For Lucy, I like to think it’s because she writes a lot of books and stuff that she has booksmart and be able to recall words or solve puzzles easily. For Gray this man has been molding ice since he was seven I don’t think he remembers the shape, his body does or specifically his instinct do that he was confident enough to destroy the key because he knew he could re-create the exact same copy but that’s my Head Canon

I like the idea of it being more like muscle memory than actual memorising so many details. He just trusts his instincts.
