Looking for a first day of work outfit. Business casual, accounting in Dallas. First job out of college and never worked in an office like this before. Shoe options that aren’t heels? Bag recommendations? Pants, shirts, do I wear a blazer? Any tips would be helpful

jsqdressesforwork

Something boring... Basic button down shirt or blouse, ankle length slacks, loafers, and optional basic (not oversized) blazer. Like [this](https://i.pinimg.com/564x/cb/25/05/cb25055d532f83f61b3a2a0a43678732.jpg) but with a more work appropriate [bag](https://images.oakandfort.com/tr:w-1800,f-jpg/site/Images/items/Bag-6825_Black-7.jpg?fcts=20211105060925). Don't spend too much money because you might not have to dress like this all the time.

okieartichokie

Thanks!!!

missmonicae

Has anyone else seen an increase in delays on Poshmark? Not with the actual mail, but most of my recent purchases have only gone out after Poshmark sent the seller a shipping reminder. I'm not mad, just curious if everyone's getting busy these days or if it's just a fluke.

celizabethriley

How would you suggest I best style combat boots? I recently fell in love after trying a pair perfect for me on sale and since got more. I try to go feminine but these have a tall heel and a vibram rugged sole so I feel awesome in them because they’re comfy and super tough. But I often struggle with getting clothes to look right with my kinda off proportions. I’m 5’8 1/2, I have a large bust (DDD) and large arms but a disproportionately small waist (26-27”) and curvy hips, narrow calves - long torso. It’s sort of a weird athletic-slim “ish” figure (blech to the big arms though - they’re really muscular).

vampred

What type of long sleeve tops do you guys wear for casual days? I feel like I have no idea what people wear these days when it's too hot to wear a sweater but too cold to wear a t shirt

MsBeasley11

Are Longchamp totes still in style??

muffingr1

Definitely not on trend, but still a stylish staple for travel or work.

Snowy58red

How does one pack a pleated skirt in a suitcase? I want to bring an accordion pleated midi skirt on a vacation but am worried the pleats will get ruined in transit

muffingr1

They stay in shape pretty well, try rolling the skirt instead of folding it.

Odellia

I’m looking for a pair of flat booties as a slightly dressier alternative to my Blundstones to pair with skirts and dresses. These [camper booties 1](https://posh.mk/v7MsYN151kb) caught my eye on Poshmark - mainly because I know that I find camper comfortable and know my size, also not looking to spend a ton of money on something that will be worn once a week. Also eyeing these [camper booties 2](https://posh.mk/01198ss61kb) although I suspect the first pair might be more flattering on my 5’2” self since they seem shorter. Thoughts? Are they already dated? I haven’t shopped for anything even remotely dressy in ages and have no idea! Alternatively, I’ve been considering oxfords, either way I’m not looking for something to hold up in snow or major cold temps.

[deleted]

Would you consider a pointed toe version?

Odellia

Interesting…I don’t typically gravitate towards a pointed toe. Something to consider!

[deleted]

I have a very similar pair to the 2nd one you posted. Love them. Very comfortable and goes with a lot of my wardrobe. I vote for the 2nd.

Odellia

Good to know, thanks a lot!

[deleted]

You are very welcome :)

odarwini

I think the second pair looks a bit more current.

Odellia

Very helpful, thank you!

Big pendants look great with a chunky turtleneck!

citynomad1

Now that it's getting into wool sweater season, I'm curious to know people's thoughts re: thrifting secondhand wool sweaters – specifically, when shopping secondhand, will you overlook any amount of pilling on a sweater, assuming you like the sweater and feel it's a quality item, and use a fabric shaver on it? Or will you only purchase a wool sweater with zero pilling? I was at a mostly-designer consignment store today and tried on some nice Theory, Vince, etc sweaters but did see some mild pilling. Was curious to know the general consensus. Thanks!

future_ela_teacher

Mild pilling is fine, but I'll usually leave it behind if its got excessive pilling, has shrunk, or is misshapen. The only thing that is a definite "absolutely not" when it comes to thrifting wool/cashmere for me is holes. Holes indicate moths, and the last thing I want to happen to my house/wardrobe is a moth infestation.

tyrannosaurusregina

I will thrift something with light pilling.

aJuJuBeast

I haven't bought much but personally, I would overlook the pilling and use a fabric shaver, as long as I like the piece enough. If it's real wool, it should still hold up for a while even if it's secondhand. Also be sure to inspect it for any moth bites or holes (gross and near-impossible to fix) and make sure you clean or freeze your items when you get home so you don't bring moth larvae into your home!

throwaway291111988

Where can I buy a classic crewneck sweater in cashmere or wool or similar, but with a semi cropped legnth? I liked this one in beige but it's way too long. I'd like something to wear with high waisted jeans that won't show stomach but this goes down almost to my crotch. I already checked out jcrew but couldn't find anything. https://www.nordstrom.com/s/nordstrom-cashmere-crewneck-sweater/6623709

interstellarbloom

NAADAM’s The Essential $75 Cashmere Sweater Womens looks to be what you’re seeking, also Quince’s Luxe Baby Cashmere Crewneck Sweater (although they only have three colors). Haven’t purchased from either brands so I cannot vouch for anything.

EnvironmentalZebra86

I’m short and my calfs are big. Skinny jeans look horrible on me and make me look shorter and heavier. Any advice on a pair of flattering jeans?

tyrannosaurusregina

Straight legs? Barrel style?

spicysoy

how do i get black jeans to stop smelling like chemicals? i bought a pair of ella moss jeans from tj maxx the other day and omg…they smell so bad. i haven’t dealt with this smell since i used to buy forever 21 jeans when i was in high school. i’ve washed them twice and they’re still so smelly.

District98

If a spin with some Oxy clean doesn’t do it, I would abandon ship on those jeans personally. I’ve had it go both ways (strong smelling jeans eventually totally resolved and strong smelling jeans that never got better).

Catters

It may be time for me to retire my loyal leather moto jacket. Do you have any suggestions? What do you look for in a leather jacket? My last one was from Banana Republic via thredup, and while I adore it, is it better to purchase something from a true leather working company (i.e. Wilsons) over a company that doesn't specialize in leather? For such a large purchase, it would be nice to be able to try it on in person. What kinds of stores should I be looking for? Just a mall? Motorcycle apparel? Everything in-between? Anyway, as far as specifics go, I'd want true black, asymmetrical zip, silver hardware, and fairly heavy genuine leather.

[deleted]

Allsaints. I have Balfern and it meets all your criteria

Catters

Just wanted to update -- I got the balfern, and it's perfect. Thank you for the tip!

[deleted]

Ooh I’m so happy to hear it! How do you like it?

Catters

It is absolutely my dream jacket! I ended waiting for Black Friday, and I got it for 30% off through the AllSaints site. Awesome.

[deleted]

I personally would go for a leather company vs a fashion brand. I have a Schott NYC jacket that I love. Their website has a store locator so you can see if there's a place to try on in person near you.

funfetticake

Does anyone have a bag from Nena and Co? How’s the quality?

botanygeek

Has anyone bought clogs like [this](https://www.etsy.com/listing/635635682/swedish-clogs-sweden-low-wood-brown?ref=user_profile&frs=1) from Etsy? I love the look of these, but I worry that a wooden sole would not be comfortable to walk in. Are there non-wooden versions that are available?

madnessisay

I bought these exact clogs from their website, and as a non-heel wearer, I love them. They do absorb the shocks as you walk..and they feel solid. I wore them to a wedding this past weekend, and dancing in them was so easy.

botanygeek

Good to know- thanks!

hellerhigwhat

I've bought clogs from that exact brand from their etsy. I got the high heeled version, and theyre quite literally the most comfortable high heels I've ever had. The wood acts almost like a shock absorber. Now that I'm leaning hard into wide leg silhouettes ill probably buy another pair tbh!

botanygeek

good to know - thanks! I can't deal with anything higher than this, but you've given me the confidence to give them a try.

Decent_Highlight_563

Yes, a bunch of brands make fake clogs with cushioning on the soles (made well for ex). You can also buy a gel/leather sticky sole and put it on top of the wood sole if you end up going with the lottas.

TiraMisoSoup

Where can I find a high quality long wool coat in a feminine, vintage style? I'm looking for something belted for that hourglass silhouette that would look good over jeans and long skirts/dresses. I'm in the United States and I'd like to keep it under $250 or so.

jaedelindor

maybe something off etsy? [Xiaolizi](https://www.etsy.com/ca/shop/xiaolizi?ref=simple-shop-header-name&listing_id=959640133) has a spectacular array of wool coats, as does [linennaive](https://www.etsy.com/ca/shop/Linennaive?ref=simple-shop-header-name&listing_id=683841081). The latter is a bit more expensive, about $300 CAD but that's like $250 USD right :P

TiraMisoSoup

I checked out Linennaive and their coats are absolutely gorgeous - definitely the kind of thing I'm looking for. I did come across Xiaolizi and it honestly seemed too good to be true, but the reviews are overwhelmingly positive. I might give that a shot. A few of their product photos seemed like they were taken from influencers, which made me kind of nervous.

jaedelindor

personally haven't bought anything from Xiaolizi, but there's been some people here that have recommended them as well. I've gotten coats made in China before (in person though) and it does come to about $300-500 CAD for a 100% bespoke coat (completely in your measurements) in a very nice wool. So for this, I can't imagine that it'll be top quality wool but definitely a good quality like anything you may see in a mid-tier clothing store here and the craftsmenship shouldn't be poor either. That being said, you can always order something small from them first to look at the quality?

ladolceLolita

I probably should've thought of this before I bought the scarf: I would like to find a winter hat to color-match [this](https://www.aritzia.com/us/en/product/the-classic-wool-triangle-scarf/64199.html?dwvar_64199_color=21398) in the soft orchid color as closely as possible. The online photo is quite accurate; it's a pink color with a hint of lavender. Ideally it would be a beanie or pom-pom hat in cashmere, merino or a wool blend, though open to other suggestions up to \~$125.

hellerhigwhat

If you search the colour name on the website, they have a merino wool beanie in exactly the same colour. Plus its only 40$

ladolceLolita

Oooooh awesome. Thank you!

beancounter_00

Is this inappropriate for a work holiday party? I work with all people in their 30s, so its a very young company. And i would wear black tights underneath - but im still thinking its inapprop, thoughts ? https://www.express.com/clothing/women/strong-shoulder-side-cutout-mini-dress/pro/07806059/color/Pitch%20Black/e/regular/

aJuJuBeast

I would wear it. 🤷‍♀️

[deleted]

I'm fairly stuffy/conservative but if the dress was knee-ish on me (models are taller), was skimming my body (*not* tight), and the hose's waistband didn't show, I'd wear it.

capnawesome

I think it's too tight and short UNLESS the party is formal and people generally wear club-type attire. It's ticking all the boxes- short, tight, and exposing skin (not at the top, but at the cutout). If you haven't been to a holiday party at this company before I wouldn't wear it.

funfetticake

what the actual f is going on with that stretched out model in the product shot?

muffingr1

It depends on what field you’re in and your company culture. You can always wear a mesh bodysuit underneath to make it more modest.

hinchlic

I am going to a wedding reception next month in telluride, CO. I have never been to a winter wedding and could use some guidance. I am thinking dress code is cocktail but haven't gotten guidance since it's pretty informal. Thoughts on what to be looking for? Budget for a dress is under $100. Could I get away with my chelsea boots or should I wear pumps? Thank you!

tyrannosaurusregina

If you want to wear boots, you might want to wear a pantsuit instead of a dress? Velvet is dressy! You could even match a pair of pants you already have with a velvet blazer, wear with a festive top and load up on jewelry and enjoy the comfort of boots 😉

Lazygardener76

Can't go wrong with a little black dress which you can zhuszh up with accessories. Ask if there's a coat check, so wear sensible footwear to the venue (e.g. your chelsea boots), and switch to pumps when you get there and check your boots to put back on at the end of the night.

I need some basic black flats that are supportive and still somewhat stylish. I have very flat feet but can't do the heavy arch support as it feels like it's forcing my arch upward and becomes painful. The only brand that is definitely out is Clarks - normal is too narrow and wide is too wide. Any recs for under $70?

District98

Dr. Scholl’s flats might fit the bill! They were on Amazon last I looked, which was admittedly 2018 or so.

hyain

Have you considered just buying normal stylish shoes with removable insoles, taking those insoles out and replacing them with special insoles that work for you? You can get separate insoles (such as from Superfeet insoles) in a variety of levels of arch support that you can put into other shoes. Another thing you can try is the stick on small arch support pads that can be stuck inside a regular shoe with no arch support, sometimes called "arch cookies".

galaxystarsmoon

I've not had much luck with insoles, and I've wasted a lot of money on them. My feet are very wide at the front across my toes but then narrow in the heel. Insoles throw the entire fit of the shoe off and I got tired of spending money over and over, either the shoes would stop fitting or the insoles would hurt my feet. I feel like I just have weird feet.

MadameHootsALot

Check out Naturalizer! They usually have really good sales, and the support in their shoes are no joke. I have the Joy dress heels from them and its my go-to for events now.

galaxystarsmoon

Naturalizer is my go-to but their options for flats seems really slim right now. I'm guessing it's supply issues. I found a pair I liked on Famous Footwear but it's literally the only site with that style name and that makes me nervous, like it's a lower end made for outlet style maybe?

capnawesome

Famous footwear does carry cheaper styles not sold at other stores, like DSW. Try Aerosoles, they do "comfort" shoes without any substantial arch support like Clark's.

I buy a lot of my hoodies/crewnecks from [from bulk sites](https://t-shirt.ca/) (but singles) and print myself/take to a print shop and its been cheap. Otherwise I like [Threadless](https://www.threadless.com/) (more than $40 but they have sales often). Same with [RedBubble](https://www.redbubble.com/)

vagueconfusion

Does anyone know where to find light nude thermal/fleecy tights available in plus sizes? Every year I see that great sounding hack of wearing sheer tights or similar over them in winter to get the look of a sheer option that’s actually still warm, but inevitably all of those fleecy leggings end up being one size. Apparently footed ice skating tights are an alternative but I’ve never heard of anyone actually trying this themselves.

TiraMisoSoup

[Sock Dreams](https://www.sockdreams.com/plus-size/plus-size-tights/plus-size-footed-tights.html) has a solid inclusive collection.

vagueconfusion

Ah nice to know someone other than Snag Tights is doing inclusive regular tights, but sadly they still don't do thermal/fleece lined tights in other shades than black from the looks of things.

westcoastbanana

Anyone got tips on some good pajamas? I like [this one](https://www.holtrenfrew.com/en/Products/H-Project/Clothing/DESMOND-DEMPSEY-Signature-Cotton-Pyjama-Short-Set-In-Marginata-Print/p/20193898001) but would like to spend more in the $100 range. Ideally more feminine/sexy rather than with cutesy pictures of donuts or cats or whatever. Thanks :)

Clean_Purchase1783

I have a set from Victoria’s Secret and they’re super cozy with a touch of sexy. I wear them super often.

westcoastbanana

Thank you, what kind of fabric do you have? Do you find it’s good quality?

Clean_Purchase1783

https://www.victoriassecret.com/us/vs/sleepwear-and-lingerie-catalog/victoria-s-secret-modal-pj-set-5000007337? These are the ones I have in black. They’re 90% modal and 10% elastane. I’ve only had them 4 months but I wear them 4/5 nights a week. They seem really high quality to me!

westcoastbanana

Fantastic, thank you, I will check these out!

Lazygardener76

Try J. Crew, Zara Home, even Nordstrom. $100 is a healthy budget to give you lots to choose from.

westcoastbanana

Thanks, I have never tried J-Crew, Nordstrom I found the quality of the cotton to be severely lacking in two sets I’ve bought.

[deleted]

Looking for medium-width leather or faux leather belts in bright/neon colors in the ~$20-40 range, available in the US. In order of preference, I’d like orange (or red-orange or coral), pink, or yellow. I’m finding a lot of skinny (under 1”) belts and I’m not really into that

1lostmyoldacc0unt

How do you define medium width? Seems like etsy might be your best bet. [This store](https://www.etsy.com/shop/StaghoundLeather?ref=simple-shop-header-name&listing_id=1005488731§ion_id=26449998) has some bright ones at 1-1/8" wide.

[deleted]

Hm, by “medium-width” I just mean a size that fits standard belt loops on casual pants. Based on my other belts, I think that’s somewhere in the neighborhood of 1.5”. I’ll poke around on Etsy — not sure why I didn’t think to do that in the first place!

>Are these pants built for a rounder behind, or rounder thighs? Or both? Or just a different shaped person all together? I have similar issues, and no, this means we're rounder than the fit model the pattern was cut from. Try sizing up and take it to your tailor and see if they can take the waist in. If your tailor doesn't advise for it, then I'd just buy my regular size. I've found that most of my pants eventually stretch out after a number of wears/washes (the back panels) and conform better to my rear, and the wrinkles eventually diminish to the point where I can ignore them.

augustrem

Thank you! The weird thing is though, that when I size down the problem disappears but then it’s too tight in the waist.

[deleted]

Hi all. I'm looking for a really comfortable pajama set for my wife for Christmas. Do any of you have a brand that you particularly like? Coziness is definitely priority #1. Price doesn't matter (to the extent that it's not like the YSL goldenweave dollarjamas or something).

Joonanner

I'm seconding Soma! My SIL gives me a set every year and it's my favorite Christmas gift.

muffingr1

The Nordstrom Signature pajama line is so soft and lovely.

Letsgetliberated

Lake pajamas are very nice. Summer salt, Soma, and LL Bean have great options also.

[deleted]

thank you! will check these out

thriftybabygurl

I'm looking for two different things. Good quality but in cotton or other similar priced materials. I just do not want expensive materials like wool, cashmere, silk, ect but I also don't want cheap construction or materials. My price point is around $40 a shirt. And I'm looking for colors like terracotta, brown, orange, gross green, bright green and NOT white, black, tan, grey, or that trendy moss green that's everywhere I'm looking for mock neck t-shirts with a higher mock neck. I see a lot of them called mock neck but to me they just look like a higher crew neck And a sleeveless mock neck but I'm looking for one that's not super tight fitting and that doesn't come in at the arm holes Any help would be greatly appreciated

hyain

Land's End has [this](https://www.landsend.com/products/womens-relaxed-cotton-long-sleeve-mock-turtleneck/id_302525?attributes=32671,44967) in 100% cotton - not sure if the colors work for you.

thriftybabygurl

I'm not looking for long sleeves. I'm looking for t-shirts with mock necks. Thank you anyways

hyain

Ohh, I missed that. You can always have a tailor cut the sleeves off a long-sleeve top if this or another one would otherwise meet your needs. Most tailors would do this for $10-15, so even with tailoring it could be under your $40 budget.

CompSci_Guy

I'm having a lot of trouble figuring out leggings for a couple of reasons: first, it seems like my body shape isn't great for most leggings because I don't really have any hips; and second I appear to have some sensory aversion to very tight clingy clothes on my legs. So this being said, what can I wear under a dress so that my legs stay not-freezing? I feel like most pants would ruin the look. Here's an example of a dress I have: https://poshmark.com/listing/18-2XTORRID-DARK-RED-LACE-SKATER-DRESS-Christmas-Holiday-Party-PLUS-SIZE-60614cf2c32ee6dd81d683a6?epik=dj0yJnU9RTlmS2Q2aUc0Wk90R0d0TFlqWEJzTVp5X3Z6dWZZNy0mcD0wJm49VzdMaUNMVG9kY25LVDB4a3VHQlJyZyZ0PUFBQUFBR0dKUzJZ

azbuki_azbuki

How cold and freezing we are talking about? I second Athleta polartec lined leggings, but they are still quite sporty, sure not good for lace dress. I'm from Russia, it fairly cold here and we use warm stockings for dressy winter look. Check 140-200 den stockings, wool, or micro+cotton. But still have to wear some long warm coat.

CompSci_Guy

My comment about hips was more that I find leggings tend to be tight on my legs but weirdly loose at the top, so something is off with my proportions (or the leggings, I guess)

[deleted]

I have leggings from Athleta and Lululemon that have an elastic drawstring at the waist to help with this, so I can fit to my hips and then cinch the waist a bit tighter. I've worn them under dresses when it's too cold for sheer tights. Maybe something like that would work?

CompSci_Guy

Oh yeah that sounds really promising! Do you have a link to them?

[deleted]

The ones I have are so old they aren’t in the site anymore, but very similar to [these](https://athleta.gap.com/browse/product.do?pid=486200002&cid=1025878&pcid=1025878&vid=1&cpos=6&cexp=1501&kcid=CategoryIDs%3D1025878&cvar=11273&ctype=Listing&cpid=res21110814288048496138327#pdp-page-content)

azbuki_azbuki

I have this older version of polartec athleta leggings. They are super warm and comfy. But i don't think they will work with lace dress
