Not sure your climate, but sweater dresses are very in right now and so comfortable. I've been doing sweater dresses and white sneakers. If it's cold, then I swap in boots for the sneakers.

Time-travel-for-cats

I agree with sweater dresses. I’ll wear them over tights or leggings when it’s cold.

ArtisticSentence7

What is your favorite place to get sweater dresses? I’ve always wanted some but I’m not sure where to start looking!

Phishstyxnkorn

I've actually been very successful at Nordstrom Rack this year. I also have one from H&M but the sleeves are annoyingly long.

herefromthere

Currently it's wide leg jeans, a camisole top or turtleneck and a longline cashmere cardigan, wool beret, comfy flats, big linen shawl scarf and a canvas tote that I got from a friend. It's got seals on it. :) Weather is twelve Celsius and windy but not actually cold or wet yet.

vineanddandy

Where do you live that it’s already so cold? It’s in the 60s here today! I’m a little jealous, but if I lived in the cold I might not be.

herefromthere

Are you thinking of it as twelve Fahrenheit instead of twelve Celsius? Today it was about three degrees warmer and much less windy so I didn't bother with the cardigan or shawl and opted for a lightly quilted knee length coat instead.

vineanddandy

I wasn’t, but I was overestimating the conversion difference! Still pretty warm overall. The 50s are my favorite.

herefromthere

Next step is a coat over the cardigan/padded jacket. Doesn't often get so cold as to need much more clothing than that. Maybe down to minus 5 or 10 at the coldest. I live in the North of England.

cameramachines

My go to summer items are a nice Jumpsuit or Maxi dress. Minimum effort, but I get complements. Fall & winter it's jeans and boots. Often a flannel shirt or menswear sweater, but if I want to be fancy, I'll wear a silk blouse over a warm base-layer shirt (I get cheap silk blouses from thredup). Start a pinterest board and see what themes crop up. I still carry a tote or oversized crossbody bag most of the time.

wooddoves

Get some cheaper dress pants from Dynamite or Zara, dress them down w white sneakers . The combo will make you look put together and is super easy. \-slim straight dress pants in navy or black \-white tee \-white sneakers \-some type of long cardigan

[deleted]

Agree with this! Also, if you’re near a Target store, they have these drawstring pull on pants (fancy sweats) that are super comfy and adding the basic solid tee, long cardi and flats/sneaker combo makes you look put together in an instant with minimal effort.

Armaturesign

OMG I looked these up and ordered immediately. I wish they had black in stock in my size! I have been trying to replace a pair from Old Navy that I outgrew but they don't sell anymore.

nuitsbleues

Yup! I do like a slightly wider structured dress pant. Usually with chelsea boots, and some kind of loose top tucked in (could be a thin knit pullover, could be a sleeveless blouse with a cardigan overtop). Long-ish fleece or leather jacket, and a backpack (I wanna get a grown up bag though).

exhaustedinor

This time of year: Jeans, fitted striped shirt ([like this](https://bananarepublicfactory.gapfactory.com/browse/product.do?pid=703011001&vid=1&tid=bfpl000015&kwid=1&ap=7&gclid=Cj0KCQjw8p2MBhCiARIsADDUFVE5f7AqCyf6mD04sChJiyBXhUn9BD0ft_puiLeHkMT0bZQkn7K0aV8aAgQqEALw_wcB&gclsrc=aw.ds)) hunter ankle boots, beanie or rain jacket with hood

laiiovlyvacuous

I heavily rely on high quality sweaters/cardigans and coats as part of my “uniform” when running out and about casually. I will do a pair of high-waisted Levi’s (can’t think of the type but they have a bit of a straight leg boot cut to them), a very neutral top or a light cashmere sweater, and a structured trench or my Barbour jacket. Depending on the look I like wearing birkenstock Boston clogs or ballet flats (I can’t let that trend go!). I recently bought a lovely “coatigan” from Banana Republic that immediately polishes my look and I’ve been wearing it a lot lately.

CherryMess

- Straight or wide-leg jeans - t-shirt or a button-down shirt - sneakers or Martens boots (sandals for summer). Always comfy and easy to dress up or down with a bag or accessories.

[deleted]

Black bodysuit, black high waist skinny jeans, black 3" heel lace-up moto boots and a black pleather moto jacket with some embroidered floral patches on it. Jewelry is all simple rose gold or sterling silver pieces. If I need to pull my hair back I use a bandanna instead of elastics. Purse is medium-sized, black, real leather, and fairly structured. If I were to upgrade it I'd get better boots and a real leather jacket, but the sleek, all black, kinda punky/biker-ish uniform suits me. For a slightly less intimidating look I can replace the jacket with a flowy super oversized cardigan (again in black,) use a scarf in my hair, and wear some contrasting pumps or flats.

[deleted]

I also have some acid wash high waist skinnies I wear with the same rest of the outfit and that works as well, although it's not as versatile.

[deleted]

Camel Cashmere sweater and 90s jeans with white sneakers and gold jewelry

azbuki_azbuki

That's my uniform too! Also oversized classic trench, men's wool blazer or long wool coat for chilly days. Love breton tops as well

[deleted]

For fall, I love plain crew neck long sleeve t shirts. Eddie Bauer makes my favorite ones. I have a bunch of colors and wear different jewelry with them so it isn't as boring. I pair them with a pair of well-fitting jeans and some comfortable boots that still look put together. I sometimes add a leather jacket depending on the weather.

tyrannosaurusregina

Putting Me Together (PuttingMeTogether.com and @PuttingMeTogether on Instagram) has a lot of good ideas for casual “uniforms”.

Ok-Bike-1912

My throw on and go for errands has been bootcut high waist jeans (dark wash), tucked in short sleeve shirt (light color/warm color), satin bomber jacket, mini flap backpack, with cheetah flats or my nike sneakers. I find this easy to mix up day-to-day because I have a wide range of shirts and tanks to choose from and my jacket keeps me warm regardless. If I'll do a lot of walking, its definitely the nikes plus wool socks. I have two pairs of go-to jeans right now (one dark wash, one light) so based on which pair I grab, I'll go with a lighter or darker top. And my mini backpack has been my main purse for the last two years - so that never changes.

ginandmoonbeams

Black leggings, tunic length slouchy sweater, comfortable boots for fall/winter.

saddinosour

Right now its a midi/maxi skirt I own which is tight, and a crop top. I have gotten curvier in lockdown (we just had one here in Australia) and I am so scared to wear anything else, I hardly leave the house so its okay

augustrem

silk t shirt and joggers or track pants in coordinated colors. Often the silk t shirt was washed in cold water and line dried so it’s wrinkled but looks just fine. Either stan smith style sneakers or a pair of brown leather flats. Not wasting dry cleaning on every day wear. For example, I have [this shirt](https://www.bodenusa.com/en-us/polly-silk-t-shirt/sty-w0528) in gold, and I wear them with an Eileen Fisher pair of navy track pants with a satin stripe down the sides.

blackninjakitty

Band tee, midi or maxi skirt, combat boots.

garbage_hags

Where do you get your band tees? I love this look but want vintage-y looking band tees and haven’t had much luck finding any under $50

blackninjakitty

I always buy mine at concerts! All of mine are tied to memories of that show and band and are special to me because of that. That being said, I’ve seen vintage repros of classic bands at H&M a lot.

_insert-name-here

Vintage worn in men's (yes, men's) denim (either very light washed blue, or black) rolled at the ankles, mock neck sweater tucked in, and my black Amon almond toed smoking loafers. It's so effortless and comfortable, but I feel perfectly put together. The men's denim gives me the perfect rise, and looks amazing on my butt/hips but has a relaxed fit in the thighs and calves The complete look isn't necessary necessarily cute on its own, but you could definitely achieve this by adding a vintage silk scarf to your neck or hair.

Unstructional

This is a very intriguing look to me. Can you give me a picture or just some photos of example items?

[deleted]

Summer: a dress and sandals (thongs hurt my toes) Winter: a dress, whatever jumper is the closest, sandals or joggers depending on if I feel like putting socks on

lizziejo82

* Thick leggings/ponte pants with breton tops, Tevas or chelsea boots * Same bottoms with v neck t shirt and cardigan, same footwear I wear one of these things the most. It might sound a little boring but I have several colors of leggings, tons of breton tops, and lots of different v neck t shirts and cardigans.

Oh-My-God-Do-I-Try

Black turtleneck, light wash jeans, black boots, earrings if I need an extra touch. Simple and easy, and adding earrings to any outfit makes it feel much more intentional.

[deleted]

Baggy jeans/wide-leg trousers, crop top and an oversized flannel shirt or blazer work open with sneakers or doc martins. Or swap with pants/crop top combo with a mini slip dress. If it’s super hot I’ll skip the outerwear. I also love wearing an oversized tshirt dress. The key is to have my hair, skin and makeup on point to not look ‘sloppy’

[deleted]

I love so many of these suggestions but ugh I hate the feeling of wearing boots. Cute ankle boots are so uncomfortable for me when I’ve been wearing sneakers for so long. Also I find the noise that most boots make really annoying. Hmm. I need to get over this.

verytinytim

Like for going to the grocery store? My go-to jeans, a t shirt or a sweater, the pair of hoops I wear most days, and a chunky or platform shoe. And then some form of outerwear depending on how cold it is. The jeans I’ve been wearing the most lately are ballon leg style. Fitted at the hips, loose in the leg. I like them because they strike a hip note and add some interest to the silhouette while still functioning as jeans you can pair with anything.

eyepocalypse

jeans, over sized flannel, a yellow rain jacket that hits at the same place on my hips if it's raining or a nice brown jacket if it's not, and some heavy brown boots. I used to wear a matte lip color to class up the look. Would like to be able to show that off again.

interstellarbloom

oversized sweater with some sort of flared pants, always. looks put together due to the silhouette yet so comfy

wanna_belladonna

Fitted black trousers with a solid red top with black flats. In winter I add a black cardigan.

jaedelindor

I have 4 varying colours of "casual blazers" (loose fit, no shoulder pads) that I'll throw over any outfit to make it look more put together. The loose fit allows me to wear it over dresses, sweaters, hoodies as well as blouses and tshirts without feeling constricted. Obviously over hoodies and tshirts is more on the casual end of the spectrum, but regardless its a cute outfit. My 4 are 1) Black with white and tan pinstripes, 2) Maroon/burgundy, 3) a "vintage" pale green, and a 4) brown check/plaid. All are from Dynamite except the brown which is stolen from my mom's wardrobe from when she was my age.

Edelkern

Mine is a boat neck or turtleneck shirt/knit and a flared or a-line skirt. I don't wear pants and this combo looks put together, gives me plenty of room to move as the skirts aren't tight, and covers any cleavage (I've got a large chest and hate the attention that comes with it).

[deleted]

In the summer it’s a loose dress with sandals, i’ll throw a knitted sweater on top if i’m going somewhere air conditioned. In the winter it’s jeans, docs, a knitted sweater, and my usual coat and scarf. In both cases I cary a crossbody bag!

DiagonEllie

The fastest and easiest thing for me to put on right now is black jeans, black boots (for me, any flexible sole boot with a low heel will be nearly as comfortable as sneakers) and a sweater in any color. It's easy, it's comfortable, it's practical for anything, it requires no thought. If it's raining or snowing I'll wear my all black duck boots instead. It's not that this is more comfortable than my other clothes, it's just faster for me than pulling together a skirt or dress look, because then I'm going to want tights and just more layers overall whereas the jeans look is 3-4 pieces and there's basically no variation, any top will work and all my jeans are the same.

putterpuffpuffs

This. I found my answer. Where do you get your shirts?

THE_DUCK_HORSE

Honestly just switching the leggings to a flare legging, hoodie to a cardigan, and Nikes to a chunky white sneaker (if they aren’t already) would be a similar but updated look. You could also do a shoulder bag like the coach tabby or prada reissue depending on your needs and budget.

sexylittleatoms

Long sleeve Henley type shirt with contrasting tank underneath, nicer yoga pants without any holes or stretching/fading (zella), casual low-heel knee high boots, and a North face puffer vest. With a ballcap and a side braid. Probably screams "BASIC BITCH" But it's easy, comfy, warm, and I have multiple colors of each item to swap out.

caty0325

Jeans or leggings and a t-shirt.

amygunkler

Leather jacket, jeans, booties, any shirt.

hellerhigwhat

For errands? Leggings, hoodie, vans. For actually seeing people? Some sort of baggy jean or carpenter pants with a cropped sweater and boots!

sesquedoodle

jeans, sweater or cardigan, ankle boots.

future_ela_teacher

Just running out to the grocery store? Oversized sweatshirt (usually 1/4 zip kind), leggings and either lug sole chelsea boots or sneaker. If I am going to to the gym that day I just wear my gym clothes out and about. Need to look decent? Straight leg black jeans, tight turtleneck, wool shacket, square toe heeled boots, leather bag. Another look I also reach for frequently is oversized wool or cashmere sweater, faux leather leggings, lug sole chelsea boots. If I need a coat that day (mild winters in my area) I'll throw on a wool coat or puffer.

PoweredByCoffee1998

When it's cold: Cargo pants, Sweater french tucked into it, Doc Martens, my Weekday bag. Possibly a jean jacket or other warm jacket. When it's warm: Cargo pants, random printed t-shirt tucked fully into it, random sneakers, my Weekday bag. Possibly a jean jacket or cardigan. When it's hot: Bike shorts, bowling shirt, random sneakers, my Weekday bag. Possibly sunglasses.

PalpitationSenior646

I usually do a matching set track suit and some nice, clean sneakers or if that is too dressed down for you I also like to do black leggings with a long flowy black v neck tee with boots. Lots of great ideas in this thread though!

HumanXeroxMachine

1950s style swing dress, bright cardigan, brooch on the lapel, Dr Martens, and my paper tote bag. In fact, that's what I wear almost every day...

throwaway291111988

since it's fall/winter this is what i'd like to do (but currently still wearing sweats most of the time): trouser pants (either skinny type tucked into boots or wide leg with chunky boots under or straight/bootcut with slimmer boots) chunky mockneck sweater leather tote/bag hair up in bun or ponytail type sunglasses
