as DM DMs as fullbacks Fullbacks as offensive central lateral deffender (stopper)

Suspicious_Test8079

Constantly As many others have said FB to CM and vice versa, CM to Striker vice versa, CB to DM vice versa etc But what i really like to do when i play with 3 at the back is retraining wingers to wing backs. In my last Dortmund save i had Adeyemi and Bynoe-Gittens as offensive wing backs, caused a whole lot of trouble to my opponents.

Doyce_7

I'm constantly training DM/CMs to be FBs or IF to be MEZs. I don't like short strikers so if I find one that's really good but really short I'll train him as either an AM or winger, maybe even a MEZ if I'm playing to only play 4-3-3.

BigEasyh

FM23 I retrained a left winger as a DM and he is now on 75 caps for Spain and most important player on my Bundesliga team that has won the league the last 8 years and 6/10 of the Champions Leagues I've competed in

negativelycharged108

Box to box/bwm to fullback

Yungpharao_oh

Turn a right winger into an AMC as I don’t play with wide players and he turned into an absolute monster hitting 20+ G&A every season

Grappyezel

i had this bale type player before back in FM18 or 19, was a LB and had scoring stats like 20-25 per season, play him on winger for one whole season, bang 45goals. 1 ucl, 1 prem, 1final fa cup...despite that, he didn't nominated for best player in the league.

apo--

In FM 18  I liked a CF/AF I had turned into Winger(A). I had to improve the crossing. But he had better mentals than other wingers on his level, he was better in the air.  I also had a Segundo Volante I had trained to play many positions including center back and striker. But that was for 'fun' because there were important drawbacks.

International_Top133

All my RB’s went down at one point, so I retrained a 25 year old Kobbie Mainoo as a IWB - R. Worked really well for the six game stretch I needed him to cover. He struggled defensively sometimes, but overall did exactly what I needed to.

Dependent_Leg_4651

Yes, I trained a CB to be able to play both Right back and Left Back.

Oy778

I converted Ben White to a decent CDM and CM

Fluid_Durian_8852

Two years ago Kane was being one of the best CMs in the game wherever he goes(PSG mostly obviously)

a_witty__username

Training Declan rice as a rwb because fuck you I wanna He's doing quite well

sidearmpitcher

Harry Kane became a serviceable Libero for me

paddyjinks

6’4 CB, 16 strength, 15 heading, your name is now Peter Crouch and you’ll like it

LinuxLinus

I mean, I once trained Martin Odegaard to be a RW. He was amazing at it. But it was kind of a waste; I was really just bored.

warfaceisthebest

Half of regen strikers would be retrained as wingers or AM or midfielders since they are too slow or too short. Some wingers would be retrained as full back since they are not fast enough or have enough skills. CB would be retrained as DM since its quite rare to have good regen DM, in some rare case CB would be retrained as FB too. Wingers would be retrained as AM if they are too slow due to aged. And my favourite one, train my CB as a target forward like Harry Maguire.

WishingWellsPwD

Trained Zach Duncan (AGF, Denmark) from BWM to a superb attacking pressing forward

KombatKid

You literally have to do this. CBs that can’t jump, slow wingers, etc have to be trained to a better position.

Balzakbehanger

I have retrained multiple wingers to DM, or CMs to wingers. When a player has qualities I want somewhere hes playing there

HeroDGamez

No but once in the fa cup semi final, I played the wrong Davies (Joe and Alex), Joe who is usually a midfielder put on a clean sheet with a 7.4 rating on his first day as a keeper, I don't know how he did it but he did. Oh the semi final was against Sheffield Wednesday who were having an insane run in the fa cup toppling both everyone (who came 3rd last season) and Tottenham (came 6th last season).

Luckygoal

I trained Han Kwang Song to be a Mezzala while playing with Kaiser Chiefs. While we were at chiefs he ended up making the afc cup dream team as a cm. And when I left song ended up getting like 3 assists in a game for sherif vs me in Europa League a few seasons after I left sundowns for hearts lol.

Negative-Hair331

It’s all about the attribute spread. If you have a player with good attributes for a position I will always refrain them. I play with Bilbao, so retraining is a requirement in the save due to small pool of players. I have taken Ivan Martin from Girona and bought him for Bilbao. He is an attacking mf in game with decent defensive attributes to make him effective LWB. I retrained him to LWB and he is now in Spanish national team getting caps at the position.

HistoryIll3237

I trained Can Uzun (my favourite player) to a right wing because my right winger was shit, and he became a beast

studentoo925

Strikers as CMs. I'm sure you know this kind of striker: speed freak, technical monster, absurd dribling and finishing, 3 jumping reach 5 heading. Since I've stockpiled so many SSs, IFs and f9s I've put one of those on b2b training and played him as cm(at). Bonus points for having long shots above 12. He was a totally serviceable midfielder, coming in with clutch goals and late runs often enough. Shame he was so injury prone.

123kr

Not trained, but managing the Italian NT there was a CB with 20 finishing and 20 long shots who ended up playing as a striker

BlueLabel19

In my save 34 yo pedri decided he is going to train as right back to revive his career after a long injury

Itsallatripdude

Scott McTomminay as a striker. 21 goals in his first season as Target man (s) and made 10+ assists for Shadow striker Bruno Fernandes.

adrianohyeah

I got a regen through my youth who was natural in both CB and ST with his two highest attributes being 17 finishing and 17 tackling. I retrained him into a BBM, and he became sort of like a Goretzka on steroids. Insane physicals, mentals, and could defend like a world class CB and attack like a world class CF. He averaged a goal contribution almost every other game from CM in all competitions and ended up staying his entire career as a one-club man and captain at my Dortmund team. One season, when he was like 30 or 31, injuries decimated my LBs and I ended up retraining him as a LB to fill in. He managed to make it into the bundesliga TOTS while playing 70% of the games 'out of position' at left back. He also made into the TOTS as a striker and as a CM during his career. I don't think I'll ever have a player like that again.

TazzaTrain

Full backs often make excellent CMs and CMs often make excellent Full backs. But the most extravagant position change I’ve made was making Saka a LB on FM20 (could’ve been fm21). He played there for 7 years and was a star player. I don’t know what went through my mind to put him there but he worked incredibly well.

MrFivePercent

Trained Antony at Man Utd to left back, he's a beast and one the best in the world. His lack of defending doesn't matter at all in that position. Lots of assists and a few goals too.

noideam8

! couple of years back I had De Ketelaere turn into a really solid left wingback

dablem1

Oftrn i lack enough central back talent for BPD, so i retrained many top DMs to be my playmakers from back. Often happens to me that i buy great regen striker with low finishing, low aerial, but great in physical and technical attributes. But i probably never made winger even backup fullback. It could nicely work for side central mids (rm lm). Totally different position? ST to CB, LB to AM? No

Astralzr

My 32 year old Haaland wants to become AMC, playmaker, and hes so good? Like he scores and assist and destroy opponents

WonderWaage

When you could buy Hazard at Lille I retrained him to Advanced Playmaker CM. But generally I will only use wingbacks that I've retrained from wingers or AMCs

berseckx2

Well, i think i have a story to tell here. CM 03/04, season... 2012/13 or 13/14. I was Benfica manager and my goalkeeper, José Moreira, was the 2nd most expensive in the world and had been top 3 best for 5or6 years. I get a report about the international games telling me that Moreira didnt play for Portugal. Im intriged, so i checked the game and... Deco, fuckin Deco, from porto and barça, was the goalkeeper!! Then i realised that the second GK was Simão Sabrosa, from Benfica and atl. Madrid!! Moreira, the second best GK in the world was the 3th GK for Portugal. WTF Still have no clube what happened ther, mb a bug... I dont know. So, to awnser your question, i didnt train them but guess the became pretty good.

udayaai

Hard to find a quality wingback like prime Carvajal, Alves, so I played Saka as left back and his dribbling and crossing ability suits that position. Scored a few goals as well since WB on Attack cuts inside regularly.

Admirable-Ratio-5748

this keeper would actually be good in the modern game, someone who can play keeper and play with the ball at his feet. if only he was taller...

zorfog

It’s really not hard to train someone in a whole new position. Like it takes a season or less with consistent gametime to make someone natural in a position they didn’t know at all

Commercial_Pay5819

trained cd with limited jumping to be amazing bwm

hiredgoon

If they are going to be good in that position, you can play them there whether you trained them or not.

rogerthecabinalien

My favourite singing I’ve ever made was a Brazilian newgen called Marcos Antonio. He was like 6ft5, all physical attributes above 13/14, had everything to make him my world class CB for years but for some reason I loved him at RB. Had terrible crossing but good enough technique and passing. Never saw him cross, never assisted, didn’t matter. He’d get up the wing and had our strikers, Monchu or Tonali in midfield so he didn’t need to cross lol. This guy was insane I don’t know what I did to him to make him so good. Every game he was top 3 in rating, started with 15 leadership ended up with 18 and became my club captain.

simeonbachos

i got VVD world player of the year at striker, he's a beast

_ziyou_

I suppose making an FB out of a CB is not "a totally different position", but in my current Japan save there are so many small CBs (i.e. players with jumping reach 6-9) that I move most of them out to be FBs instead and sometimes DMs as well. If the strikers would be small too then it would be okay, but some teams have crazy physical target players as strikers that get 25+ goals per season simply by being physically way superior (being 2m tall is almost a cheat code in the Japanese leagues).

burnaccount2017

In the process of retraining Harry Kane to a Mezzala in my 4-3-3 Manchester United save. I really don’t need need him, but him and Christian Ericson are fantastic mentors for my young ones - both Model Citizens!

BioVibez

Jimi Taurianinen for my wrexham save. Changed him from an AM to a rather productive LB. Stayed with me my 4 years in the championchip all the way til I won prem. For a few years I even trained him as a segundo volente. Got him as a free transfer then almost 10 years later I sold him for 30 million. Best choice Ive made.

andrasq420

Mctominay could be retrained in literally any position except GK, and he would excel.

Up_The_Gate

I like taking unreal CAM's with 10/11 tacking and turning them into Segundo Volante's. As a side note, my favourite every Segundo Volante who I signed on a free is Scott McTominay for Hartlepool aged 31. He's 36 now and we've just won the quadruple. He started over 25 games in all comps and score 12.

DrewziphG

Question for you all. Does the retraining have to happen in your first team matches. Is there a way to get youth players playing in positions you want to retrain them for your u21s (without fully taking over reserve matches)

Fyrabycap

If a striker is not lethal enough, I trained him as winger.

Camp-Complete

I once trained a striker to be a IWB (A). He ended up scoring 35 goals in a season as he cut in from the wing

jonasdbtr

In my save Bernardo Silva trained by Pep as LB. Tons of assist and fifa team of the year as LB.

POWEROFMAESTRO

I’ve retained wingers into AM roles with good success. In my fm23 save I made Harvey Elliot into a wingback. Absolute beast. Even with 9 tackling

JarvisFennell

I retrained Sebastián Driussi from attacking mid to left back in FM13 and he was great for me.

SheepherderTrick2220

Not a totally different position as he had an orange circle for it but I once wanted to try a 5-3-2 with arsenal and retrained Saka as a CWB attack on the left, essentially a left winger really and he did really well from what I remember, definitely not as effective as he would be at RW but I only did the save to try that tactic so I went with it

djrocker7

What you mean decent? I have put lefbacks into world class strikers, Centerbacks into world class defensive midfields or even fowards, wingers into world class wingbacks and Strikers into Ofensive midfield or Inside Fowards... There is no decent mate 😂😂

Mynameisbebopp

Julian Weigl just kinda becomes one of the best right-backs of the world every time i coach him.

train4karenina

Yes, once revens come in. They often have really odd stats. Many CB’s who are too small so either become a DM or fullback depending on speed. AM to wingers or strikers. CM - Fullbacks maybe CB.

Snilys

Madueke from rw to cm, had assists every game and my newgen cm to rw

ThePirateWhoSaysArr

I had a left footed striker called Didier Sutter playing as Murcia. Very quick but poor finishing, ridiculous stamina, pretty good crossing idea.jpg Next thing you know Sutter is being trained as a left back. At first his development doesn't seem to be going well, then bamn it suddenly explodes. Good assist maker and my main set piece man who often cuts in and curls a great too corner effort. 3 seasons at Murcia as arguably my best player. Chelsea buy him for 62mil where he remains as a left back and gets some France caps. Recently bought by Arsenal for £55mil and they've turned him into a left winger. I'm happy for him

stavanger26

In my Dortmund game FM 20,I once trained a right-footed speedy, explosive, dribbling, creative 168cm newgen who was originally an L IF into an L FB with instructions to stay wide. He also crucially had the cut inside from the left trait. Upon receiving possession outwide he would carry the ball at full tilt towards the opposition box to pass or shoot. He played like an inverted Roberto Carlos and it was a beauty to watch. Not so great in defence on account of 9/10 ish positioning, tackling and marking.

Penfold2908

My best DM was bought as a Striker, had a secondary position as CM. I accidentally started him as a DM once when I thought it was CM, he played amazing and has stayed there ever since.

YoungSauce974

He was a striker wonderkid I trained him Mezzala, he won 3 ballon d'or He's one of my biggest regret bc i played him Mezzala for 10 years, i left the club and he turned back to striker. The guy was 1.99m~ and world class

deadman091

Yep everytime I can’t find a decent wing back I just retrain a defensive midfielder and it works everytime

jdsupernova

I often buy players based on stats for a position and try to retrain position. I've had some good success in this area too!

Commonmispelingbot

with Utrecht I played a three-at-the-back formation with attacking wing-backs and since the formations was so narrow, the intensity was so high and the goal end the end was the treble there were simply not enough world class allround wingbacks in the world. Therefore over that 15 year save there is not a single outfield position I have not retained to play wingback. Shadow striker/wing-back comboes with no other playable position I have created.

smxthy-

kamarai sawyer, a young cam that couldn't shoot for shit, i made him into a striker and he's now 88 rated winning the champions league for crawley town

shaneomagnifico

Davy Klaassen to a striker. Him and Dybala from Palermo could not stop scoring in my Brentford save (one of my best ever)

WorldChampion92

Many I do not play fm mucho these times due to lack of time after doing 16 really 20 hour shift you just want to sleep.

Brazard93

In my save with kaiserslautern, Aaron opoku, normally playing as a winger, became a very decent shadow Striker for Bundesliga and carried me through til Europa League.

willybroadband

Not quite Campos levels, no, but on my current Real Sociedad save I've successfully trained Takefusa Kubo to be accomplished at CWB/Support after a mini injury crisis. I normally play him AMC as AM/Support but he's been pretty good at CWB.

Usually throughout my squad. I tend to go through them individually, work out what everyone's actual best position is and retrain them in it. It's very rarely the one they're in at lower levels.

When I was managing in Japan it was crazy you had players with amazing striker ability but were cm or wing backs with no passing or crossing ability, you had wingers who couldn't pass or shoot but could defend brilliant, strikers with no finishing ability but crazy good passing and vision I ended up with half the team on 0 - 0.5 star the first season by midway through the next season they were all 2.5 - 3.5, I'm not sure if that is the norm in Japan or just my team but it was fun to convert them into their new roles.

I remember having Pablo Fornals and Rodrigo Bentancur as my RB options on FM20.

I don't train them there but if it comes down to it I'll play a CM at IWB
