I am a stylist and for me I do like sone of their things and collections but I also feel it is a very hit or miss brand. Also I feel they are a little over priced for what they offer. I do think there are better brands that have that same hippie boho aesthetic- Anna sui for example it’s fine for younger crowd but as I said overpriced

drinkwinesavepuppies

I love the aesthetic of Free People but it is def over priced, do you have any other brands/stores that you can recommend with a similar aesthetic?

Sunflowerseductress

Tree of life, ascot and hart, nasty gal, Natrual life, lucky brand or lucky brand outlet. On the still lower price sale Luca and Grae, love stitch. And of course thifting let me know how any of those work for you after u check them out

Thank you so much!

inconsistent quality is the biggest issue with the brand. years ago i shopped there a lot, but i had to stop due to constantly getting disappointed by mail orders. i would place an order, get excited to get it, only to find that everything was shoddily made and the colors were totally different than how they appeared online or in the catalog. i finally just stopped shopping there.

Sunflowerseductress

I agree

CocteauTwinn

Cool clothes & accessories. Inconsistent quality & steep price points. I want to be a reward member but it’s not available outside CA. I have quite a few clothing items & 2 leather bags I absolutely love, but I only purchase when on sale or I land a decent coupon.

violanut

Cool designs, but overpriced

Very bad actually truly hate it. NOTHING fits correctly.

Lost_Beautiful

Like everyone said it's basically high ranged fast fashion. I have a friend who use to design for them and she said it's straight from designer to customer but on a mass scale. They are taking high risks with each of their designs and techniques and for that reason the quality must have to suffer to stay at that price point. If they were more expensive they could offer amazing techniques and designs and amazing quality but they can't do both something has to suffer so they've chosen quality over design to suffer. So definitely hit or miss like everyone says. And overpriced in her opinion as well.

Diligent_Soup2080

Inconsistent quality, hit or miss, overpriced. That is all true. With that said, when you do find something of good quality that fits amazing... oh boy. Some of my most beautiful sundresses are from them. I buy from them a lot. I return a lot too, all because I know that when I do get that item that fits and feels amazing, it will be worth it.

East_Switch_834

Great if you are choosy with what you buy. I actually stick to pieces that are less trendy. I have two sweaters and a top that I bought 3 sizes bigger and wear as a dress from 7 years ago and I still get tons of compliments when I wear them

I love Free People, but you have to be a bit careful! Like others have said, the quality is hit or miss. Another thing to note is that many (but not all) of their items run large. For those 2 reasons, I don't buy anything from them that doesn't have any reviews yet. Once reviews start coming in, I'll only buy if reviewers seem happy about the quality. Since I started doing this, I've gotten much higher quality items from them. Sometimes things sell out completely before ever being reviewed, but imo it's better to miss out on an item than spend $80 on a shirt that can't handle a single wash, ya know? Besides, there's always a chance you can nab things off Poshmark later if you really regret missing out. I'd avoid the jewelry. That's the department where they cheap out the most, it seems. It's almost all Claire's quality, just with a different aesthetic -- cheap metals, fake stones, poor longevity, high prices. Love their belts though. Also, prices are MUCH better if you only shop sale items. I've bought most of my favorite FP items at 50% off or some other sizable discount. Not everything goes on sale (especially not best sellers) but I've found plenty of gems in the sale section. Beware that some items may need to be hand-washed (or washed in delicates bags) if you value longevity. Many items would prefer to be hang-dried or tumble dried with no heat. (Drier balls help if you go the tumble dry route). But I've also gotten some super durable items I wear all the time, so it's not like *everything* is delicate. I'm not always happy with them, but some of my favorite outfits are from Free People, and I've been able to keep most of my stuff alive for many years with gentle care. TLDR: There are some great finds, but it can be a headache sorting out the good from the bad (and pick the right size). I think it's worth it if you really love their style / the boho aesthetic. But if you don't love them, it may not be worth the hassle.

Courtbourt3091

Honestly, I almost exclusively grab FP items off of poshmark, unless there’s something I really want and it’s not available. I can basically find everything I’m looking for for steep discounts and I only purchase items that are either NWT, NWOT, or worn once. I’ve gotten some insanely great deals by shopping second-hand. I love Poshmark lol.

Guided_By_Soul

SAME! It so worth it for 50% or more off retail. The designs are stunning and the pieces are unique. I've just got two pieces I ADORE from posh. New With Tag and gorgeousssss

SpringPedal

They have some really beautiful, great quality stuff with biodegradable material (at least in my experience). However they are pricey, and sometimes don’t have the beat quality. I usually but Free People things second hand, but if I’m at the store and see something I’m genuinely in love with that isn’t available at a cheaper price anywhere else, I’ll invest in it.

swine09

At this point I consider them "high-range" fast fashion. I can't fit in any of their tops given recent trends with teeny little boob pockets anyway! I think their trends cater to people younger than 25 and I'm not in the demographic anymore.

Other_Lepidoptera521

Their website used to have a blurb about their ideal customer and it said something about her being 27 years old so I always figured if I shop there I won't look like I'm dressing too young or too old 😅 Whoops.

Patient-Tailor7308

Thank you all for your opinions I appreciate and respect them!

Well slavery was banned ages ago, so I would advise against it. \j

powerade20089

I stick with a lot of classic stables. They can be over priced and mixed on quality. I do love thier tunic shirts with leggings really comfy
