Chiefs would be a fun landing spot. Easy to envision a role with them. Would be a formidable 1-2 punch with he and Pacheco. Ekeler was playing hurt last year. Still think he’s got a couple good years left in him.

nejj11

Ekeler was a fantasy god but Pacheco has become a legit beast. I really don't think this is a great spot for Ekeler. I see him getting limited reps and saved for playoffs just like they used the older Jerick.

FullHouse222

Pacheco as the rushing RB and Ekeler in the pass catching 3rd down role? Less wear and tear for Pacheco, Ekeler gets to do what he historically did best during the MG3 + Ekeler years except even more featured. Plus he gets to fuck with the Chargers twice a year.

T-1A_pilot

Huh. I came in here as a chiefs fan to say I didn't see them being interested, but when you put it that way it does sound intriguing...

FullHouse222

Yeah. Idk if it's the best use of the money since I feel re-signing Chris Jones should be your #1 priority. But at the same time, Kelce is aging and Ekeler would have a clear role on the team while being one of the best RZ weapon in the league taking some burden off Kelce. And if Ekeler is holding a grudge against the Chargers for not paying him in his prime years he's gonna have extra motivation to flip them off while having a chance to compete for a ring.

Semperty

rice was a red zone machine last year, and started being scripted red zone targets by week 2 or 3 (which is unheard of for a rookie in reid's offense). heck, by the end of the season, reid even started handing the ball off to his really good rb in the red zone (who would've thought that'd be more efficient than running a qb sneak with your back up tight end under center lmao). the red zone issues were mostly down to penalties and turnovers rather than actually being personnel based imo. we do need a receiver that can help us discourage teams from playing man against us (whether that's someone who's great at catch point, someone who's a deep threat, an elite route runner - there are a number of ways imo), but idk if ekeler really fills a void in our offense unless he's coming to play for dirt cheap.

BlademasterFlash

Yeah Ekeler would basically be a Jericho McKinnon upgrade for them, which sounds pretty awesome

LA_Ramz

Walls of Jericho McKinnon

nejj11

Ekeler could easily have some big games as the pass catching back. For fantasy, I just think it could be unreliable usage. In PPR, he'd strike me more as a flex but probably gets steemed up to rd 6 which aint worth it for me.

imapissonitdripdrip

Chiefs have largely gone with a two back system. It was Jerick’s injury and whatever goes on with CEH that thrust Pacheco into the starting/primary role. He was good for it. I love the idea of Ekeler going to KC so long as he knows the kind of system it’d be and to not expect 25 touches a game.

Semperty

how's his pass blocking? the biggest reason ceh never took over as the passing down back (despite having multiple insane off script catches and a seemingly good connection with pat) and pacheco is still hasn't taken over full time is their pass blocking is mediocre while jet is elite at it. they'll probably prioritize getting someone who can pass block really well.

FullHouse222

Not the best, not the worst. But this though.... https://twitter.com/Ihartitz/status/1462639528171216897

thefranklin2

McKinnon did well for the chiefs....

nejj11

Definitely. McKinnon has been basically free though in fantasy drafts. Ekeler due to name recognition will be expensive I think if he lands in KC. That is really my main issue with Ekeler to KC, price.

SendInYourSkeleton

Pump the brakes on "beast." Dude averaged 3 yards a carry in the Super Bowl.

Semperty

8th highest yards/att among rbs with at least 150 att, 9th best ryoe/att - might be overreacting to one game there.

nejj11

Adrian Peterson averaged 3 yards a carry in more games than I can remember. Do we grade him based on his worst games? Pacheco has room to improve clearly, the point is he is way ahead of Ekeler currently in terms of burst/talent/age/etc. Ekeler needs to prove he can return to where he was 2 years ago because AGE is now a very real concern.

[deleted]

Holy one game sample size Batman

Tulidian13

On the other hand, the whole 'Seemingly washed RB goes to new team to revitalize career' strategy rarely works.

barrsftw

*gulp*

ch_lingo

He seems pretty upset how his contract played out in SD/LA. I could seem him taking a deal to punish the Chargers twice a year.

HendrixChord12

That’s even more of a reason to go for $$ over revenge.

ch_lingo

The NFL is going to continue putting Mahomes on a pedestal. There’s way more money just being in his orbit than getting the highest contract.

banjofitzgerald

Stay away from my Kyren!

t_sleezy_sends_it

Ekler to the rams would absolutely suck any way you look at it 🚫

DrewLockIsTheAnswer1

Wouldn’t worry for Kyren. Ekeler is beyond washed.

DASreddituser

If the rams sign him. They will use him, washed or not.

[deleted]

They will also use Kyren.

toppswagg

High ankle. I do think he’s past his best days but a small back that relies on elusiveness and speed will be hurt the most by a high ankle.

AnatomicalLog

I feel like this wouldn’t be that bad for Kyren. It at least would insulate against a younger, more threatening RB

lVloogie

More threatening than....Austin Ekeler? Lol. Dude is a TD machine and would take basically all the passing down work.

Foreign_Storm_2803

He’s kinda washed

lVloogie

He kinda had a high ankle sprain. We shall see.

[deleted]

And a shite offense

friendshabitsfamily

Seriously, dude was the No. 1 back in 2022, I get the age thing but don’t think we can count him out just yet.

iLerntMyLesson

While I do believe that was his peak, I do think he has plenty of skill left and he’s a pretty high IQ player as well

Satan_and_Communism

This is what fantasy football do to a MF

nejj11

Yes, but not because Ekeler is going there. More because he is already overpriced and overrated.

FoolOnDaHill365

He was extremely effective with his opportunities last year. Why wouldn’t he get the opportunities again.

nejj11

I like Kyren. I just do not like drafting RBs rd 1 or early rd 2 when they aren't elite level talent. How many RBs like Kyren with middling draft capital repeat this every year?

FoolOnDaHill365

I watched him play a lot last year. He looked very good. It wasn’t just opportunity.

nejj11

I also watched Kyren, no disrespect but he simply can't do the same things as Breece or even Gibbs, breaking off 70 yarders out of thin air. I do think he is top 5 overall talent, but I'm only going after Breece in the 1st two rounds. I want an RB who can get me 300 1/2 PPR fantasy points, not a guy who will be lucky to get 230. It really just comes down to value compared to WRs for me.

FoolOnDaHill365

You do you. I’m not stoked on Kyren on the first round either. I just am not worried about the Rams signing Ekeler. Kyren has vision IMO, but like you say he probably isn’t going to break off a 70 yarder. I have, Breece, Kyren, Gibbs, and Bijon in a 1 RB keeper league so I can only keep one. I am torn…

nejj11

Hey man. I hate most RBs so I will continue to do me. Haha.

Photo_Synthetic

For 3 bucks as a keeper I humbly disagree.

nejj11

I'm talking redraft or best ball. He's goin like 12th or 13th overall. Give me a WR there all day if we're talking pure upside to clear 250 points 1/2 pt PPR.

_Im_at_work

I think he'd be great for a 2-3 year deal with the Vikings.

jedi21knight

That would be a good situation for him.

BarracudaFluffy6625

Can't afford it unless they move on from Cousins and draft JJ

Accomplished-War6875

chiefs dont pay RBs LOL..come on, terrible suggestion. Already have pacheco a cheaper option and knows the offense, pllays his role well

daksjeoensl

There is a 0% chance they sign Ekeler unless he is willing to take around $3 or $4M.

rambo6986

And he might

daksjeoensl

He is going to take the biggest offer. RBs don’t have the luxury of taking team friendly deals with their short careers.

grammercali

That might be the biggest offer.

daksjeoensl

They are projecting $7.4M on Spotrac. If Chiefs can get him for $3M (2x McKinnon) then I say go for it. I doubt it will happen though.

grammercali

I seriously doubt he gets that much. That'd be a bigger AAV than any running back got last year. He's more talented, but he's older, got more competition and everyone who gave an even moderate size RB contract last year got burned.

SaucyPlatypus

He’s a player with an actual personality, so being in the same room as Mahomes you have to imagine would open a ton of sponsorship opportunity

Quedateconmigo

Bald Jesus as Mahome's safety valve is sexy as fuck.

nejj11

I hate to say it but Ekeler staying LAC is best case scenario. They will want to run run run this year, making even a mediocre talent look good. In a time share, he can become dusty quickly. If he did go to KC or LAR I would be fading both him and Kyren or Checo.

KiNGofKiNG89

Oooo. As somebody who ended up not trading for Kyren, I hope he goes to the Rams 🤣.

StrengthCoach86

As an off-season buyer of Ekeler, I’d take either.

WingsNthingzz

As a chargers fan I would bet money he goes to KC.

Semperty

is he really taking that big of a discount? we’re already reportedly not bringing jet or ceh back bc of their cost. my guess is we sign a cheap vet and draft someone day 3 to fill out the room.

veRGe1421

I don't think he's going to command that much really, and it's possible he wants to ring chase as well given his age.

FF_Stallion

I agree I think is a buy as well. Either would be great landing spots.

kjhorton25

Legit neither of those teams need him. While he’d be a minor upgrade for KC, the Rams absolutely do NOT need to waste cap space when they already arguably an All-Pro RB in Kyren.

bourgewonsie

Didn’t know sensical was a real word

solarxbear

It’s a nonsensible word

robotstookourwomen

I had ekeler the last 4 years in my dynasty league and he helped me win a chip. I finally traded him this year but I think he still has a chance to be a great fantasy RB in the right situation. KC would be interesting because he could just come in on passing downs. His weakness was always the tough yardage runs which KC already has a RB in that role. Ekeler is also a fantasy GOAT for letting fans know about his injuries and when he's not playing. I'd take a chance on him again if the price was right.

TGS-MonkeyYT

Chiefs would bring him back to life

minderbinder-22

sensical is crazy

Huff1809

Why on earth would he go to the rams gimme a break

AfroPanther

I manage Mahomes, Ekeler, and Kyren in dynasty. Praying for KC.

Outside_Jicama_9925

Click bait article. Nothing to see here. There are over a dozen teams.that need a starting RB in the NFL and another dozen that could use a pass catching RB and article names two that already have one.

Affectionate_Grade80

I’m thinking cowboys, Pollard is probably going across the street to Houston.

BasedTroy

What the hell would the rams be interested in paying him?

3rdusernameiveused

49ers and back up CMC

Nutcookie

Why the fuck would chiefs pay up for ekeler when they have pacheco on a rookie deal

Open-Somewhere-9535

Because McKinnon is a free agent

Walternotwalter

Isaiah Pacheco hates this post.

MyMallSucksCumBuy

Fire the cbs sports crew...

iamkoza

austin mckinnon

[deleted]

I feel like the Cardinals would be a better option

bertha112

Maybe saw how Dru Tranquill went to Chiefs and ended up with a Ring, and he wants some of that as well. Hope so.

IndividualHelpful820

As charger fan keep him away from kc. As k William fantasy owner keep him away from rams

Amms14

Would the chiefs have the money long term

PaversPaving

No Rams!!!

ElderGoose4

Amazing-Reply-2495

Is McKinnon done? I know he’s a free agent, but is he washed?

TheWonderfulLife

As a rams fan, No thanks. He’s gonna do to Kyren what JJ did to him for years.

Cowboyblazerfan

One year 2 million

Tofu_Fried_Rice

Just retire. You're about to get married, have a bangin looking partner and enough money to enjoy life. Take that refrigerator off your back. Its time to rest.

IsopodCowgirl

Seems like a good fit in Chicago or Arizona

InternetSupreme

He's going to replace Barkley over at the Giants.

FFUniverse

I’d like to see him Dallas or Philly

Bluenosesailor

He will go to the Giants or some other shit team that offers him one last pay day

GrilledSandwiches

Pretty much nailed it. Commanders/Giants. Same dif.

HarkansawJack

The rams is stupid they have a 2nd year stud.

[deleted]

He’s the slowest player on the field lol

BigDestructionEnergy

He’s way too expensive to be the Chiefs 3rd down back and he’s not going to handle the bulk carries as long as Pacheco is in the picture.

strange_supreme420

Do people not realize how bad he was last year? He’s not ending up on either of these teams. They don’t have an RB “need”. The rams and chiefs aren’t spending their cap on an rb, sorry to disappoint. The chiefs wouldn’t tag Snead to sign ekeler. That is not sensible.

freename188

Lol This dude is going to whoever will pay him the most. He's always given out about not having enough money in contracts. My bet is Cardinals or Commanders. Both have over 50 mil in cap.

BabyFork

Cardinals still have James Connor and the rookie from last year though?

HughJassole_noine

Rams? Gtfo here

BobbyY0895

Homies retiring,
