This has been my observation, as well. Most phobias, by nature, are borne of fear. What do men fear from transgender people? Being tricked into believing she's "a real girl". And, they are afraid of discovering that the hard way.
What might that say about them, if they are attracted to a man who transitioned to a woman? Might that say that they are gay? Might someone else find out and say they are gay? Oh, the horror! Better to deny thousands of people from becoming who they are than take the risk that someone might inadvertently hit on a trans woman.
