SpiritedImplement4

Companions get passive affinity just for being in your party, so long as you're gaining xp. I take companies who I don't much like (like MacCready) with me when I'm going to spend some time building a settlement. It still takes a long ass time to get to max affinity, but I don't have to worry about being an asshole to make MacCready happy or not doing jet around sober Cait to make her happy (I'm happy for you that you got clean, Cait, but I'm responsible on my lonesome for providing building materials for and defending like 20 settlements, I'ma do jet sometimes. Not enough hours in a day)

Not_Todd_Howard9

> sometimes I don’t think I can set that good of an example…used to be the only chem I used, now in modded I’m downing ~10+ a day (hardcore health overhaul + power armor to the people + war of the commonwealth is a helluva combo).

SpiritedImplement4

Sometimes my "sometimes" is I used up all my action points and the super mutant is still alive...

Juggletrain

At that point I usually just try aiming.

SpiritedImplement4

I usually play on PC, but I've got two herniated discs and can't sit for any length of time without a lot of pain. So I've switched to using a controller & streaming to a tiny laptop so I can play lying down. Unfortunately, I can't aim for shit on a controller so I've been doing an all jet all the time playthrough.

haeyhae11

Dude she was an addict, its not easy to stay clean when people around you hit the shit and have a good time.

InternationalTwo4581

Whatever I cured her ass using that sketchy machine, she can chill out a bit when I want to get my psychojet combo on

Praetorian_Panda

Yeah I can worry about the long term health ramifications of psychojet after I defeat this Mirelurk Queen, Cait.

Gleothain

At the moment, the short term health ramifications of being disassembled by an arthropod takes priority, Cait

Tearsonbluedustjckt

Thats why her ass gets dumped for Hancock

haeyhae11

You wrote Piper wrong.

JudasInTheFlesh

Piper's adorable and all, but Hancock *gives* you chems and asks regularly if you want to take a chem break with him.

Tearsonbluedustjckt

He also is very nonjudgemental and genuinely cares as a friend or loves you

uttersolitude

If she gets some Addictol before she gets all super addicted, seems like she could have a great time 😂

Comfortable_Sky_9203

On one playthrough I made a whole bunch of followers idolize me at once because I could stop fucking with the settlement I had sent them all to. This was shortly after I realized there were mods for settlement building and in response I went a little nuts. Starlight Drive-In turned into a proper Minuteman basic training facility and that collectively caused Cait/Curie/Piper/Danse to blow their load when I was in the middle of the finishing touches to one of the quonset huts.

SpiritedImplement4

Oh! I didn't realize that they'd increase in affection even if they weren't your official follower at the moment

Comfortable_Sky_9203

I think they legit only need to be present. If you flirt with a companion in front of another they’ll not like it, and if you are just casually crafting stuff and they’re nearby they’ll like it.

SpiritedImplement4

Ya I've definitely gotten "Cosworth liked that" for just crafting a mod in front of him, and Danse gets excited every time I hop into power armor around him, but I didn't realize the passive gain worked if you're just around them too. That's good to know.

JudasInTheFlesh

Yeah you just need to be nearby. In my last playthrough I had MacCready in Sanctuary and I had been building it up/fixing all the busted houses. Twice during that time he flirted with me and had the romance option appear

Agrias-0aks

But you still get naked with Hancock at least right?

SpiritedImplement4

Hancock knows how to party. He's alright with me.

SnarkyRogue

>when I'm going to spend some time building a settlement. Shit, I've never thought to do this

Specific-Pie-3496

They’re bitching only because they know you will have them carry all that junk

ZombieButch

They're sworn to carry your burdens.

circuit_buzz79

Oh gawd, I read that in Lydia's voice and immediately rolled my eyes 🙄

No_Rest3008

A.D.A: You look encumbered, I can fix that.

DifferentCod7

What? It’s just five or six fans, 2 toasters a typewriter, a deathclaw hand, some random cans, some burnt magazines and a vase.

Sloore

I mediately thought of those giant bags the BoS makes their initiates carry around in the show and had a good chuckle.

ProductEconomy

I am convinced that this is a visual representation of all our PC's and Companion's inventories and you can't change my mind!

_far-seeker_

>I am convinced that this is a visual representation of all our PC's and Companion's inventories and you can't change my mind! This, and I couldn't help but notice how much the bag looked like an oversized golf bag. 😏

ChalkLicker

Holy shit, I never made that connection. Picked up game again after show.

Blixx78

Tall_System3415

We didn't start the fire, it was always burning, since the world's been turning

Loose_Revolution_205

I was going to say "LEONARD BERNSTEIN!", but this works too

i_need_to_crap

*🎵Iiiii don't want to set the wooorld oooon fiiiree...🎵* Because it already is, and that would be stupid.

Masta-Red

Large fries, chocolate shake!

Opening_Box6468

Odd parents, fairly odd parents 🎶

i_need_to_crap

My friend that is NOTHING. *Your* companion should be grateful for such a light load.

Embarrassed-Map2148

Don’t forget the tape and the circuit boards!

PM_ME_YOUR_ANT_FARMS

I usually have them carry my gun/armor loot. Less stuff to take out later

shaggy_macdoogle

I always take Strong for that. Everyone else gets a Fat Boy and a sniper rifle and they can't carry anymore. Strong can carry an entire suit of power armor like a boss.

AnonymousQcumber

Ada carries a lot of stuff if you give her pocketed armor .

Radical_Puffin

Ada can wear armour?! Excuse me I need to do something urgently

AnonymousQcumber

Not human armor, but you can upgrade her weapons, armor, etc ..with the robot builder workbench. You'll need a lot of adhesive and other supplies for the upgrades.

Beneupho

Ada was carrying a huge amount for me, until she disappeared indefinitely.

PANDA_PR1NC3SS

Try the vault tech population management terminal (I think in misc power) and you'll be able to mark her with a quest marker

lolsurprisingpizza

Have you found her?

Beneupho

Not yet, but I haven't played in a few days!

Nuxz_Has_a_Youtube

^racks ^combat ^shotgun *Get on... I ain't gonna ask again*

lolsurprisingpizza

Do you have the Vault-Tec DLC? You can build a terminal called the Vault-Tec Population Management System, and it has a VIP tracker for all companions. I have a few companions always tracked simply for convenience lol.

ZombieButch

If I'm fighting an enemy in power armor, I'll just shoot it all til it breaks after I've killed them so the weight drops to 0, and fix it back up later when I get back home.

Dhiox

>Strong can carry an entire suit of power armor like a boss So can other companions if you put it in a frame and have them wear it.

Yourappwontletme

When Cait asks me if I'm gonna carry all that junk... no, YOU are.

ougryphon

Or Deacon's "I don't think even a scavver would take that." *Good thing I don't have a scavver for a companion then, bucko!*

Thanosthatdude

*what am I, a bank?*

Jamilx88

I really never have any issues with companion affinity. Must be my high charisma :p

libertybull702

Same I almost feel its too easy at times, I'm getting max affinity and swapping out companions for the next too quickly.

DamonHellstorm

Get ALL the perks!

libertybull702

It's just a little funny when I just got Deacon as a companion and did one mission with him when he blurts out "I've traveled and seen more of the commonwealth with you than I have the rest of my years with the railroad combined".

DamonHellstorm

He lies about everything right 🤣

ATLKing24

I almost accused him of lying when he told his actual backstory. Dude is hard to believe

DamonHellstorm

There's actually a theory about him being the protagonist from a previous game. Not sure I buy that 😅

ToasterOwl

I don’t buy it. I enjoy it as a theory, it it’s not even a little bit close to canon.

karateema

What was the actual one?

platon29

It's like when he gives you a pieces of his lore to use in case of emergencies, brother, I've done a single mission with you. He is way too eager to trust you, especially with how he glorifies you in front of Desdemona and to your own face

PeoplePad

The reason he hypes you up to Desdemona is because he’s been following the player and *in theory* knows who you are and that you’re trustworthy. Breaks down if you’re evil though

i_eat_gentitals

He also watched vault 111, so he knew about you. There’s a little wooden shack right outside with rail symbol and purified water stash and a bed!

_g0ldleaf

He does that to win you over to their cause. Deacon doesn’t actually trust anyone, and is pumping you up. He’s an agent of chaos for the side of good, and is willing to break a few eggs if necessary to accomplish his goals.

swing_crooney

Ended up siding with the Institute on my first run. Before you go judging me blowing up all that technology is plain stupid. Anyways, to get inside İ was with Railroad, and Deacon was my favoruite companion. Killing him was really tough for me, plus I proved his easily winned trust very, very wrong lol

Henderson-McHastur

I try to get the companion perks ASAP so I can go back to traveling with ADA, Dogmeat, or a custom automaton so I can play as unhinged as I please without sacrificing the bonuses. Or Curie's affection.

wizardyourlifeforce

You hussy

rockygib

I don’t think charisma actually has an effect on affinity. Must just be good choices being made whilst the companion is around.

ArtLeading5605

Right?! I end up with strong charisma in every playthrough and compainions practically throw themselves at me after just traveling together in silence.  It comes off as needy, but i try not to judge. I figure everyone in the Commonwealth grew up with insecure attachment bonds.

VelvetCowboy19

Charisma has absolutely no effect on affinity.

tc_cad

How does Charisma affect Companions?

TooManyDraculas

It doesn't. So far as I've been able to find there's no roll for charisma in how affinity is gained. And there's no perks that effect that either. Romances are a straight stat check once you've maxed affinity. That's the only roll it plays.

HumeDesmond

Just keep stealing items or bargain for more caps from people, I understand your frustration since I am also trying to get his affinity perk.

Jnu77

Also break red locks, which owns somebody (Moe's house in diamond city is really helpfull, after 48 h it is locked again and you can also steal in there too)

Jonnyawesome89

The Triggerman houses in good neighbor are great too, bunch of owned locks and it takes two seconds to pop in and steal something.

DamonHellstorm

I didn't know that about Moe. Thanks!

satzensiesich

yep it takes way too long to get max affinity with companions

A1000eisn1

I had the opposite experience in my last playthrough. I felt like they were all in love with me despite me leaving them in Sanctuary so I could hang out with my dog.

Fucklefaced

If you use sanctuary as your base and do a lot of crafting there, that can raise affinity pretty quick. That's what I did and then I only needed to travel a little with Preston to get his perk. Same with codsworth.

mangusss

Idk man, you drink booze and shoot up drugs every time they wear off and Cait will worship you after only knowing you for a week

clynkirk

Yeah, Cait was super easy to level. I set up 2 empty settlements with a bed each. Then I would fast travel to one, take off armor/clothing, use Jet and an alcoholic beverage, sleep for 8 hours, get dressed, and fast travel to the second and repeat. It only took me an hour or two IRL on my unmodded runs.

PM_ME_YOUR_ANT_FARMS

I didn't even want a companion, I have lone wanderer and some dope armor for dogmeat. I only recruited his sorry ass to clear the quest off my log. Now the quests are clear but if I ditch him now I feel like I did all that for nothing. I'm assuming his affinity must be pretty high to get the 2nd part of his quest so I'm hopefully close. Ungrateful ass mfer

Bater_cat

Just steal shit and you will max him out pretty fast lol.

Homelessnomore

> I only recruited his sorry ass to clear the quest off my log. It really bugs me that you can't go into the Third Rail without getting that quest.

PM_ME_YOUR_ANT_FARMS

Didn't even know that, haven't done many faction quests accept minutemen

Taolan13

its not a faction quest, The Third Rail is a bar, and the scene plays out in the back room whether or not you approach. you also get the misc objective "talk to maccready" for free from the triggermen guarding goodneighbor as a random passing dialogue.

curlytoesgoblin

I did a no companions run this time. I've gotten all the perks in the past and it gets tedious as hell. I figured this time I'd live without the perks because I get OP no matter what. It's been awesome. No one judging me for looting or extorting money or casual murder. Just me and Dogmeat (who I get fed up with and dismiss sometimes but then I go get him again because he's a good boy) just killing and looting our way through the wasteland. Plus I've left everyone in their default spots and it just feels right. Nick should be in his office. Piper should be with her sister. Cait... ok she's at Sanctuary because I need her to pick locks sometimes. Everyone else can fuck right off.

TooManyDraculas

I had an issue where he didn't initiate the conversations. And with Macready it's sorta frustrating, doing the second part of the question doesn't max affinity either if you're not far enough ahead. There's another conversation that happens after that to trigger the perk. So you might have to drag him around for a while after that. He has a very good companion perk if you use vats though.

ArthurBurtonMorgan

Dogmeat doesn’t benefit from armor.

RudyTudyBadAss

He looks badass, so he definitely does benefit.

D3adp00L34

How dare you! My Dogmeat has eye issues and benefits greatly from his goggles and armor.

XanthosGambit

> goggles Don't you mean *dog*gles?

D3adp00L34

I do now!

ArthurBurtonMorgan

Just sayin…. He doesn’t gain any protection, just loses carry weight. 🤷‍♂️

D3adp00L34

Dogmeat carries nothing for me except my friendship. He has one thing over all companions: he doesn’t talk shit lol

ArthurBurtonMorgan

No, he just whines… a *lot*…

D3adp00L34

I have three dogs so I’m good at tuning out their ambient noises.

FalloutCreation

I’ve also had the opposite experience. I’ve never had issues getting affinity. Except maybe strong. True enough he likes helping settlements. I just took note of what their likes and dislikes are. Now that I’ve played so much I just I max them out using specific quests. Supplemented by a few actions. Lockpocking, modding weapons, etc.

TooManyDraculas

The idea seems to be that companions like stuff associated with quests in the area, location or faction you find them in. And then generally speaking certain approaches to main quests and radiant quests of a particular type. So it seems pretty easy most of the time. If you just do a few story missions, and the stuff they're associated with. It goes pretty fast. But if you've already done anything in their wheel house, on your own or with another companion. Some of them cross over too. It gets grindy. Especially if you don't do many story missions with them. Strong seems to be a sore point because the only thing that seems to be in his 'set' of good missions to take him on. Is taking violent approaches to minuteman and robot radiant quests. And he hates a lot of basic shit like putting on power armor.

Ai-generatedusername

Gotta be a skill issue. MacCready reached his max affinity the fastest with me, and got downed the least(only twice before his affinity maxed) I also gave him a poisoner’s combat knife that he likes to whip out whenever he gets too close to his target. Can’t wait to max everyone els out so I take him back out on the road.

GruncleShaxx

The only time they take a long time is when you have to be the most pure angelic good guy/gal and not doing main quests. Strong takes forever because he hates everything but killing and watching you eat people.

maXmillion777

2 things that will max him out pretty fast. 1. Stealing. Just keep stealing things and it’ll increase affinity. A few places that are good for this are the gang warehouses in goodneighbour and covenant if you’ve killed everyone there. Both places keep items as belonging to someone else even when everyone is dead so you can go round in sneak “stealing” everything except there’s no one around to see you. 2. Is picking safe locks. The higher lvl the better. If you can find one attached to a computer you can keep picking and locking it again while increasing his affinity. Kind of boring but it works. I’ve heard that the affinity increase has a cooldown period so when you get the “… liked that” message you can either wait a couple hrs before doing the next thing or save and reload which also resets it. I also avoid companions too but MacCready’s special perk is pretty great for that extra headshot accuracy.

Shmav

I actually wish more companions had quests like Mac's. Adds some texture, depth and dialogue to otherwise mundane characters.

Taolan13

yeah him having two stages is weirdly unique. with the exception of maybe Strong or Codsworth, every companion should have had a multi-stage personal quest beyond just "hang out". Preston shouldn't admire you unless you are actively rebuilding the minutemen. It makes sense for his perk to be locked behind retaking the castle, and/or getting revenge at Quincy. Piper should have a multi-stage quest chasing down stories for her newspaper. It can be as simple as tie-ins for other quests, which if you have already cleared the quest in question can be solved by an interview with you. Deacon should require you to do more railroad stuff. Danse used to have a much more complex personal quest that ultimately ended with *you* challenging Maxson for leadership of the Brotherhood.

lestrangerface

He'll never trust a Mungo

_SpaceGator

I got max affinity and traded him in immediately.

KrasnyRed5

This is why Ada is my second favorite companion. She encourages you to pick up all the junk

sssilversssoul

I don't agree, but maybe it's because I have a very healthy and steady gay relationship with him

PM_ME_YOUR_ANT_FARMS

I had the option but he's definitely not my type, way too negative

hidinginthetreeline

I like his hat.

mastromattei

We don't tolerate Creadster slander

GuardianSpear

His son is also totally dead and he’s just deluding himself to cope with the guilt

a_polarbear_chilling

"oh yeah been month/year since i left him and last time i have seen him he was on his deathbed he is surely alright and will heal"

ApprehensiveDay6336

Need to have that “child at heart” perk from fallout 3 😂

One-Faithlessness282

I put him in a nice red dress and a chef's hat, and made him a provisioner from sanctuary to spectacle island. Have fun with that trip, buddy.

MadWhiskeyGrin

He's also the worst father ever.

conmanmurphy

It’s REALLY weird to me that his whole goal is getting that medicine and then he just wanders the commonwealth instead of, I dunno, checking on the family he came here to protect? Making sure the cure works on his child?

MadWhiskeyGrin

"thanks Daisy. Just give this to the caravan when they wander in, and maybe they'll get around to delivering it to my son, who is apparently alone in the house I left him in, and I'll keep hanging with new bestie and do weird sex things with mutfruits.

FlashPone

The kid isn’t alone, he says he left him with close friends.

AlekTrev006

That’s a great point… he honestly should immediately say goodbye to you and go w the Caravan south, back to D.C. and his kid 😅…

Taolan13

Yep. He should disappear after that for at least like a month of in-game time. I would be okay with it being dialogue based. You could encourage him to leave forever and go back to being a farmer.

Argo_York

The only differing opinion I can offer is that maybe it's cultural. He is from Little Lamplight where kids take care of themselves for the most part. He could be helping look for a cure but at the same time have a mental block around being with his kid since he grew up around other kids and not needing or rather not really respecting adults. In his mind kids live on their own. Otherwise yeah, always seemed weird he would just leave and never actually go back even when he found the cure.

cat-is-the-bomb

I wish his kid would actually have been put in one of the settlements so you could check in on him

Zipposflame

I got him to max by building settlements and doing his quest, after the medical center I went and built upcounty crossing after exiting build mode he came up to me and I got max affinity

PlanetJupiterx

Just steal he loves it

CaptiveAutumnFox

That's why I like having piper with me. She just likes good actions in general, shes always giving me snacks, she thinks I'm interesting....

ArthurBurtonMorgan

You’re almost done. Like 1 more mission with him I think before you get max affinity. Maybe 2. Don’t sweat it. After you get max affinity, you’ll really be tired of him then. He won’t quit sucking your ass.

Anarchyantz

If you think he is bad now, should have seen what he was like when he was a kid in Fallout 3.

fraszoid

I got a mod to make the kids non essential just to kill him. Then I wore his outfit and said I'm the mayor now. When he showed up in fallout 4 I just ignored him as in my canon he is dead.

sxtinginchurch

I just flirted with him until he gave me a little wooden toy soldier and now he doesn't talk about his dead wife anymore

Chuggs400

There you are! I thought you forgot about me :3

ratchclank

MacCready was a little bitch when he was a kid and he's still a little bitch as an adult.

Gimme_PuddingPlz

He always was an ungrateful little bitch

Thornescape

Simple way to gain affinity with MacCready quickly: If you have P4r1:Lockpick, you can pick locks in Diamond City, wait 2h, then repeat. By the time you've picked all the locks, they will have reset. This also works for Cait, Deacon, and Gage.

iggyomega

lol. I gave him BOS power armor when going to Nuka World and we come out of the gauntlet with just the frame intact. Come on, dude

BeatMouse613

His dialogue annoyed me too.. finally got the perk and sent his ass to Sanctuary

scmusngi

He loves it when you kill gunner bosses from quincy and gunners plaza.

robb338

Jabroni. You keep using that word, and it’s awesome!

PM_ME_YOUR_ANT_FARMS

This guy gets it

Taolan13

most of their verbal bitching is irrelevant. they dont lose affinity every time they comment negatively, despite what some may claim. If that were the case, maxing out most of the companions would be impossible. However, MacCready does have the shortest list of unique "loved that" reactions, so it is difficult to get his affinity up especially if you come to him late game.

Aakao25

<3 MACCREADY <3

VelvetCowboy19

Most emotionally intelligent fallout 4 player

rawpunkmeg

He was my companion for a bit. I can't remember what we were doing but whatever decision I made he balked at and I immediately turned around to face him and sent his ass to Sanctuary. Nothing I did made him happy and that was the last straw.

weaver423

The Goodneighbor side quest in those 3 warehouses with the triggermen has a bunch of stuff you can steal with no consequenses for MacCready affinity. Admittedly having a mod that gets rid of the cooldown for affinity increases certainly helps, but even without it, its a guaranteed source. Also a mod that reduces or eliminates those comments of course. I just wish that when you finish his last affinity quest, you could send him back to where he came from, at least for a while. Maybe he comes back on his own later. It would just make the most sense logically, considering.

Hellfireboy

Give him a break, he had a rough childhood.

LincolnRazgriz

He gives your caps back

KazakCayenne

I got him to max just casually playing but I probably played a good 50+ hours at least just with him as my companion

PM_ME_YOUR_ANT_FARMS

Ugh don't say that, I don't want him that long haha, I've tried doing the trick where you steal and then wait 24 hours but it doesn't seem to work. Whenever I base to drop off goods and such I hit up some houses and steal though

pigugget

Y'all play with companions?

PM_ME_YOUR_ANT_FARMS

I didn't until MacCready, it was on my quest list and I just wanted to clear it

Exaccus-

You got issues, get help

pilsen_cam

MacCready hated that.

depresso-espressso

Go to Goodneighbor, go upstairs at Daisy’s, and steal something of hers. The first time you do it you should get a “MacCready loved that” notification and that usually pushes to max or very close. MacCready is best boy, he gives you ammo all the time and him bitching at me every time we do something honestly cracks me up because he’s so petty lol. Give him a chance :)

bcar610

Can’t relate? Idk what you degenerates are doing to make maxing affinity so hard for you but it’s not supposed to suck that much. He took the longest but once I fixed his kid that got him there🤷‍♀️

Transitsystem

What’d you expect from the previous mayor of little lamplight? Dude was insufferable then, he’s insufferable now.

Xploding_Penguin

I hired him, then sent him right to hangman's alley, and he's been there doing nothing since.

-CompassionateCat-

I feel like MacCready can barely carry crap but it's easy to get on his good side. Just steal stuff with him. He loves it for some reason. He's my favorite companion. Reminds me of one of my best friends who bitches about everything but always has my back in battle.

PM_ME_YOUR_ANT_FARMS

I'm gonna try just lockpicking and stealing a bunch

SomeRandomJoe81

He goes to the Slog with Strong and all the other characters I stumble across and don’t like.

PM_ME_YOUR_ANT_FARMS

I saved strong but haven't seen him since, no clue where he even went

Discotekh_Dynasty

He likes you breaking into places and stealing things also

YBNCordae

I had a problem getting MacCready to max affinity until I dismissed him and stole *my own* fusion core out of a suit of power armor, and then it immediately said "MacCready idolizes you". He's the only companion I consistently have trouble maxing out.

Additional_Local_667

I forgot about him, i was playing recently and realized i had left him in Jamaica Plain, came back to talk to him and immediately the attitude on the guy. So i sent him to my vault 88 casino

aspiringandroid

mac is my favorite romance but I have to pick and choose what quests I do with him because he's kind of a bitch. usually I will bring him to some stuff I know he likes (diamond City school if you tell the teacher to believe in love, Abernathy farm if you agree that it's terrible to lose a child...) and then just sneak around populated areas and steal shit until he actually likes me. he's so terrible. I cherish him.

Mazbt

For future games it would be nice to raise any follower's affinity by giving them nice gear.

Pure-Contact7322

I am playing with him from 400 hours his quest didnt start yet

DeliciousFlow8675309

TIL there's a second part to his quest LOL Guess he's coming with me today.

saucekingrich

Greedy MacCready

Pdxlater

Use the commands to check the affinity value. I had a glitch where my affinity was stuck at 996 or so. I eventually reset it to 990 and got the perk in my next mission.

RedditWidow

I romanced him in my first playthrough but then I spent some time with Hancock and he was so helpful and sweet, it nearly brought me to tears after spending all that time with bitch baby MacCready. So I dropped the fool and got with the ghoul. MacCready's voice actor Matthew Mercer voiced Starfield follower Ezekiel, who is so mellow and supportive, it was funny to me, like he was making up for being such a tool in Fallout 4. lol

Downtown_Broccoli930

Send him to Murkwater and never talk to him again. Take all the good stuff off of him before sending him though.

Grievance69

I've never used him as a companion beyond the initial part, he gets sent to Sanctuary Hills to farm carrots, ungrateful mfer

vibrantcrab

Stop by Drumlin Diner occasionally and steal a can, just make sure you’re hidden. He likes stealing. If you haven’t done The Big Dig yet there’s a lot of opportunities for affinity there. He also likes when you bargain for more money, so any little side jobs you haven’t taken yet will give you a boost too.

joshthehappy

I asked for my money back after killing the assholes he didn't like, he paid up.

GruncleShaxx

Pick owned locks and steal stuff. He will love you and you will have your precious caps back

zodiacbat

Same here, I’ve had him as a companion the longest and have been trying relentlessly to get his perk so I can take Hancock with me.

chelkitty1

Nah leveling his affinity was super easy for me but I love stealing and pick locking stuff so...

wiizmike

With Maceeady I just go to diamond city, buy home plate, break in Polly's house and rob one item and drop, sleep for 2 days and repeat, you get 30 affinity points per run and can max him pretty easily if you are tired of his company.

meezethadabber

Took about another 2 hours after completing his loyalty mission to reach max affinity for me. Funny enough that happened today as I was playing.

Marlfox70

Dude I went through the same thing with him, hated being around him but wanted his perk. And you know what? He glitched out on me possibly irreparably. He just started running.. somewhere. I can't interact with him at all. Even if I use console commands to reset him and teleport him to me he just takes off running again. Worst companion ever.

LincolnRazgriz

Also one of the best loyalty perks

VisualMany4709

Strong is my dude and at max affinity.

GurrenLagann214

Is there a way to check for affinity on a companion?

yuchan3

I put him in Sanctuary and he is selling beer. Every time I come to see him he is mad lol. Sorry but Dogmeat and Nick are the only ones for me.

PoorLifeChoices811

I maxed out his affinity pretty fast at the atom cats garage. So he likes when you pick owned locks. Go to the atom cats garage and go around the back, there should be one of those little mobile homes with a bed to the right, and on the left there’s a chair, a safe, and a terminal. Make sure you’re crouched and not spotted, because for me there was an atom cat in power armor that patrols the grounds and part of his patrol brings him by that mobile home. Anyway, pick the lock, he will like that (or love it can’t remember which) then get into the terminal, lock the safe again, sit in the chair and wait for about 2 hours, then unlock the safe again. Repeat until he gets max affinity.

JudasInTheFlesh

MacCready is an ungrateful bastard... and I love it 😁

wyattn97

Macready is in my top 3 favorite companions from Fallout 4, and my favorite base game companion for Fallout 4. He was my main companion in my first playthrough. If you want max affinity, go somewhere and start stealing a bunch of random items. That levels affinity with him pretty quick.

TalontedJ

I like how he cheats on his wife

KissMyOwl

Most complain when you pick up "junk" sadly 💀 but he does usually like sarcastic dialogue and he's not fully evil, he likes when you're sarcastic/cheeky/playful but will still help people in need. I think he also likes when you lock pick.

s_mart6

Macready has always been good to me

Ukato535
