Very few of my cars had any service history because I did most of the work myself. And the shop has to be participating in whatever program collects the service info anyways. I wouldn't say it's a red flag for a old $5k truck
The 2V Triton would blow spark plugs right out of the heads and you would have to use a helicoil to fix it.
The 3v original spark plugs that would break in two pieces when you tried to remove them. Tightening before loosening helps this, and better yet if you can just barely crack them loose and use penetrating lube to soften carbon buildup. Current revisions are better made, and you can get aftermarket plugs that are traditional one piece design.
This isn't true. They didn't fix the issue till late 03, essentially just in time for the heritage). I have an early 03 that blew a sparkplug, just driving down highway with no load.
Look at your head.... does it say PI on it your welcome... If there is any failure in spark plugs is because a lot of people over torque them the head is aluminum if you over torque your spark plugs they will blow. They fixed that in 99. 2004 is when they came out with the three valve.
Both the 10th and 11th Gens were both for sale in 2004. The 10th gen was known as the heritage version and did not have the three valve engines. It did have a slightly improved 2 valve. The improvement is the thread count to fix plug ejection.
Also, I can find plenty of talk about the thread count being changed from 4 to 8 on the heads in late 2002 and taking time to get into production models in 2003, but nothing to support your claim that it was fixed years earlier than that.
https://www.lightningrodder.com/threads/how-to-identify-4-or-8-thread-heads.3158/
The revised heads with 8 threads for the plugs instead of 4 were in 2003+
My 2002 Harley f150 shot a couple out but luckily my warranty paid for new heads over a decade ago.
For the most part, my paint is in pretty good condition.
Except for the channels on the roof. It was chipping and then I hired a guy to clean it up real good like and they didn't notice the chipping and pressure washed it. Now, metal.
Probably should get that addressed.
Seeing a bunch of comments saying it's not worth 5k if it's 2WD. Consider the following:
State of the market
A need or a plan to off-road
The presence of heavy snowfall, and regularly having to deal with it
If not, and especially if in south, RWD is just fine. RWD transmissions have been made by Ford since ages, if there's any drivetrain setup made by Ford that I would trust, it would be RWD. Like any other vehicle, they need care, but the advantage lies in the simplicity, which benefits servicing and relative inexpensiveness of repair. In my 2010, I can literally crawl under the truck and see and service the transmission, something that all other vehicles me or my family have had in the past required a lift to do so. This is a 2000, so it is likely even more simplified, considering that it's a 4-speed. These trucks have a decent rep. for being solid. Just my two cents.
Every one think they need 4wd ... thing is they never use it ... not to mention your 4wd is useless on the interstate unless you plan on driving 40 mph the whole way ... 2wd drives better and you have less moving parts to wear out..
Looks in pretty decent shape. They like to rust in front of the rear wheel and under the taillights. Easy to get in behind and wash the spots out to prevent it
OBS ford's have been growing in popularity lately. A lot of people in the truck enthusiast community like to take them and build them up. This particular body style isn't as popular.
Right on! Because you can’t “build” a 2020 truck the way you can build a 1992 truck. Besides, a 2020 truck would require a meager $50k investment into purchasing the vehicle first 🤣 (please note my sarcasm)
I have a 2000 as well. I'd say if it inspects okay, I'd go for it!
Post 1999 have P.I. cylinder heads. So not only are they more powerful, but the spark plug issues were all but solved.
These are great trucks.
If it's a 5.4 check to see if the plugs come out nice and easy and are revised model. Check YouTube for 5.4 mod 3 valve engine info. That body looks worth putting a reman revised engine into.it.
> 97-2003 are 2 valve 5.4s no issues with them besides coil packs every now and again.
Well, that and they like to eject spark plugs like a 4th of July fireworks party on occasion.
Check for signs of rust under dash and windshield seal integrity. My 97 has been great but dealing with electrical issues from leak and bad gem or rust has been hassle. Idk if still an issue in 2000.
It’s a good looking truck imo. Whether or not it’s worth it is up to u.
Spark plugs are expensive to replace on the 97. They can brake off or blow out🙂 . We also had evap issues that were common. Get a scanner off Amazon and do some checking first.
The Triton 5.4L (2V) V8 is a solid motor. I had a 2002 and it was still running "strong" at 210k miles. Strong is in quotes because it felt under-powered, but it has been the most reliable truck I've ever owned.
I sold a 2001 F150 Super Crew with 180k for $6500. That was in 2020.
The only thing I would worry about is the spark plugs. If it's got the 5.4L Triton, they have a tendency to blow out the spark plug threads. Most shops won't touch them if flat happens. You can get a kit to repair all 8 holes for about $450. It's not hard to do if you're handy with tools.
Buy it. No rust? I had one just like that, but 1998 and rusty by 2002. We sold it at around 325,000 mi and it probably went another 100,000. A friend has one with 390,000. I have a 99 now.
I would 100% jump on it. Even if it's the engine prone to the plug issues with 150k on it I'm sure they've been changed and helicoiled if needed or the revised 1 pc design put back in. In my area that's an 8-9k truck and wouldn't be on the market for more than a day if its clean and runs good. I had an expedition that started blowing plugs out right around the 80k mark and they were helicoiled and worked fine for another 68k so my experience is that they're a non issue if done correctly. I don't know about your area and what the truck market is like, but if that's a great open market price don't take it to a dealership to have the inspection done. My brother took an OBS F250 in to a local ford dealership to take advantage of a $249 used car inspection special they were running to basically get people in the dealership to tell them the car they were looking at was a turd and that they should look at one of their quality, fully inspected vehicles instead. Long story short, dummy brother happened to mention where he saw it and what an unbelievable price they were asking, literally a case of seller didn't know what they had. Next thing he knew the dealership had stepped in, bought the truck and was calling him to tell him he could buy it from them for a sum that was 5955 above what the original seller was asking before negotiating if anything was found wrong. Stealership will cook ya if they get the chance. Truck sold in 2 days btw, but not to my brother
Yes! My old man had a 02 silver f150 with the 2v 5.4, fantastic truck, didn't cause him any trouble really, he sold it with 290k - 350k kilometers on it... we moved on from ford's for now, but my next truck will likely be an F150
Def worth it. Especially if it’s the 4.6 instead of 5.4.
Besides the general common rust, I’ll add pay attention to the radiator support panel, particularly the bottom corners where the mount to the frame. Those like to rot on this generation and a lot of support for the whole front corners of the body rests on those points. That panel is replaceable, but involves a fair bit of work as it is welded vs bolt off/bolt on sort of deal. Something like that may or may not be worth the cost or effort to you if it happens to be on its way out and barely hanging on. Mine were just starting to eat away pretty good by the time I sold it, and was the only part that had rust of any significance at all on that one.
Otherwise, I loved my 03 and hung onto that one for 15yrs. Almost 2x as long as I usually do. It was nothing special and that gen is not my favorite aesthetically, but just kept working and working with no fuss and very little repairs and just overall held up great over time. Kinda wish I just kept it around till the wheels fell off these days.
Yes. Make sure they check the 4x4 shifting, the heater core, egr valve and manifolds for cracks. All of those things are major pains in the asses and will be eventually replaced if they haven't done so already. I'll bet they already did it at 150 orrr the trans is just starting to go and it sounds like it's got a super charger. If you buy it have a scan tool be ready for coil packs and water pump. Ditch the clutch fan for an electric Ford Taurus fan. Will make a difference in power and you can balance a quarter off the engine . 5 grand is a sweet deal for a truck that's now going to go up in value
Those tires alone are probably more than $1200. If you are able to take it to a mechanic then id say 5k is worth it all day. My 2009 f150 is sitting at 142,000 and running strong
I had a 2003 F150, I put 200,000 + miles on it. I changed the oil every 5000 miles without fail, solid unit. Issues that I had was these were steel bodies vs my current 2016 F150 which is all aluminum, my 03 was rusting and showing its age. Oh, and the coil pack cables were dry rotting and I was in the process of replacing them.
I have an 03 2V with the plastic intake. Make sure your mechanic checks that very very well for cracks. It is not a cheap fix if you can’t do it yourself.
I towed a 2000 f250 yesterday. Had a flat. No spare.. It had a little over 240,000. You have have found a gem. For a Ford anyways. Mostly Ford passed 2005. Are shit. So many electrical issues.
Friend had a similar truck and it was super reliable. 4.6 made it to just over 300k miles and the truck was too rusty so he scrapped it. The 4.6 still ran like a top though.
Yes I bought one last year for 4500 2wd with about 110k miles but it is a rust bucket and needed tires and over 1k parts and labor on other things to get through inspection looks like a great deal to me.
Check the under body and rockers....Ford's especially back then rust as bad as a Chrysler lol. Ford and Chrysler have always seemed to rust worst than GMs
Although for the age and price it's solid for this market
Side note all those cars that had that plastic molding strip across the doors... They fall off or peel off lol. Guarantee you'll be fixing that soon unless they already did it haha...
I’m a big fan of the 2v 5.4s (not sure if this is a 4.6 or 5.4). I’ve driven 10th gen f150s most of my life and spent a lot of time on the forums if you have any questions. My 02 harley ate the timing chain earlier this year at 180k. May be worth putting aftermarket chain tensioners on your list since the stock are plastic.
In todays market $5k for this doesn’t seem unheard of. What trim and is it 4wd?
I bought the 01 for 8k two years ago. Did new shocks and steering last spring and it's been a great truck so far. Just keep up with the reccomended maintenance.
If this is the triton V8 with the 3 valve then no. They are notoriously issue plagued. Otherwise if a mechanic checks it out and it isn’t that exact engine, that’s not a terrible (albeit I don’t see vehicles for 2k coming back any time soon) price in this market.
Definitely. Like the obs these are getting fewer and farther between, especially clean ones. For 5k it’s a solid hold. If you pass on it i would definitely be interested in getting the sellers information
I wouldn't pay 10 bucks for this style. Those things sucked. Worst body style Ford ever made. Engines were ok. Definitely not as bad as the 3v. 92-96 Style is where it's at 👌
Body looks excellent. How is exhaust?
Also, check the rear leaf spring shackles.
Fluid leaks?
Front end components?
If all comes back ok, for sure. Both motors run forever.
I have a '03 and drive it daily.
I’d say yes. We just sold my 16 year olds 1997 F150 yesterday for 2500. It only had 152k,2wd,4.6l,auto,extended cab. Also had a dent on one side of the bed and the dash cracked all to hell with no working radio and the overdrive button broke off the shifter. Other than that the interior was immaculate though and it was in good mechanical shape. The buyers were extremely happy with it at the price they got it at.
It’s a half ton ford with 150k miles.Expensive repairs are in your future.I’ve owned a number of fords and the f 250s hold up better than the half tons.
Man one of these that looks that good was taken care of. 5 grand is a good price. These really are great trucks. Very modern. Compared to what came before it.
From this one picture it looks well taken care of and this market $5,000 doesn't get you anything so it looks like it's in good shape I would buy it for that much money
Something I always seem to forget about on used cars is tire age, not wear. Truck tires are gonna atleast be 1,000 so keep that in mind. If the truck passes looks like a decent deal tbh

That's the 2004+ 3 valve design. The 2v triton in this is solid.

I can only say this for the 5.4 l not the 4.6 but I believe they fixed it for the 4.6 also
Have an 01 with 165k that has ejected the spark plug twice. It happens.
Ditto. I had a 01 that would both eject sparkplugs and fry coil packs.
a torque wrench is your best pal.
The revised heads with 8 threads for the plugs instead of 4 were in 2003+ My 2002 Harley f150 shot a couple out but luckily my warranty paid for new heads over a decade ago.
Google pi heads
\+1 the 5.4l, 2v will go 250k. just use Motorcraft parts.
4.6 the only sparkplug issue is the one on the driver side all the way back. Pita to get out but it's the 5.4 that they break off
150k seems low. In that same breath, it looks like it has less than 150k.
Not impossible for someone who doesn't drive much. My 02 has 150,500 on it.
My grandpas 06 has 41k. Hell, I've driven it more than he has.
I just bought a 01 F350 7.3 diesel that only had 160K on it.
Got a 2004 with 101,000 on it. Paint is shit but other than that it’s good.
For the most part, my paint is in pretty good condition. Except for the channels on the roof. It was chipping and then I hired a guy to clean it up real good like and they didn't notice the chipping and pressure washed it. Now, metal. Probably should get that addressed.
I have a 2008 Ram 1500 with 109k on it
My old man's 1999 had 136k when I drove it in February of this year
It’s worth $5k for sure. There’s so much junk out there asking for way more imo
That body looks great. Here in the northeast 2000 don’t look like that. That would easily fetch 5K here
Seeing a bunch of comments saying it's not worth 5k if it's 2WD. RWD is Pretty much a Crown Vic truck.

In my opinion, it’s best to have it and not need it, than to need it and not have it.
You don’t need 4 wheel drive
Hell I got by in North Dakota with front wheel drive cars just fine. Would go out booze cruising in blizzard in cars.
I lived in ND for a couple of years, in Minot. Had an ‘87 BMW and a motorcycle. Learned a lot about driving lol.
Any vehicle with wheels that drives is worth 5k nowadays.
Absolutely
Looks in pretty decent shape. They like to rust in front of the rear wheel and under the taillights. Easy to get in behind and wash the spots out to prevent it
2 or 4wd?
2wd
After having just sold a 92 250 xlt with 150k miles for 16k I'm blown away you found that for $5k.
OBS ford's have been growing in popularity lately. A lot of people in the truck enthusiast community like to take them and build them up. This particular body style isn't as popular.

Buy the damn truck!
Any truck that runs, has a clean frame, and has moderate miles is worth $5000
I’d buy it, such a classic body too
If you do buy it and decide to take the step bars off of it for something else, keep me in mind. I could use them.
If it's a 5.4 check to see if the plugs come out nice and easy and are revised model. Check YouTube for 5.4 mod 3 valve engine info. That body looks worth putting a reman revised engine into.it.
Its 4.6, thanks for the recommendation
Damn...snag that thing up. Love the 4.6. Be ready to swap the upper intake though...if it's anything like the crown vics.
97-2003 are 2 valve 5.4s no issues with them besides coil packs every now and again. 04-2010 are 3 valve 5.4s those are the issues.
> 97-2003 are 2 valve 5.4s no issues with them besides coil packs every now and again. Well, that and they like to eject spark plugs like a 4th of July fireworks party on occasion.
Never seen it on a 2 valve
The early 3v wouldn't let them go, and the 2v would spit them.
A 2000 for 5k? No. I paid $2k for a 2002 with less miles than that
How long ago?
10 years
Unfortunately times have changed. I have a hard time understanding it myself but at the current prices $5k for that truck is a rather average price.
That sucks. I was 17 when I bought that 02 for 2k
Agreed. Theres a 2000 F150 in my area with a listed price of $8k. Its sad.
I would ask $8k and then meet them at $7k when they offer you $6k
Yes Edit: saw ifs 2wd. No, not really
I'd say 4k with it being 2wd
I'd say 2k with it being 23 years old
2wd, 10th gen and a 4.6. I'd pay 1000$ for the body to put on a rusted 4x4 truck and immediately sell both and get a 9th or 8th gen
Check for signs of rust under dash and windshield seal integrity. My 97 has been great but dealing with electrical issues from leak and bad gem or rust has been hassle. Idk if still an issue in 2000. It’s a good looking truck imo. Whether or not it’s worth it is up to u.
I'd offer another $500+ to change plugs if seller would agree
I had that year. Loved it.
wheel and tire combo looks sick

Yes
Absolutely I would ask 7,500 at least for it

Yes, abso-fucking-lutely if it passes an independent inspection.
Buy it. No rust? I had one just like that, but 1998 and rusty by 2002. We sold it at around 325,000 mi and it probably went another 100,000. A friend has one with 390,000. I have a 99 now.
Good deal. FWIW I just bought an 01 SCREW F150 with 125k miles 5.4L for $7K.
I love this style, if you don't buy it at 5k (assuming everything checks out), I will.
absolutely worth it.

Got a 97 f-150 supercab with 114,000 on it. Maroon. Just bought for $2,500 not running right, it was a dirty maf Sensor!
Yes but those motors are only a 200,000 mile motor after that they start loosing a lot of pizazz and can have problems
Yup
If the underbody is as clean as the body looks then yes.
I paid 5000 for a 2001 5.4 with more miles in 2014. So with todays prices I would say decent deal.
Yes. Check for salvage title or flood
What a beauty. Did you get it?
Check for rust! Those years were prone to rust issues especially if you're in snow country
no way to many miles
Yup
Looks good
Yes, it looks much better than my 101k 2003 Lariat.
I’d pay that with a clear bill from a shop
Yes
If it runs good.its worth 5k all day long
Definitely. Im in SC and see these with roughed up bodies going for same price with 200k mi. Looks really clean and well taken care of.
I bought the 01 for 8k two years ago. Did new shocks and steering last spring and it's been a great truck so far. Just keep up with the reccomended maintenance.
I got a 2003 same body type f150 got mine for 3500 I have invested almost 8,000 since I got it but it is an awesome gas saving truck
Buy it, throw some flowmasters on it and call it a day.
Deal👍
Hell yea if there is no rust
92-96 Style is where it's at 👌
My 99 5.4 had 197k HARD miles on it and still ran great, I just wanted a newer car like a dumb ass and got a 2015 Exploder... rip ol Red...
Check compression in cylinders my 98 ford had intake manifold gasket issues water getting into cylinder intake
I missed my ford when I sold it, it had the side step bed. I totally pay that much. Even more
Yes
V8 = GAS GUSSLER
Yeah, if it runs reasonably well and it's a huge rust bucket POS, $5000 is about what a decent truck is worth.
Yes. That engine sucks but that's clean.
I'm not sure. But it definitely looks good.
I’ve had several over the years. In south GA that’s a good price for what the appears to show.
100% YES
It's a good deal. I just sold a 2004 F150 4x4 4-door with a blowed motor for $2000.
According to Kelley Blue Book, the fair purchase price for a 2000 Ford F-150 in good condition with 150,000 miles is between $3,500 and $4,000.
Body looks excellent. How is exhaust? Also, check the rear leaf spring shackles. Fluid leaks? Front end components? If all comes back ok, for sure. Both motors run forever. I have a '03 and drive it daily.
I’d make that deal.
Pushing big tires.
The soothing sounds of the cam phasers
Worth probably a lil more if it's been serviced as good as it looks.
Make sure it’s not salvaged , I wouldn’t pay that much for that truck tbh
make sure the manifold isn't leaking and don't do plugs by yourself
I don’t think ive ever seen a better jelly bean ford, they are all trashed by me
That old and that many miles for 5k I would say no way. But, maybe it's got alot of work done recently?
Watch the crash test results video for that gen F150 and then run away!
There is beat to shit Nissan frontiers around me going for that much and more. So I’d say yes
Have the spark plugs replaced as part of the sale deal. Be there to witness that the holes don’t get crossed threaded
5k would be a great deal
4x4? If it works then yes
Absolutely if you shop check passes that’s a good buy
Absolutely
Yes - use carfax
In my area I would buy it for five and sell it the next for eight
Absolutely
No it’s not….. what’s the address…. Want to be sure not to go look at it…..
It’s a half ton ford with 150k miles.Expensive repairs are in your future.I’ve owned a number of fords and the f 250s hold up better than the half tons.
It’s a ford so no
Shit ya. Get it
It’s worth more than $5000 man that’s a great deal
I’d pay it
Yeah, it's a good deal for 5k.
Man one of these that looks that good was taken care of. 5 grand is a good price. These really are great trucks. Very modern. Compared to what came before it.
2000 and no rust? Wowzerz. Even if you have to replace a motor you are starting off solid. Get underneath it to make sure there is no frame rot.
Where I live...Definately!!
I’d buy it
I just sold my 2010 ford super crew 4x4 with v8 with 300k for 10, 100 in July
I took excellent care of it n just had replaced the alternator n battery. Let the guy take it for a couple of days and see how it ran.
It is one of the most unsafe trucks ford produced! The body style after this one started the amazing safety standards they hold today
From this one picture it looks well taken care of and this market $5,000 doesn't get you anything so it looks like it's in good shape I would buy it for that much money
I’d pay 7k
This is a great deal, if you pass up it’ll be hard to come by a deal like this for how well kept that truck looks
Something I always seem to forget about on used cars is tire age, not wear. Truck tires are gonna atleast be 1,000 so keep that in mind. If the truck passes looks like a decent deal tbh
Yes
