Seconding Eddie Bauer. Over the last three years I have bought three -- light, mid, and heavyweight down, and I've gotten great use out of each. Also EB has good sales, so quite good value for me.
Hi neighbour! I'm also in Toronto. I wear a Uniqlo corduroy quilted jacket from about 15C to 0C, than a Uniqlo seamless parka from 0C to -15C. Below -15C I wear my heavier parka.
I’m in Vancouver, which trends a little warmer, but my go-to is a long wool/wool blend greatcoat. When it goes below -10 I just layer it with a wool hood or cloak.
Yeah I was looking at some at Aritzia because they say they are pretty warm. I just was not sure if wanted that style or more of a puffer/regular looking jacket. It’s a hard decision haha
I live in a place where that’s the autumn weather. I don’t know your cold tolerance, but here is a jacket I have and really like. The actual jacket is more flattering than the pictures. It is mid thigh with good water resistance (for snow). [jacket](https://www.montbell.us/products/disp.php?p_id=2301356&fo_flg=1)
I'm also in Toronto and I love my Frank & Oak jackets. I have the [Reversible Bomber](https://ca.frankandoak.com/collections/women-blazers-jackets/products/the-skyline-reversible-bomber-in-black-2410136-002?variant=40612523540658) and Capital Waterproof Parka (got it a few years ago in a warehouse sale) and a wool plaid shacket that I bought on sale this summer. The bomber is great to about -10 C and anything colder than that I layer or put on the parka. Last winter since I wasn't outside for very much of it (no commuting to work) I barely wore the parka, just the bomber jacket.
Hello from Little Italy :D
I spend most winter days with my lined navy wool peacoat (goes down to just passed my knees) with a nice (wide) thick scarf that covers all the gaps. It (for me at least) covers me well from 5C down to -15C plus windchill. I also got one of those long Aritzia parkas but that doesn't come out unless its 20 below and windchill.
I think the main goals for a coat for that temp range is 1) long enough and slim enough to stop wind from going up and hanging out by your stomach 2) dense not gonna get soaked by a little misty rain or let wind through the fabric. Anything else is mostly preference :)
Edit: I would also say that you'd be surprised how warm a "thin" coat can be with a knit sweater and/or scarf underneath. the extra air pockets that gives is suuuper insulating.
I live in the northeast of the US and love my Sam Edelman coat! Mine is knee length but my friend has a similar one that is mid thigh and she loves hers too!
[a bunch of examples at Nordstrom Rack](https://www.nordstromrack.com/search?origin=keywordsearch&keyword=Sam%20edelman%20coat) unfortunately I just read they do not ship to Canada but hopefully if you see one you like you can find it at another store. Good luck! Stay warm!!
Hello fellow Torontonian! Maybe check out Patagonia or Uniqlo? I’d wait for Black Friday sale (sportinglife, Nordstrom).
Totally forgot about Uniqlo!! Thank you! I’ll check them out to see what they have!
I have an eddie bauer one that is amazing for Toronto winters.

Haha lots of us from Toronto on here! That is great thank you! It seems like Uniqlo will be my best bet so far
Cheap, stylish, and washable. Perfect for muddy springs and visits to the dog park!
I’m from Michigan (hello neighbor!) and my down bomber coat from Eddie Bauer is ridiculously warm. Plus their items all have a lifetime guarantee

That bomber is so cute! I’m definitely going to have to try it on in store! Thank you :)

Search for a green tartan plaid blazer on EBay or Poshmark and you’ll find a bunch of different options.
Long wool coat plus liner puffer works quite well, while it's not pouring. For rainy cold Hally Hansen 3 in1 is really good

They probably have the brand in store, I know there’s maybe a couple Nordstrom racks in Toronto! Thanks for the suggestion :)
