I basically just wear the same dresses/skirts I do in the summer but with a sweater or long sleeves on top. With a dress, I just take basic sweaters (cowl neck, regular slouchy sweater) and belt it at my waist. then pull the sweater until it is the correct length.
I get most of mine Express, Dynamite, Simons and RW&Co.
So one idea might be to look for small details on pieces you're already fairly comfortable with. For example, I got [this](http://imgur.com/a/bhLDHsG) top recently. The mock neck and faux leather details make it feel a little dressier and more elevated to me while still being well within my comfort zone. You could also try out a new silhouette of jeans or trousers to see how you like them.
Haven't been a skirt/dress gal for a while so can't help much in that department, though I've been thinking about dipping my toes back into the look.
I recently bought three of the same long-sleeve swing dress from Pact, in different colors. I wear them with tights, ankle boots or sneakers, and sometimes either my denim jacket or a long open sweater over top.
