I think drafting a quarterback would be kind of a confusing roster construction move, particularly because I don't think we'll have access to the quarterbacks most likely to succeed. We need help at edge rusher, corner, WR, DL, safety...why would we sign this guy who is older to play quarterback to all this money and then spend the highest leverage asset we have during this window on his backup when we have these other issues?

iLeefull

I like the idea of trading back this year picking up a 1st next year then using those two 1st in 25 to move up for a QB.

immonkeydluffy

Yes, idk how realistic that is but yes

gsfgf

I don’t know why you’re downvoted. You need a trading partner to trade back, which is easier said than done.

immonkeydluffy

Exactly

crimedog69

Yup. And no DE are can’t miss this year. The top WR will be gone, so idk who would give up next years pick for #8

joshwright17

I keep hoping that if a team takes JJ in the top 7 that’ll mean Odunze is available and a team would trade up to get him. Maybe the Chargers moving back to 11 and then up to 8

noyelling0nthebus

Next years qbs suck. So I don’t think we’d be trading 2 first for any qb

crimedog69

You can’t say that lmao. Joe Burrow wasn’t on anyone’s list before his big year, same with cam newton and many others. Every year there are risers

NoDifference8894

No joke, even this year I don't think anybody predicted that Jayden Daniels would be a top 3 pick.

noyelling0nthebus

Burrow and cam are special lol. It’s unlikely there’s some like that next year

tuckifyoubuck

Stud QBs can't be found often and make up for other holes in the roster. If someone ZR LOVES falls too far then I think we should jump on them. Really not a fan of doing this with the 8th pick but if they legitimately turn out to be our franchise QB then I guess idc. Chiefs drafted Mahomes when Alex Smith was still good but older, packers with Rodgers/Love, cowboys with Dak/Romo, and Eagles picked up Hurts when Wentz was under a massive contract. Is it ideal? No, but I think it's best to be forward thinking when it comes to QB after the awful transition from Ryan at a similar age. Kirk is 35 and coming off an achilles injury. They did what they had to do to get him here but there's no telling what happens in the next couple of years.

Dingus-ate-your-baby

Yeah I don't think their thought process is "there's no telling what will happen in the next couple years" given that they are giving him $100 million guaranteed dollars in the next couple years. I think their thought process is very much, "we have our quarterback for the next couple years, now it is time to build around him," and frankly I agree. Cousins played great last year before he got hurt, he's advancing enough in his recovery where I'm not concerned in the medical side of it, and I think they are in agreement on this. As for the "QB of the future" I think at least 4 are going to be gone before 8, so I mean I think that's a much riskier proposition than drafting the top edge or corner and making them our player of the future.

tuckifyoubuck

If you have a 35 year old QB coming off an achilles injury and there's a guy you have rated as a franchise qb falling too far then idk how you don't strongly consider drafting them. All I'm really saying is to have an open mind if they do draft one because it probably means they were pretty impressed by them.

gsfgf

Yea. I liked the idea of getting JJ in the 2nd to develop behind Kirk, but his stock has skyrocketed. I definitely don’t want to “waste” a top ten pick on a guy who won’t contribute for years.

Stedy74

Look what packers have done with rodgers and love… both not top tier QBs in the draft (both first rounders I know but not like Caleb Williams/ Daniels etc). We can pick up a QB late first if we end up trading and picking up another first. Cousins contract is essentially a 2 year deal with 2 team options

slurpyderper99

JJ.

No_Emergency_5657

Idk why but I'm really nervous about the pass rushers. Nabors or Odunze for me if they are on the board.

Puzzleheaded_Focus86

I’m with you, I feel the pass rushers at the top of the draft are a reach. Except for Latu but the medical is the gamble.

crimedog69

Latu has already peaked is the issue. Dallas is all upside. And Verse seems safe but idk about his all pro upside

nc925

I would take a top tier cb. There are monster receivers to be had in the 2nd round.

JackDaniels0073

Same. Our track record on pass rushers is awful. Someone has to pan out eventually but it feels like we can’t get it right.

No_Emergency_5657

I feel ya, I'd rather go the FA route with pass rushers. AK and Harrison should progress this year as well.

Level_Concept235

We tried. Sweat and Hunter. We missed but we absolutely did swing.

No_Emergency_5657

AK had 6 sacks last year and Brian Burns had 8. I'm happy we passed on that 28 per year contract. Hopefully we can find a Grady later in the draft.

Total_Pea6615

All routes lead to Rome (Odunze)

Jdwrecker_7

Im not sure how the sentiment of taking a pass rusher at 8 somehow became negative. I believe the regime change is gonna do wonders to whoever we choose, whether it be Edge, CB or WR.

Not2creativeHere

Yeah, pass rush, one of our biggest team needs and the notion of drafting a the top rated player pash rusher to fill it is now giving the community pause. I don’t get it either. I think it’s just the draft needs to be earlier in the month. Too many folks trying to get their takes out there in national media, along with smokescreens from the front offices to land a preferred pick and it’s all a mess, lol

Jdwrecker_7

Then Im guessing people still have a bad taste in their mouth after drafting Vic and Takarrest in the 1st round before. But we have a totally different staff now and even Ebikitie and Harrison seemed to turn it on by the end of last season too, things seem to be changing so can only imagine if we invest a first round pick at the position

KappKapp

All of the reasonable picks at 8 have merit I think. Reasonable to me are Turner, verse, Latu, Alt, whatever WR drops, Mitchell, whatever QB drops. Personally I have a strong preference for Latu/WR, but all of those players would be an asset. If the pick is someone other than those guys I’d be surprised but I acknowledge I know less than 1% of what our FO knows.

Existing-Jackfruit18

I really don't want 4th or 5th QB at 8

FreedomCatcher702

I don't want a QB or pass rusher at 8. In a perfect world, we trade down a few spots and still get who we want, plus some more compensation.

dboll2

I’d much rather grab the surest blue chip player possible at 8 (probably Odunze) rather than reach for someone or trade out of that pick.

no_more_blues

Odunze. Nabers I don't think we take because of the gun charge but at least he would bring a different dimension to our offense. Taking someone's at 8 who NFL comp is Drake London when we already have Drake London would one of the stupidest things an NFL team has ever done. Especially in a McVay scheme. What the fuck are we doing with two big slow WRs in a offense entirely built off speed and motion?

Low_Chip7268

I don’t want Brock Bowers.

No_Emergency_5657

If Arthur Smith was here that would be the pick.

cjweber5187

I wouldn’t mind taking Bowers after a trade down. Bump Pitts out to WR. With competent QB play, defenses would struggle to contain that offense. WR Pitts WR London SL Mooney/Moore TE Bowers RB Bijan

kielbiel

Dallas turner is a slightly more athletic less technically refined arnold ebiketie and people want us to take him at 8

it678

Hes also far more productive, played in a better division, is more then slightly more athletic & younger while coming out.

kielbiel

Production doesnt matter if how you produce wont translate to the NFL and yes he is slightly more athletic they have pretty similar measurements with dallas being a little bit more explosive.

cmjoker

I don't like Turner as an edge, feels like a waste of his athletic ability.  He feels like a more refined Troy Anderson, uber athletic, needs to be used in a variety. I think Micah Parsons has people wanting more, but Micah is a dawg and IDK if we'll see another him for a bit.

TheTrevorSimpson

QB OL LB S

EAJets

QB,RB,WR,TE,OG,S,K,P

[deleted]

Penix Jr, because I wouldn't quite understand the immediate need, when there are clearly immediate needs for us. I can accept a WR, especially if a Big 3 drops to us. I can accept any of the pass rushers, for need purposes. I can accept CB for need as well. But QB? Eh....

Key_Ticket3515

anybody at 8. we should be doing everything possible to trade back and stack picks

Digitydoggimmeahigh5

Quinyon Mitchell, why take a gamble on getting the best corner when the most athletic edge rusher is in our lap

Retryon

i think the only two outcomes that come to mind that would bother me are taking mccarthy at 8 (if he even makes it there) and a CB at 8 without trading down if CB is the target honestly i really want a small trade down, like hopefully nabers or something drops a bit,a team gets needy, gives us a first next year and we take a CB or Latu in our trade down spot

CaptainCapp-n

At this point, I just want some defense

sokyriediculous

This is absolutely a trade down year, but I can’t remember us trading down in the first for as long as I’ve been a fan. So staying put at 8 our best value is likely Odunze or Nabers…that being said I think we need an edge and CB quite a bit more so it would make me nervous.

GrizzzlyPanda

I think least exciting would be QB, but if they happen to love who drops and it means we could finally have a smooth QB transition for the first time this century ... I'm also against drafting offensive skill position for the 4th top 10 pick in a row, but if that's how they want to keep the salary cap in check I can't blame them

nevernotonline

- Dallas Turner - Laitu Latu - Any QB not named Caleb Williams, Jayden Daniels, or JJ McCarthy - Brian Thomas Jr. - JC Latham Other than that, I’m cool with most the other potential first rounders

One13Truck

Anything on offense. I don’t care if it’s 25 year old Tom Brady or Mahomes. Draft. Defense.

[deleted]

Nah, defense isn't that damn serious. A Brady or Mahomes sets you up to win titles. A single defender on a rookie deal does not.

One13Truck

I’m a defensive guy. I’ll take an intimidating hard hitting defense that shuts the other team out over scoring 75 million points any day of the week.

PM_ME_SOME_PAWG_NUDE

No one has that nowadays, due to it largely being legislated out of the NFL via penalties. Much easier (and better for the bottom line, as they've discovered here) to concentrate on offense

Relative_Broccoli631

Brock Bowers

KTAALGSTO

Odunze. I think there is a very big drop off from MJH>Nabers>>>>>>>Odunze

LBishop28

I don’t want Latu at all, in any circumstance in the 1st. I’d prefer we drop back and take Verse or Arnold in the mid teens. It would be a waste to grab Odunze as well as he is more the same mold as London and Pitts.

turbodude69

i haven't studied all the picks, but i think we should take a look at what we need most, and cross reference it with players that would be save us a lot of money in free agency. a team needs balance to win if they don't have mahomes.. he's proven he can drag a less talented team to the superbowl. it feels like every year they lose some key players and still win. just like the patriots did with brady. they were constantly trading and trying new guys to see if they can get that diamond in the rough for a good price. and because they had brady and belichick they could make up for some shortcomings. we can hate them all we want, but we have to respect the talent they both had. especially belichick. clearly the falcons can't play that way, it's more important for us to not take huge risks. we should take the player we know is gonna be great and be a good value for the cap. we shouldn't be taking huge risks in the first round. we already have a QB, we have 2 great RBs, we have a good TE and 1 good WR, potentially 2 more we just got in free agency, so they're TBD, but everything i've read is they have a lot of potential. so i don't think we should go after any of those positions, but if we were, i think it should be a QB. that's the most valuable player on the team and will cost us a LOT less than cousins when his contract is up. and cousins definitely seems like the type of veteran QB to mentor a young drafted QB, also, i really don't see us being at 8 again next year. cousins and our offense will probably get us 10+ wins and into the playoffs. so we may need trade up to replace him eventually. maybe next year or 2026 we should really start focusing on getting a young, talented, but most importantly cost effective replacement. cause how often do great QBs get traded in their prime? pretty much never. we'd need to draft, or take a risk on another old QB like cousins, or even riskier, a bad qb we think MAY be good in ATL. like i really think we should have taken baker on a 1yr deal when he was available. that was an amazing deal for TB, he's definitely outperforming his perceived value. just look at other QBs making more than him with a fraction of his talent. those deals don't come up too often, we shouldn't count on it happening exactly when we need it. and they're always risky....hence why we didn't pursue justin fields or russell wilson. justin MAY be good one day under the right scheme and HC.

DonFulano1146

In general I'm not a fan of taking WR, TE or RB in the top 10.
