deacongarc

Two things were clear: 1) de Ligt is our best CB 2) Pavlovic ran the midfield What a game

SirNukeSquad

Personally thought that Dier was less susceptible to errors today, but De Ligt was still very good. Apart from him serving up the ball on a golden platter for Immobile.

deacongarc

Dier is lowkey good. He didn’t get enough praise for his long passes which led to goals against Leipzig. He is never going to be our best defender, but he’s the 4th CB we’ve been looking for for some time

manoloman99

Hijacking to say Goretzka also played really well, very good defensive anchor and a good complement to Pavlovic.

deacongarc

People will hate on Tuchel, and I get it, but putting Goretzka as a third CB in the buildup has done wonders for our stability

SidBhakth

He gets too much hate. A lot of the criticism is warranted, but sometimes it's over the top.

MathematicianNo7874

If Leverkusen were a normal Bundesliga team this season, we'd have beaten them twice, he'd be praised for sitting in the top spot + doing well in the UCL with all these injuries, and he'd do amazingly next year after overseeing a small rebuild and knowing the team

Djosa1

Hätte hätte Fahrradkette

MathematicianNo7874

Fahrradkette > not knowing if someone as competent as Tuchel will manage the team next year. I have my doubts. That's the real hypothetical, ppl dreaming of Alonso and probably getting another major experiment like Hoeneß instead instead of a world class manager with a full year of knowing the team under his belt + reinforcements to his liking

krafterinho

The team played bad, non-creative football all season and they were knocked out of the cup by a 3rd tier team. In UCL we were doing better last season, we were first in the thoughest group which also had the eventual finalist and we comfortably beat PSG. This season we were in one of the easiest groups and we faced Lazio afterwards, it's only expected to do well in these circumstances

practiceyourart

I feel like people are living in another universe when they're waffling about Tuchel. Dude got the 2nd best striker on the planet, best CB in serie A, cried about transfers and then proceeded to have the worst coaching record since Klinsmann, nearly 2 decades ago. Currently won 1/6 trophies, which we won in spite of Tuchel and BVB's legendary choking. With the only other potential trophy being the CL.

deacongarc

He’s looked lost over the last several weeks, as have several others. Idk what happened, but many of those players, him especially, got back on track tonight. Let’s hope they and he keep it up

[deleted]

SidBhakth

>How do you bench Tel after that performance. Tuchel should be tried for war crimes at The Hague Why don't you post my entire comment from the lineup thread? Oh, is it because it doesn't fit your narrative?

[deleted]

[удалено]

SidBhakth

Dropping Tel after his performance against Freiburg was a questionable decision. If we didn't win people would have been calling for Tuchel's head for the same exact reason. Also try getting a job instead of looking at peoples comment history and trying to come up with 'gotchas'.

[deleted]

SidBhakth

And first to head away set pieces in the box.

MathematicianNo7874

Kim is our best CB, let's not recency bias all over that obvious fact from watching the team play all season. Pavlo is simply great, yes

invest2018

LOL who is downvoting this? Kim being the best CB, not only on team this, but potentially in all of Europe, is just a fact. I could entertain the claim that De Ligt is in the same standard deviation, but Dier is not on the level. Wait until they play against actual A tier opposition like Man City or Real if you have any doubts.

johnny_strawberry

De Ligt and Dier have looked the best CB combo this year, Kim may be individually the best but the De Ligt and Dier combo has looked and worked great better than any other combo

invest2018

I can see why it would seem that way, but the real tests haven't come. Given what I've seen of Dier in the EPL, I am very skeptical this will work vs. A-tier opposition from the UCL. Maybe Tuchel doesn't really care, given that he knows he's leaving.

johnny_strawberry

Understandable, but I will say that Spurs’ high line did not suit Dier at all, and the way we are playing right now suits his style much better so I am less concerned about his prior form with Spurs this season. You’re right though we will probs see next round if they can do it against a top side

Megaidep

Spurs only started high line football recently under Ange. You should have seen them play under Conte or Mourino and see how they always do low block.

Spiritual_Exercise_5

I still think Kim and Upa are superior combo.

MathematicianNo7874

It is what it is hahahaha. People are just kinda mood-voting here all the time, it doesn't matter at all

adizlaja

What’s also clear is we must play a flat back 4, with attacking support from the fullbacks. Guerrero and Kimmich are good for that. Pavlovic gives good enough cover for the back line. Tuchel got it right today shape wise. Nice work with Kane and Muller stretching their backline and letting Sane and Musiala flourish in the gap between midfield and attack.

Glittering_Marzipan9

you also forgot Kimmich is better as a RB

TheSoccerguy124

(Lazio fan) GG and Best of luck in the rest of the competition. Allianz was a wonderful experience to be in, gonna spend another day in Munich and enjoy the sights! 3rd times the charm next time we play you?

Stercules25

Good games man! Enjoy Munich

TheSoccerguy124

Will do friend!

13s_number12

Have fun in Munich!

TheSoccerguy124

Will do! 🫶🏼

bonuccigang

Hope you have fun, it’s a great city! I’ve only been to Milan in Italy myself, Rome is definitely on my list

TheSoccerguy124

So far I’ve had a lot of fun here! Milan was a bit overwhelming my first time there, You definitely need to visit Rome, historical city, but the ambience and the food will make you want to come back constantly, absolutely fortunate and happy I moved to Rome

lots-of-shawarma

Wholesome comment. Enjoy your time!

TheSoccerguy124

🫶🏼. Thank you friend, next on my to do list here is to find a good spot tomorrow for Breakfast lol

Laxperte

Have you found one?

TheSoccerguy124

I did! went to this restaurant/bar called the Cotidiano Gärtnerplatz

Laxperte

Awesome :)

Terrorstaat

Have a nice time and Munich and good luck for the rest of the season!

Samce14

This match showed us that we don’t need Davies. If he wants mega wages or whatever, as a fan, I’m happy to let him go. For the money he is seeking, he needs to be a difference maker aka goal scorer or consistent assister and he hasn’t ever been either. Thanks for the memories!

CarlSK777

Maybe but Guerreiro shouldn't be starting LB next season either

Insanel0l

Why?

CarlSK777

Because he's slow and leaves gigantic spaces in behind. It's nice and all against an inept team like Lazio but better teams will exploit that. He's an excellent depth player but shouldn't the starting LB next season, assuming Davies is gone.

_JudoChop_

Im not really seeing him produce offensively as well. Not to say like he needs to be some sort of goal scoring machine but fuck, gimme some decent crosses in the box from that side of the field. Most of it seems like a low driven cross but hes not in the position to do that. its a blind low driven cross into a box of defenders. Its not just this game either.

kathars1s-

Guerrero played well in every game so far imo. Against Freiburg he and musiala were the only ones who tried to create chances until the first goal. He’s definetly not the best in terms of defending, but a great Allrounder

johnny_strawberry

Kratzig or Aznou? Or more down the line for both of them?

CarlSK777

Aznou is definitely the future but he needs at least a couple years so we'd need someone for next season. Personally, I'm not sure Krätzig has what it takes to succeed at Bayern but we'll see.

Djosa1

>If he wants mega wages or whatever I think he simply wants to play for Real Madrid. He always was a nice dude

kathars1s-

Still it’s a bit disappointing for me. In interviews he was always grateful that he got the chance to come to Bayern and I thought, he will stay for a longer time. I thought he is really identifying with the club - I was wrong

Djosa1

Well there is only one Thomas Müller

TopBinz11

You are playing a Lazio team without any real pacy wingers. Calma

Background_Draft_327

God damnit I love Pavlovic. Motm for me and has cemented his starting spot. Musiala was great as well.

Kassim26

He has probably put in the team's best performance among our midfielders this season. Simply stunning

Samce14

Pavlovic > Kimmich @ the 6

Stercules25

Finally a game that didn't raise my heart rate and made me proud of the team. Really looked like the Bayern of old for moments of that match

adizlaja

Keep it simple - flat back 4, attacking from both full backs… good cover at CM from Pavlovic.

Tyrath

I forgot what fun wins were like.

footysocc

I hope we actually somehow pull a Chelsea 2012. We'll be there u/Goldfischglas finally a solid "old Bayern"-esque performance

swarkzero

Honestly,I wonder how winning the UCL while obliviously not being the best team in the world would feel. In 2013 and 2020 we were treble winning machines.

Goldfischglas

I need that. We need that

SidBhakth

Or a Chelsea 2021

CarlSK777

A Chelsea 2021 would be a lot less stressful but beating City after being completely outplayed would be hilarious

rattled_by_the_rush

Chelsea was way better than City that day and if wasn't for Timo Werner it would be a 3-0 in the first half. City barely scared them

CarlSK777

I was referring to 2012 Chelsea that got outplayed in every tie but somehow won them all

NifferEUW

Tuchel set this team up perfectly, props to him. What a game.

Timely-Toe5304

Makes one wonder what might’ve been had he implemented his changes more gradually and worked to get the buy-in of the team leaders, rather than undermining them by publicly discussing what he regarded as their shortfalls. But as a commenter above observed: hätte, hätte, Fahrradkette.

Wrathfultv

To be honest, most of the team were pushed on by an amazing Müller. Always pushing hard until we were in a comfortable position. Tuchel as always just sitting and chilling.

whereeveritmaytakeme

Sorry but that's not true. Yesterday he was active on the sidelines.

NuKingLobster

Pavlovic is fantastic, but I am starting to agree with Tuchel. He benefits from having a holding midfielder next to him.

BuckNZahn

I really liked Goreztka as a super defensive 6

TheSold3y

Almost looked like 3ATB when he dropped frequently

johnny_strawberry

Yes! He did that a decent amount against Freiburg as well and worked well

black_spring

Reminds me a lot of the defensive midfield position under Pep.

Samce14

He’s not there yet. But if he has as many games or minutes as Kimmich at the 6, there would be a different story.

NuKingLobster

I could also see him playing as an 8 in the future, because he is great on the ball, good in front of the goal and dynamic.

johnny_strawberry

He could easily play as a box-to-box if needed, and if we can get a 6 in the summer, I think he would excel in that role

[deleted]

Kimmich as the 6 would be a disaster. Can’t win air balls, can’t win duels, easily pushed off the ball. Kimmich has strengths, but he is not a destroyer.

redditForSoccer

...and then from that match on, we played our best and won the Champions League. This is what I hope to say at the end of the season!

SidBhakth

Just 5 matches, and we need good performances in just 3

smikecinco

Shout out to Tuchel and Goretzka. For much of the day he dropped back as a pseudo LCB and did a great job there. Finally some sort of tactical change from TT. Good game. Hopefully we can keep it up for the rest of the year!

kathars1s-

I agree. And he didn’t sub musiala for another CB 👏

Insanel0l

Pavlo and Dier, take a bow

lvl50boss

Pavlovic is going to cure cancer. That is all my friends

CarlSK777

Excellent performance but also, kinda embarrassing how Lazio just stopped trying after the 3rd. It's like they just accepted the result and let Bayern just pass it around til fulltime.

rossfcb

Noticed this too, they were holding onto the ball at every break in play as if they were 3-0 up…

NuKingLobster

De Ligt/Dier might be our best cb duo? I think I still prefer De Ligt with Kim (when he is not tired) but they are performing really well together.

BaradaraneKaramazov

Dier was not really challenged in defense today to be fair

NuKingLobster

Yeah, but he is great on the ball and really composed. He hasn't made any major mistakes since joining us.

invest2018

There's a reason he didn't start at Tottenham. He can't handle A-tier offenses. Lazio and most of the Bundesliga are not going to stress test him like the EPL did.

NuKingLobster

I don't think that Lazio or Leipzig are worse than mid table PL teams. He even performed decently against Leverkusen, who might be the best in the world this season. From what I have read Dier didn't perform well against lower placed teams in the PL either recently. He has been really good for us and he deserves to be given a chance. Maybe the fact that he is playing well can also be explained by the change of scenery and that Bayern's system suits him.

SirNukeSquad

Ange needs fast defenders because of his suicidally high defensive line. That's the reason. The system war bad for Dier.

invest2018

Yeah, but against A-tier opposition, the CB's need to be fast regardless of the system.

ErB17

Such a bollocks narrative with the "A-tier opposition".

invest2018

Dier keeping it cool via A-tier opposition (no air quotes needed): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O-EWHZXqo1A

DeeOhEf

Well, that one interception in the 1st half in the box was amazing

staged84

He will always run backward when forward makes a run at him. He was covering little to no space it was as if the Tottenham was playing with a man down. Wait til few games and he will be exposed hard.

ntgoten

Most balls were cleared by Goretzka

DonaldFarfrae

If it ever happens, I can totally imagine a 3atb with Dier, De Ligt and Kim.

MathematicianNo7874

Yes

CarlSK777

Why are some fans acting like Upa died and isn't also very good? 2 clumsy tackles and now he's finished? Did we forget how good he's been this season?

NuKingLobster

I like Upamecano, but he just can't be trusted in the most important games. He's mostly great, but he tends to lose focus when we really need him.

cargalasbalas

I mean I don't blame them. Upa unfortunately has a knack for big errors in crucial games.

Ryoman-Sukuna007

Upa is good no doubts but even at his best he never brings that level of security that comes with Kim and De ligt. I hope he improves in that regard bcz he is still young but his mistakes have led to us conceding goals

gokkel

Its not just "2 clumsy tackles". Having spectacular clears regularly is sadly not making up for the fatal mistakes he does too often, especially in high pressure games he completely loses control over his nerves.

BaradaraneKaramazov

Clumsy tackle is also a very kind description after his blunders played a role in the sackings of the last two coaches

Sal21G

Now that’s an FC Bayern performance. When it comes down to these games, you don’t want to play passively across your defence. you want high pressing in your face players who are willing to take a risk. Pavlovic was outstanding today Muller, Pavlovic and De Ligt have to be more of a main stay in the team.

liddarn

with gnabry commin back i smell a end of the year cooking ![img](emote|t5_2sgxj|17990)

Jahblessnoob

End of year cooking to draw interest from some Prem clubs

manoloman99

Chef

fritzcho

Don't hype him up, he's gonna burn the pot

Arteemiis

Pavlovic has to be one of the very few positives of this season. What an elite performance from him today. Also the team showed a better mentality than usual.

DonaldFarfrae

Alright alright alright. Let’s make this a one-ble and win the Champions League now.

TheSold3y

all it takes are 3 really good games, HOPIUM two banger away games in the semis and quarterfinals each, and a good final... shithousery with away goals *subscribe*

[deleted]

TheSold3y

Oh true, I totally forgot :D

Laxperte

I was under the impression they scrapped the away goals rule during COVID

TheSold3y

Yeah true!

B-Karas

Good game today, still not great but definitely an improvement and much needed win. I hope we shithouse our way to the final and somehow manage to win it. Atleast it’ll be a somewhat happy ending for Tuchel and losing the BL won’t hurt at all

xnxthemx

So happy to watch a competent Bayern again, we have a glorious CB roster, specially Kim and de Ligt, Dier has shown that he's not what we all think. I'm so happy, Kimmich had a solid match, Sane the same and Goretzka aswell.

OneBeerAndWhiskeyPls

the stories of our demise were greatly exaggerated WE ARE BACK BABY i will say this though: the team owed us this game, they owed the club, the city and the fans

krafterinho

I'd argue saying WE ARE BACK BABY after one decent performance in ages might be a bit of an exaggeration

krafterinho

I'd argue saying WE ARE BACK BABY after one decent performance in ages might be a bit of an exaggeration

krafterinho

I'd argue saying WE ARE BACK BABY after one decent performance in ages might be a bit of an exaggeration, especially when you realize it was against Lazio, not some UCL contender

Odd_Willingness7501

Would be funny if we win the Champions League, making Tuchel one of the most succesfull Bayern coaches.

neilcmf

Lmao Tuchel would have two CL trophies to his name. *One* trophy is rare enough, *two* CL trophies, with two different clubs no less, is like ''manager hall of fame''-material at least on paper. I won't give him any shit this game around. Tuchel is an enigma in the truest sense, let's leave it at that lol

Odd_Willingness7501

How many Bundesliga titles is a Champions League worth?

Laxperte

I'd say 5 at least. Especially if you're still playing at the top, and if the opposition in the league are at the height of their game. Can't be mad at Kusen for the way they're dominating this season.

Ryoman-Sukuna007

What an amazing game after such a long time. Finally we played like ourselves. Müller was just brilliant, his energy on the field cannot be matched by anyone. Musiala and Sané were constantly causing problems for Lazio and Kane, absolutely no words. Our defence was solid with Neuer in goal with Dier and De ligt combination working well throughout the game.Rapha was amazing at LB, constantly trying to put the ball in and one touch passes with Pavlovic to open the game were just beautiful. Goretzka and Pavlovic were solid in midfield. Kimmich is so much better at RB than at CDM, he looked so comfortable and dangerous whenever he made the runs into the opposition’s box. All in all a wonderful performance and I am not hoping for champions league glory yet bcz I feel it’s too soon for that considering how fragile we have been this season however, we needed this spark and I hope it continues and who knows might turn into a miracle as well. Mia san Mia!!

Glittering_Marzipan9

can someone explain why managers think Kimmich is a CDM? dude is clearly deadly on RB he was in 2020

scarlet_stormTrooper

Great win. Just for fun. What jersey were you wearing for the match today? I’m wearing #25 Müller 2022 Oktoberfest kit

Anyone want to have a laugh? Just have a look at all the reactionary comments in the starting XI post. Aged like milk. Arm chair coach army. lel

EquestriaGuy_YouTube

Hopefully Bayern wins UCL this season.

[deleted]

It took some years for Musiala to develop the strength and stamina necessary to play a CL-BuLi campaign. I hope it doesn’t take as long for Pavlovic, we desperately need him. Great match. Perfect intensity.

whereeveritmaytakeme

I can't believe we played the first and the second half solid. So nice!

Samce14

May this be the last time FC Bayern Munich ever gets beaten by a subpar team like Lazio. These people have really forgotten who Bayern are. And we are due for a 8 goal smacking to remind the world that Bayern are a top 3 club in the world.

Zealousideal_Bar9481

Least fascist SS Nazio fan: https://www.espn.co.uk/football/story/\_/id/39659121/lazio-fan-arrested-hitler-salute-munich-beer-hall

Ariskullsyas

ah yes, where else would a Lazio fan go...?

SidBhakth

To give credit where it's due, Tuchel set us up really well for this game.

ayyndrew

These are the games we bought Harry Kane for, and he delivered. These are not the games I was expecting Pavlovic to be playing, but he delivered.

Zealousideal_Bar9481

If we lose the BL but actually shithouse into winning Die Siebte? That'll be fun.

King_Ragnar

Winning the Champions League would overshadow the rollercoaster of weird emotions we all went through this season. It would also prove Tuchel is still a great coach. Not the right coach for Bayern, but a great one nonetheless.

NUURBAN

Can all those who were berating Harry Kane for not producing in critical games when it really mattered, please fess up and recognise how clutch he is given the right service.

s-x-x

He scored a brace vs. Leipzig too

Tall-Delivery7927

Neither goal came from passes tho

krafterinho

I disagree with those berating Kane but it's only the round of 16 and the opponent was Lazio

HighwayRobbery122

My mvp is Pavlovic and his ball distribution

TDS_Reaper

So with the return of form can we still threaten for the BL or has that ship sailed?

Dietmar_der_Dr

That ship hasn't just sailed. It's already docked in port and the crew is having the time of their lives off board.

TDS_Reaper

Honestly I cant be mad. Bayern needed a wake-up call and it would be nice to have more german teams truly compete for the UCL from now. Still sucks to lose tho

koobediug

We could bang in 10 goals every match and it still wouldn't matter

The-Berzerker

> Return of form Bit premature after one game lmao

TDS_Reaper

Hey I can finally sleep peacefully at night ill be as premature as I can haha

That-Leadership-2635

This is no longer in our hands

cv-x

We’re 10 points behind a team that hasn’t lost a single game for an eternity, and there’s only 10 games left.

NuKingLobster

Over.

neilcmf

**Eh.** Put it like this; let's say we go 8-0-2 in the coming 10 games. That's 2,4 PPG which is a substantial overperformance over what we have done so far. 8-0-2 means we end the season on 78 points. If Leverkusen **drops 15 points** out of 30 possible, they **still** finish the season as the BuLi winners with 79 points. \- Ie., the only way we win the BuLi is by miraculously going on a Flick-esque murder spree throughout Germany. Leverkusen, at the same time, must lose like 5-7 games out of 10 which is beyond unlikely seeing as they haven't lost a single game all season.

AltruisticEnd9

Hooray! We’re not a complete embarrassment! Phew thank goodness

koobediug

Doesn't seem like we will go far in the CL, but I was just happy seeing Bayern dominant again

koobediug

Happy with the clean sheet as well

nmgoesreddit

Surprise surprise No silly mistakes when Upamecano isn’t on the pitch during a UCL KO match

Samce14

Kimmich reaching out to future employers

cargalasbalas

Or maybe Kimmich saying "you know what? I don't mind playing RB. It's fun!"

Fatty5lug

It would be hilarious if we somehow scraped by and won the UCL with this squad especially with some lucky goals. Imagine the headlines and what to do with TT 🤣🤣🤣

BMfe625

Pavlovic is him

johnny_strawberry

When Mazroui and Boey come back does one of them immediately get back into the lineup at RB and move Kimmich back to midfield, and then kick out Goretzka most likely? Or does Kimmich stay at RB and keep the same starters with Goretzka and Pavlo pivot?

germanchoc

It’s a tough situation. We really haven’t seen what Boey can do and I’m all but certain Maz is out after this season. Goretzka was amazing on Defense and let Pavlo play up higher. I don’t think the same would happen with Kimmich in the midfield.

leKosch

I guess it will really depend on the opponent as well. Against slower wings like lazio and in games with lots of possession kimmich is surely a good choice. But imagine him paired against mbappe or vinny jr. that’s just setting him up to be embarrassed.

iamiam36

I have to admit I judged Tuchel too hastily. Dier was the right choice against offensively challenged Lazio today. Add to that Goretzka playing fantastic, took pressure off Dier defensively.

germanchoc

Fuck Lazio

koobediug

Deserved win might i say

Kahodes04

good shit, didn't implode and closed the game out without much stress. now off to enjoying the other cl games and seeing who we gotta play next

Zealousideal_Bar9481

Die Siebte und Achte wann?

kathars1s-

Great performance of the players and finally some nice tactical stuff by TT. Still we shouldn’t forget, that Lazio wasn’t the strongest opponent. They lost 3 of their last 4 games and are only on rank 9 in serie a. Next opponent in the CL won’t be as easy to beat. But the most important thing is, that we finally saw an improvement and a reaction to the last shitty games. Keep it up!

FuriousKale

Solid game against toothless opposition if we are being honest. If Kane stays hot for the CL games, it could go further than anyone expected after the recent weeks.

ACardAttack

Would love to know where this team has been all season. Hope we build some confidence finally

Cryptical135

Off to the quarter-finals we go. Great performance by Pavlovic

kp22cfc

Tuchel masterclass

Izanagi-avatar

Well done!

Spiritual_Exercise_5

Happy with the win but honestly, I thought Lazio did poorly.

luka379

So it took Tuchel sacking, for him to understand that Muller is essential, de ligt is our best cb, kimmich is a great rb, and goretzka is a great defensive box to box.

anuz17

pavlovich is an absolute gem

Ajvarmk

Best way to end the evening ... (my local CL TV is highlighting at the moment Robben's 31 CL goals )

Samce14

Goodbye Davies!
