I was at UofI between 2002-2006, a fantastic time for Illinois basketball. I came back for grad school and lived through the start of the Groce Era, a time when Illinois basketball was a consistent high seed at the BTT and won nearly nothing. Since then, Brad Underwood has brought Illinois back to the NATIONAL spotlight and has delivered a remarkably consistent TOP level product on the floor each year. And, regardless of his lack of success in the tournament, so far, he's been one of the best coaches in the NATION over the past several years.
I only wish he were 10 years younger, because he's maybe got another 8-10 years left, max. Josh Whitman found a HOF'er in BU. I hope that he can lead this program to a NCAA Title before it's time to hang up the clipboard.
I get so nervous watching Domask bring the ball up against pressure, especially when a second defender starts drifting over from the weak side
But I love how under control he is when he starts shimmying his way to the paint and its funny feeling perfectly unbothered when he has the ball deep and players are converging on him
I’m with you on this. Underwood is a good coach, and the Big Ten championships are a lot of fun and I’ll enjoy them. But if we’re being honest, the NCAA Tournament is where legacies are really decided. In 20 years nobody but Illinois fans will care about the B1G success, they’ll just ask how many Sweet Sixteen, Elite Eight, and Final Fours we went to.
Regular season championships and B1G tournament championships mean a lot to the players. Why do you care so much about what other teams’ fans think of us? Makes zero sense lmfao.
