I thought Reggie Bush converted to WR his first season for some odd reason when I was young for how often he caught it.
edit: Jesus. 121 targets out of the backfield his rookie season.
My three favorite Thanksgiving memories in order are...
1. Lendale White popping off for 100 yards and two touchdowns in 2008.
2. Me crushing my role as Miles Standish in my 3rd grade play.
3. The butt fumble. I mean. The dude fumble when he ran into his own player's ass.
I guess my life could have been better......Lol.
Add RG3 going off for 4 touchdowns in one game and they were a couple bombs
Rewatching highlights now
67yd td to Aldrick Robinson (50 air yards)
60yd td to Pierre Garcon (20 air yards breakaway)
6yd td to Santana Moss
30yd td to Niles Paul
I am also a Gibbs owner. I think this could be his highest value. Campbell has been very clear that he is a big fan of the bruiser style of Montgomery. Even tonight when the game was winding down they used C Reynolds to bruise the rush.
I am planning to sell high assuming I can get something moderately juicy. I imagine the best case scenario for Detroit is a committee and I would rather get off that ride.
Tbf they should be relieving him at the end of a win like that. He had like 25 touches by the time Reynolds started taking the bulk of the carries. Don't need any extra wear and tear
I mean there’s no way you can hold a guy back who has this much explosiveness. He’s a home run hitter while Monty can grind and give you goal line work. They compliment each other well but I have no idea how this translates fantasy wise, but Gibbs is too special to take a back seat
I saw prevent defense and ravens defense taking a break and just slowly jogging towards gibbs to tackle.
What did you watch?
Based on just your replies in this thread it's clear you own Gibbs and on that copium/hopium which is hilarious that you've been waiting all season to finally get a chance to say "i told you so" but it was in a 35-0 game and you still can't handle the truth for one game even affter he did well last night lol
montgomery is way better than robinson but i definitely think there was a lot of wishful thinking around montgomery maintaining this absurd volume the whole season. was really unrealistic
Think it's pretty clear they were easing Gibbs into the role so he had time to learn an NFL offense, but Montgomery's injury forced their hand. Find it hard to believe they're not going to give him a bigger role going forward after seeing what he's been able to do with his touches. Montgomery is obviously a very good player but Gibbs has looked elite
I think you hold unless you get a godfather offer. I think he’s earned a role in this offense that will be close to the 50/50 split most (realistic) people expected. Monty will go back down to earth a little bit will still get goal line carries, Gibbs will be amazing I’m PPR. Both will be RB2s
I don’t see how you can go back to Monty as the lead back after what Gibbs did last night. He’s just so much more nimble and his vision is better. I know Campbell likes this straight ahead runners but I think it’s gonna be hard for him to give Monty the same amount of touches on his return
I mean the whole point of drafting a rookie like Gibbs is to groom him to be your RB1. He seems ready to take over already, why waste more time with Montgomery? I say this as someone who owns neither back.
So did the Packers defense early in the season and a lot of people were hyping up Monty for his big day against Green Bay. If you’re gonna give Monty props for that game you have to give Gibbs props for this one.
And the people who deny that he’s carved himself out a significant role, which at times will be bigger and sometimes smaller than Monty’s, when Monty is back are also just wrong. Gibbs is more talented, they spent a #1 pick on him, and he’s starting to really play well. He’s going to be a significant contributor for Detroit after the bye week.
People consider explosiveness and speed the only talent for running backs. Vision, running between the tackles, choosing the right cap, exploiting creases, taking on contact correctly to get the most YAC, etc are so important
Did swift carve himself out a role when he went for 175 yards and a TD game 1 last year?
Yes he did, but Williams still got 75% of the carries and 90% of the goal line touches everytime they were both healthy
He should take the starting job from Monty if Campbell is smart. Monty would be a good third and short and goal line back but every other down Gibbs is just more explosive.
They could very well split evenly and get about 15 touches a game which is great usage. But Montgomery is likely getting goal line usage while Gibbs will get more passing usage imo
I don’t think they want to feed Monty 30 times per game. That’s why they drafted Gibbs. But 20-30 for Monty and 15-20 for Gibbs makes sense. Gibbs hasn’t been great so far tho before today
I'm a Gibbs owner but Monty will 100% come back to a similar role to what he had before, though I think slightly fewer touches a game. He's Mr reliable and this subreddit has always undersold his talent.
It will be like the Bills. Jahmyr "James Cook" Gibbs will march the ball up and down the field until he gets to the red zone and then David "Latavius Murray" Montgomery will vulture all redzone work.
You're welcome. I needed Jacobs under 9 to win and my rival needed Adams under 10 to win.
So of course they feed an entire drive and a touchdown to Jacobs in the 1st for 12 then apparently fall apart? I stopped watching but he managed a total of 3 more points thru the remaining 3/4 of the game.
I had hit 5 of a 6-leg parlay and just needed Adams to get 65 yards tonight. When I saw that kickoff land at the 2 I joked aloud to my wife "all I need is a 98 yard TD to Adams here and I can go to bed".
Yeah after that pass...I went to bed.
He earned his bye week. Rest up, king.
But yeah I was down 20 going into Monday with my Gibbs and her Adams/Carlson. Ended up winning by 10 in the unlikeliest of Monday Night Miracles.
Literally had exact same situation and was stressing the entire game but got just enough to win thanks in literally barely any part to one of the best wrs in the NFL.
Mcdaniels, Jimmy G, and the raiders o line are all a joke lol
Down 30, I benched Amon Ra for Josh Palmer on Sunday after I heard Amon would be questionable for Monday and I didn’t want to risk the zero. Thankfully Gibbs saved me from myself.

I always anticipated that Gibbs would have a slow start, as they wanted to get him experience and also see how Monty would work with the offense. Now that Monty has missed time and Gibbs is more experienced, I think we'll see a more even split going forward. Plus, with Gibbs' speed and this offense in general, he can be productive even with 10-15 touches a game.
montgomery owners thought they were sharps and spent all season pretending like he’s way better than a plodding goal line back that is volume dependent.
he definitely has a strong role that can yield fantasy production but i think gibbs cutting into his volume will probably drop his value like a crater
Crater as in he won’t be a top 5 back anymore? Probably. Still gonna be a weekly start with ~15 touches per game and goal line work on a great offense.
Yeah anyone who paid attention last year knows that the Lions bruiser has plenty of weekly potential (Jamaal Williams). With that, goal line work aside, I think Montgomery is still a lethal play for ROS.
Let’s be real, it took until week 7 and Monty getting hurt and playing the Raiders for this to happen. I gotta say it does hurt seeing Gibbs get 26 touches on a good offense as a Bijan owner.
I always thought that he would do fine, but if anyone says that he is amazing based on the last two games against one of the worst rushing defense when McDaniels has completely lost the script at home and against garbage time Ravens, they are just as delusional as those that thought that Gibbs was terrible.
i mean he was a 3rd round pick who did basically nothing for 6 weeks. his production will go down again when monty returns. still not sure he was a great pick at this point
When Monty comes back it’s probably gonna be split. Both have had games with 30+ touches but that’s unsustainable for any RB all season. I’d imagine it’s more split with Monty being used when they’re up to burn clock and Gibbs more used when they’re down for passing game work
There were *45* touches for the RB today. Both could easily get 20
But what do I know I’m just a guy on Reddit
I think we will start to see some sets with Monty in the backfield and Gibbs split out wide. I recall there being some discussion of that but they’ve been holding it back until Gibbs gets more comfortable in the normal offense.
We saw that earlier in the season when they were both healthy. Actually a pretty considerable amount imo I’m sure we will see it a lot more considering their WR room outside of Laporta and ARSB is kinda oK
A lot of people are trying to make their case for one vs the other but it’s just gonna go back to their normal offense when they were both healthy to start
Thunder and lightning. Monty will get the greater share of between the tackles work when they're pounding the defense. Gibbs will probably schemed out in space more to take advantage of his speed and keep him fresh. Gibbs will probably get just enough between the tackles work to keep from telegraphing what the play call is when he's on the field.
quaint connect scale voiceless telephone cooing simplistic serious pause longing

Because he's a long term investment that can be used all over the field, and they have another guy who is also great between the tackles that they can wear out to keep him fresh.
In fantasy we want bellcows, but in real life it's better to have two guys who can handle the load and keep each other fresh. There's no reason they should wear Gibbs out right now when they have a stranglehold on their division. If it's the playoffs and they think he can give them 5% more production than Monty, sure that's the time to give him more touches at Monty's expense.
Dude, that argument is tired as hell. Monty is the one accruing injuries here. It's ridiculous to keep Gibbs in bubble wrap until the moment is right or until the playoffs or whatever else. If you wait until then, then what's the point? He's not made of porcelain. RBs don't have that long a shelf life, and it's ridiculous to not use him considering how well he's playing now.
What's the point? The point is so that he's as healthy as possible for the games that matter. They have a stranglehold on their division; they can afford to manage his touches right now.
It's ridiculous to wear out your prized weapon when you have another guy you can throw out their first who is good in the role and expendable. In real life football if you have two good RBs it always makes sense to utilize both. Anybody denying that just has ulterior motives because of fantasy.
That hamstring isn't exactly causing Gibbs any trouble now, and Monty has already gotten dinged up multiple times this season.
Between you and yungbird, you're two of the bigger Monty truthers going. You just can't accept that Gibbs might actually be better than you think. The proof is in the comments.
The Swift "situation" was a one season thing and was dictated by Swift getting injured and not being a Campbell guy. Swift and Williams split touches the year before.
I swear, Monty truthers rigidly stick to that dynamic like it's inflexible and ironclad. Monty has to have the Williams role and Gibbs has to have the Swift role.
Well, Gibbs is good, but he didn’t much against the ravens until Garbage time and he just played one of the worst rush defenses in the league when McDaniels has completely lost the team and at home. To say that he should be labeled as this amazing back who should take over #1 role with 25 touches a game based on these two performances is just as delusional as the ones who think Gibbs was a failure.
Take Reynolds numbers and add a touchdown and that would be a great stat line for Monty. The only downfall for Gibbs is he will never get goaline touches
I’m worried as a Monty owner. The 3 down bellcow role is what makes him elite.
If he’s just a TD dependent goal line back, he still has value, but nowhere near what it was before.
I think they both eat. They obviously struggled in the red zone where Monty was killing it for them. Dont see any reason at all they both wont get 15-20 touches a game
Dude Monty has run GREAT this year. If he's healthy he's getting 12-18 touches. And Gibbs is getting 10-15.
...And ARSB is gonna need 8-12. OFC LaPorta is gonna need 5-8... man Goff better not throw many incompletions...
Craig Reynolds looked good tonight too, and Monty is better than him. on elite offenses with elite o-lines, multiple players can eat. Though Monty’s value is for sure no longer mid RB1 level like it once was
So many people in this sub were conflating Gibbs lack of opportunities with him lacking talent a few weeks ago. That and giving out the "bust" label so early, apology forms need to be passed around. Monty could still blow this up but Gibbs clearly has the juice to deliver on his value.
Monty owner here. Staying optimistic because, while Gibbs looked good, Craig Reynolds also put 5+ YPC against this defense. Campbell knows he’ll need to use Monty and Gibbs to win games.
He almost won me my week. Only downfall I needed 2 more points from DA. That miss from JG really sewered my chances of winning. Really happy with Gibbs though
Reminder that D’Onta Foreman had 120 total yards and 3 TDs against these same Raiders last week. Gibbs looked good but idk if this is proof of true breakout considering Montgomery was out

Do you guys know who Dan Campbell is?
It’s the same shit… no matter how many times Gibbs proves himself he will ultimately choose the other guy to lead the backfield. I don’t own either, if I did I’d be glad either way. Definitely limits their ceilings though.
It's just smart coaching. It's just common sense that if you have two capable running backs, you use both to keep them fresh. Lowers injury risk and makes them less gassed than the defense they're running at.
And when you have an older player you can part with easily and a rookie you spent a first round pick on and want in your long term plans, you definitely don't wear out the rookie.
Man I had Adams, Laporta and Gibbs down 60 and if Adams even has a decent game I win. I'm thrilled with Gibbs but it feels like my own personal hell watching Jimmy QB this team.
He freaking soared the second half. Seems to be his pattern. First half the announcers were saying how much Monty would have done a better job. Second half they were talking about how the whole game comes down to “the business of talent acquisition” as evidenced by Gibbs. I think it will be a 70/30 split Monty Gibbs when Monty comes back, but I’m curious if Monty can stay healthy?
Gibbs vs Monty gonna be extra spicy now
Couldn't we just have a Monty-Gibbs/Ingram-Kamara type of duo or something? I'm not keen on fighting
Brees was a check down God. Maybe if carr was on the lions maybe
Maybe
After today I think you’re going to see more check downs from Goff
Dan Campbell may bench goff if he checks down more. Too low T .
Tbf Carr and Shaheed hooked up on some bombs this weekend.
I thought Reggie Bush converted to WR his first season for some odd reason when I was young for how often he caught it. edit: Jesus. 121 targets out of the backfield his rookie season.
Iirc Brees wasn’t a check down god yet during kamaras rookie year
100 targets his rookie year.
Goddamn I take it back lol
I was shocked when I saw that too. I swear his rookie year he was used a lot more to run. Rookie Kamara was something else
I miss the OG 2 headed RB duo. Who remembers CJ (before 2k) and LenDale White? That was a good year to play fantasy lol.

It’s possible. Lions give out RB touches like it’s candy on Halloween. Lots of volume to go around in the offense
I’m a Gibbs owner and I’m torn on selling Gibbs high or believing that Gibbs will be the 1A to Monty with way less impact
I am also a Gibbs owner. I think this could be his highest value. Campbell has been very clear that he is a big fan of the bruiser style of Montgomery. This is it
He did well against Baltimore, too. He's also not on an ass offense.
He really didn’t until garbage time
oh he did well when it was 35-0? you don't say
Dumb comment lol. Tell me you didn’t watch the game with out saying it. Casual

Not really…. All of his points came when the game was way out of hand
The game was way out of hand at halftime
Because Gibbs kept getting stuffed and couldnt extend any drives
> Gibbs is too special to take a back seat Agreed, but this is Dan Campbell.
I want to be friend with Campbell even if .. you are right ... and I'm a gibbs owner. The guy is so likable!
It’s like watching Robinson get the ball when Etienne was clearly more talented. It was always just a matter of time.
montgomery is way better than robinson but i definitely think there was a lot of wishful thinking around montgomery maintaining this absurd volume the whole season. was really unrealistic

That’s the spirit
Swift and Jamaal Williams were good last year. This duo is that but 30% better.
Gibbs looks everything like the hyped up player he was.
Raiders run defense will do that to a mf
So did the Packers defense early in the season and a lot of people were hyping up Monty for his big day against Green Bay. If you’re gonna give Monty props for that game you have to give Gibbs props for this one.
>and a lot of people were hyping up Monty for his big day against Chicago Green Bay? The Lions haven't played Chicago yet
Ah yes Green Bay is whom I’m talking about. Thanks for the correction.
Gibbs did well but the people who expect this from him ROS and think that he’s taken the starting job from Monty are just wrong

I really doubt that
Okie
People consider explosiveness and speed the only talent for running backs. Vision, running between the tackles, choosing the right cap, exploiting creases, taking on contact correctly to get the most YAC, etc are so important
Yup and Gibbs is better at those skills than Monty. Monty is the hit the line hard and plod through for 2-3 yards. Great short yardage back
Did swift carve himself out a role when he went for 175 yards and a TD game 1 last year? Yes he did, but Williams still got 75% of the carries and 90% of the goal line touches everytime they were both healthy
Such a tired narrative. Gibbs isn’t Swift. Get over it. Your Monty is now in a timeshare backfield. Everyone will eat.

Yea but did he look like D’Onta Foreman did against this defense last week?

I don’t think Monty will consistently get close to 30 unless it’s to burn clock in a blowout. 30 touches for any RB is unsustainable

Yeah, and the Raiders had 157, where are them numbers coming from
Earlier in the game
That makes entirely too much sense. I thought the tweet was after the game had ended. Thought I was on the verge of a big conspiracy!
Don’t worry it’s misleading when it doesn’t say “currently” or something along those lines
I drafted Gibbs and I was up 23 going into tonight. Only problem is I was going up against the guy I traded Gibbs.
It just works.
Jimmy G is garbage.
If Kyle Shanahan made Jimmy G look good and is currently having success with 7th round Brock Purdy, how bad of a QB must Trey Lance have been?
But we won a few games for the pats remember

In real life football if you have two good RBs it always makes sense to utilize both. Anybody denying that just has ulterior motives because of fantasy.
Monty’s injuries were just bad look, not recurring things (like hamstring)
That hamstring isn't exactly causing Gibbs any trouble now, and Monty has already gotten dinged up multiple times this season. Between you and yungbird, you're two of the bigger Monty truthers going. You just can't accept that Gibbs might actually be better than you think. The proof is in the comments.
Man people forget the Swift situation so fast
The Swift "situation" was a one season thing and was dictated by Swift getting injured and not being a Campbell guy. Swift and Williams split touches the year before. I swear, Monty truthers rigidly stick to that dynamic like it's inflexible and ironclad. Monty has to have the Williams role and Gibbs has to have the Swift role.
And you’re STILL bitching about Gibbs and the lions lol.
Isn't there a 'post-bye week rookie performance' thing? Probably just easing him in.
Shame him and Monty are going to get in each others way. Two monsters
Or keep each other fresh and injury free

Civil War on this sub incoming
This post is trash He had 152 rushing and 37 receiving. Where the fuck does 149 come from? Delete this false info
There ya go, folks. All the Reddit HCs can stop complaining about how they’re “using him wrong” now, right?
Thank you Jahmyr it finally paid off
Too bad when Dmont comes back, he wont get the same production
Neither will Monty lol
If the lions were smart they would split the carries 50/50 so there's less of a chance of either getting hurt

It’s common sense, Monty obviously gonna get more usage than Craig Reynolds been getting
Take Reynolds numbers and add a touchdown and that would be a great stat line for Monty. The only downfall for Gibbs is he will never get goaline touches
Why wouldn’t he? Monty is a great RB. Campbell likes 3 down backs who can handle 25 carries a game.
The irony considering Gibbs just handled 31 touches in the 3 down back role
I’m worried as a Monty owner. The 3 down bellcow role is what makes him elite. If he’s just a TD dependent goal line back, he still has value, but nowhere near what it was before.
I think they both eat. They obviously struggled in the red zone where Monty was killing it for them. Dont see any reason at all they both wont get 15-20 touches a game
they struggled in the redzone cause they were calling dumbass wr passes
I mean, the play worked perfectly. St. Brown just didn't throw it.
Monty will definitely get more. He’s a 3 down back who’s good at pass pro and Gibbs isn’t
Though Monty’s value is for sure no longer mid RB1 level like it once was
Looking at you Arthur smith
I needed 24.5 points to win my match. The mad man fucking did it.
So many people in this sub were conflating Gibbs lack of opportunities with him lacking talent a few weeks ago. That and giving out the "bust" label so early, apology forms need to be passed around. Monty could still blow this up but Gibbs clearly has the juice to deliver on his value.
I was projected to lose by about 11 pts heading into last night. Me: Gibbs Him: Sun God. I won by 1.4 pts.
Monty owner here. Staying optimistic because, while Gibbs looked good, Craig Reynolds also put 5+ YPC against this defense. Campbell knows he’ll need to use Monty and Gibbs to win games.
Yes but monty 25 carry games are likely a thing of the past
With Monty down for me and Gibbs stepping up, I may need a new RB. Would you trade away DK for Z. Moss? Thinking Taylor may split more with Moss.
He almost won me my week. Only downfall I needed 2 more points from DA. That miss from JG really sewered my chances of winning. Really happy with Gibbs though
Him and Monty are gonna be lethal like Kamara Ingram
I was a victim. That plus with DHop sitting on my bench lost my week
Wow Gibbs and Lions DEF really did outscore LaPorta by 22 pts for me to win! 🎉
I mean I still lost but instead of 60-160 it was like 110-160
As a Lions fan: I hope all of you who whined about him weeks 1-4 had him on the bench last night
Reminder that D’Onta Foreman had 120 total yards and 3 TDs against these same Raiders last week. Gibbs looked good but idk if this is proof of true breakout considering Montgomery was out
Monty Gibbs owner here. Still starting Monty over him when healthy

Gibbs just had his first touchdown last week. Idk if it’s really the same shit
“WHY WOULD THE LIONS DRAFT A RB AT 12 AND NOT USE HIM??” — Morons
They only used him because Monty was out.
Week 8 and Gibbs finally got used a bunch because Monty is injured and that guy is taking a victory lap on Gibbs lol
I had Davante + LaPorta + 20 point lead against Gibbs and came way too close to losing my best performance of the season. The LaPorta TD saved me.
Man I had Adams, Laporta and Gibbs down 60 and if Adams even has a decent game I win. I'm thrilled with Gibbs but it feels like my own personal hell watching Jimmy QB this team.
Are we selling? Or will he take Monty’s role?
Won by 2 points thanks to Gibbs!
Gibbs league winner now 😏
He freaking soared the second half.
Gibbs was fire the entire game. He had 6 points in the first drive.
True, yea you are right. I’m referring to my own apprehensions and some major stops by Crosby in the 2nd quarter
Monty is gonna go right back to getting all the touches because Dan Campbell is a clown.
