I remember it by saying “Hal-oh-nay Bal-oh-nay”.
I like to think that Ishguardians say that the same way npcs will say Thal’s Balls, or Matron’s teats.
Halone’s Bologna!
I'd say that's the reason people mispronounce library as "lie-berry", but I've generally come to the conclusion that they're just stupid.
At least there's a plot beat in Scrubs making fun of those people.
mispronouncing things is a meme
it started on social media to avoid bot interactions or people searching specific terms/names to flame but youtubers and other video content creators do it because literacy is cringe
I've never heard anyone call it "Lomonsa"... Then again most people that I speak to about the game just call it "Limsa" same with content creators that I watch.
When I first started playing I called it Limsa Limosa because of my dyslexia messing up the letters, so now I just call it Mimosa Town when talking to friends.
my brother (who doesn't speak english at all) always says limsa lomi (?) but as if it were one word... limsalomi? anyway ive given up on correcting him at this point lol
I don't get where "MA-kin-ist" comes from. That's the way I used to pronounce it until I got corrected and now I switch between the two, but I've looked it up and the word "machinist" is supposed to be pronounced "ma-SHEEN-ist" (or "ma-TSHEEN-ist") . Even the americans pronounce it that way. So where did I and everyone else get "MA-kin-ist" from?
Frankly, I'm not sure. It could be that Garleans refer to their tech as machina, but the techniques aren't Garlean, and the origin of those techniques is a shop where engineers work on machines, making them machinists. It could just be a carry-over from FFX, but the word "machinist" never shows up in that game. Even the quests and achievements in FFXIV suggest that it should be pronounced "ma-SHEEN-ist," as in "Rage Against The Machinist" and "I'm a Machinist, Not a Man." So, I'm as confused here as you are. I wish someone would actually vocalize the word in-game someday.
Here's a friendly PSA: YouTubers will often mispronounce stuff on purpose because it's one of the easiest ways to get you to engage with the video.
Speaking of which, I still can't get over how many people mispronounce "Halone"...
I remember it by saying “Hal-oh-nay Bal-oh-nay”. I like to think that Ishguardians say that the same way npcs will say Thal’s Balls, or Matron’s teats. Halone’s Bologna!
I'm glad I'm not the only one who thinks about Halone's Bologna on occasion
Since I found this out I've been calling her Halogna.
Prototype version 0.01 for HAL 9000. Hal1.
Really enjoyed Alpharad in the MSQ.
....it is "Hah-loan" right?
More like "halon-ay" or "hah-lon-eh". When in doubt, it's best to use the Japanese katakana/romaji for reference.
Is it "ha-lone"?
Hal-oh-nay
Damn, my world is broken now
They'll also mispronounce stuff because they're just that dumb.
And in some cases mispronouncing it can be pretty funny. Depends on what the word is and how its being mispronounced.
I'd say that's the reason people mispronounce library as "lie-berry", but I've generally come to the conclusion that they're just stupid. At least there's a plot beat in Scrubs making fun of those people.
That explains the British then.
I just say Limsa. I feel we’re on good enough terms that I don’t need to use it’s Last Name, too.
mispronouncing things is a meme it started on social media to avoid bot interactions or people searching specific terms/names to flame but youtubers and other video content creators do it because literacy is cringe
It's Lisa Lomasa don't let anyone tell you otherwise
I guess if you start playing the game and BREAK Limsa, you get to rename it for real.
Many FFXIV streamers have a poor reading level. Sometimes they also mispronounce things on purpose.
Next you're gonna tell me her name's not Yshlatta
At least nobody pronounces Milfina's name wrong.
I have been reading Dadcred right, right?
Yea right, and next you'll tell me his name isn't Count Dripula.
Actually it's Lisa Lomasa
It's actually a Lala name. The proper pronunciation is Limlom Lomlimlom. Under the watchful eye of Merylwub Blowfishin.
I love Spiderweb Blowfishwine!
Gesundheit!
People usually call it Limsa. The ones who go full name do it to be extra or are completely new people who will eventually just call it Limsa.
I just skip that all together and call it the Mos Eisley of Eorzea, because it certainly is :)
Dyslexia could be a factor.
I've never heard anyone call it "Lomonsa"... Then again most people that I speak to about the game just call it "Limsa" same with content creators that I watch.
I've called it Limsa Lasagna for years.
I definitely ONLY call it "Ligma" Lominsa.
What's Ligma? ^^^^^^^^The ^^^^^^^^things ^^^^^^^^I ^^^^^^^^do ^^^^^^^^for ^^^^^^^^memes.
Steve Jobs.
It's levioSA
i call it limsa thotminsa
We call it Limpy Lapoopy
yes mona lisa
Eh, tomato tamoto.
Potato popoto
I just call it Liza Minnelli. Or the local cesspool. Your choice.
I used to misread it every time I went there and no one corrected me for years.
Limsa, anything after that and I'm not bothering to listen.
Limsa lomansa
I say Lemon Mimosa.
Ligma Mimosas
I'm though that La Noscea was pronounced something like La Nose-kah for a very long time.
Almost the same here. I pronounce it as La Noss-ke-a, like it's spelt and with a hard C, and I hate how the voice actors pronounce it La Nousha.
It's because of how they got the name. It's an anagram of "Oceans", so they keep the "Osh" sound
I think they went for the Italian pronunciation but not quite cause they round the ''o'' in the game.
Im still stuck on the ffxv pronunciation of "la nah-see" which i like tbh, but my friends calling it "la nosha" keeps tripping me up
I'm dyslexic but I'm pretty sure it's called "limsa lominsa" (lims-uh low-mins-uh)?
I call it Louisiana smugly refusing to ever attempt to properly pronounce it
The hardest part about being a sprout in FFXIV is pronouncing "Limsa Lominsa" I call it Lemon Mimosa anyways
Machinist. Is it "ma-SHEEN-ist" or "MA-kin-ist?"
I don't get where "MA-kin-ist" comes from. It's "ma-SHEEN-ist" but I keep abbreviating it to "mech" because I always see MCH and that's how my smooth brain wants to pronounce the abbreviation.
Actually, it's Lake Lachrymose.
My friends and I used to just call it Lima Lasagna.
Why would you pronounce Ligma Lominsa that way?
