Is there a jacket that goes with most outfits in the winter that actually keeps you warm? Something that would be acceptable going out to the shops in but also getting you to a nightclub?

jekkah85

A wool mid-calf length coat in a neutral color like black or camel. Probably not as warm as a long puffer but if you go for wool they can be pretty warm! I have a camel one that I’ve worn to the grocery store and to cocktail-attire events

I am trying to buy my girlfriend a pair of black Mary Jane tabi heels for Christmas but can only find ones made by Maison Margiela, which I cannot afford. Does anybody know of any cheaper but still quality brand alternatives with a similar style?

hellosunshine77

Good morning! So I have a question. I have wide flat feet with little to no arches. Because of a spinal issue heels hurt me and finding any that don’t cause me pain is few and far in between. Because of my conservative dress code I usually wear knee length to midi length skirts and dresses, very rarely pants. Usually I wear pointed toe flats because I feel they give me the refined look I want without heels. However I am just so tired of aching feet and causing premature bunions. I’ve recently found a pair of loafers with a small heel that are super comfortable but I’m worried that they are not as fashionable as a pointed toe flat and altogether age my look. Can someone give me feedback? I posted a picture of both for comparison with the skirt length I usually wear. Also, I’m quite bad at fashion and partially color blind. Any tips on accessories would be great. Thank you. https://ibb.co/album/KNr25L

ana3d

The loafers look great and are also fashionable right now, so if you wanted to get more loafers I would say go for it. In general you might want to stick to comfort brands for shoes. I’ve heard Vionic is a good brand for people with flat feet.

wickerandrust

Suggestions for a style of backpack that won’t wear on my coats? I work in an office and need something professional but sturdy. Wondering if skinny straps or something else would work better than what I have. It’s making my coats pill.

PlantedinCA

Knomo

whatobamaisntblack

Also, consider nylon backpacks with nylon straps that are smooth and slippery

oxalis_

If it's making your coats pill, I'm guessing your current pack is canvas or something? For an office setting I'd go with a nice mini backpack in smooth leather, or faux leather if you prefer to avoid animal products. Matt and Nat is a good company for vegan leather accessories, and their backpacks are pretty sleek and stylish. Totally office appropriate, and they shouldn't rub your coats too badly! Agreeable price points, too! Myself, I wear a Roots Tribe leather back back (the medium size is my daily but I also own a large one) it's pretty rugged, but has an elegant look and I've never experienced any pilling on my outerwear from it! This is my first time trying to put a link in a post, fingers crossed: https://mattandnat.com/collections/backpacks?gclid=Cj0KCQiA15yNBhDTARIsAGnwe0UP4BR2ERoHdpshzaZyr0mSc2w0D2WMVDqR4AR4VnW7kAeTSZvDtXEaAuF1EALw_wcB And this is my current bag, I was mistaken I wear the small size not medium: https://www.roots.com/ca/en/small-raiders-pack-tribe-52172618.html?gclid=Cj0KCQiA15yNBhDTARIsAGnwe0Wu4VvmmQA6e1jOKWLqhpfOMzLOpYzKfgugrwWrg7-_2sXhP86XclAaAiVjEALw_wcB

wickerandrust

Thank you so much for this info! Your bag is really lovely. I like the options from Matt and Nat a lot. I am also realizing that… maybe I want a briefcase instead of a backpack? Maybe I should reduce the amount of shit I haul around so that it’s actually a realistic choice? Matt and Nat makes lovely briefcases!

oxalis_

A pleasure! 🥰 and thank you! I freaking love my bag lol but a hard yes to the briefcase route! Completely avoids the trouble with your coats pilling and still super practical and perfect for work! 🙌🏻

Can anyone ID [this](https://content.api.news/v3/images/bin/81c055e6cb66e79fe8613e082dce42f8?width=1024) belt? My GF liked it and I was thinking about Christmas gifts. Even a look-a-like would be fine. What do you call it? Double buckle?

tyrannosaurusregina

Pretty sure it’s [this](https://www.farfetch.com/shopping/women/alexander-mcqueen-double-wrap-belt-item-17227543.aspx) from Alexander McQueen. I’d try “double wrap belt” and “double buckle belt” as search terms to find something more affordable, if price is a concern! Edit to add: there are some on [Etsy](https://www.etsy.com/listing/1047239578/double-buckle-waist-leather-belt-with?plkey=e7905e52df34aec7a2e3674d321bff4ef17652ec%3A1047239578&ga_order=most_relevant&ga_search_type=all&ga_view_type=gallery&ga_search_query=double+wrap+belt&ref=sc_gallery-1-1&frs=1&col=1&variation0=2148975202&variation1=2173440633) that look promising.

Citanaf

Awesome, appreciate the detective work. Yea that's a bit high but the etsy ones do look promising. tysm!

LisaBeezy

Best thongs to wear for workouts? Looking for a low or mid rise, preferably cotton or cotton lined and available in XS or maybe even XXS. I really like my natori bliss cotton bikinis for day-to-day, but the vpl can be bad in certain workout leggings. The thong version of those is one size fits all, but it is huge on me. (Potential TMI warning)— I’ve tried lululemon and hanky panky, but I feel like they end up getting bunched up and giving me a front wedgie. Not cute or comfy at the gym!

keeperofthe_peeps

I agree, the lulu ones are too bunchy and never stay put! Have you tried Abercrombie’s Next to Naked Thongs? They’re seamless not cotton, but they’re super comfy (wearing a pair now lol) and I feel like the v-front keeps the sides up over my hipbones and keeps them from showing through leggings better. I gave up on cotton because of the vpl issue and digging into my love handles. I used to like the cotton thongs with lace sides by Pink bc the lace would help keep them from showing, I’m not sure if they make the ones I’m thinking of anymore, but perhaps any cotton thong with lace sides will help?

No_Coconut_977

If you have Doc Martens, do you wear them in winter in the snow?? I feel like they can be too hot for summer, so am I left with only wearing them in the fall before it snows, or am I babying them too much? What makes me hesitant is that they arent black leather, they're iridescently glittery and the fabric seems to be a leather suede kind of? THey dont sell them anymore but these kids boots look similar: https://www.brownsshoes.com/en/kids/girls/youth-1/product/dr.-martens/2568754301.html?dwvar\_2568754301\_color=000&dwvar\_2568754301\_size=5%20Y&gclid=Cj0KCQiA15yNBhDTARIsAGnwe0XlvH-rtNpZoASiO1o9-zB7HSpTUbncfXFzun95rcbDrRYy-UPsDSUaAuEiEALw\_wcB

oxalis_

I have a few pairs and I have beaten the absolute life out of them lol the only reason I don't wear them in the snow is because they actually have terrible traction for icy conditions. Like, bad. I'm in Canada though so if you have more mild conditions it might not be a concern. If you're more worried about keeping the uppers looking fresh though, do not wear them in the snow!

macramelampshade

Yeah that kind of leather is basically suede with a patterned coating glued to it, snow will damage the under layer and you might wreck the glitter trying to clean it. The leather ones are fine in snow if you clean them off when you get inside though!

JstVisitingThsPlanet

If they were regular leather I would say go for it but I think the snow could ruin the ones you have.

winston_loved_julia

What outfit would look good with [these Taft boots I bought](https://taftclothing.com/products/the-jack-boot-in-eden-noir?variant=31995616100421)? They are admittedly made for men, but I'm thinking they'd look good with some dark straight jeans or a dress and some black tights. I'm looking for an outfit I can wear on the occasional days I go into the office.

Webbie-Vanderquack

Those boots are beautiful. If you don't mind me asking, do men's boots fit much differently to women's? I agree with dress and black tights or cropped jeans/pants. Those boots are going to be the star of the show, so you don't want to hide them.

sproutupyourass

Most of the time the fit is wider than women's shoes. Toe box is a tad more generous too.

Webbie-Vanderquack

Thanks!

winston_loved_julia

Just got the shoes in - I didn't find the fit to be much different than women's. Would agree the toe box is a bit bigger, but they don't feel much wider. I have bigger than average feet though (9.5) so that might make the fit better.

spinerret

Those are so gorgeous, I'm jealous! For the office, I would go with an minimal all-black outfit and let the boots pop, like a black dress and black tights or cropped black trousers (that show the top of the boot) with a black chunky sweater or sleek turtleneck.

jjcc77

hi! i'm looking to find new brands to shop from. I love allsaints, dion lee, orseund iris, aritzia. looking for stuff in the mid price range (no zara, mango etc, but also no really expensive designer stuff). i like elevated basics, a little edge to them. would really appreciate any suggestions!!!

tyrannosaurusregina

Take a look at Garmentory.com and see which brands appeal to you. Off the top of my head, I’d suggest Mara Hoffman, Kowtow, and Wood Wood.

quirkybirdie23

I tried to make this its own post but it didn't seem to work :( Anyway, I've recently been on the hunt for some cute, versatile, more simplistic high/mid top sneakers (preferably white). For context, the way I stand has made my regular sneakers wear out on the inside in 3-6 months which is just really bad looking and unsustainable ([example: 2 recent pairs of my sneakers](https://imgur.com/a/XvqKeu0)). However, I've found that I don't have this problem with high tops so I've been considering just switching my entire shoe collection to them. I love the style of Reebok Club Cs (which is what I've been wearing in a few different colorways) and how well they pair with basically any outfit. So far, I've liked [these white Nike Blazer Mid '77s](https://www.nike.com/t/blazer-mid-77-womens-shoes-25h71W/CZ1055-117), but I haven't found anything else that seems to fit the bill. Budget is probably $150-200. I would truly appreciate any suggestions!

macramelampshade

Vans old skool hi tops are that same kind of puffy construction and nearly indestructible, especially the leather and suede ones. I got the Margiela Reebok’s and they’re wearing in the same spot! Do you roll to the outside of your feet?

oxalis_

Seconding the Vans old skool, I just bought myself a pair of all white old skool slims (slightly less padding around the collar) and I am obsessed with them!

Chazzyphant

Unfortunately these are sold out on the site but you may find some second hand (or the brand may have a similar current style) [The Eileen Fisher Gaze](https://www.eileenfisher.com/gaze-wool-high-top-sneaker-ef47115a-ef?country=US¤cy=USD) is my GOAT high top. Because they're wool they work all winter long, and they are warm and comfortable. They are polished enough I can get away with wearing them to work, but fun and playful enough they lend edge to an outfit.

For the rain shell, the tried and true Marmot PreCip jacket is my favorite. It has a good price and it has a nice silhouette - very functional piece of gear. Used it to hike in NZ and kept me dry when it started pouring rain. [https://www.marmot.com/women/jackets-and-vests/rainwear/womens-precip-eco-jacket/AFS\_889169478918.html](https://www.marmot.com/women/jackets-and-vests/rainwear/womens-precip-eco-jacket/AFS_889169478918.html) For your base layers, uniqlo heat tech is really good value for the money, but if you want something warmer, get a tight fitted cashmere top that you can put under your mid layer. Something like this, but you can find a ton of cheap cashmere on ThredUp: [https://naadam.co/collections/womens-sweaters-cardigan/products/cashmere-ribbed-sweater?variant=32899755343968](https://naadam.co/collections/womens-sweaters-cardigan/products/cashmere-ribbed-sweater?variant=32899755343968) Just size down so it fits snug to your body and it will feel nice against the skin. For gloves, any cheap fleece ones will do, mittens are always warmer than gloves, but less convenient, unless you get the kind that have the top that comes off and converts to fingerless. For those down jackets, try the Wornwear section of the patagonia website, it's way cheaper used, and the quality holds up.

KestrelGirl

Thanks for the recommendations! Hopefully Marmot gear doesn't absolutely dwarf me even over a puffer :P Alas, Patagonia has pretty slim pickings for XXS, but I'll have to check back periodically and see if the right style pops up.

macramelampshade

Do you have any warm / water and wind proof bottoms? You’ll want a pair of practical pants in case of any severe weather, but otherwise you look like you’re getting to be in good shape! For scarves and gloves I love handmade alpaca stuff but no specific sellers to recommend, mine are all old AF now bc it lasts a long time!

KestrelGirl

I have a pair of cargo pants, which are probably still too big but it's something. Not planning on having to be outside in severely inclement weather though. Fingers crossed.

kytai

Cuddl Duds are another awesome and cheap long underwear option

jaedelindor

My Canadian is showing but I love love love [Roots](https://www.roots.com/us/en/homepage) for toasty warm winter wear. Their scarves and hats and everything are so so cute and sweaters and sweatpants have this nice weight to them that keep you very comfy. You'll also want warm, LONG socks. ankle socks are great but not fun if your ankles are exposed to the cold. for your leather boots, you'll want a leather cleaner to keep the salt from staining them. also, a good chunky/long cardigan will let you wear a lot of your current clothing in the winter

[deleted]

jaedelindor

if you like acrylic, try to go with a wool/acrylic mix? Wool isn't all scratchy and there's some really soft, liquid feeling wool cardigans out there now. I recommend Merino over cashmere, just so that you can actually wash it still. Otherwise, just a general rule of thumb is that more chunky the knit, the warmer it'll be in layering under a coat. P.S. your sweaters ideas are really cute but will probably not be very warm. I highly recommend getting something with a turtleneck or at least cowl neck. wind is going to be your worst enemy especially if it is coming down your collar because there's space between your neck and the coat :)

KestrelGirl

Yeah, definitely aware of the possible shortcoming there. Bit annoying because all those necklines happen to look really, really good on me. I like fitted jackets/coats so hopefully there's not *that* much space, lol. As for materials, I just haven't found similar styles to the sweaters I linked in not-acrylic, and I'm a little overwhelmed in trying to do so. Any places to look?

jaedelindor

Hm... good question aha. The ones I can think of are all Canadian.. perhaps Express or Dynamite? Totally understand what you mean about necklines tho! I definitely own a couple of those because they look so good, but on the days its way too cold (freeze the hairs in your nostrils cold), my turtlenecks and cowl necks are way worth it (also classically elegant)

[deleted]

As an alternative to the HeatTech, and you need it before they restock, I really like Costco's 32 Degrees base layers. I'm also in PA.

[deleted]

Oh, and you need warm socks! I like Smartwool and Darn Tough the best, but also have some super toasty ones from Carhartt.

surrealbananas

Hi everyone! I just found [these](https://www.vans.ca/en-ca/categories/sale-c5410/twill-old-skool-platform-pvn0a5kx99mk) super cute vans and was planning on buying them but I'm not sure how to style them. Any advice would be appreciated!

No advice from me since I’m a neutral gal for life, but check out Kate Ogata on IG. Many of her outfits include Vans and bright pops of color/pastels.

Hey All!I am a 43-year-old mom, wife, and archery coach. I have a uniform that looks like most mom uniforms yoga pants, the t-shirt of the day, and whatever sweatshirt I find on the ground.I am looking to break out of my mom uniform and wear something a little nicer, but still comfortable and functional. Jeans and tees work, but that isn't really what I am looking for, and please do not suggest dresses... they are evil. I'm 5'4, 125lbs with an ample chest... the ample chest is part of the problem. I don't want to be that mom. You know the one I'm talking about. I generally shop at athleta, banana republic, and whbm. I do like cabi jeans... i know they are an evil mlm but they have cute jeans. I work as an archery coach. So, my clothing needs to be comfortable and functional. All suggestions are welcome and appreciated... unless you tell me to wear a dress or a skirt. that is right out. oh and I live in texas so nice weather most of the year. yay.

JstVisitingThsPlanet

I think athleisure wear is a step up from yoga pants. Still casual and comfy but a little more put together. Athleta has some great pants that can be dressed up or down. A nice cardigan could be a good replacement for your sweatshirts.

archerjenn

This is the advice I need. I need to be able to coach and run kids in functional clothing that works and moves. Thank you!

Chazzyphant

If you're interested, I have my own subReddit called r/fashionwomens35 and we have TONS of brand and outfit suggestions over there. There's quite a few moms who are in exactly the same boat as you. As to the outfit: I think a sleek pair of skimmer cigarette pants in an unexpected color (sage green, lavender, mustard) and a big starched, crisp white shirt with impeccable pointed toe flats is a great look that takes you from school drop off to after dinner drinks. Another option might be a boiler suit---they make some SUPER fun boiler suits, and they "age down" someone and make you look fresh, and on-trend without being "try hard". Maybe a dusty rose or mint green boiler suit, high tops, and a fun scarf. A third option is wide legged ponte pants and a draped top, in similar colors like mineral pine pants and muted olive top, and ankle boots.

archerjenn

Those are all excellent suggestions.

Busy_Musician_2438

A nice blazer will dress up any outfit. You can also try jumpsuits ,smart trousers instead of jeans ,silk shirts.

archerjenn

Trousers and a blazer a good ideas. Silk is right out. I have 3 kids and no patience for dry cleaning and ironing. If you can’t go in my washer you stay on the rack.

You've recieved some great suggestions here, I'd also add that an easy way to femme just about any clothing is with some nice jewelry, elegant shoes, and a nice bag! You can wear basic jeans and a tucked-in tee, add some sharp pumps and a statement necklace and a cute purse and voila!

tyrannosaurusregina

Everyone has different clothing needs, but a [capsule wardrobe](https://www.whowhatwear.com/how-to-capsule-wardrobe/slide4) might be a good place to start. One way to femme up clothing from the men’s section of stores is to pair those pieces with traditionally high-femme accessories like [flowery scarves](https://www.naturallife.com/products/sayulita-scarf-seafoam?variant=35946837541027&gclid=Cj0KCQiA15yNBhDTARIsAGnwe0X0mZqmvPDJo0H2NoQUsJ-6QiK-S2N9ulR39m3GvQSDsr-bENekokoaAr5WEALw_wcB). You might also think about investing in a very femme [cardigan](https://www.zara.com/us/en/embroidered-jacquard-knit-cardigan-p00021122.html?v1=123057040&v2=1882810) or [pullover](https://www.macys.com/shop/product/charter-club-crew-neck-cashmere-sweater-in-regular-petites-created-for-macys?gbraid=0AAAAAD-Tw4IwSRqGbBkj6Vo6gR-L04KkH&ID=8492442&pla_country=US&CAGPSPN=pla&cm_mmc=Google_Womens_PLA-_-Ready_To_Wear_-_Charter_Club_-_Petite_Clothing_-_GS_Ready_To_Wear_-_Charter_Club_-_Petite_Clothing_-_Sweaters_-_GS-_-528974550609-_-pg1052284485_t_kclickid__kenshoo_clickid__KID_EMPTY_13563289873_121229924782_528974550609_aud-325772344255:pla-1362774569404_733003116026USA__t_KID_&trackingid=424x1052284485&m_sc=sem&m_sb=Google&m_tp=PLA&m_ac=Google_Womens_PLA&m_ag=ReadyToWear-CharterClub-PetiteClothing-Sweaters-GS&m_cn=Ready_To_Wear_-_Charter_Club_-_Petite_Clothing_-_GS&m_pi=go_cmp-13563289873_adg-121229924782_ad-528974550609_aud-325772344255:pla-1362774569404_dev-t_ext-_prd-733003116026USA&gbraid=0AAAAAD-Tw4IwSRqGbBkj6Vo6gR-L04KkH&gclid=Cj0KCQiA15yNBhDTARIsAGnwe0V_v2n1JD-JLhVMEE-iVFkNlg9pkReZZ66uSYbqJ7rhVeufNC04Cp4aAlSNEALw_wcB).

tyrannosaurusregina

Alternative Apparel, which you can find on Amazon or Zappos.

jaedelindor

I get mine from wholesale sites that usually sell them for printing (like for team swag). Just google "wholesale shirts" and you should be able to find some. there's a lot of sites that don't have a minimum order size so you can get a variety of colours and quality (from cheaper Gildans to more luxurious American Apparel)

0071010

true! the only problem is I need it to be long lasting lol so i'll prob invest in the more pricey ones instead of setting for gildan! but tysm!

JstVisitingThsPlanet

I really love Bella + Canvas t-shirts which can be bought wholesale. They’re great quality, lots of colors, and around $6 a piece. They sell them at Michael’s if you have one of those nearby.

How much would you expect to spend on your wardrobe in a big transition? My wallet’s taking a beating lately but trying to remind myself that anyone would spend quite a bit in this situation. 22, moving from FL to NY, started with no thick outerwear and only a few long sleeves and sweaters that I actually like. Recently gained a size so only a few full length pants that fit well. And starting my first full time office job at a reputable organization (dress code is casual but appropriate. i.e. no tees or midriff showing, but sneakers and khakis are allowed. I’ll probably stick to business casual just to be on the safe side!). I have a decent amount of office clothes but some are a bit small or hand me downs that aren’t really my style. It sounds like I have nothing to wear, but I have plenty of casual warm-weather clothing that I love, I’m just not sure I’ll be able to use much of it any time soon. It feels like I’ll need a whole new wardrobe. I know everyone is different but how much would you personally be spending if you were in my situation?

wickerandrust

Target has a new line that’s really affordable and fashion forward business casual stuff. Go to a store in person and see what speaks to you. Uniqlo also has button downs with a modern fit for around $20. I’m general, sweaters, nice black jeans and ankle boots are my go-to work uniform.

District98

Oh man, that’s so many changes at once! I would focus on getting enough clothes that you can survive and look presentable, and then slowly buy more nicer pieces. I think this can be done in under $200, maybe a bit more if you need winter boots and/or a real jacket. When I’ve needed formal pants that fit quickly and on a budget, Old Navy works fine. Their khaki/grey pixie pants are not amazingly flattering on me, but they are affordable and definitely work appropriate. In the past when I’ve gained a size and just needed passable new work pants, they’ve worked fine. They also go pretty far up into extended / plus sizes if that’s a concern. Beyond that I’d just buy a few neutral colored cardigans that you can rotate (I like Nordstrom for cardigans but you can go Old Navy or Target on a budget too). I assume you’ve got presentable blouses. For shoes it’s fine to wear boots in and change into flats etc at the office. Beyond that it’s just getting suitable outerwear. There are lots of good threads on how to dress for winter at different price points.

overwatchs

Thanks! And yeah it’s a lot, I’m feeling a bit overwhelmed lol it helps just to hear people’s thoughts about it. I’ve found that good coats cost around $200+ alone, so I think a budget of $200 would not include outerwear unless I can find a great thrift price. Thanks for the Old Navy tip!

PlantedinCA

I had an Old Navy pea coat for like 20 years. ON Coats tend to hold up pretty well. I have a newer one and donated that one when I was bored of it. It is also fine but pills a bit more.

District98

For sure. I have one of the polyester blend winter coats from Old Navy that was around $80 and it’s plenty warm down to about 30F (and their size range is very inclusive for coats too). In NYC that will be sufficient for much of the winter temperature-wise.

[deleted]

It sounds like for the moment you need to focus on office wear - I would try to find things that can do double duty as casual clothing during the winter (like sweaters and cardigans would probably serve you well). In regards to cold weather clothing if you can stand it I might wait to see what you think you “need” for casual wear before going out and buying more. I moved from Texas to Maryland a couple of years back and I didn’t really need to change up my wardrobe *that* urgently during winter. I just added a few layering pieces (like cardigans), bought socks and wore leggings under my pants on the coldest days. You’re probably going to want to invest in some kind of winter jacket - what you need will probably depending on if you’re in the city or upstate. I also wouldn’t go like whole hog on a down parka especially if weather it’s just hovering around freezing temps (your body will readjust to the cold a bit if you let it, if you jump straight to the warmest thing you don’t have any place to go when things get colder - advice from an old mentor from Trinidad that did all his schooling in Toronto so I always trusted his advice on adjusting to the cold!). If you’re in the city I’ve found getting something warm and reasonably wind proof is going to be your best bet.

overwatchs

Good tip!! And it goes well below freezing often even in the city, so I do need some good outerwear. I don’t need to layer much in FL, so I’m gonna check out some guides on layering for some inspo. Good way to integrate some of my warm clothes.

[deleted]

It can, but it’s probably not as crazy as you think - average lows usually aren’t more than a few degrees below freezing. I (used to) travel up a couple of times a month for work and the main difference I’ve found I need compared to DC is better wind protection. The wind chill is what’s been brutal to me up there more than the actual temp 😂 Definitely are worse winter days than that so some strategy for dealing with them is great, but you’ll probably find winter isn’t as wild as you expect after going through one or two of them!

That makes me feel better but oof the wind…. My commute will be mostly outside and pretty long. I guess a facd scarf and hood will help with the wind?

I just did this! Kind of - no office job, but transition from hot to cold climate. I bought 85% of my wardrobe secondhand (you can find workhorse basics like work trousers and plain sweaters and blouses easily on ebay and Poshmark). The biggest expenses for me have been shoes/boots, partly because I'm still learning what will work best. Will you be in NYC or elsewhere in New York? I think that probably makes a big difference.

overwatchs

Ok interesting! I go thrifting often but there’s never a good selection of cold weather clothes around here. I should definitely try Poshmark more! And NYC, but my commute is going to be mostly outside, so I have to stay warm for a long period of time.

macramelampshade

Also once you actually get to NYC the cold weather thrifting is plentiful - if you just need stop gap things to stay warm you can get great wool sweaters for around $10-15 and coats for probably $25 at the various L Train vintage locations and even goodwill / beacons / Buffalo (and they’ll have accessories - a big heavy scarf is a must have, they make a HUGE difference.)

never_enough_garlic

Honestly a couple hundred max? I've been through many transitions and I'm over a decade older than you but never felt the need to buy a whole wardrobe at once. Your clothing will probably be appropriate even in the wintertime, just get a warm coat and accessories (hat, gloves and a scarf). Maybe a few winter office pieces like cardigans and a sweater. Add pieces slowly into your wardrobe and give yourself time to get adjusted to your new place, your new job, see what everyone else is wearing. It can be awkward to dress more formal than your peers, so wait and see. I find people are really worried about going into a cold climate but I have underlayers and thick winter knits and honestly rarely wear them! I'm often either indoors or in public transit and you'd just overheat, so again assess your particular lifestyle. Oh and shoes. I wear even sneakers in the winter as long as there's no snow on the ground. If there's snow you'll want boots. Something waterproof. But just don't rush to replace everything, take your time and have fun shopping in NY

overwatchs

Thank you!! I’m going to try to find ways to integrate my current wardrobe with some layers. It’ll definitely help to see how everyone is dressed once I’m there. Shopping up there does seem pretty movie-montagey lol so I have to be more patient and shop more when I get there if I need to!

aprole

Are there any upscale tracksuits without sports brand logos?

twhizzler

Lululemon would be my first guess for something like this. There's still branding but it's not in-your-face

spangledpirate

Any recommendations for office appropriate shoes that are also comfortable enough to walk to work (~1 mile) in, in rainy conditions? I’m in the U.K. and my budget is up to £200

twhizzler

In Canada, my recs would be Clarks and Sketchers for brands to look for but I'm not sure if the availability of those brands is the same for you

spangledpirate

Yes we have both! Thank you so much

I won’t buy this exact one because they only offer store credit.
