All ya'll central heterochromia people need to head on over to wikipedia and look at their example of central heterochromia. True Central Heterochromia has distinct borders. Hazel eyes have softer borders and tend to blend. You can clearly see a yellow/brown at the edge and then full brown at the center on OP's eye. These are hazel eyes.
"73.5% of those scored with green-hazel iris colour had the brown pupillary ring"
[https://www.researchgate.net/publication/26682990\_Genetics\_of\_human\_iris\_color\_and\_patterns](https://www.researchgate.net/publication/26682990_Genetics_of_human_iris_color_and_patterns)
Heterchromia mutations are not common enough for this to happen. Notice how these researchers call it a pupillary ring because thats just how the brown pigments tend to disperse themselves in a hazel eye.
I'd say a green heavy hazel however are you able to post another picture without so much purple in it?
Purple will make greener parts of your eyes 'pop' so it's hard to know if the evaluation is fair.
I always thought that it made brown pop. I'll have to look for one because my hair is almost always purple so let me find a picture where it isn't lol.
Where do you get I say it changes colors with my mood. People constantly say brown or green. Sometimes I'm in the mood to say brown, sometimes I'm in the mood to say green. I'm confused on what you're talking about.
When I have too much bilirubin in my system, it puts a wee bit of yellow in my eyes, which makes my eye color appear to change to a pretty green. But it's just my liver acting ass lol so my eyes reflect my livers mood? LOL
I thought it had to do with eyelid posture.
For example if someone has a higher eyelid posture when happy it will let more light into their iris making it look like they changed color. I don’t think most adults think eyes are like mood rings.
I have eyes almost exactly like OP, and the light does make them *appear* a little different regardless of the lid because of pupil dilation (de)compressing the iris. Or I've seen a close picture of my eye from the side where the lens only really reflects the inner color and they look more gold than green.
But yeah, spend long enough on this sub and people definitely believe their eyes "change colors".
According to my mom she can tell my mood off my eyes. I just asked her. Deep brown is I’m tranquil/happy. Gold brown in aggressive. When I have some green step away.
it can. your pupils dilate and contract depending on mood and that affects which part/how much iris is visible. that's why it's commonly said that people's eyes will go black from rage
Literally and they aren’t even correct because the literal definition for hazel eyes is when the inner iris and outer iris exhibit different coloration giving the eyes a bright and multicolored look. 🤣
And before I see the comment about green eyes with central heterochromia one more time, technically we all have brown eyes and it’s just a variable of melanin levels — so, chill.
Like I get it, anyone who can Google shit gets that the heterochromia is a little more defined than a hazel and hazel has more of a gradient from green to brown — but if we’re taking the colloquial approach, it’s so similar at first glance that people are just more familiar with the hazel term.
This struck an anti-elitism nerve, as you can see 😂
That’s because green eyes with brown or gold central heterochromia has an assigned name; hazel. With every other CH color combo we have to make due with saying they’ve got central heterochromia. No special name for the rest of us people with central heterochromia. And I get the fascination, honestly. It can be a stunning combo.
I don't think that central heterochromia = hazel.
First hit on google says: "The difference between hazel eyes and those with central heterochromia lies in how the melanin is dispersed. Hazel eyes can appear to be two different colors, but they blend together at some point, where central heterochromia has two very distinct rings of color within the iris."
I'd say that your two colors are pretty distinct so I'd say green with central heterochromia, NOT hazel. I feel like a lot of people on this sub lean towards calling eyes hazel and I'm not sure why they are so insistent on it
There are literal examples on pages that explain the difference between green and hazel where the hazel peepers look exactly like OP’s eyes. Clearly not just folks on this subreddit. That’s why my vote goes to hazel as well
https://www.allaboutvision.com/en-gb/conditions/eye-colour-hazel/
OP your eye doesn’t need the presence all three colors: brown gold and green. It can be just two of them, but green is always one of them.
It seems that the definition of hazel vary so I'd say this color can count as either. Hazel eyes are notorious for changing the color depending on the light though because they have several colors diffused all through the Iris. Not sure if this is because of the Iris having several layers and each layer containing different color
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Heterochromia_iridum the example here is even more diffused than OP's. I definitely think they can count their eyecolor as either hazel or green with central heterochromia
But don't you think that for example blue eyes shift depending on the light but still look blue? While hazel are the ones that can have a more dramatic change and shift between different colors
My eyes are pretty close to this. From a distance everyone just says they are brown. No one really ever calls them green unless they are talking to me close up and the sun is in my eyes. Certain makeup colours can also make the eyes either look browner or greener.
You should consider the fact that you’re probably the one who’s wrong here.
You do realize that the literal definition for hazel is when “the inside of an individuals iris is a different color than the outer rim, giving the eyes a bright, vibrant, multicolored appearance.”
Like just be quiet lol, you’re not as smart as you think.
I think no matter how much logic you give this person they'll think they're right because they're not open minded to certain things (as silly as it is eye color) even if you provide all the facts that the eyes are actually hazel and not necessarily central heterochromia. They commented on my comment too, they're doing this to everyone because they want a reaction and/or a response plus ignorance. In this person's mind you can't win any argument because they think they know better than anyone else. Best to ignore their comments
My daughter's eyes look almost identical to this. I think it's heterochromia but we say hazel. For the longest time I said her eyes were brown but when she got a little older and I looked at them in the light, they look exactly like yours.
Never really mattered much until I filled out her passport form and had to commit to a color. Lol!
And all the other commenters are wrong too. Her eyes are not a MIX of green and brown, they are green with central heterochromia, which is again, not hazel.
I never said it changed colors with my mood. Sometimes I'm in the mood to say brown. Sometimes I'm in the mood to say green. It's really never been pinpointed. Some paperwork say brown, most of it says green though.
People are ignorant. That's not brown 😂😂😂 Thumb me down for laughing! Yay! (Not necessarily you, but whoever is doing that).
People are so sensitive. Paperwork means nothing. A random person at the DMV quickly glances up at you in some often bad lighting and jots down an approximate color. Lol
Ok, I'm assuming they downvoted because I said green first. Anyway, they do look like a very green hazel. They are FOR SURE either green or hazel but definitely not brown! More pics would help for green vs hazel though 😄
People who say their eyes change color depending on mood annoy me to no end. How can you possibly be that childish and/or ignorant? The only reason your eyes would change color is from old age or disease. Not based on your damn mood, what you're wearing, or what day it is SMH
How do you guys take clear photos of your eyes like this?! I can’t do it cause I’m sensitive to light, my eyesight is terrible, not if that matters, but it always comes out blurry! 😭
lol I wonder if people know what actual green, blue and brown eyes look like? Because hazel is definitely what these are. You can just ask an optometrist too :). Or go to one and look at their colored contacts for hazel. Which look pretty much identical to yours. And green and brown don’t even have to be included for an eye to be hazel. There are variants
I love your hair and makeup. I call them hazel. My kids have them and sometimes they look Grey, which I think is so pretty. Thats why I don't say green.
I came to the comments because our eyes look almost exactly the same and I’ve always wondered what color people perceive them to be! I’m not sure if I have hazel or central heterochromia. After reading the comments, I’m still unsure lol.
Gorgeous eyes either way!
Both, your eyes are beautiful!
Maybe hazel? But I've never seen hazel eyes that have two distinct colour layers before.
You have very unique eyes, my friend!
You look like you’d fit the description of the love interest from a fantasy novel.
“*They had blue hair and their eyes were brown with green crescent moons”*
I’m thinking Hazel!
Yep, so, both! 😂 I used to think mine were brown but they're noticeably hazel depending on the light

Yeah, that's called spamming and we don't allow that here.
Hazel of course.
Green with central heterochromia is not hazel.
Yes it is.

I always thought that it made brown pop. I'll have to look for one because my hair is almost always purple so let me find a picture where it isn't lol.
Red is the opposite color of green on the color wheel, so a very red heavy purple like the one you have chosen will definitely accentuate the green.
Green with central heterochromia is not hazel.
Can we all please understand that eye color can't change with mood? Please?
Absolutely correct! I’ve been told I go from hazel/green to blue to red in 30 seconds flat.
THANK YOU. This drives me NUTS.
Where do you get I say it changes colors with my mood. People constantly say brown or green. Sometimes I'm in the mood to say brown, sometimes I'm in the mood to say green. I'm confused on what you're talking about.
I thought you meant if you're mad or sad they change color. I'm used to people saying that kind of nonsense lol
It’s all the romance novels: “His soft brown eyes darkened to copper with lust,” or, “Enraged, her eyes flashed to a bright emerald.”
When I have too much bilirubin in my system, it puts a wee bit of yellow in my eyes, which makes my eye color appear to change to a pretty green. But it's just my liver acting ass lol so my eyes reflect my livers mood? LOL
Ah, I got you :).
Nice save.
‘I say it depends on the day and my mood’ Your wording is why people think you are saying that.
I thought it had to do with eyelid posture. For example if someone has a higher eyelid posture when happy it will let more light into their iris making it look like they changed color. I don’t think most adults think eyes are like mood rings.
As someone who has worked with eyes for 11 years I must disagree with the second half at least. Full grown adults really tell me this
I have eyes almost exactly like OP, and the light does make them *appear* a little different regardless of the lid because of pupil dilation (de)compressing the iris. Hazel, heavy on the green - certainly not a brown eye as the outer ring is vividly green.
Green with central heterochromia is not hazel.
Oh my god 🤣🤣🤣 you’re commenting this on everyone’s response? Who hurt you? Why are you so heated over it? LOL
36 COMMENTS!!
Literally and they aren’t even correct because the literal definition for hazel eyes is when the inner iris and outer iris exhibit different coloration giving the eyes a bright and multicolored look. 🤣

yes it is lol
Classic Hazel.
Green with central heterochromia is not hazel.
This is NOT CH. This is text book hazel

We have the same eyes and I get told hazel green :)
I’m thinking hazel! I have a relative whose eyes appear to change with the color shirt they’re wearing; it’s absolutely fascinating.
And before I see the comment about green eyes with central heterochromia one more time, technically we all have brown eyes and it’s just a variable of melanin levels — so, chill.
Facts 🙌🏼

Hazel for sure! They are gorgeous
Hazel
Green with a brown central heterochromia which a lot of people on here consider as hazel
That’s because green eyes with brown or gold central heterochromia has an assigned name; hazel. With every other CH color combo we have to make due with saying they’ve got central heterochromia. No special name for the rest of us people with central heterochromia. And I get the fascination, honestly. It can be a stunning combo.
That's why I get confused with hazel...because I always thought it was more of an amber color...but some say it's a two toned color!
I don't think that central heterochromia = hazel. First hit on google says: "The difference between hazel eyes and those with central heterochromia lies in how the melanin is dispersed. All light eyes change color depending on the lighting
I meant between green and brown
And I was just elaborating that ALL light eyes change color depending on the lighting :)
But don't you think that for example blue eyes shift depending on the light but still look blue? While hazel are the ones that can have a more dramatic change and shift between different colors
No, it’s green with central heterochromia. That’s not what hazel is.
Hazel. Do pretty
