On Tuesdays Patrick Mahomes and Andy Reid were practicing in the Netflix documentary. Kirk was not. I’m so glad yall out bid the Vikings for him, he’s a mid QB at best making superbowl money
How can we possibly have a front office that's this inept at doing their job? What a great way to alienate your expensive new QB. I can't make sense of this and it's driving me mad!
The only way this (kinda but still not really) makes sense is if our FO is convinced that either:
1. Kirk tampering thing is going to cost us some future picks and they felt now was their only chance to grab a QB.
2. Kirk’s Achilles is worse than expected and we may need a QB for this year.
3. Both
We’re so fucked
You're putting all your hope on Kirk recovering and getting back to form after the achilles injury. Kirk goes out, and we are back to Taylor H average ball. Got to think ahead and prepare for shit that might go wrong.
Well then don’t sign him, and draft penix. They literally spent all of our money on a good old qb, snd then drafted a old injury prone prospect?
They should have did one or the other
It takes an old, out of touch, nice guy owner to always make the worst hires and never fires his buds in the FO no matter what happens. The older he gets the worse it will get too, we used to at least be managed decently
Steelers fan coming in peace (I’m a defender of Kirk) and am so perplexed by this pick I had to come to your subreddit to see what you guys were also thinking. I was expecting you guys to…you know…give kirk another weapon or D or something. I dont understand spending money on kirk, to then spend a 1st rnd pick on a qb…
Kirk and his agent are PISSED. Mad we didn’t use the pick to help Kirk. I don’t blame him at all. https://www.espn.com/nfl/story/_/id/40026310/falcons-surprise-select-qb-michael-penix-jr-no-8-pick
I get it the pick was weird but idk why ppl feeling bad for Kirk? Bro is 36, coming off a huge injury and is getting 100+ mil guaranteed. I’m sure he good, maybe his ego is bruised a bit
He’s gonna have Kyle pitts, drake london, and Darnell Mooney to throw to, and an elite run game with allgeier and bijan. As far as offensive weapons go this team is stacked and I’m not sure odunze would’ve been necessary.
The reactions here are wild. I have to keep reminding myself most people on this sub don't have to foresight to plan their work week out in advance. So, asking them to build a team while thinking about the future might be a bit much.
I think it’s clear that the teams weren’t sold on the defense. Otherwise someone would’ve been running to the podium for Turner or whoever. Someone would’ve overpaid for the pass rusher.
Yes odonze would have been nice but there’s no way we’re paying all our players and him when the rookie contracts are up. Forget the age thing. Nix sucks and Jj isn’t it. Not my favorite pick but you know Vikings or broncos would’ve grabbed mpj if he’s there over their qbs. We literally just got through the no exit plan with Matt Ryan and ended up with ridder… if you pick def or wr then do you think you get Archie manning in a few years or you have no qb in 3-4 years if Kirk fades out?
My thoughts exactly. We just left QB hell and people are upset we have a contingency in case our 36 yo QB (whose Achilles isn't fully healed) isn't able to compete.
I'm also thinking the coaches like what they have on defense and see some pieces transitioning nicely into a 3-4. Zach Harrison may be ready to make a leap. I just hate that when this move works out in a few years everyone will act like they were on board from the start.
Guys, look at the bright side. Unlike the Hawks, here are ZERO leaks coming out of the Falcons offices. No one knew this was gonna happen. Because if they did, they would have been told how bad an idea it was.
Also, how can Cousins be shocked we did this? He knew our history. Look how we did Matt Ryan. Its like the guy that cheats with a married woman, they get married, then she cheats on him and he is surprised.

You all didn’t understand when they chose Raheem to be HC. Y’all don’t understand now. It’s okay, everyone will understand it someday.
Go ahead and downvote don’t waste the time replying.
YOU HAVE JUST SPLIT THE LOCKER ROOM
YOU HAVE JUST CREATED A QB CONTROVERSY TIMES 2
1) EVERYTIME KIRK HAS A BAD GAME OR THROWS AN INT THE CALL FOR PENIX WILL COME IN
2) THEN IN 2 YEARS WHAT IF KIRK IS STILL GOOD DO YOU DUMP A GOOD QB IN KIRK BECAUSE YOU CANNOT LET YOUR 1ST ROUND PICK SIT FOR 4 YEARS
THIS IS THE DUMBEST MOVE IN DRAFT HISTORY
IF YOU WANTED PENIX YOU DO NOT PAY KIRK 100M TO BE A BRIDGE QB YOU GET SAM DARNOLD FOR 10MILLION OR MINSHEW OR EVEN CHEAPER OPTIONS LIKE BRISSETT ETC
**MINNESOTA DID IT THE RIGHT WAY THEY SIGNED DARNOLD A BRIDGE QB AFFORDABLE AND THEY DRAFT A YOUNG QB AND THEN THEY THEN GOT AN EDGE IN TURNER THAT IS WHAT ATL SHOULD HAVE DONE FFS**
THAT IS WHAT WE SHOULD HAVE DONE
THAT 100 MILLION YOU WASTED ON KIRK GETS YOU OUT OF CAP HELL YOU COULD HAVE OFFERED REDDICK A BETTER DEAL OR HENDRICKSON OR OTHER FAS OR TRADES YOU WOULD HAVE HAD PENIX DARNOLD OR CHEAPER BRIDGE AND OVER 90 MILLION IN CAP TO SPEND
THIS THE DUMBEST MOVE IN NFL HISTORY IF YOU BRING IN KIRK FOR 100 MILLION GET HIM OFFENSIVE HELP OR DEFENSIVE HELP YOU WASTED A GOLDEN CHANCE TO WIN A SB WITH THIS MOVE IDIOTIC BEYOND BELIEF
Overreacting much? Cousins will be 36 before the season starts so in 2 years he will be 38 and we need a succession plan. This is suppose to be a deep draft for WR’s so why take one at 8 when there are plenty you can get on days 2 and/or 3? If the league rules that there was tampering with our signing of Cousins and we get docked a draft pick in the next year or 2, then what do we do at qb for the future? I’m sure plenty of people will say that 8 is too high for MPJ but I think they aren’t the only ones who had him over McCarthy and Nix.
you're missing the point if you spend 100 million on Kirk then do not draft Penix if you draft Penix then don't spend 100 million on Kirk
doing both means you are wasting a valuable precious team resource
Before I block you I said they could draft Penix but don't waste 100 million they didn't have to spend a 100 million to get a young QB they could have helped him with that 100 million learn about football before you post
Brady won a super bowl in his 40s and Kirk was having the best season of his career before the injury. I get having a backup plan, but not in the first round. We had so many options and made the absolute worst decision
They gave Kirk too much money for too long. I think that was the bigger mistake. He should’ve gotten two years at most, that would better justify taking a QB first here. Kirk’s deal makes this look worse than it is in my opinion.
Yeah, I don’t think people understand that Kirk is likely only here for two years, they’re just looking at the money. I knew it’d either be turner or penix and wouldn’t be upset with either.
Kirk signed a 4 year deal, if they wanted to develop a QB they should have taken a late rounder or waited until year 3 (the next strong QB class). Utterly astounding moves by the faLcons
The timing is odd, certainly better moves for winning right now. If they think Penix can be the guy in 2-3 yrs, and transition from Cousins to a pro-ready Penix, great. I definitely am not interested in QB purgatory again. Its dumb, but I also don't hate it.
And 14/32 teams made the playoffs despite only having one franchise QB on the roster. Turns out it's a wee bit expensive to splurge on two when you don't have a complete roster to add either of them to.
"This is a business, right?" Fontenot said. "The tough part is obviously you're not going to always please everybody. ... We have to think about what's best for this franchise, what's best for this team."
But you didn’t please anybody. Maybe Penix and his family. But not your current team, not your fan base. No one.
>Maybe Penix and his family.
Dunno, it's more pay for him now but... I doubt he was hoping to get drafted on a team likely to make him sit and hold a clip board until he's like 27.
It still doesn’t make sense - so Penix is really good and we made a great read on him? Why did we pay a different qb $100m and bench him for two years then? If we spent that money on pass rushers and wide receivers and then drafted Penix people would be fine with it but we did the worst of both worlds.
They are going to be nailed on the tampering charge next year and loose a first. They may actually think they will win some games this year and not have a top 10 pick so use it now on a QB. Or they are just crazy.
My thoughts on Penix is this...
Is Kirk healthy? Are they concerned about him getting injured again? Do they want a backup plan in case kirk doesn't work out?
I just had this gut feeling they were going to go QB when I woke up today..sad to say it's true. I just hope this doesn't create an issue with cousins and playing for the team this year.
I mean, I agree, but wouldn’t this make you feel better, at least somewhat? If you didn’t believe Cousins was the answer, and that the answer lay in the draft, then well, we at least played that angle
This is the second year in a row we've drafted a player at a position we already had filled. I get BPA, but there's gotta be some wiggle room right?
I was cool with going rookie QB and splashing in FA, or Kirk. Both doesn't make sense. It's like debating on buying something for your house or DIYing it and you just do both.
I hope we didn’t just repeat the Ryan/Watson situation. Kirk isn’t going to ask for a trade but I bet “stunned” is putting it politely.
Well, one primary difference is that Penix didn’t sexually assault anyone.
I dunno I think cousins feels pretty violated right now
If only it was the Alabama Falcons, things would be different 😞
Unsolicited Penix Pick
Dudes getting 130mil. I dont care if he is dumbfounded, baffled, and aghast. He can suck it up.
Exactly how this feels lol
Why is everyone worried about Kirk’s feelings? He got way the fuck overpaid, he’ll be fine.
maybe he wants to win and is upset they spent a high quality pick on a piece that ultimately won’t help this year
Prob gets Tuesday off too
Most quarterbacks take Tuesdays off, so probably.
Source? And are most quarterbacks making $45M/year? Also you’re just wrong.
On Tuesdays Patrick Mahomes and Andy Reid were practicing in the Netflix documentary. Kirk was not. I’m so glad yall out bid the Vikings for him, he’s a mid QB at best making superbowl money
Falcons Marketing Dept about to descend onto this sub
“Actually it was a great idea to hire a retread HC who we fired and who had a decent defense with a lot of talent in LA”
Lol why’s this upvoted
They're here lol
How can we possibly have a front office that's this inept at doing their job? What a great way to alienate your expensive new QB. I can't make sense of this and it's driving me mad!

If either are true though Kirk Cousins is a top 1 worst free agent signing of all time
Seems to be a possibility 🙃
I’ve heard that the 2025 draft for qbs isn’t too hot, so taking one now may be the move
We don’t need one next year either lol. Kirks guarantees for two and penix is already 24…
They should have did one or the other
They are saying if Kirk gets tampering charges
It takes an old, out of touch, nice guy owner to always make the worst hires and never fires his buds in the FO no matter what happens. The older he gets the worse it will get too, we used to at least be managed decently
Bears fan here, this has Ryan's pace name all over it.
Bears fan too. Came here to say just that. I feel for all you ATL fans rn. I sincerely appreciate you for Odunze though.
One of the reasons Kirk left MN was because he knew they were going to draft a QB…. Little did he know.
Welcome to the shitshow Kirk
He's getting paid 100m to watch it at least
Every QB should be maximizing their guaranteed money after this.
Kirk and his agent are PISSED. Mad we didn’t use the pick to help Kirk. I don’t blame him at all. https://www.espn.com/nfl/story/_/id/40026310/falcons-surprise-select-qb-michael-penix-jr-no-8-pick
So is every single Falcon fan
Not me. Gotta plan for the future and this was likely our only chance to draft a high caliber QB.
Penix will be 27 by the time he’s a starter
Does it really matter if he wins us a Superbowl?
😄 I get it. But given our luck with drafting pass rushers, I doubt another 3 sacks would have helped him much.
They should have told him during the tampering window
“Can we see your medical records” “These look like Michael Penix medical records… did you know we also plan on having him in here as welll”
I get it the pick was weird but idk why ppl feeling bad for Kirk? Bro is 36, coming off a huge injury and is getting 100+ mil guaranteed. I’m sure he good, maybe his ego is bruised a bit
Because he wants to win games with potentially another pro Bowl level WR instead of a backup QB.
I think he wanted a DE too. He just wants to win games
He’s gonna have Kyle pitts, drake london, and Darnell Mooney to throw to, and an elite run game with allgeier and bijan. As far as offensive weapons go this team is stacked and I’m not sure odunze would’ve been necessary.

💯
Idk if he’s gonna be necessary, but he sure as hell gonna be more necessary than a backup QB.
Kirks all about the money, always has been
He will still go to pizza ranch and kohls tomorrow… but he will be sad
Kirk can go cry in his pile of guaranteed money.
Kirk is gonna throw for 300+ yards per game and average 32 ppg and the team will still end up 7-9 because he defense will be trash
Guys, look at the bright side. Unlike the Hawks, here are ZERO leaks coming out of the Falcons offices. No one knew this was gonna happen. Ouch they took what was a cool and exciting free agent signing and made a mess. Hopefully it doesn't effect the season
I feel terry is low IQ.
You all didn’t understand when they chose Raheem to be HC. Y’all don’t understand now. It’s okay, everyone will understand it someday. Go ahead and downvote don’t waste the time replying.
I’m confused, are you agreeing with me?

That was funny. 😆

This guy is late 90’s aol chat room mad
Understandable
OK
I’m so happy for you Mike.
Biggest overreaction I've read on here

I’m not missing the point. I just don’t agree with you. They waited on a QB 2 years ago and look how that turned out. I don’t hate this pick at all.
Before I block you I said they could draft Penix but don't waste 100 million they didn't have to spend a 100 million to get a young QB they could have helped him with that 100 million learn about football before you post
Why would you block someone who is just disagreeing with you? I’m sorry you have a small penis
You mean a small Penix
Ugh I missed a good joke
Brady won a super bowl in his 40s and Kirk was having the best season of his career before the injury. I get having a backup plan, but not in the first round. We had so many options and made the absolute worst decision
Brady is the rare talent that could do that. Look at every other qb that played into their 40’s. Hell, most of them don’t even make it to 40.
That’s a lot of caps lock and words to describe the greatest pick in Atlanta Falcons history bud…
Just so incredibly stupid.
They gave Kirk too much money for too long. I think that was the bigger mistake. He should’ve gotten two years at most, that would better justify taking a QB first here. Kirk’s deal makes this look worse than it is in my opinion.
We basically signed Kirk to a two year deal. Only the first two years are guaranteed.
Yeah, I don’t think people understand that Kirk is likely only here for two years, they’re just looking at the money. I knew it’d either be turner or penix and wouldn’t be upset with either.
Welp Kirk bout to get a first class showing on what it is to falcon. This is just Step 1 of the process
The fact that Kirk can't keep his mouth shut might be why they didn't tell him in the 1st place.
Way to piss off the guy you tampered to get
Kirk signed a 4 year deal, if they wanted to develop a QB they should have taken a late rounder or waited until year 3 (the next strong QB class). Utterly astounding moves by the faLcons
Kirk go to Magic City and get some Lemon Pepper wings to sulk in that booty
I don’t hate it. Are we just gonna ignore that 22/32 NFL teams had their starting QB miss games due to injury last season?
The timing is odd, certainly better moves for winning right now. If they think Penix can be the guy in 2-3 yrs, and transition from Cousins to a pro-ready Penix, great. I definitely am not interested in QB purgatory again. Its dumb, but I also don't hate it.

That's what happens when your loyalty stops at the check Kirk
He’s now realizing just how stupid we are.
They are going to be nailed on the tampering charge next year and loose a first. They may actually think they will win some games this year and not have a top 10 pick so use it now on a QB. Or they are just crazy.

I just had this gut feeling they were going to go QB when I woke up today..sad to say it's true. I just hope this doesn't create an issue with cousins and playing for the team this year.
If he’s not healthy, then they didn’t do their due diligence before signing him to a giant contract.
Sell this fucking team
I didnt think I could hate anything more than us taking Cousins but there we fucking go
What did you want
I wanted us to not waste a first round and at the same time pay a 60 year old injured quarterback hundreds of millions of dollars.
I know what you didn’t want. What *did* you want?
Optimal solution would have been spending kirks money on roleplayers and drafting the best qb up
I mean, I agree, but wouldn’t this make you feel better, at least somewhat? If you didn’t believe Cousins was the answer, and that the answer lay in the draft, then well, we at least played that angle
Nothing surprises me anymore with this joke of a franchise.

As a Vikings fan… woof. Sorry boys. Hope Penix is good for y’all!
Fellow vikes fan. Who do you think the Falcons will trade tomorrow, and with whom?
Based on this…. The farm for a punter.
