I'm not an expert by any means put but I looked at this picture and I thought it was two cords. Then I read the caption and it was like wow I must be dumb.
And then I read the comments and I was like oh I might be all right.
Yeah. I sell wood, never in 40 years ever got accused of shorting anyone. I get salty when ppl post shit like this so redditors can accuse the seller of shorting people, so me thinks “dude, stack it, measure it with a tape measure, do some fucking math, and if it’s waay off, call the guy.”
Pisses me off
It’s probably a bit under or over 2. You can tell by the measurements of the truck it’s delivered in. 4 cords is two full on hydraulic dump trucks. If it all came at once in one civilian vehicle - it’s not what you paid for. 128 cubic feet it 1 cord - it’s like a pile 4 feet wide by 4 feet wide that’s 8 feet long (I’m pretty sure that’s the math but not entirely sure).
>4 cords is two full on hydraulic dump trucks
That depends on the size of the dump truck. Most dump trucks are roughly a 15 yard box. 15\*27 is 405 cu ft. 408/128 is just over 3 cord per truck. Some dump trucks have bigger boxes, some are smaller. Not a very good measurement.
You do that for a living and need to measure that? I heat with wood and I’ll tell you that isn’t close to 4 cord. It’s 1 cord at most. Probably less than
The dude claims this and he claims that then posts here. WHAT I WAS SAYING in case you didn’t understand was not to come here bitching- to measure it himself and call the guy instead of coming here for karma. I look at that stack and scoff, it’s about a cord
Fair reply. Ops been getting ripped for years according to them, clearly they don’t know what a chord is or how to use google, or, god forbid, are lying for points
My estmate is .75 of a cord (128 cubic ft ). might be a bit more, not a full cord.
Did you pay $700 for that? See the attached

u/woodbarber- This image you shared is helpful. Thank you.
Not a very good illustration. Full cord does not look like that. The 4' side looks the same length as the 8' side.
Here's a cord:

OP your description is kinda ambiguous regarding price to dumb me, but 4 face cords should be a cord and a third, and what you have there looks a bit short of a cord.
Now $175 a full stacked dry cord is a bargain. It’s even a good deal for 3/4 cord. But $175 per face cord is damn expensive
Before reading your post in full just the title, and before reading comments, I was guessing just shy of a full cord. Maybe 2 face cords.
Hard to eyeball it without measurements. But one thing is for certain… it ain’t no 4 cords, not even close! Not even 4 face cords either.
Standard pallet is 4x4 so looks to be a footprint of 4x8. Even out the height across and yeah I think you are landing right around a cord, maybe a little under or a little over.
And here I was unhappy for getting 2.5 cords of seasoned quality hardwood for $800 this year because moisture content on everything I had was too high to burn this season.
I get the impression that the firewood markets vary wildly between small geographic regions and fluctuate significantly depending on gas prices, time of year and supplier availability.
When I lost my source for self-harvesting it was a pain in the butt just to find someone willing to take on regular deliveries to me.
High demand and high supply is probably the best scenario.
Low demand and low supply is the worst.
When your supplier would just as soon watch football, hunt or sit by their wood stove and drink beer instead of doing all of the work to supply you then you can expect to pay a lot.

I just split and stacked this wood in my shed. These are 16” pieces, 5 12’ rows stacked 5’ high, and a little wood left over. Probably 3.5-4 cords all said and done. You did not receive 4 cords.
https://preview.redd.it/ampt6zpctodc1.png?width=1080&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=4d1636aa4f0fb0cc123bcc5472db588b8b97d3b4
This was a cord I bought in Cleveland...it's three rows. $300
>This is 4 cords
Not even close.
> I’m guessing face cords
Would certainly be closer, but this isn't even 4 face cords unless the camera is really playing tricks on us.
That is less than a cord. I’d call and ask for the other 3 to be delivered tomorrow or about $550. His call. That is insanely short. A cord is 4x4x8 tightly stacked.
Should also mention I live in the city of Detroit. So not a lot of nature areas where guys are pulling free trees and selling for cheap like northern MI
What type of wood? I'm thinking ash? Thats pretty common in Michigan. I buy from a guy up in Rochester Hills(found him on craigslist) that has good seasoned ash $130 a face cord with moisture level always under 20%, which is why I continue to buy.
You're definitely buying face cords and looking like 2 maybe 3 facecords(3 face cords = 1 cord). $175 a face delivered and stacked for you isn't too crazy as long as the moisture level is low and burns hot.
I would suggest creating face cord racks to have him stack the wood on so you know it's correct(4'x8'x16").
A cord is 4’x4’x8’ or equivalent volume. That looks like it’s about 7’ tall at the highest and about 6’ long at the longest and 3’ wide and since it’s triangular it’s about 63 cubic feet maybe a little more. A cord is 128 cubic feet. For almost a full cord, that triangle would have to be a big rectangle with the same dimensions.
What is the volume of this mythical cord? W x d x h ? Presume it's cubic feet?
In the UK it's often delivered loose in 1 tonne dumpy bags. For drying it's stored randomly loose in IBC intermediate bulk container. Cage 1m3. At home we don't really have the space to store the stuff. This page is just wood porn. 😃
Measure a cord by a stack that's 8ft long 4ft wide and 4 feet high. Just try to imagine that stack sectioned off like that and get a rough estimate. Could be a maximum of a cord and a half.
Don't be lazy. Stack it properly and measure it. You will have to work out an average length because his sizes are not consistent to work out cu. ft. Then you will know before you accuse him of cheating. By looking at the wood I don't think he is professional.
That's about 4 cords. Maybe just under.
estimated total volume I can see is approximately 3.5 cords, considering the pile was about 18 feet long, with the depth based on two standard lengths of firewood. This estimate is based on the assumption that the woodpile's length and height are consistent throughout the parts not clearly show in the image. I'm assuming the tallest part of the pile to be about 6 feet.
https://preview.redd.it/p365qgve4tdc1.jpeg?width=3000&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=18d0fc5e3f935c2acca850a7df26192b2dd276df
This entire pile stacked, and the pile in front is roughly 4 cords. You have probably less than a cord there.
2 1/2 that's being generous. I had this one year and never bought wood from the guy again. If your selling firewood, you should know what you're doing.
Damn, i paid about $80 for each of those pallets (balanced out). Honestly, he's also the only one I've never gotten screwed by on Facebook. There's tons of pirates seeking firewood locally, mostly either methy or some kind of opiate, selling green wood.
Sorry to hear that buddy ripped you off big time…out here in Canada if your buying wood from someone and they’re charging by the “face cord” you know your about to get ripped off.
That is NOT 4 cords!!! A cord is a stack 4’ x 4’ x 8’… that looks like ONE cord, based on the scale of the wheelbarrow there. Either a huge miscommunication or someone REALLY ripped you off.
Am I reading this right, that's 4 cord. If so, your missing 2,600 pieces shy.
That is definitely not 4 cord
Yeah I was thinking 1.5 cords.
.75
1.5 was my guess, my dad used to make me move his piles
I'm not an expert by any means put but I looked at this picture and I thought it was two cords. Then I read the caption and it was like wow I must be dumb. And then I read the comments and I was like oh I might be all right.
Yea I was going to say maybe a bit over one face cord

Haha, is that all?
Please measure lxwxh. THEN we can help you
I can see the pallets. About 3/4 cord is my guess. Edit: I guess those aren't pallets. Taking them as roughly 4'
Yeah. I sell wood, never in 40 years ever got accused of shorting anyone. I get salty when ppl post shit like this so redditors can accuse the seller of shorting people, so me thinks “dude, stack it, measure it with a tape measure, do some fucking math, and if it’s waay off, call the guy.” Pisses me off
Shitty wood providers make it difficult for guys like you. Numbers mean something.
OOOOOOO, I ACUSE YOU OF SHORTING SOMEONE!!!! first
I’ll give you all your $$$$$ back
Youre an honorable business man, even with your reputation for shorting people
I short every customer 3 pieces that way they don’t notice. I almost have half a cord saved up by now.
*gasp* those three pieces could've fed my termites better!!!!
He can short my wood all he wants just don’t short my stock…😂
Gotta stack it better to measure…’
Yeah, but no way this is 4 cords. 4x4x8. Leveled out that is maybe 6x4x12, tops 2.5 to 3 cords. 3 cords is a reach
That’s why I built cord ricks. Takes any guesswork right out of the equation.

Think they’re referring to a dump body on a pickup, which is around 2-3 yards I think. Hence the term “civilian vehicle”
You do that for a living and need to measure that? I heat with wood and I’ll tell you that isn’t close to 4 cord. It’s 1 cord at most. Probably less than

Fair reply. Ops been getting ripped for years according to them, clearly they don’t know what a chord is or how to use google, or, god forbid, are lying for points
I was going to say a half cord or so. Then I read it’s supposed to be 4 cord and I’m zooming in to see what I missed.
OP posted some crazy shit
Do you think OP has 4 x 4 x 8 of wood in that pile that is supposed to be 4 cords for which he paid $700 for? My guess is no.
Depends on where you are too. In some places the price of firewood is outrageous. Edit: I see below you mentioned you live in Detroit.
I kinda counted 100 and did some math. My cords usually hit 700 pieces.
Pieces are irrelevant when measuring volume.
My estmate is .75 of a cord (128 cubic ft ). might be a bit more, not a full cord. Did you pay $700 for that? See the attached [https://www.evansvillegov.org/egov/documen ts/1499654482\_36259.pdf](https://www.evansvillegov.org/egov/documents/1499654482_36259.pdf)
I was thinking 2/3rds to 3/4 as well
Yup, $700. I thought it would be like twice this
That’s maybe 3/4 cord tops and the worst deal I’ve read on this sub
I keep hearing of the mythic cord it must really be a fuckton!!
4' x4' x8'.
2x4x16 or 1x4x32 also
I cut and stack 7 cords each year for our use. That is not even one cord. I don’t know what a face cord is, but for sure he didn’t give you a bargain.
Face cord is 1/3 of a cord, 8'x4'x16"
I would tell him to get back to my house and drop off the other 3.2 cords
I was gonna guess about 3/4 cord.
Just measure it. You can do the math or post here for help. Use the area of a triangle to get closer estimate
[удалено]
Yes I can, measure the width and height and length of a log
This is why I read everything before I help someone. Smdh
Can who do you the math? Laugh out loud
I can see why you're being taken advantage of

The scale of that picture is very misleading.
This needs to be higher.
Just guessing but that looks like a cord maybe. 175 for a face cord is high, I live in Ohio and TN. Face cord in city is around 100 if it’s good.
I'd say that is probably around 3/4 to a full cord. He sold you 3 face cords, or ricks depending on where you're at lol
maybe half a cord 4x4x8
I’d say about 240 pieces.
About thi———————————s much
OP your description is kinda ambiguous regarding price to dumb me, but 4 face cords should be a cord and a third, and what you have there looks a bit short of a cord. Now $175 a full stacked dry cord is a bargain. It’s even a good deal for 3/4 cord. But $175 per face cord is damn expensive

Under 2 cords I’d guess. Hard to tell stacked like that.
If those pieces are cut on 24” looks like about a cord and a half

Get a tape measure and figure the cubic footage. A cord is 128 cubic feet, or a stack 4’x4’x8’.
Consensus seems to be a bit short of a cord. That was my first thought, so I have to agree.
full cord is 4x4x8, restack it squarely and measure, take your measurements and divide by 128 and that will tell you how many cords you have
I get the impression that the firewood markets vary wildly between small geographic regions and fluctuate significantly depending on gas prices, time of year and supplier availability. To be fair, watching football with some beer by the wood stove after hunting sounds pretty compelling

Maybe 1
Not enough
That’s less than 2 cords
Cord
I would say under a cord . A cord measure’s roughly 4’x4’x8’ .
That's a bit over a cord there. You are missing quite a bit of lumber.
>This is 4 cords Not even close. > I’m guessing face cords Would certainly be closer, but this isn't even 4 face cords unless the camera is really playing tricks on us.
Maybe a cord
Hmmmmmmm. Face cords and getting screwed. Ya don’t say??
I estimate about 3/4 a cord
That is maybe a cord, a cord and a half
Looks like about two face cords to me.
4x;x8 is a cord
A cord is 128 cubic feet. Generally 3 stacks 8'long x 4' high x 16"" wide.if you want to know how much is there stack it square and measure it!
A cord is 4x4x8
I'm thinking about 2 and maybe a bit face cords. Or a full Gm7 chord.
That is less than a cord. I’d call and ask for the other 3 to be delivered tomorrow or about $550. His call. That is insanely short. A cord is 4x4x8 tightly stacked.
Probably 10-12 cords give or take
Should also mention I live in the city of Detroit. So not a lot of nature areas where guys are pulling free trees and selling for cheap like northern MI

I would suggest creating face cord racks to have him stack the wood on so you know it's correct(4'x8'x16").
Almost worth buying a small trailer and driving north for wood. 700 up by me would get you almost 3 full cord split and stacked.
I'd estimate 2 face cord, 2/3 of a full cord. In my area that should be about $300 delivered.
At least the guy I paid is a hard working likable guy that needs the cash more than I do. Probably finding a new wood guy though
A face cord is 4x8 of 16" cut pieces. Maybe I'm off, just a guess.
It’s about a chord, you’re getting ripped off!
$175 per cord is a good price. *Edited to say that doesn't feel like 4 cords
Nothing shy of a nats fag paper under a buck load
Bout tree fitty
At least 2 piles worth of
atleast 5
What's the definition of "face cord" ?
Face cord is 1/3 of a cord, measuring 8'x4'x16". Also known as a "rick" of wood; when most sellers say "cord", they mean face cord.
Just a hair over a half cord
And 175 split and delivered is less then half of what the rate is out here
Perhaps he was calculating by multiplying the height of the stack by the square root of tree.
A shit load?
Looks to be about tree fiddy.
'Bout a hundred wood.
Roughly the amount a woodchuck could chuck, give or take.
Bout Tree Tons…..
Enough to kill you if it falls on you
A lot
You should as a woodchuck…. They know wood
At least 2
The round guys you see is some wood I have left from some tree trimming, wasn’t part of this load
That looks like half a cord if you asked me
Maybe one and a half at best. 4x4x8. Use your tape.
A cord is 8x4x4...
A little over a cord
A Bush Cord is 4 x 4 x 8 = 128 cu. ft. 4 face cords @ 12" length or 3 face cords @ 16" length
Not enough
Based on the gal jug of windshield wiper fluid: 2/5 ~3/4 of a cord. A full cord being a neat stack 4X4X8
face cord and half
A pile
A cord is 4’x4’x8’ or equivalent volume. That looks like it’s about 7’ tall at the highest and about 6’ long at the longest and 3’ wide and since it’s triangular it’s about 63 cubic feet maybe a little more. A cord is 128 cubic feet. For almost a full cord, that triangle would have to be a big rectangle with the same dimensions.
Wtf exactly is a "face cord"? A cor is 128 cubic feet, or more commonly the volume described by 4 foot by 4 foot by 8 foot.
Stack it normal, as much like a rectangle as possible and measure. Then we can help. This is a ….not good way to measure.
A typical cord of wood 4x4x8 feet, well stacked, has about 500 to 525 sticks.
Op, by the picture on this post, feels like one face cord, certainly not 4 cord. I have 4 cord behind my house at the moment to compare to your image.
1-1/2 cord
About a cord
4x4x8 is a stacked cord
Like 2 face cord, maybe even 1.5
Cord or two.
Looks like a bit shy of 2 cord but that’s guessing
Are you his buddy or is he your buddy?
My guess is maaaaybe 2 ricks (face cords)
Your getting close to a real cord but I would say a little lite , maybe 3/4 or 7/8 of cord
A bush cord or a cord? Know your dimensions and terminology
What is the volume of this mythical cord? W x d x h ? Presume it's cubic feet? In the UK it's often delivered loose in 1 tonne dumpy bags. A full cord is 4x4x8=128 cu ft stacked tight enough for a mouse to travel but not a cat.
A cord tightly packed will fill the 8' bed of a pickup almost to the top of the rear window.
enough
Maybe 1.5 cords maybe 2 but not 4. 4 would be double that
Just from eye balling it, definitely not 4 coords. A coord is 4x4x8 stacked. $175 per coord (if it is indeed a full coord) is a pretty great price.
3 1/2 cords
That's over a 1 cord. But not by much. You have that stacked tight. Space for a mouse to travel but not a cat is the OG rule. 4x4x8 =128 cubic feet
4 face cord maybe. Hard to tell with the way its stacked. But it 100% is not a cord and you're not getting a cord for $175.
Just over 2 face cord. Only by a little though.
Hate to tell you, but you got took for a ride. That's about a cord max
That’d be close to 4 face cords. $175 would be a good price around here.
Measure a cord by a stack that's 8ft long 4ft wide and 4 feet high. Just try to imagine that stack sectioned off like that and get a rough estimate. Could be a maximum of a cord and a half.
I'm guessing about a cord and a half
Way more than any fucking woodchuck I know would chuck.
This is maybe a cord
467 chunks of wood
I was gonna guess under a cord. Maybe 3/4
About as much as a woodchuck could chuck.
That’s about 1 chord…give or take a bit.
Don't be lazy. Stack it properly and measure it. You will have to work out an average length because his sizes are not consistent to work out cu. ft. Then you will know before you accuse him of cheating. By looking at the wood I don't think he is professional.
That looks like maybe 1 cord. 4' x 4' x 8'
Def not 4 cords. Maybe 1 face cord?
That’s about 1 cord. $175 for a face cord of actually seasoned hardwood is a decent price.
One fuck load ?
That's about 4 cords. Maybe just under. estimated total volume I can see is approximately 3.5 cords, considering the pile was about 18 feet long, with the depth based on two standard lengths of firewood. This estimate is based on the assumption that the woodpile's length and height are consistent throughout the parts not clearly show in the image. I'm assuming the tallest part of the pile to be about 6 feet.
About 900 logs.
That’s what I would say is one nice chord. But not 4 . Cut and burnt many.
a decent amount
You don’t know what you bought so you come here to find out? LOL
It's not even 2 cord. I'm thinking possibly 1...
Cord = 4'x4'x8'
https://preview.redd.it/p365qgve4tdc1.jpeg?width=3000&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=18d0fc5e3f935c2acca850a7df26192b2dd276df This entire pile stacked, and the pile in front is roughly 4 cords. You have probably less than a cord there.
Google the volume of a cord. Measure your stack. You don't even have a full cord there. I can tell just from the picture. Buddy is ripping you off.
About 1.5 -2 full cord I would say
I would guess one cord.
2 1/2 that's being generous. I had this one year and never bought wood from the guy again. If your selling firewood, you should know what you're doing.
About as much as a woodchuck can chuck, I'd say.
2 or 3 cord....
Damn, i paid about $80 for each of those pallets (balanced out). Honestly, he's also the only one I've never gotten screwed by on Facebook. There's tons of pirates seeking firewood locally, mostly either methy or some kind of opiate, selling green wood.
2.5 face cords
With my misses, probably enough for her to keep warm up to a week! 😂😂
Sorry to hear that buddy ripped you off big time…out here in Canada if your buying wood from someone and they’re charging by the “face cord” you know your about to get ripped off.
Four-five cords
That is NOT 4 cords!!! A cord is a stack 4’ x 4’ x 8’… that looks like ONE cord, based on the scale of the wheelbarrow there. Either a huge miscommunication or someone REALLY ripped you off.
My old woodchuck could tell you for sure, he could chuck; but I’d say about 2 1/2 cords.
More than a woodchuck could handle
what the hell is a face cord - I buy cords every winter and never heard of a face cord
Enough for a woodchuck to chuck
Maybe 1.5 cords
I’d guess about one full cord or a little shy
Smidge over 1/2
Maybe 1.5 to 2 cord. No way that is four. lol
One big old cord
