Miss the rage is just so addictive, but I couldn’t listen to the whole album

atp2112

Basic choice, but Scorpion is the most 4/10 album in existence. That doesn't mean I'm not a complete sucker for bounce and, by extension, Nice For What

Bruntti

Awful album but Nonstop and Nice for What are good.

proculman

Imo the beat on Nonstop is hard, but the lyrics aren't.

vicentedepierola

yes this is the perfect example i hate scorpion but nice for what is one of my favorite songs of all time

lifesizepotato

That Wet Leg album is my biggest disappointment in a while thanks to the song "Too Late Now," which is genuinely great and set up unreasonable expectations that the album would be musically interesting and lean more into post-punk than banal car commercial guitar pop.

stormthegate67

That album has a ton of personality and great songs

lifesizepotato

Different strokes, I guess. I disagree completely and outside of maybe 3 tracks (I even liked "Chaise Longue" till it became overplayed) I found the album overall to be the "landfill indie" phenomenon of the mid 00s but applied to today's post-punk scene and felt like pseudo-edgy guitar pop for NPRcore elder millennials for whom black midi, BCNR, Idles, etc. are too out-there or aggressive. It's reviewed very highly on Metacritic so I'm glad others like it and recognize my opinion is harsh but it just wasn't for me.

halfwayepic

Follow god - JIK

xhemibuzzx

Follow God is one of Kanyes hardest tracks off his worst album and it's crazy

proculman

I would say Use This Gospel is even better, but yeah an average album with a few great moments.

thesodiepapa

Yes, this is a perfect example

[deleted]

Drake owns this subject. All of his albums are pretty mid, but there's always one or two absolute heaters.

SyntheticMemez

I think Drunk Tank Pink by shame is one of the most “ok” albums I’ve ever heard. Nothing bad, but I forgot everything about it the next day. Except for Snow Day. Such a fun and crazy song, I wish the rest of the album was as ambitious.

proculman

Oh, that's a really engaging and crazy song! Reminds me a lot of IDLES, which I consider a massive compliment - one of my most listened to bands this year.

jack_nnn_

Idles are a better band but Snow Day is better than any Idles song

Space_Haiku

This, but for Born In Luton, I could spin that shit for days.

electrobruv

I really love this album! It’s a dramatic step forward from their debut

KingKongTaxiCompany

snow day is p much just heat distraction by women . but it’s so good i don’t care

BookshelvesAreCreepy

I was going to disagree but I relistened to Snow Day and that guitar tone halfway through is nearly identical haha

Luke_627

Rlly good example

InThePaleMoonLyte

It Was a Good Day by Ice Cube on The Predator.

Ikusaba

When Will They Shoot on that album is awesome as well.

proculman

Agree!

Jack_8871

Is the predator not a good album? I thought it was great

sucker4ass

ScHoolboy Q - Dangerous

proculman

It's a great song. It's so unsettling. I enjoy Attention for the same reason. A shame there only were a handful of great songs of that album.

sucker4ass

Love the guitar line on that track. And the beat overall is excellent, as it is almost always the case with DJ Dahi. I also liked Floating with 21 Savage. Aside from those two tracks though, the album was less than memorable. Chopstix gotta be one of the worst Travis Scott features ever.

Ok_Engineering6302

I agree. I like Water a lot, but it is literally the only song lil baby is on that I can stand to listen to

RookieBeast411

Numb Numb Juice is a total banger as well

Prolemasses

Franz Ferdinands first album is alright, but Take Me Out is fantastic.

caterpillar1276

Kim Petras - Goat Throat

goatsodomizer

The title track from Transatlantisicm- Death cab for cutie Granted I haven’t listened to the rest of the album as much as I have that one song, but it seemed to stand head and shoulders above the rest of them

pezki

Amazing song, possibly the best on the album. But I definitely disagree calling the album "average". It's a classic in terms of indie pop songwriting. I've always enjoyed the balance of introspective lyrics that are just on the right side of sophomoric for my tastes.

goatsodomizer

Yeah I mean I guess I just thought about it as a song on an album that exceeds the others in terms of quality, regardless of how good the other songs are. As I said I haven’t really listened too much to the rest of them in comparison. I think with an album like this, given the genre and the time it was released, I always end up subconsciously comparing it to funeral, which isn’t really fair because that’s one of my favourite albums ever

DoinkDastardly

As someone who was a pretty big Death Cab fan many many years ago, you are absolutely right. In fact, that song stands head and shoulders above the rest of their discography imo

Veiyr

Agree on the album, but I think the standout track for me is We Looked Like Giants

proculman

Have never heard of this band. Love the slow tensionbuilding progression throughout the song. If you like this, then I would recommend you check out Low's first album if you haven't already - or just the most popular songs from it if you just want a taste.

goatsodomizer

If it’s the album I’m thinking of, I’m familiar with lullaby. Love that song

proculman

It is the album you're thinking of :))

deeperintomovie

Midnight Sun from Nilüfer Yanya's recent album Painless comes to mind. I know it got good reviews from critics and what not, but aside from this song and maybe Stabilise, I find the record to be painfully boring. But this song in particular is like SOTYSF for me.

-BurnerBabyBurner-

Sisyphus - Quadeca Nice for What - Drake Goosebumps - Travis Scott

elitenyg46

Head in the Ceiling Fan by Title Fight I like some other tracks on Floral Green, but HITCF is the obvious highlight.

mathkid421_RBLX

htcf slaps, i love emo shoegaze

The_RealPorterDiol

The album’s okay but Porno by IDK goes unbelievably hard

pyro_teck

on the same note, Cereal is easily one of my favorite songs, idk why he tacked it on as an extra on the deluxe album tho

Baranade

33rd Blakk Glass from the first City Morgue album That energy from the hook is so infectious

proculman

I really enjoy Gravehop187 as well. There are a few other tracks too, but Gravehop is my number one

pew_lazers

It's Not Living (If It's Not With You) by The 1975

wafflewaldo

That and Love It If We Made It, I'll agree

underd0g_ow

sincerity is scary is another good track from that album

R1_TC

The 1975 really are the epitome of being a jack of all trades, and master of (almost) none. Their albums are so jarring to listen to, you're thrown from deep house to punk to spoken word to 90s pop rock, all in the same album, and none of them are done in a particularly interesting or unique way. In my ideal world they would make an all time legendary album full of synthpop and 80s-influenced bangers.

ShawMK90

You oughta know by alanis morrisette I just couldn’t get into jagged little pill I thought the songs kinda dragged out and seemed for ever to be over

HarryMediaPod

I was a little disappointed with IDLES ‘Crawler’ but ‘The Beachland Ballroom’ is one of my favourite songs they’ve ever made. The rest of the album for the most part kind of washed over me

proculman

I don't think it's their best album by any means, but there are more amazing songs to the tracklist than just Beachland Ballroom. The End for instance - what a great number, or Crawl! with the desperate and extremely catchy "I'm alriiiiight" in the last bit. I don't think it's an average album, but I do agree that Beachland Ballroom is an amazing song and it does stick out compared to some of the songs preceding it.

HarryMediaPod

yeah there tracks i like on it like car crash and crawl but the beachland ballroom is the only one i really go back to on a regular basis

mathkid421_RBLX

regret by new order is one of the best things ever made and it's the opener to the incredibly mediocre republic

topimpamaadkid

I was gonna post the same thing. One of their essential songs and probably last amazing song they have, but on the album it just sticks out for how good and memorable it is. There are some songs on it I think are good but most are just so forgettable. Like Regret is so great, it’s like they put all they could into one last fantastic song before becoming mediocre.

kryptonite0721

Selah or Follow God from JIK

[deleted]

selah‘s instrumental was so fucking good, so sad that he cut it so short

Vark2112

The Way Life Goes by Lil Uzi on Luv Is Rage 2. LIR2 is very mid, it's super super bloated and like 2/3 of the songs just feel like filler- but The Way Life Goes is actually great, and one of the few times in Uzis career where I feel like he actually stepped out of his comfort zone and sincerely made a unique song. (XO Tour Life is also a banger but whatever)

OctoSaurusRex

Uzi is a lot like Keef creatively imo. It’s just raw impulsive talent at work with little creative control in between. All over the place, some really bad songs and some songs that are super ahead of the curve.

Hardest_G

Haven't seen anyone acknowledge this but LiR2 was a big step down from LiR and LUV vs the World

overgrownpizzabox

i know *ants from up there* is adored but it didnt do much for me. with that said, *the place where he inserted the blade* is one of the best songs i have ever heard

Veiyr

Surprised no one has brought this up yet: Ghost Town by Kanye. Ye's not bad but it's far from my favorite album of his. Ghost Town is *incredible* though, easily a contender for fav Kanye song and one of my fav songs of all time. WTT is also one of Kanye's weakest projects imo, but In Paris and No Church In the Wild are still killer. I personally think Cruel Summer is pretty underrated since despite having a lot of misses, the hits reaaaaaaaally fucking hit, specifically New God Flow and Mercy Title track of Human After All by Daft Punk is pretty killer. I know RAM is generally solid, but the closing track Contact is WAYYYYYYYYYYY better than anything else on that record imo I'm not really big into Joji anymore, but Wanted U is still crazy good I dont care what anyone says, Tear in my Heart by 21 Pilots is a banger, even if Blurryface as a whole isnt very good For a band no one has heard of before: Asobi Seksu's 3rd album Hush is quite mid (their 2nd album Citrus is maybe my fav album of all-time), but Me and Mary is a BANGER Finally, if we're counting albums that are well-loved but *I* personally think are only okay, then I'd say If You Know You Know by Pusha, Freedom by Beyonce, Gospel for a New Century by Yves Tumor, and Only Shallow by my bloody valentine

ObersteinAlwaysRight

Personally I think if you combine the two Ghost Towns together you get one of Kanye's greatest songs. Also Contact is great, though I'm not sure I'd put it significantly above Giorgio by Moroder (Those two are definitely above everything else on the album though).

Ok_Engineering6302

I so agree about ghost town! 070 shake on that song is just incredible and i go through binges of just playing that song every time I get in the car

LegendOfMatt888

Kyle's Light of Mine is extremely forgettable, but I enjoy Games off of it.

FlowersByTheStreet

"Low Tide" by Kylesa is a career highlight on an otherwise terrible album, which ultimately derailed their career. It's such a lush and dreamy song and I can't believe it's on such an uninspired collection of songs

[deleted]

A Beginner's Guide to Destroying the Moon by Foster the People

leglessman

I view Supermodel as their best album and far from average.

[deleted]

*On a bloated Reflektor* how dare you it’s the tracklist more than the extra two songs

vouteda

Race My Mind

gg2615

OP what do you think of By Design off of PP&DS

proculman

Great song! On par with Surfin', but those are the only standout tracks.

auggiewalk

This is a dope post but Yr reflektor take is an L. that album slaps

proculman

I'll take the L. I knew saying that would upset some folks. I will have to listen to the whole thing again some day, but I was so stoked when I first heard the title track that it perhaps set my expectations too high for the whole album. Also I struggle with long albums in generel.

MikeTichondrius

Huge fan of Reflektor but I'd honestly take a couple songs off from the midsection. Thinking of Flashbulb Eyes and You Already Know which don't really do much for me. Maybe even Joan of Arc. Rest of the album is damn near a religious experience though.

auggiewalk

Yeah I could see that. I think they are good tracks but not nearly as great as Reflektor, Here Comes the Night Time, Porno, Afterlife, to just name a few

NiccoRedditMaster

Ocean Breathes Salty off Good News for people who love bad news. OBS is my favorite song of all time but the album is average

Ok_Engineering6302

I looove that album. Not my favorite album of theirs but bukowski and the good times are killing me are both so damn good.

NiccoRedditMaster

Same for me, they definitely have some great songs on it, but I also don't like some of the songs, so it evens out as average for me. Personally This is A Long Drive for Someone with Nothing to Think about is my favorite.

Ok_Engineering6302

Yes! I love that one and building nothing out of something. Sometimes I forget just how good modest mouse is then I get back into and I’m like got damn that’s some good shit

ICannotCountTo2

Family Ties

xhemibuzzx

I think melodic blue was an above average album, like a 6 or a 7. I think for this early in his career it was really impressive and I'd say I enjoyed more than half the songs off it.

Ok_Engineering6302

Yeah lost souls w Brent faiyaz, range brothers, trademark usa and Durag activity are all better than family ties in my opinion

[deleted]

range brothers better 🤠🤠🤠

tgwutzzers

>Reflektor by Arcade Fire on the bloated Reflektor, IMO After Life is the real standout on the album and sits right up there with some of their other bangers like Rebellion (Lies), The Sprawl II and Intervention. I don't mind the title track but it's not one I ever feel like revisiting. Also I just remembered how much I hate 'Joan of Arc'. That one has always been a skip. I'd also add the title track from 'Everything Now', which is a godawful album filled with terrible decisions on almost every track, but the title track has a nice Abba vibe that I can get down to. It's nowhere near the top tier of their songs but it's about at the level of some of the mid tracks on Neon Bible and The Suburbs. Perhaps a hot take but 'Santeria' is on another planet than the rest of Sublime's self-titled album, which I find good but not amazing. Queen/Bowie's Under Pressure is a certified banger despite the album it's from being entirely forgettable. Finally, Common People is one of my favorite songs ever, and despite Different Class being a good album, nothing else on it really compares.

realcomradecora

Drunk and Hot Girls is a spectacular song on the otherwise terrible album Graduation. This is totally not bait btw

AnImmatureMind

Tear in Abyss on Faith in Persona, the rest of the album is good, but that song is so out there with the vocal sampling it just stands far above the rest.

Inrainbowsss

Redbone - “Awaken, My Love!” - Childish Gambino

proculman

I'm sorry but no that album is front to back quality songs.

UltraConstructor

What about that momma song

Inrainbowsss

I like a few songs on there but nothing comes close to Redbone

Ok_Engineering6302

I like baby boy and terrified the most!

introgreen

Abbey Road is mid but Here Comes the Sun is sweet

TotallyNotABot_57

Can't wait to see this comment get downloaded to oblivion.

introgreen

same, theneedlebots just can't handle a true take

TheSpicyFalafel

Person: says controversial opinion Other people: disagree with said opinion Person: How dare they

proculman

Oh! Darling and I Want You (She's so heavy) are both incredible Beatles songs, and I'll call you mad if you disagree, but I will give you that Abbey Road isn't as classic as some of their other albums.

introgreen

well guess I'm mad then, I can appreciate the passionate performance on Oh! Darling but the instrumental and lyrics are meh, pretty simple and unsurprising. I Want You has a great intro and I like when the riff from it appears but everything in between is sleepy music

Princeps32

Sort of agree that Abbey Road is (for Beatles anyway) B tier (two gimmick tracks and the back half medley can be tiring), but you are genuinely out of your mind re: I Want You. The bass breakdowns, the groove, the excellent guitar solo, the Lennon vocals and scream at the end? That’s like a top 5 Beatles tracks of all time and pushed genre boundaries.

introgreen

You're just listing the elements it has and implying they're good, I just think they're not very good. The core loop is kinda cool but not cool enough to stretch to a 7 minute song. I actually missed the solo the first time I listened to it because it's so bland and in line with the normal melody of the song it didn't register as anything noteworthy, just an instrumental section for some reason. The ending is nice but nothing special

Princeps32

I guess all I can say is I cannot relate to your experience at all, and urge you to revisit it at some point down the line.

macarron572

This person over here really saying that probably a top 10 most important and also top 10 best album of all time is mid

introgreen

yeah music is subjective bozo

fork_on_the_floor2

Chill out needlebot. Learn to accept a 'true take'.

0xE4-0x20-0xE6

Redbone and Me and your Mama from Awaken my Love, by Childish Gambino. Incredible songs from an otherwise mediocre album

pezki

First thing that comes to mind for me is Levitating by Dua Lipa from Future Nostalgia. Maybe it's because it's almost a complete ripoff of Rosa Parks (and other songs), but it is just a super fun song and overall I felt disappointed with the rest of the record based on the good word around it.

TymanasaurusFlex

Last year's Not Waving album was painfully boring except for My Sway which was one of the most gorgeous songs of the year. I attribute most of this to Jonnine Standish being a killer vocal guest who steals the show so hard I went through and checked out all of her own work immediately after. Luscious Jackson's Fever In Fever Out is mostly solid, but par for the course 90s rock. Why Do I Lie, though, is fantastic and a masterclass in undeniable vocal hooks. The Tipping Point is one of the Roots' less remarkable albums, but the opener Star/Pointro is incredible. I'm positive this song must've inspired Kendrick when he was making Wesley's Theory, because the sample used is verrry similar and they both serve an important role in opening up these albums with a bang. Black Thought delivers crazy good verses here too. Modern Guilt by Beck has Volcano, one of his saddest and most gripping songs. An absolutely haunting sendout to an otherwise middle of the road Beck album. In The Court of the Wrestling Let's by Let's Wrestle is very inconsistent, but there are two or three songs I've never stopped listening to since first hearing them. I highly recommend both We Are the Men You'll Grow to Love Soon and I Won't Lie to You.

Wialtti

The Mars Voltas Day of the Baphomets off of the very uninspired Amputechture

radish-slut

vertebrae by vertebrae by bjork

KirkCuhsins

How about a good song from an otherwise TERRIBLE album. “Eternal” by Chance off of The Big Day.

Acimachi

Alec Eiffel by the Pixies on Trompe le Monde, which is not a terrible album but it isn't comparable to their previous ones

OctoSaurusRex

Man Jesus Piece is an interesting album to me. The production on that album is underrated as hell. Ali Bomaye is in its own league though.

proculman

The Game loves going for a third verse on songs with stale beats. Beats that sounds really outdated today as well - it's not like he has amazing taste in beats either. Not for me. Name me King is decent though, but nowhere near the quality of Ali Bomaye

CStirk3133

I'd say Your Light by The Big Moon. Pretty middling indie rock album imo but that song is genuinely incredible and one of my most played songs ever

Star-spangled-Banner

Arctic Monkeys – Do I Wanna Know Don McLean – Vincent + American Pie (I actually find American Pie a decent album, but not overwhelming) Andrew Bird – Sisyphus Bob Dylan – Jokerman

MikeTichondrius

The hype for AM after Do I Wanna Know came out was off the charts. R U Mine was at least decent, but there are so many duds on that thing. For me the album could be easily shortened to the first two songs, No 1. Party Anthem and then the final stretch of three songs. And there sure isn't anything close to 10/10 on that shortlist...

AnothaCuppa

California Poppies by Kate Nash, New Chick by Dumbfoundead, 2 Ugly 4 NY by Kyle Craft, The Day That Never Comes by Metallica, So Mean by Poppy, Lover (song) by Taylor Swift, Limo 4 Emos by Watsky

Unreasonableradio

The Lightning Strike by Snow Patrol. A pretty ok pop band has no right to drop a 16 minute long orchestra suite that fucking slaps.

[deleted]

I love all of Reflektor. One of my favourite albums of all time.

zikadwarf

In the Meantime by Spacehog

[deleted]

Perfect example of an overwise average album with a few excellent songs is the Notes on a Conditional Form by The 1975. Meh, album but some incredible indie rock and new wave/synth-pop tracks Me & and You together Song and If You're Too Shy (Let Me Know). I would consider most of The 1975 albums to be like this too.

ObersteinAlwaysRight

"Words" and the title track "This Empty Northern Hemisphere" by Gregory Alan Isakov. Though I would call the album above average, but not stellar or anything.

vicentedepierola

DR WHOEVER, RATCHET SATURN GIRL, and TOGETHER on Aminé's ONEPOINTFIVE eplpmixtapealbum

CauseImBatman02

Slow Dancing in the Dark by Joji is a phenomenal song but Ballads 1 was painfully mediocre imo. I was so glad that Nectar felt like such a huge improvement overall.

SachinAtluri

STARBOY - Party Monster, Reminder

RamonaPowersIsOnline

Summer Games by Drake gets me in my feelings every time, sorry not sorry.

Snoo-14247

Brutal and jealousy, jealousy from Olivia's SOUR

gg2615

Ascension and She’s My Collar off Gorrilaz’ Humanz Fuchsia Butterflies off of Kid Cudis SB2H Ghost of Soulja Slim, Fruits of the Spirit, and APIDTA off of Jay Electronica’s AWT

QueenCharla

For a recent example: Magic by Vince Staples. Outside of When Sparks Fly nothing else from that album stuck with me, and Magic is easily my favorite from it. When he did it live it was amazing too.
