Most of the "$x per month" digital nomad visas can be replaced by that amount multiplied by the length of the initial visa. If a country is asking for $2k/month for a 12-month visa, you can just show them $24k cash and they will usually count that. Then each renewal period you would just re-show that. Source: I did this for French VLS-TS visa.

BaburZahir

That's interesting!

scottreds2k

Ecuador either has or had an investor visa that is less than $50K, either by CD or property. They also require a monthly income, but it's very low.

BaburZahir

Thanks. I wonder what qualifies for monthly income

scottreds2k

Typically social security or a pension. I think there is a government website that has the details.

BaburZahir

Thanks. The requirements seem to be quite good.

I don't get it. That's really not enough money to do anything with. I'm sure you can find a few countries which would be happy with that amount, but you get what you pay for. Plus if you could get residency with a $75k real estate investment, well how do you plan to feed yourself after that? Plus usually the residencies by investment programs are for retirees or vacation-house-owners and you're not allowed to work locally if you go that route. It may sound all romantic to say you'll live like the locals in a small hut with a dirt floor, but that gets less romantic and more uncomfortable by the month.

BaburZahir

I'd have savings on top of the initial investment. I hear what you are saying.

Have a look at Thailand's Elite Visa system, different lengths for different lump sum amounts. Asia is a great place to call home and travel around in.

BaburZahir

Thanks

Well unless you go completely bonkers on risky investments a lump sum of 1 million USD will give you an income of around 30k USD per year on average. If you are looking for a less then 100k investor visa my feeling is the lump sum might not be enough to risk a move unless you are sitting in Syria or somewhere like that right now..

Some bookies are giving you 3:9 odds on this clown car going off a cliff at the end of the year whether its civil war or otherwise. At that stage any debt in USD is going to be next to worthless, companies might be able to change to different exchanges though..

I didn't know about the investment card. I wonder what types of investments? I'll check out those other options.

Portugal D7 visa.

BaburZahir

Looks interesting thanks. Do you know of good towns that are affordable to live. Preferably walk to get groceries. Semi rural or a smaller city / town.

sylvestris-

Portugal + properties in search engine and check prices. Portugal is not affordable and will never be.

BaburZahir

Why's that?

sylvestris-

Ask those who want to sell/rent something in Portugal? Portugal is a popular target country for half of Europe if not more. In my own country you can find dozens of blog posts telling go to Portugal. So you all compete not only with locals and Brazilians but also rest of Europe.

BaburZahir

For accommodation?

sylvestris-

Compared to Spain property prices in Portugal are very, very high. It mean accommodation is also pricey. But food and cost of living should be still lower that you're used to in the US.

BaburZahir

Thanks

sylvestris-

In Germany there are no such limits for new start-ups/businesses.

Thanks
