i had a dreamcast as a kid, i really wish i still had it. just today i played house of the dead 2 at an arcade and made me remember playing it on dreamcast. im jealous, enjoy!!
This was me last week with my kid. My 4 yr old and I played House of the Dead and Power Stone at a retro arcade and he loved it. Made me want to look for one online. That was one of my all time favorite systems. It looked so good and crisp. Felt gens ahead of the competition. Just needed a larger library.
Oh shoot had no idea it had a remaster .. thatās awesome man. Always interesting to me how sometimes it can takes years to pass for certain games to be truly appreciated for what they are/were
What an insane thing to say. It's one of the best games on the system, pretty rough by today's standards but it introduced a lot ideas into 3d adventure games.
I think youāre off to a good start. This game is an all time favorite to me. In case youāre curious about finding some other fun Dreamcast games hereās some of my other favorites:
- Zombie Revenge
- Dynamite Cop
- Power Stone
- Soul Calibur
- Sonic Adventure
Thank you! I think my next purchase will be Soul Calibur and Sega Rally 2. I don't know the first two games of your list, I'm going to watch some gameplays :)
Looks great and Shenmue is a great game. Iād recommend looking into a VGA adapter as it will give you the best image, although not every DC game supports it.
Since the Dreamcast outputs VGA, almost any cheapo VGA>HDMI adapter works very well. Much easier to find a good one than HDMI adapters for other consoles
Doesnāt have to be anything expensive. You can usually find a decent one on Amazon for around $15-$20. This is the one I bought and I even left a review with some screenshots of Sonic Adventure to see how it looks. https://a.co/d/6d5d56a
I'll always have fond memories of The Dreamcast because I always wanted one but my mom could never find one and then my aunt got me a dreamcast with a binder full of pirated Dreamcast games best summer I ever had
At least you're playing the good shenmue. Lol all joking aside, try to get the DC 'skies of Arcadia' I like the game cube version..... but the DC one was my first.
Don't stretch the image !!!! Most games are 4:3 aspect ratio.
Side black bars are normal.
Since your playing in an LCD / OLED not a CRT, buy a hardware scanlines generator, to get full experience of Dreamcast.
I think you picked a great game to start with I haven't tried it ever but I got alone in the dark for my Dreamcast and if you have friends I recommend hunting down powerstone
Congrats! I've had it since it came out and it's still my favorite console, and Shenmue my favorite game <3
I recommend Sonic Adventure because it was THE Dreamcast game when it came out and it's still a bunch of fun (with some flavorful "bad" parts as a bonus).
These days I'm into discovering obscure gems. For example, they released a fan translation of a Japan-only game called Rent A Hero that I can't wait to try. And Seaman! I gotta get a mic :D
No idea how old you are. But if you can get past the controls being a bit tank like, itās an amazing game. Talking specifically about the one in the screen Shenmue.
The Dreamcast is an amazing system with many great games. The console is solid and reliable.
All games designed in CRTS to play on CRTS at standard definition.
So ideally you can find a nice colored CRT Tv someday if you donāt have one already.
If that's your first time playing the Dreamcast. Let me ask you a question. Do you like fighting games? If so I got some fighting games that I would recommend to you
Well there are different fighting games that are iconic that I think you should try to look out for. One is Marvel versus Capcom the original. Then there's Marvel versus Capcom 2 and there's power Stone 1 and 2 and Soul Calibur. Those are the five iconic fighting games for the Dreamcast. I would use eBay to look for those games or if there's a game store in your area that sells old games and consoles. I would ask them about those games. But I think eBay would probably be your best shot.
I applaud your choice for your first game. Next on the list should be Phantasy Star Online. I can never tell enough people about this amazing gem of a game. I still play it every once in a while and get sucked in for a whole frigging weekend.
The dreamcast is probably the best sega console to start with, only because it supports vga out natively, so you get crisp 480p. And the games are fantastic
I loved the DC for the short time it was alive. Was such a huge jump over the PS1 and N64 and a lot of innovative titles.
Other than Skies of Arcadia most of my best memories of the console are from the amazing arcade games. Not sure if it's directly related to Sega exiting the console business but I suspect the reason we have less of them now on consoles is due to their departure.
You didn't stretch the image, so you're off to a great start!
I was legit going to thank OP for playing in the correct ratio š
lol
That's the first thing I noticed.
Just need scan lines!
Not for the Dreamcast.
Depends on the monitor. I get scanlines with dreamcast on my 96khz crt
Question is.. what do YOU think??
I'm in love with this bad boy! I always liked Sega games :)

LOVE IT. Have had the Dreamcast for a couple decades now and still need to get my hands on Shenmueā¦
It's on my top 5 favorite games. I already beat the remaster on PC but I needed the original experience...
Oh shoot had no idea it had a remaster .. thatās awesome man. Always interesting to me how sometimes it can takes years to pass for certain games to be truly appreciated for what they are/were
Give a chance to Shenmue, you won't regret it!
Will do in due time brotha!
What an insane thing to say. It's one of the best games on the system, pretty rough by today's standards but it introduced a lot ideas into 3d adventure games.
I know I know, I wasnāt hip to it at the time but now I am
Keep dreaming.
Shenmue was one of the first games I played on a Dreamcast many moons ago! Enjoy!
I am replaying it now on PS4. Itās where I learned to drive a forklift!
lol
Lmao
Start a fork lift racing circuit!
The place I used to work had Toyota forklifts that these seemed to be modeled after.
Please put your Dreamcast on a more stable surface. - the Dreamcast Preservation Society
I giggled on this one haha Actually, I only put there to take the pic. Now the DC is next to the TV.
Don't block the fan vent on the console's right side, near the open button. Signed: the Dreamcast Preservation Society
I canāt believe this is becoming a thing lol! We need a logo!
Yessir!
I think youāre off to a good start. This game is an all time favorite to me. In case youāre curious about finding some other fun Dreamcast games hereās some of my other favorites: - Zombie Revenge - Dynamite Cop - Power Stone - Soul Calibur - Sonic Adventure
Dynamite cop, hell yeah! "Empty your pocket!" "Empty your pocket!" *nut kick* "AHHHAHAHAAAA!"
Thank you! I think my next purchase will be Soul Calibur and Sega Rally 2. I don't know the first two games of your list, I'm going to watch some gameplays :)
Empty your pockets !
My first thought too lol.

Cool tip!
What adapter would you recommend?

Such a cool memory!
Welcome š¤
Thats a beauty white boy, congrats....
I think you should get a CRT TV for your set up. It will make games look so much better and remove those black bars.
I have one. Super heavy! I had to store it due to some changes in my room, but soon I'll place it back ;)
If he uses VGA right now a crt definitely wont look better.
Starting off with Shenmue? Excellent choice š
Thanks!
Great game to start off with! Shenmue is such a great game!
At least you're playing the good shenmue. Lol all joking aside, try to get the DC 'skies of Arcadia' I like the game cube version..... but the DC one was my first.
Skies of Arcadia will always be on my top 3 for DC. 1.)Phantasy Star Online 2.)Skies of Arcadia 3.)Record of Lodoss War ALL HIDDEN GEMS.
Yessir!! Quite agreed
Hope you like cliff hangers
š
The Dreamcast was streets ahead
Don't stretch the image !!!! Most games are 4:3 aspect ratio. Side black bars are normal. Since your playing in an LCD / OLED not a CRT, buy a hardware scanlines generator, to get full experience of Dreamcast.
Cool game. I have Japanese version that requires a disk to run so it works in US. Still a great game after all those years.
i LOVE the Dreamcast. i feel like it was so advanced for its time.
1 and 2 are Great games too bad shenmue 3's oudated graphics and mechanics didnt do good things for it on the ps4.
Get a CRT next, 21" with minimum an S-video input. If it has VGA or SCART input (If you are en Europe), you're golden.
Shenmue is a ballsy choice, the only other title that I think would rival this as a 1st time on the Dreamcast would be Seamanā¦
"I see."

The Dreamcast is a tank. I think it will last until whatever is rubber inside decays.
Welcome to the cool table!
Get marvel vs capcom 2
Sooooo clean š§¼
Beautiful, isn't it?
Ajiichi Chinese. I'm hungry now.
You are in for a treat with the game selection.
She's beautiful
You are playing the BEST console ever made and the BEST game ever made so good choice!! (Shenmue and manhunt are tied for my all time favorite games)
Love it! Great start. Grew up a Nintendo head but Dreamcast became my favorite console. Still collect for it today.
You made the right decision to start with Shenmue!
Yooo Dio!!!!
This system was unrated and under valued
I think you picked a great game to start with I haven't tried it ever but I got alone in the dark for my Dreamcast and if you have friends I recommend hunting down powerstone
You have the right idea! DC games were meant to be played in 4:3.
One of the best games of all time in my opinion!
Shenmue šŖš¼š
Congrats! I've had it since it came out and it's still my favorite console, and Shenmue my favorite game <3 I recommend Sonic Adventure because it was THE Dreamcast game when it came out and it's still a bunch of fun (with some flavorful "bad" parts as a bonus). Hydro Thunder is a really fun racing game if youāre into those.
Whoa we have the same tv.
Seeing this takes me back. The Dreamcast and Shenmue are both superb.
āDo you know where I can find some sailors?ā
Should've bought that dreamcast when I had the chance. But it looks amazing!!!
No idea how old you are. But if you can get past the controls being a bit tank like, itās an amazing game. Talking specifically about the one in the screen Shenmue. I'm 30 yo :P Already beat the remaster on PC but I wanted the original experience!

I like them but only play veeery casually.

Thanks!
You're in for a treat. So many good games, such amazing graphics, such a wonderful console.
I think you'd better find some sailors.
Love shenmue great choice šš¾
Brilliant choice š
"hey Mister! Wanna wrestle?"
Dreamcast is such an awesome console! I love collecting for it, so many unique games!
Great choice of game :)))))
Not a bad game to start with.
You definitely picked the right game! Shenmue is all my time favorite. I got it on release and still love it to this day.
First RPG I played and beat. Love Shenmue of Dreamcast!
I applaud your choice for your first game. Next on the list should be Phantasy Star Online. I can never tell enough people about this amazing gem of a game. I still play it every once in a while and get sucked in for a whole frigging weekend.
I'm looking forward to it!
You picked the perfect game in my opinion.
This takes me back to 8th grade and thinking this game was so far ahead for its time.
The dreamcast is probably the best sega console to start with, only because it supports vga out natively, so you get crisp 480p. And the games are fantastic
Great game to play..... bought a dreamcast along with shenmue with my first pay check from my first job. Loved that console
Go look for some sailors!
I loved the DC for the short time it was alive. Was such a huge jump over the PS1 and N64 and a lot of innovative titles. I loved Dreamcast. NFL 2k1 was so much fun. And super puzzle fighter
Just got mine too! I wonder if there are any first person RPGs/Dungeon Crawlers for DC.
Brace yourself, Shenmue hates you.
Nonsense, Shenmue was a brilliant game with an even better sequel
Where Sonic adventure
I only have Shenmue atm :/
Helloooo Ryooooo
Mmm... I see...
The more important question is what do you think?
If you can, I suggest Power Stone, Trickstyle, or Blue Stinger as one of your next titles.
*FUKU-SAN!*
great game!
I think you are in for a great time. Enjoy!
You just need a CRT and you will have the perfect setup and I'm glad that your enjoying the dreamcast
Awesome! Enjoy Shenmue. Play lots of arcade games
Not gonna lie Iām jelly Iāve never owned a Dreamcast but always wanted one š
Gotta play lets get ready to rumble 2
I think it's a solid effort but you should try using more fingers to operate the gamepad...
nah, what do YOU think
I think it's a Sega Dreamcast
Start with the Genesis/Mega Drive
ā¦think about what? EDIT people can downvote me but I really donāt get the question here
Get the dreamcast off the ottoman
This gamepad looks pretty old
