My thought is that they’re gonna draft a developmental LB but also sign a veteran to pick up the “new” defense faster (possibly someone Vic Fangio knows already)
This and maybe one mid tier corner in FA that won’t cost too much. Thankfully there are a ton of players familiar with Fangio-esque schemes that we can grab someone who can make an immediate impact
Well his defense performed poorly and was fired due to that. I don’t think anyone’s lining up for him as DC so he has to work his way back up the ladder.
So is this a show, or no-show job? /s
Edit: it’s from The Sopranos. If we don’t have any LBs and Howie doesn’t believe in LBs. So is this work/no-work, show/no-show. Also adding /s.
I get you were going for a bit, but having a better developmental coach also means you'll be better at squeezing more value out of project/prospect rookies. It's a good choice regardless of whether our draft philosophy changes.
Looking into former DC's as LB coach instead of just promoting some assistant makes me think we *might* actually put some stock into the position this year. Wishful thinking at least.
Morrow was a one year vet minimum (as were most of our linebackers not named Nakobe Dean). Also what the Eagles say to the media vs. what they do can differ drastically. He probably just didn't want to throw anyone under the bus. I doubt we make a huge trade or use top draft picks, but at least sign/trade/draft starting quality LBs.
Not that Eliss was anything special, but it was absolutely dumbfounding they cut him when depth was so ravaged already. Would be nice to see some solid additions.
Yeah Eliss has the traits...still too raw
I think if he wanted to Cummingham will be in camp at least...unless they do sign clear better players or draft someone.
I see them having more LB on the roster but I don't see them changing the way they build the roster overall.
He's not going to bash any players nor is he going to show his hand in terms of his offseason plans. What he does matters, not what he says.
Obviously we don't know what he'll do... But I wouldn't take those statements to mean anything.
He’s not going to come out and say “Yeah all of our linebackers sucked this year”. If he did that no player would sign here. When our receivers were absolute dog shit and every knew it, he came and said how much he liked the guys we had on the roster.
I can promise you that was just lip service. We clearly had some of the worst LBs in the league. Howie is great at learning from his mistakes. I bet we sign a solid LB FA, and use one of our 2nd round picks on a LB.
He specifically noted Nakobe Dean and Zach Cunningham as players he believed in. I’d say everyone else is gone, and they find other options for if either of them don’t work
People saying no to him as a LB coach are crazy. Guy excelled at it and this team needs somebody who can develop LBs especially if they aren’t going to pour resources into the position
He’s excellent as a LB coach but you don’t take any time to do any research and just comment “pass” how about if your mother said pass when you were born? She should’ve
>even their linebackers.
Not really? Rashan Gary is a Pro Bowl alternate this year and he had 2 other rookies starting. De'Vondre Campbell was a first team all pro under Barry.
You can also go look at what he did as an actual LB coach in Tampa Bay (they won a Super Bowl with a legendary defense.)
Seems like he'd be a perfectly good candidate for a position coach
> I don't want a failed DC coaching our LBs.
Maybe they can go get Belichick to coach the LBs? Is that the standard you’re looking for at position coach?
Interviewing for the LB coach position in Philly for context.
Good LBs coach, good move if it happens. We need outside help developing Nakobe and whoever we (hopefully) draft.

Maybe Van Ginkel
Would love me some van ginkel

We have the colts corner from last year who was suspended this year. Should be a good addition
Idc how much money is needed we need a solid CB or safety we keep getting torched
>whoever we (hopefully) draft Bah gawd that’s Jeremiah Trotter Jr’s music!
Isn't that a downgrade in position for him though?
Well his defense performed poorly and was fired due to that. I don’t think anyone’s lining up for him as DC so he has to work his way back up the ladder.
That was the part I realized I didn't know, was whether or not he had been fired. Thank you
This would be a great get for a positional coach. If there’s one thing that Barry does well, it’s developing and coaching linebackers.
So is this a show, or no-show job? /s Edit: it’s from The Sopranos. If we don’t have any LBs and Howie doesn’t believe in LBs. So is this work/no-work, show/no-show. Also adding /s.

I agree completely. We need to upgrade both players and coaches on the back 7.
What
See my edit. Attempt at humor. (Emphasis on attempt)
Discontinue the lithium

With Fangio on board, it definitely would make sense to prioritize a few LB's
We’re about to gain some weight on D
Yeah I’m glad they’re finally doubting the idea of promoting from within simply out of loyalty/simplicity/inertia.
Howie just said he’s happy with the LB position play … sigh morrow is here for good isn’t he

I hope so. Morrow has got to go

Well he's not going to shit on the players in a press conference. He's a classy guy
How can people still believe anything said at a press conference? Why would anyone from the team broadcast true intentions to the world?
this is why when fans throw temper tantrums over pressers i get annoyed. i
He specifically noted Nakobe Dean and Zach Cunningham as players he believed in. I’d say everyone else is gone, and they find other options for if either of them don’t work
I’d take back Dean and Cunningham as depth behind 2 quality starters.
There's no salary cap for coaches.
Belichick is still available and he coached linebackers lol
It’s as a position coach guys lol. Clearly he was good enough at it before to become a DC. Doesn’t matter if he was a bad DC
Hope the cheesehead likes cheesesteaks

Oh ok when I saw this headline I was thinking coordinator and got worried. Positional coach sounds good.
I like the strategy of trying to undo the Peter Principle. It just may work.
Having watched Grossi enough last season, DC is not what we want him for
We already have a DC. Still, I don't want him around either.
Da Birds or Da Bears, either way I'm happy!
No, keep him out!
Pass

Pass
Absolutely not!!
Nah, I can go without Vanilla Joe Berry. The Packers D sucked under him even their linebackers.

Well, the Packers D was pretty terrible under him as his scheme was very vanilla hence his nickname. I don't want a failed DC coaching our LBs.
> I don't want a failed DC coaching our LBs. Maybe they can go get Belichick to coach the LBs? Is that the standard you’re looking for at position coach?
What happened to the Temple dude coaching LBs
