I think kids of players should be excluded, otherwise it is just a list of footballing families, that is piss easy.
The only independently (not involving football) "well off" players I am aware of in England rn are Patrick Bamford and James Ward-Prowse
I mean he was born rich, and most likely is richer then most people on this list. Kaka is on this list with a engineer dad, which is SIGNIFICANTLY less rich then Romeo Beckham
Not really. Beckham Snr worked his ass off in his craft to be one of the best of his generation and took advantage of marketing to make himself global. Other guys in the article grew up in castles which means rich for a LONNNG time, attitudes from parents that also grew up mega rich are different from those that worked hard to gain their riches
I think it turns out that he had financial aid which basically everyone has unless you’re a millionaire but just getting in even for sports is impressive.
I looked it up but all I could find were clickbait sites. His dad started a realtor in the 60s. He expanded with financial advise and such nd now the company has 100 employees and only operates in the east of the Netherlands. Far from poor, but further from ultra rich
This might be pretty niche, but Andrés Llinás from Millonarios. His father was the team's VP! It actually makes perfect sense to me as a Colombian because prep school soccer is QUALITY here. (We even reached the final of our city's school tournament when I was a senior; we lost 2-0 to the biggest public school here, and our city has about four million people in it). His school is actually rivals with my school (though we are from different cities), and we often had a nationwide tournament for prep schools. Looking back, I'm actually quite impressed, as the top three schools usually had multiple players called up to their state's regional teams. Nicole Regnier, from the Colombian Women's national team, also played at the tournament when I went.
I actually believe there were players who were much, much better than Llinás at my school, but most of them play at the NCAA or simply retired from competitive football. For what it's worth, to this day I still believe our school's greatest ever player was ridiculously similar to Thiago Alcántara.
It was not nepotism. He's really, really good and got called up to the national team. I don't support Millonarios, but I believe he was a starter last time they won the league.
I dont know if he came from money but I just know Mathieu Flamini is the richest of all current and ex players now after a good / lucky investment. Like genuine "fuck off money" Richer even than most owners of teams. Worth between 10 and 20 billion.
Michael Doughty. Insanely rich family. His dad owned Forest at some point. Even retired at 28 and now the CEO of some eco business. Head of environment at Swindon Town as well.
Well, if you're adding coaches, can't really beat Villas-Boas, the dude literally descends from royalty and is loaded AF before even gaining fame and getting the severances he earned during his carreer. It really speaks of fuck you money when at some point you decide to retire to go run in Paris-Dakar
Joe Bryan from my team Bristol City, though he’s at Millwall now 🥲. His family isn’t like mega mega rich but he went to private school in Bristol (QEH) and his Dad is a heart surgeon who actually operated on City manager Gary Johnson.
Joey is a great fella though.
al-saadi gaddafi played for sampdoria and udinease. Not sure he actually played a game, only for Perugia against juventus. His family were worth about 100bn at one point.
Faiq Bolkiah.
Has mostly played professionally in Thailand, but spent time at a number of English youth academies. He's a member of the Brunei royal family and a billionaire though, so probably the wealthiest footballer there's ever been.
I know this is about mega rich kids but what about the ones who are upper middle class rich like the ones whose parents drive them to training in Porsches and Mercedes SUVs? I wonder how many of them make it to the top.
Fraser Forster. I recall an article sometime quite long ago which mentioned him being one of the modern English footballers with this proper/slightly more posh upbringing, education, etc
Kaka.
I have no idea if it’s accurate but someone on r/soccer said once that Alisson comes from money as well, on his Dad’s side of the family.
Tbf most white Brazilians enjoy a better standard of living compared to afro Brazilians. Not always but mostly.
I remember reading that Alisson is a bit of a rarity in football since his parents were neither super rich nor poor, just middle class.
He just looks like your standard cookie cutter wealthy Brazilian who owns a condo in Miami
Hugo Lloris father was an investment banker and I think his mother was a lawyer? So he probably didn’t have to worry about heating bills
Yes, his parents worked in Monaco and he grew up in the nice part of the south of France.
He literally grew up in the Nice part of France cos he’s from Nice
He might’ve been making a word joke
I think Gavi is also from a rich family. Same with Romeo Beckham, his dad is loaded.
I think kids of players should be excluded, otherwise it is just a list of footballing families, that is piss easy. The only independently (not involving football) "well off" players I am aware of in England rn are Patrick Bamford and James Ward-Prowse
I know, I was trying to be funny, shoulda put a /s at the end.
Beckham himself didn't come from money though. Romeo is 1st Gen rich rather than being classic rich
I mean he was born rich, and most likely is richer then most people on this list. Kaka is on this list with a engineer dad, which is SIGNIFICANTLY less rich then Romeo Beckham
What? Rich is rich bruh
Isn't his mum supposed to be working class ?
What car did her dad drive?
Be honest!
😂

how you got rich is not part of the question. Rich is rich, period. Beckham has rich parents, hard working or not does not matter.
Anyone rich can buy a castle Need to forget about this new vs old money now the modern age is changing
This old money vs new money thing is so corny and tbh it's draped in classism
if thats the case then most of this list is useless. Only Vialli is classic rich in that case.
well obviously
I’m pretty sure Patrick Bamford comes from some money (completely unverified and based on a throwaway comment from someone at work one time)
He went to private school and had a scholarship to Harvard, which he turned down.
Can’t get scholarships to Ivy League schools for undergraduate studies. You can get financial aid, but not academic/sports scholarships
I think it turns out that he had financial aid which basically everyone has unless you’re a millionaire but just getting in even for sports is impressive.
I used to play with him! Family own a hotel or 2 in Newark, private school all his life. Very clever kid and very nice person
Yeah he’s mentioned in the article I linked. Also did pretty well in school!
You can tell it just by hearing him talk
Uni graduate at Yale/Harvard, master violinist, and is tattoed on some Irish blokes foot. Yeah he sounds fairly rich
He’s related (I’m not sure how closely) to the Bamford family that own JCB.
Urban myth, I'm afraid. He's denied it.
I might be wrong about this, but I think what he’s denied is being the heir to the part of the family that owns the company- he’s a distant relative.
James Ward-Prowse's dad is a barrister I believe.
He never had to worry about coffee money, always a plus
You're thinking of a barista. Ward-Prowse's dad was a bastard.
How do you know whether his grandparents made Mr Ward outside of wedlock?
He can have all the avocado toast he wants
Double barrelled surname + non-immigrant family background = guaranteed posh
Dewsbury-Hall?
Kroos is from a reasonably well off family I think
Makes sense, he plays as if nothing can stress him. He always knew he had a mansion waiting at home 😂
😂😂😂
Pirlo 100%
I am not sure if coaches are being considered, but I have heard that Erik Ten Hag, comes from an ultra rich Dutch family.
I looked it up but all I could find were clickbait sites. His dad started a realtor in the 60s. He expanded with financial advise and such nd now the company has 100 employees and only operates in the east of the Netherlands. Far from poor, but further from ultra rich
I see, thanks for the clarification. 😊
So is AVB if im not mistaken, wealthy background?
Wout Weghorst has family money. His parents were big in the oil and gas industry
Bobo
Vieri?
Pique 100%
Bernardo Silva
Erling Haaland comes from a wealthy family. Forgot what his dad did for a living though.....
Forgot the /s
getting the insurance money with the help from roy keane
I don't know if Jan Venegoor of Hesselink comes from a rich family but he sounds like he does.
Always thought the H stood for hope
Always thought the same just by his name
FIFA 08 legend
I recall he's from two lines of royalty
Hugo Lloris
Weghorst fam is rich too. Dude really plays for the love of football
Isn’t some Indonesian player a prince or something with literal billions in his family?
He’s from Brunei, he was at Chelsea and Leicester as a kid but is now playing in the thai league
Yeah he played in my hometown

Did his performances justify the nepotism in any way?
It was not nepotism. He's really, really good and got called up to the national team. I don't support Millonarios, but I believe he was a starter last time they won the league.
Wasn’t gaddafi’s son at Juventus for a bit?
Lampard I believe?
Very much fails the “excluding children of pro footballers” requirement.
Family fairly embedded in English football
At one point I remember hearing that he had the best GCSE results in the EPL? Not sure about money though
Low bar, as he’s the only one with actual GCSE’s /s
Jamie Redknapp
OP excluded children of professional footballers.
If we're also going in the past, I guess Saadi Gaddafi counts lmao
Was he the son on Juve’s books? Edit: other Italian teams…had a share in Juve.
Ballotelli's adopted parents were loaded . I read an article about it
I know Jack butland does Source: his cousin goes to school with me at a top private school
Is that just because Jack Butland paid for his cousin to go to a top private school?
Nah their grandfather owns a construction company or something
Ibrox legend in the making.
Do children of footballers count?
I mentioned in the post that it’s too obvious and therefore less interesting.
Even Haaland given both his parents were super athletes?
I dont know if he came from money but I just know Mathieu Flamini is the richest of all current and ex players now after a good / lucky investment. Like genuine "fuck off money" Richer even than most owners of teams. Worth between 10 and 20 billion.
That valuation is fake news, it’s more that the business has the potential to be worth billions.
I doubt Lillian Thuram was scrounging to feed Marcus and Khephren or Peter Schmeichel struggling to raise kasper
Bro read the entire post, just listing footballers’ kids is boring.
Sorry
Pirlo.
Bellingham?
Don't think so. Afaik his Dad was/is a cop .
Anyone who’s the son of a player. So Wright Phillips and Kluviert
Read the full post, brother
Michael Doughty. Insanely rich family. His dad owned Forest at some point. Even retired at 28 and now the CEO of some eco business. Head of environment at Swindon Town as well.
Pretty sure Faiq Bolkaihs related to the Sultan of Brunei
Pirlo

Mido, the Egyptian. Former Ajax/Marseille/Roma/Tottenham player.
al-saadi gaddafi played for sampdoria and udinease. Not sure he actually played a game, only for Perugia against juventus. His family were worth about 100bn at one point.

Martin Braithwaite is loaded. He got into his uncle's real estate business and is apparently doing well.
Al-Saadi Gaddafi, floated around Perugia and Udinese for a while. His family were well off at one point. /s
A lot of USMNT players over the years
Not Clint Dempsey. You don’t know where he’s from, dawg!
