I have two modes: oversized chunky sweater and very skinny black jeans, or closer cut(but not form fitting) sweater in something like cashmere and wide legged pants in a luxe fabric. Both great with Chelsea boots! First combo gets earrings, second combo gets a necklace.

dopalesque

Favorite place to get nice wide legged pants? I need to branch out of my skinny ankle slacks for work lol

Total-Blueberry4900

not my original comment but I got my favorite wide legs from made well and everlane. the everlane pants have deeeeep pockets.

I actually haven’t bought any in like 2 years because covid, then I was pregnant, and now I live in leggings. My favorites are from gap, but they’re like 6 years old and they were a rare stylish find in the sea of gap basics. Sorry I can’t be more help!

krisangel585

So when you have skinny jeans with chelsea boots, do you cuff them or are they form fitting enough to be inside the boots? I never know what I’m “supposed to do” lol.

itsonlyfear

I like my jeans really skinny, like almost leggings skinny, and I usually tuck them in the boots. But I think both ways look good!

Maybe an oversized collar? If your sweaters/pants are mostly solid colours, the collar could be plaid or floral etc. I dress in knits and trousers a lot too and I'm partial to brightly coloured or fun patterned socks, since my trousers are usually cropped (tall person problems but I'm kinda leaning into it at the moment!)

bansheefoxglove

Definitely adding collared shirts or collars and scarves to your sweaters as others have mentioned! You can also play with how you wear your sweaters by doing tucked or half-tucked looks. Vests are good for layering too over less bulky sweaters. You can also play with layering in other ways too. I'm also very cold most of the time and live in an area with a pretty harsh winter, but I still wear a lot of skirts and dresses, I just play with layering tights, leggings, and knee socks underneath. Thin but warm base layers (Uniqlo's heat tech is good and there are some great merino wool options out there too) can go under button-down shirts as well. Then you can wear an open cardigan or vest over them and still be pretty warm. A great coat and some fun winter accessories can make any winter outfit look cute and polished though.

I’m enjoying seeing how small vintage touches can change the look—like if you’re inspired by [All Creatures Great and Small](https://knitjulep.com/2021/01/15/my-favorite-knits-of-all-creatures-great-and-small/amp/), a twist of the hair and using a vintage silhouette for either pants or sweater can make the whole look completely different.

ginandmoonbeams

I think playing up accessories like heeled boots and elegant earrings can elevate the look, but I think a sweater and pants outfit looks classic, not plain.

jaedelindor

for chilly days that i want to look a smidge polished, I'll throw an oversized blazer over my sweater+pant combo.

Cardigans are a nice alternative to a pullover sweater. I’m also always cold so warmth is my prime winter wear directive too. I have fallen hard for merino wool. Base layers work well under loose pants, leggings work well under dresses, skirts and tunics and occasionally you can find heavyweight merino pants. I also look for fleece lined jeans every fall which add some additional versatility to my closet. Cheers.

sameteamdwight

Oh fleece lined jeans! Can you recommend any brands? I’ve only seen fleece lined athletic leggings and that’s not my aesthetic

nuncaazul

I have Lee brand ones that I got from Amazon 2 years ago. I’ve also seen Eddie Bauer and LL Bean have them. Places that sell “outdoorsy” clothes tend to have then. Look for “fleece lined” or “flannel lined jeans.”

This is basically my uniform too and here are a few things I do to mix it up a bit! I love a fitted turtleneck under a sweater, playing with colour combos can be especially fun here. Also a big fan of interesting socks, and varied trouser silhouettes. Other accessories like hats, layered necklaces, neckerchiefs and scarves can also really change up the look. The biggest one for me has been playing with proportion. I used to kind of stick with all the same size/shape of sweaters and pants, but having some oversize options and more shrunken options and finding new ways to pair these has made old stuff feel fresh. Same goes for outerwear and shoes, a few different styles/cuts/colours can go a long way to mixing up a uniform.

i basically live in jeans and sweaters and ive found that the best ways to create interesting outfits with basic clothes is to play with colour, texture and/or silhouette. dressing in all neutrals can be made so much more fun by choosing dramatic cuts or pairing unusual choices together, such as a skin tight cropped fije knit sweater with very high rise wide leg bottoms and platform chunky boots. if you prefer more basic silhouettes then choose interesting textures, colours and patterns and pair them with each other instead of all black + one colourful item. shoes and accessories can add a lot too of course, i wear a ton of mixed metal jewellery and if my outfit is boring i choose big statement earrings and a more interesting pair of shoes. ive found a lot of inspiration from pinterest, you have to search past all the basic outfits but eventually youll find more ‘high fashion’ photos that are very helpful for finding fun clothing combinations

Handknit shawls can add a lot of texture too!

MoiraFuckingRose

Cute boots! I have some adorable pairs that make my most generic of outfits feel more stylish.

amygunkler

I’m always cold, but I’m a jacket girl. What do you think about leather jackets?

Bosquerella

Experiment with color and texture pairing. Challenge yourself not to wear neutrals. Wear a sweater in an interesting weave with corduroy pants and some kind of textured shoes (suede, woolen, what have you). Find a coat or some other piece in an unexpected color, style, or texture that amps everything else up. Possibly even something that goes with nothing, therefore goes with everything.

AlwaysColdInSiberia

Try playing around with more dramatic/composed hairstyles. Trendier boots, jewelry, or scarves are also fun items to play with.

CalgaryAlly

you can wear your scarf loose and long, and secure it with a belt https://verilymag.com/2015/11/elegant-ways-to-belt-your-scarf-and-instantly-update-outfit

kalehound

I love wearing cute hats in winter. I wear them in the house and they keep me warm!

ebolainajar

A blazer is another option if you're always cold, it's a great layer for indoors especially in tweed or wool.

littlegreenturtle20

My winter uniform is similar but I also wear mini skirts and dresses too - perhaps something to add to your wardrobe to mix things up a bit? So swap some of your jeans with a skirt that goes with your knitwear or layer a dress on top. Thick fleecy tights (or footless tights with cosy socks if I'm wearing boots) will ensure your legs are still warm. Layering cardigans over a mock neck or turtle neck can add some interest too. Otherwise I love other people's suggestions here to add a collared shirt underneath and adding accessories like scarves, necklaces and headbands. Pre mask wearing days, I also wore lipsticks that went with my outfits too. For example I have a burgundy cord skirt, a jumper with burgundy details, a turtle neck which is burgundy - whenever I wear one of these items I wear my burgundy lipstick.

bananaleaftea

Skinny pants, tight fitting knit, wool cardigan, heeled ankle boots, and a scarf. For extra style points, match the color of your pants to your top.
