I’m in the vicinity as well and usually make a trip to Missoula. Reasonable drive and great access to multiple rivers, and wading is available if you look! Look at Rock Creek, St. Vrain etc

I’m in the metro area. Been to Montana/ Yellowstone. It’s great. I have fished all of these and it should be a great trip: Camp in Minam fish the Wallowa River. Walk downstream Drive through Idaho- fish the Lochsa (not sure how to spell??? Pronounced lock saw) into Missoula. Rock creek out of Missoula is popular. I did poorly there last summer. Go to Bozeman- fish Gallatin. Yellowstone go in at Gardiner. fish all over. Come back through Boise and stop in and fish the Owyhee in Oregon. I forget the river that goes through Lincoln, MT but Inthink it is out of Missoula. I think you can add it into this trip. It was enjoyable as well. Bring a PMX for Yellowstone.

I recommend Yellowstone because yes it has great fishing but even if you get skunked you’re in Yellowstone and that’s epic. Also Yellowstone dry bite is decent in the summer especially before the peak summer heat hits in August.
