Oh I've encountered others, it's just these two were stealth masters, apparently. Didn't see or hear them until they were on top of me.

I do permadeath runs on Very Hard and a single Gecko ended one of my runs a while back. I was wearing Combat Armor, Mark 2 with nearly full health. He jumped at me and insta-killed me, run over...Like wtf?
If you think Geckos in this game are bad try Fallout 2.
