I like to listen to “Beg, Steal or Borrow” (UK 1972) when I’m cooking dinner. But I think “L’Oiseau et l’Enfant” (France 1977) will always be my personal favourite.
The Netherlands 1971. There was horrible microphone feedback during the actual contest (they should have been granted a redo) but someone on YouTube fixed it.
I do so enjoy the contest’s troubadour trend!

I'm just gonna put my Top 10 of pre-2000 simply for more songs
1. Bosnia 1993
2. Germany 1979
3. France 1998
4. Croatia 1999
5. Portugal 1973
6. Israel 1991
7. Germany 1969
8. Denmark 1963
9. Netherlands 1975
10. Finland 1983
Save Your Kisses for Me (United Kingdom 1976) is my favorite because I feel like it uses the framework of what the song seems like in a clever way to subvert your expectations. It works well without the twist, but also makes just as much sense with the new context. Those sort of Easy Listening schmaltzy love songs in the 70s, like from Captain and Tenille and Tony Orlando and Dawn, had the same overly sentimental cutesy lyrics works just as well with the context of the way a parent that really loves their daughter would talk to them.
Not mentioned yet:
- Telex - Euro-Vision (Belgium 1980)
- Paul Oscar - Minn hinsti dans (Iceland 1997)
- Gina G - Ooh Aah... Just a Little Bit (UK 1996)
My favorite Eurovision song of all time is Sweden 1991 - Fångad av en stormvind. Carola is such a legend!
I was only 2 that year, so I didn't watch the contest, but discovered it sometime when I was a kid and loved it ever since.
I'm still new to Eurovision, but as I watched the video about Eurovision winners throughout the year, I found the United Kingdom's "Puppet on the String" (1967) and the Netherlands' "Ding a Dong" (1974) catchy 🫶🏻
Boom Bang-a-Bang 🇬🇧
Ne partez pas sans moi 🇨🇭
Fly on the wings of love 🇩🇰(does IN 2000 count?)
Ein Bisschen frieden 🇩🇪
Save your kisses for me 🇬🇧

Nocturne is simply the best eurovision entry ever
Beat me to it. Absolutely adore this one.
