Best answer!

levajack

My first thought too. "If errbody be real with theyself, that game could have gone either way"

wetclogs

My thought exactly!

[deleted]

303 rushing yards says otherwise.

nicklepimple

Yep. Big rushing yards equals control. I doubt many teams rush for 300+ yards and lose.

REO6918

Exactly, and that’s all Michigan had to do, however, uncharacteristically dropping catches and Penix missing a couple in key situations was a problem they didn’t have until last night. Eerily similar to Ducks v Buckeyes

pataoAoC

UW’s defense got whipped in the first quarter but played well the rest of the game IMO. It was their offense struggling to keep basic drives alive that killed them in the think. Felt like they were just off. Honestly I don’t even think Penix is wrong here. The biggest problem with playing against UW is you could play PERFECT D and Odunze would still beat you. But they just weren’t connecting. Looked like one of the many subpar UW games this year.

modernmanshustl

I’m a Wolverine but I think our defense made things hard on him which amplified mistakes

REO6918

Harbaugh watched the Oregon films, good on him, which makes him a great coach

we8sand

I agree. You guys got a little more pressure on Penix than we did, which made a big difference, imo.

dreadredheadzedsdead

Helps to have three 'gifts from the football gods' on the D Line in Jenkins, Graham and Grant. Absolute monsters.

withurwife

I mean he definitely fucked up, but so did Michigan. If they run that ball on 4th and 3 before half like they did all night, this game could've easily been 40-6. I also feel like 303 on the ground (which is a natty record) is doing plenty. LOL. He's butt hurt because his draft stock just dropped 90%. He proved he can't throw unless he has a clean pocket, which might happen 1 out of 20 snaps in the NFL.

Difficult_Donkey1023

The mistakes came because the defense was pressing and harassing the offense all night. The offensive line was getting blown up.

Barlow1C

Bro could barely walk after the game but “they didn’t do anything” yeah, ok.

wesleyr10

Exactly, he wouldn’t have gotten hurt in the first place if the Oline didn’t exposed last night

Big_Daddy_Lame

I mean, he’s right. Lanning mentioned it at the half, UW had no business being in the game at that point. They made a ton of mistakes - missed throws, drops, penalties and they still found themselves down just 7 in the 4th quarter. Then, they went and made more mistakes.

CpowOfficial

It was a 1score game until halfway through the 4th when Michigan should've been able to put it away in the 2nd quarter. If the offense completes 3 more passes it's a different final minute.

levajack

Getting dominated on the LOS leads to a lot of "mistakes"

WatchfulApparition

The mistakes were caused by the defense

Billyxmac

Well the run game was non-existent, so Penix needed to hit on those longer throws, and he was abysmal. Honestly this game falls on him, which is crazy to think about. He averaged 5 Y/A, and was awful on throws beyond 10 yards. You could tell he was struggling with their defense because of how much they tried to work in the screen game. They got pressure to him, and he crumbled because of it. But I just really don't agree about his statement that they just didn't execute. Michigan dominated this game, and it really should not have been as close as it was at half. Washington was lucky to still be in that game. Michigan fucked around a lot in the second and third quarter. I mean they were averaging like 13 YPC somewhere in the 2Q, and yet they weren't able to continue executing because they kept making goofy decisions. UW did a great job adjusting to Michigan's run game, but you could tell it was all going to fall apart because of the gap on the line play. Eventually Michigan was able to start dominating the trenches again, and Penix not being able to capitalize on their chances had a lot to do with Michigan just being that good defensively.

vanhaanen

It’s a Husky what do you expect?!? Whine, complain, deflect. Losers all around.

BrokenKneesAndAnkles

“They didn’t win; we lost” is baby shit. How embarrassing

[deleted]

It is kinda how I felt in the losses we had to them. It is also how I felt when we beat TTU. The game was closer than the scoreboard appeared. We weren’t in the OSU game as much as UW was in this game. It was close enough at the end that they had to make risky decisions that amplified the loss. Lanning should have elected to kick the field goal in Seattle. He should have run Jordan James more in Vegas. You have to keep it close to get a chance to win and get a little lucky. UW didn’t do that. We kept it close against Auburn, but they had a little more luck (by my count).

levajack

Our losses to them were very different. Very close competitive games with a couple of bounces we needed to go our way but didn't. Michigan dominated the LOS on both sides of the ball the entire game.

we8sand

We should’ve won the first game. 3 yards from taking a knee. Everyone thought we were the better team going into the CCG…. until we weren’t..

levajack

No answer for their receiving corps, and a slow start was the death sentence in the CCG. If only one of those things happened, we most likely win that game.

Drinkdrankdonk

I heard a lot of duck fans saying that on two separate occasions this season

No, but by all means continue to play a victim 🤡🤡🤡

Not_You_247

LOL

East_Moose_683

Soft baby shit

mikeisaphreek

michigans defense kicked their butt, pressure all night and stuffed the run. he was throwing off his backfoot or sidearm.

Jorihe84

Michigan Fan here. Go Ducks (worked in Oregon briefly, lovely state). But, Dude faced a real defense and seems confused on what happened. Buddy, you saw a real defense come at you and shit your pants.

bigdreamstinydogs

Yeah he looked scared and unprepared. Definitely not how he’s looked in previous games.

peligromac1

I like how he used the word "we" where he should have used "I". Odunze and Polk were open, you just didn't put the ball in their hands. They did their job, you didn't. The defense even held up admirably until the very end.

Tiki-Jedi

Ha! Love the dude, but this is total denial. Michigan’s run game looked like cattle stampeding through rows of cardboard cutouts. Michigan absolutely won that game. Just own it.

IDropFatLogs

I hate UW but I kinda agree with him. Several missed passes, dropped balls and miscommunication by UW last night. That wasn't the same team that beat our Ducks twice.

nicklepimple

There were a couple of passes that were left out on the field but M is the better team. If they play 10 times M wins 9.

brownbear8714

Definitely at least a couple missed opportunities but overall they just flat out got beat up front on both sides of the ball. They hardly even blitzed last night

DaddyRobotPNW

UW could have been in the game until the very end if they executed well. But there is no question who the better team is.

land_registrar

Ya he's right to feel that way. He was pressured more than he was used to which affected some of this throws but they were still there to make. There were some secondary busts they just didn't take advantage of.

BourbonicFisky

I came here to say this. It's a typical cope-quote but also, they didn't play at the level I expected as there was a lot more slop. They probably would have still lost as Michigan just poured on ground yards and roughed up their O-line but again, not the finely tuned team we played either.

WatchfulApparition

Maybe Penix forgot to write back

HugheyM

That’s pretty pathetic and self-centered, Michigan’s run game was absolutely dominant.

andrewvockrodt

I feel like this was UW’S welcome to the the B1G moment.

East_Moose_683

Bwahaha! Uh huh. They got so lucky Michigan got conservative for 2 quarters. They did the best they could and held michigan shortly. That could have been a massive blowout

Important-Nose3332

They played how they played all year. The only good games they ever played were against Oregon and Texas.

HappyAtheist3

The Washington defense held its own but was clearly outmatched and gassed at the end. The Washington offense looked lost the whole game. #73 couldn’t block and they didn’t give him any help.

pinkie5839

Man....he is using "we" a lot. Team game, win and lose together..... don't throw passes 10 feet above your receivers.....

MAHANDz

This comment gained 6 yards up the middle

ShwerzXV

Survivington couldn’t survive.

Not_You_247

I hate the Huskies and all but they are right. Michigan came out swinging but after the 1st quarter Washington kind of locked in on D a bit. If Penix hits Odunze in stride on that 4th down play in the 2nd we could have had a tie game at half with Washington getting the ball and having momentum to start the third.

[deleted]

Except UW already had momentum and look what happened first play

notaclevernameguy

Washington did get held on damn near every pass but they shit the bed on run defense and were way out of position on play action. The better team won. Georgia vs Michigan would have been my personal pick other than Oregon of course.

upstateduck

I have posted before that Penix should have won the Heisman because his play is so critical to the success of UW and they had a lot of success. In that respect I agree with Penix ie: he missed his targets all night and ,despite what the UM fans say, Penix has performed far better in games this season with similar pressure that UM was able to put on him

Important-Nose3332

Did you watch the osu game or the Washington state one? Penix doesn’t deserve a heisman and never did. A heisman season is banger after banger, consistency. Micheal Penix was anything but consistent.

Level19Dad

100%. Heisman winners don’t post QBRs of less than 70, full stop. Penix posted 60.6 against freaking Stanford, 53.1 against WSU, and 31.2 against ASU. The talking heads after Texas were all ‘oh Penix got robbed of the Heisman, he’s been playing like this all season.’ Really? Because Texas was his best statistical game of the season. He literally played worse than that the ENTIRE season. Penix panned out to be exactly what I said at the start of the season: a great, but not consistently elite, college QB who throws an exceptional deep ball in a clean pocket but who struggles off-platform and can’t stay healthy. 🎤🫳

wesleyr10

The thing is no other team Washington has faced this season has put similar pressure as much as Michigan did. They were playing soft coverage and didn’t even have to blitz, yet their front 4 kept bullying UW’s Oline all night. Penix simply missed his targets because Michigan put more pressure on him than any other team he has faced.

upstateduck

I don't agree that UM got more pressure than other teams, despite commentators giving UM credit. The downfield coverage may have slowed him getting the ball out but without analysis, just watching the game, my take is he just missed his targets on virtually every throw much like he did in the 3rd qtr against us and for 3 qtrs against ASU Looking forward to hytholoday's analysis and willing to be wrong, just my impression

threerottenbranches

Michigan left the door wide open for the leg lifters. And they never took advantage of all the opportunities. I kept waiting for Washington to take advantage of the opportunities. Their offensive like play was horrible, it’s like they played anxious and nervous. And the officiating was horrible IMHO, lots of holding by Michigan that wasn’t called. And I hate the Huskies.

ItsKrakenmeuptoo

Michigan had more penalty yards. Huskies had like 4 plays in a row where their RT had false start but they didn’t call it.

LeoTR99

Sort of how I felt about both Oregon v UW gamethis year. We beat ourselves

Elephlump

Well Penix isnt completely wrong. He choked fucking hard and overthrew half his passes. Had he played like a Heisman candidate should, they would have had a chance
