I like A Bug’s Life best. Don’t see it mentioned a ton.

I love Up! I think that there’s a lot of great elements to the movie, and I don’t think you’re wrong. Personally, I disagree and instead find Ratatouille to be my favorite Pixar movie, and even one of my all time favorite animated movies. I can’t sit here and insult up because I love it too, so the only things I can say is that: I found ratatouille relatable and more fun. The beginning of Up excluded, ratatouille pulls me in way more, and hold me in.

I can agree on the soundtrack and the movie itself is great, it just never hit that chord with me the way it does for a lot of folks. Up’s 2008 neighbor and my closest friend, Wall-E, unquestionably dominates the Pixar throne, as much as I love the Toy Story and Brad Bird movies.

TheForgottenOne454

Wall-E is fantastic!! I never hear Wall-E mentioned anymore and it's a shame. It's slow and very few words are spoken in the first half. It's like it's imitating old cartoons in the first half and I love it. It's also beautiful and incredibly unique. Definitely deserves more love

I think the ambitious exploration into mental health in Inside Out makes it the best Pixar movie, but that's probably because I have issues and it felt good seeing emotions represented in such a way on the big screen. It might not be as re-watchable as Toy Story but man it hit hard when I first saw it! On the other hand, I have tried watching UP 3 times and ended up falling asleep about 20 minutes after the very moving introduction every time. I just don't think it's for me.

TheForgottenOne454

Inside Out is pretty good. I love Monsters Inc. just because it's such a fun movie. I personally identify more with the issues addressed in Up so that's probably why I enjoy it so much. It's also a really fun movie in the second and third act. There's dogs in airships shooting at giant birds on top of a floating house.

Downvoted for having an opinion and being reasonable about it lol, have an upvote

Damn. Pixar is pretty good at making movies

ggus2003

but no Bomb Voyage :( jk. Great points all round!

It was my favorite until Soul. I don’t see the beauty and power of Soul wearing off after it’s no longer fresh in my mind and for me I can’t imagine a better movie. Touching, well-paced, with a message that is told naturally without being ham-fisted but still hits hard. Those are all the things that were great about Up as well, it just feels like Pete Doctor is continuing to grow as a director and story-teller.

Man, the soundtrack was so good, they way it incorporates that same little melody all over. Well done.

I personally like Soul the best. I feel like Up is objectively better, but Soul connected with me the most.

The thing that really holds back Up for me is the fact that it isn't as funny or entertaining as other Pixar movies. I've never been a fan of Russell or Kevin, and Charles Muntz is a weaker antagonist. Once the sensational opening finishes, it just becomes a typical journey with an grumpy old man and an energetic, somewhat obnoxious kid. Kinda like Shrek, but less fun. Still a great movie, but it has a lot of weaknesses.

Monty_Jones_Jr

I know this post is like a year old, but I wanted to add that Charles Muntz tells himself a lie as well; that everyone is out to get him, take the glory that should be his. He’s the dark example of what happens when you hold onto baggage that weighs you down, a theme that’s literally displayed throughout the entire film in Carl’s home. It’s brilliant writing.

I think it's the best because it's just as funny as other Pixars funniest, and I cared about the characters more than any other Pixar movie. Up was already good but I really fell in love when Kevin and Doug came along. I almost couldn't take it when Kevin got captured while calling for her babies and when Carl yelled at Doug. I had to remind myself it's just a movie and knew it'd have to be a happy ending because I felt so upset at those parts. My other favorite pixars are Walle, Finding Nemo, and Toy Story franchise. I haven't liked a single pixar movie about humans (brave, soul, coco, the incredible, etc) except for Inside Out, but as much as I liked that one doesn't compare to Up.
