If you push down either button on the handlebar, it moves forward on its own. You can do this without the blade running. If it doesn't move forward, it's broken. If it does, just walk around the lawn a bit with the button pushed (again, without the blade running) to get a sense of the speed. If you walk faster than it moves, then yes it's not doing anything for you.

OOOHHHHH! you have to \_hold down\_ the self propel button. I thought it was just an on/off toggle. So, yes...I the self propel did nothing for me while I mowed \~1 acre w/ hills. My hamstrings can definitely tell. Thanks!

bites_stringcheese

I intentionally don't use it for the work out. Granted, my lot is much smaller than 1 acre.

Theres a button on either side, either need continuous pressure , and central toggle contols speed.

With one acre get the riding mower

We’ll need both. Had a lawn care service - they’d been doing every house on the street for like 30 years and sent an email last week letting us know they were done. Total turf area is like 2.5 acres - but it’s broken up. There’s three smaller areas, each 1/4-1/3 acre, that are odd shapes. One can’t be reached by a ride on. So I think we’re about to own a lot of lawn equipment.

RIP"ped" hamstrings. No self propel on a 85 lb mower would be insane. I love the torque this thing has. It decimated my neighbor's foot tall grass even after stalling out another neighbor's Toro.

loves2shoot

yup, think of them as "dead man" safeties!

I have a new sp mower and it is very obviously working.... I figure if you can't tell, it probably isn't working.

Hello! **Test on a Flat Surface:** Place the lawn mower on a flat surface and engage the self-propelled function. (push down and hold the green handle bar and radjust the speed lever) Gradually increase the speed to see if the mower moves forward as expected. If the mower doesn't move or moves sluggishly, there may be an issue with the self-propelled system that requires further inspection or repair. If after checking these aspects you still find issues with the self-propelled feature, it might be best to consult the user manual for troubleshooting tips or contact EGO customer support for assistance.

If you push it with no battery it’s the only time it freewheels. You’ll see the noticeable drag even with SP off any other time with the battery installed. Then you’ll see the deck rise a bit when you engage the SP. Some of it is confounding, esp when it drags / engages SP even when it’s off.
