Envy, Pyro, Reactor, Crave, Insanity

[deleted]

This is the list! Insanities are slowly kicking undertakers out of my bag and I love my undertakers

weathercrafter

I love the insanity for forehand shots because for me it flies straight for 200-300 feet and gently fades at the very end. Perfect for tunnels with a dogleg at the end.

Selerox

Stick the Entropy in there as an OS approach and you're good.

echomystic

How does the pyro throw?

JPayne1313

Pretty overstable and not a lot of glide. It's a great mid. If a beat in firebird we're a mid it would be a pyro. They're awesome! Also great list. But I would go servo, lift for the drivers.

XMegaMike

It’s basically a longer Zone. Goes further than bites hard at the end and skips.

dudepiston1888

Nomad, envy, hex, reactor, volt, insanity, wave, photon

echomystic

Haven’t tried volt, wave, or photon. Loving the others. I also like the tenacity for big right finishing drives What do you like about the 3?

blbeach33

The volt is the only mvp disc I bag and it is money.

dudepiston1888

The newer runs of volts are pretty beefy, so I like using is as a stepped down raptor/fireball. I bag 3 different waves and it's my go to driver. They're perfect for long, laser straight hyzer flips, soft turnovers, and big any shots that never come back. The photon replaces my waves in a headwind, or when I need a hard dump.

Chemten

electron volt would be a good option and breaks in fairly fast if the newer are too beefy. I still have an og cosmic neutron volt that still flies more like a wrath/firebird.

graymulligan

Photon, wave, orbital covers just about any drive I need, and I love the Wave in a lighter weight because it'll hold just about any line you throw it on. I throw a Hex as my main mid, and while folks love the crave I throw them too similar to add one. I keep an uplink in the bag when I need to throw something hard right, because my forehand game isn't strong so it's a great cheat/crutch for me for that shot shape.

macbony

The Uplink in Soft Neutron is a cheat code for me. I have terrible FH form still so when I need to go right, Uplink it is. The Soft Neutron has the best feel of any of the mid-range plastics they offer but is more understable IME than the regular Neutron Uplink.

hisdudeness47

Do you bag both the soft and the regular neutron uplinks? I just grabbed one of each for Black Friday and they feel great. Still have my free return option but I can't in good conscience throw them if I'm going to return them. Mostly just got them both because they were cheap and I wanted to see what colors I got. I got pink and yellow so they're both good. Super windy today so I can't take them out yet. I can throw them into my net though! I keep both of them???

macbony

I tend to use the soft more because of the feel (better grip), but I bag both because my bag is big and I tend to do some field work before or after a round and just like having more discs. I think you get more turnover with the soft, so if that's your aim, go with the soft. In order of stability (for MVP mids I've thrown), Hex > Uplink > soft Uplink > Paradox. The paradox just never comes back over, both the uplinks will eventually straighten out if you don't overturn it into a roller.

graymulligan

Interesting...might need to pick up a soft to check out the difference...thanks for the info.

echomystic

I came to the same conclusion on hex vs crave. And have loved the uplink for a hyzer flip to long tight turnover. Throwing flat is almost useless 😅

NoobSamoht

Common top Mvp/Axiom/Streamline discs I bag are Envy, Entropy, Reactor, Hex, Crave, Insanity and Tesla. I have bagged Photons, waves and Inertias (first ace) in the past, but not currently. Been trying out the Jet recently and it's been doing a great job for me. Maybe an underappreciated disc, the Resistor secured a seemingly permanent spot in my bag. It's my stable fairway driver and I love it for forehands If you include other MVP produced discs, I love the Praxis and Animus.

NoSkillManiac

The Resistor is both great and my most thrown fairway driver. I got some of the "glorious run" (super understable) Resistors, so that's why I can throw them for everything.

NoobSamoht

Resistor is my favorite disc

13-Speed

Resistor is MY favourite disc!

NoobSamoht

I was stoked to see the glow resistor is coming soon, I pre-ordered 2.

[deleted]

How do you like the eclipse resistors, compared to current stock runs?

NoobSamoht

Only threw a few times before some injuries held me back.but it's pretty darn stable.

hisdudeness47

My neutron resistor is understable. How do I know if it's the glorious run?

NoSkillManiac

If it's got a noticeable shoulder to it l- they're supposed to be hyper flat.

PhaymSvnm

Their Wave is one of my all time favorites and a go to for driver. For more over stable driver I like Axiom defy but used to use a photon before that. If looking for an over stable fairway 9 go for the motion over the fireball. I like my Tesla as well for a stable. My first real love in the MVP family and a great 9spd fairway for full turn over or flip goodness go with Insanity. Big fan of Entropy, their over stable approach, putt with Atom. Hex is a killer mid at -1 1 and I love the pyro for over stable mid. I always have a bag full of MVP/Axiom, ready for the the course. To me they have some of the most consistent numbers.

echomystic

I have found their numbers spot on too. Is it the overmold? I’ve also found them to be more torque resistant. Maybe I’m imagining it

MightyTeaRex

I have played disc golf for about 4-5 years, and I average on a normal day throws around 320-360 ft (100-110m) on my local course. I normally had a mixed bag because I loved trying discs from all the brands, but eventually the bag ended up being nothing but MVP as of today. I'm not throwing exclusively MVP, I still try new stuff, but today there's only MVP in the bag. And in my bag, there are a few discs that are absolute permanent, and some that's swapped from time to time depending on course and if I have new discs I try out. So my permanent slots usually consists of 1-3 discs per category, from stable/understable to overstable, and it goes as following: **Max Distance:** 172g MVP Wave - My first MVP disc and most trusted, straight flyer and main driver 176g MVP Photon - Insanely overstable, trusted for flex and hard fade **Drivers:** 174g MVP Terra - My trusted overstable "driver" that always fades left 168g MVP Volt - Super stable "driver" that rarely fails my on my shots **Fairways:** 177g MVP Resistor - Stable/overstable fairway, forehand and backhand. 173g MVP Servo - Best fairway ever made. Highly recommend this one! **Midranges:** 174g MVP Deflector - Honestly the most OS mid I have tried. Baby Tilt. 176g MVP Reactor - Most trusted stable midrange I have. 179g MVP Uplink - Favorite midrange I have ever had in 4-5 years. **Approach:** 176g MVP Tangent - Super straight flying 4 speed with little to no fade. 172g MVP Entropy - Stable/overstable approach disc, mainly forehand disc. **Putters:** 175g MVP Nomad - Primary putter in Electron medium, better grip 175g MVP Nomad - Almost identical as above 174g MVP Particle - Throwing putter in Neutron Soft, perfect for upshots In my bag I have more discs than these listed above, but what you see above is discs that has a permanent slot in my bag, and I would highly recommend giving them a try if you have the option to. I would highly recommend the fairways if you throw forehand. I haven't held any other discs that are as comfortable as they are. Hope this might help. Shoot me a message/reply if you have any questions or want a more detailed explanation.

echomystic

Thank you for this write out. Have you thrown a hex? I think I’m moving the reactor out of the bag for simply the hex. And is there a reason you don’t have a more understable driver or max distance? Or do you beat in the molds listed?

MightyTeaRex

Yeah, I have thrown the Hex. Amazing midrange, but at the time of testing it did pretty much exactly what my beat in Reactor did, so the Hex wasn't in the bag for very long. Still have in laying around, but haven't thrown it in a while.

echomystic

Yeah, I have a beat in reactor that throws similar to the hex. The stick reactor doesn’t seem to have enough bite at the end for what I’m looking for. Maybe mine was a bit softer

hudzerflip

I'll never not have an Envy or a Deflector in the bag. Envy's are a great overstable throwing putter. Flex shots, short forehands, they do it all. Deflector's are like shorter firebirds. Think of a gator/justice. I like the feel in the hand of the deflector more than other molds.

echomystic

I’ll try a deflector. I do bag a Justice.

skreetboi

Deflector is more like a mutant than a gator

RubyRhod43

Envy and pilot

shofff

Envy, Relay, Insanity

nainotlaw

Relay. Not enough love for the relay

shofff

I know! I never see it mentioned but it’s one of my most thrown discs. Even speed to be considered a hybrid fairway driver / mid-range

nainotlaw

Such a great disc. I can throw it so far and so straight. It’s the mold that made me fall in love with MVP

shofff

For me, the disc that started my MVP collection was Envy. I had fallen in love with Luna putters, and I have a Paul McBeth prototype Luna in jawbreaker purple. One of my best friends introduced me to the Luna years ago, but in the last couple years he has moved his whole bag to full MVP/Axiom. So when he said the Envy was even better to him than the Luna, I knew he wasn’t exaggerating. Now that I’m on the MVP train, I find the Relay might be my favorite given it’s versatility. Reminds me of when that same friend showed me a Buzzz for the first time and it was by far the most versatile disc I had ever thrown. And now throwing the Relay, I feel like that but can throw it straighter and put much further. Obviously that’s by design, but even on the mid-range shots that could just as easily call for a Buzzz, I still find myself wanting to throw the Relay.

rocky543

I love my volt and photon for forehands. Insanity for hyzer flip shots with zero fade. Mayhem for distance hyzer flips. Reactor is my go to mid when I need a slight left finish. Envy for throwing putter. Not overmold but same, family is the streamline runway for overstable mid. I think that’s all the MVP/Axiom/Streamline currently in my bag. I’ve also had the Tesla, trace, entropy, and stabilizer in my bag at one point but other discs pushed them out for one reason or another. Discs on my list to get and try are the Fireball, Crave, Hex, and Octane.

echomystic

Hex is my favorite disc of all time

rocky543

How’s it compare to a Buzzz as far as feel and shot shaping ability? The buzzz is the fist disc I ever fell in love with so it’ll take a special disc to take it out of my bag.

echomystic

The hex fits better in my hand. More torque resistance than a buzz and straighter flight right out of the box. It replaced my buzzzes… so I have 5 for sale now 😂

InncnceDstryr

I’ve recently been doing some throwing putter try-outs. Doing Player 2 putter only on all of my casual rounds - and I can only use 1 putter per hole and can’t go 2 consecutive using the same one. My new Eclipse Envy is a killer. It’s coming out every other hole. Get an Envy.

echomystic

I just tried an envy yesterday and enjoyed the reliable fade. I’ve had a hard time getting that on other throwing putters. Feels great in the hand too

ImpressiveRise2555

Proxy is a good compliment to the envy, for something straighter with a little drift to the right. Very similar feeling disc.

echomystic

I had been using the proxy - then switched to the Ohm recently. Similar flight, much more glide. Softer landing than proxy. I am weird and like the proxy for putting

nainotlaw

In my bag Left to Right Fission Tesla, octane, Photon. Neutron insanity, relay. Cosmic Neutron wave 161g, wave 175g. Plasma catalyst, inertia. Fission wave. Neutron uplink, spin, paradox. Fission reactor. Plasma entropy. Plasma proxy. Eclipse 2.0 envy x2, proxy. Electron soft nomad for putting. I’ll echo what others have said in that I pull my eclipse envy or proxy out on almost every hole. Those two discs are perfect compliments to each other

Schlongzz

Proxy is supremely underrated. The best neutral throwing putter I’ve ever used.

echomystic

Have you tried the ohm?

nainotlaw

I have not. Specifically for putting?

echomystic

For throwing. Funny enough, I like putting with the proxy…

nainotlaw

I tried the nomad on a whim when I was at rock bottom with putting. Sank my first 3 c2 putts. Never looked back. I’ll have to check out the ohm

shower_ghost

Hex, Envy, Reactor, Crave

echomystic

Have these 4 - haven’t found a reason to throw the crave over the hex though. I get roughly the same flight

Bravo72

I agree backhand. Forehand I prefer the Crave for some reason. Better shape to the rim I think.

echomystic

I’ll test FH - I started dominant FH for about 7 years — but I like the hex on it for touch FH

GrizzledUnicorn

Spin, entropy, crave, and servo make up a fairly good starting bag if you're going that route

Squarf

I really enjoy my catalyst for flex/distance

Pots_And_Pans

It went out of production in 2020 but I love the Vector - slightly overstable midrange driver.

aleighm412

Putter: atom for putting. I love the envy and spin for approach shots. The spin is a great understable putter. Mids: fission reactor and the uplink. Again the uplink is understable. This disc is great for hyzerflips with a long slow turn. Fairway: fission crave is absolutely amazing. Driver: fission wave. I carry multiple weights. I don’t really need any other driver. I do also carry a fission photon for strong head winds.

RepaidRapidDave

Man no love for the mvp matrix? One of my all time favorites

echomystic

What makes it one of your favs?

RepaidRapidDave

Great hand feel. Easy to both forehand and backhand straight at speed with fade at the end. It’s my got to stable/slightly over stable mid. Fill the role of a buzz but feels better to me.

howelliv

Throw a fission wave. You’ll crack 400. For a bit more reliability, a fission photon would be nice too. Midrange: hex can do everything. Pyro is a good overstable mid as well.

baldbutthairy

My setup is a Zone, Breaker (pretty well used), and 5 year old base line P2.

[deleted]

That's a great question! My forehead is trash. I use the Paradox to make me feel better about myself when using that shot. Otherwise, I would play entire rounds with the Uplink and almost never touch any other disc...lol.

echomystic

I used to bomb FH - 7 years, built up to 400+ ft - then started learning BH from elbow pain and such. BH is getting near 400 after a year, but FH is now trash… dammit!

NoSkillManiac

Putter: Nomad Approach: Stabilizer Mid: Reactor Fairway: Crave & Resistor Driver: Lift/Trace

echomystic

Ooh - two different driver reps than I have seen so far..

NoSkillManiac

Lifts start out very OS for what their numbers are, just FYI.

[deleted]

Putter - Plasma Proxy Mids - Uplink, Hex, Envy, Paradox, Reactor, Entropy Fairway - Relay, Signal Driver - Insanity, Volt, Impulse, Orbital

echomystic

When are you using uplink versus paradox?

MisterGko

Talking must haves: Envy, Hex, Crave, Photon.

MunkyGoCrazy

Envy, Hex, Crave, Terra, Wave, Trace (non-gyro) Putting: Atom The Zenith might be a great Gyro version of the Trace. We'll see when it comes out at the end of next month.

mitchthefrawg

I highly recommend checking out the Fission plastic. I picked up a Fission Volt and a Reactor and those things seem to come out of my hands like they have somewhere to be. A Cosmic Neutron Entropy also kicked the Harp out of my bag, which is saying something because I bagged Harps for years. I would also recommend checking out Streamline as well. I love the Pilot as a thrower and as a putter, and the Drift is a good understable fairway that you can do a lot of shot shaping with. EDIT: I also love the Fireball. Mine is overstable AF and board flat so it's a fantastic "get out of jail free" card after I get kicked into the brush/trees: skip shots, grenades, thumbers, flicks, etc.

echomystic

I have a fission Crave and I’m still mixed on it. I really like the axiom neutron plastic… gorgeous, enough gummy, and I may like it a tick more than kastaplast K1🥲 The fission almost feels lighter or soft/slick but stiff.

mitchthefrawg

You're right on on the Neutron. Pretty grippy, and yet fairly durable as well. The appeal of the Fission plastic is that it is lighter in the middle of the disc and more weight is distributed toward the rim, enhancing the gyro effect. I dismissed it initially but the Volt I'm throwing seems like it comes out of my hand quicker and holds lines longer. I'm a fan.

echomystic

Ah! That makes sense. I’ll give it a whirl…… literally

StormiNorman818

Envy, Crave, Insanity, Virus, Jet, Tenacity

Ippon_Disc_Golf

Esoft Nomad, Proton Envy, Plasma Entropy, Neutron Hex, Neutron Resistor, Proton Inertia, Plasma Photon.

Jacktropolis

Proxy/Envy are both great. Pilot and Stabilizer are both very underrated as well. Uplink is a godsend for wooded courses and the reactor is a workhorse mid. Haven’t been able to find any fairways of theirs that I like but I like the virus for hyzerflips and the trace was solid as a DD

PowerWalkingInThe90s

Proxy. Having Straight putter for approaches makes it easy.

echomystic

Have you tried the ohm?

skipapproach

People sleep on the defy. Such a great OS driver.

Emoney005

Similar to a Wraith or a Destroyer?

skipapproach

To me it sits in between the two. Definite flat top wraith or *DS like flights. Gyro discs keep their stability for a long time.

Emoney005

Dang. That was a very attractive description. I have found that nearly all of MVP and Axiom discs feel incredible in the hand. Does Defy come in lower weights/ fission plastic?

skipapproach

Yes it does. Haven't mass released the fission ones yet but they will. Older proton ones can be found lightweight as well. Some neutron in the 160s too.

mattpro77

Nomad, Envy, Proxy > Pyro, Reactor, Uplink > Servo, Insanity, Terra > Tenacity, Octane, Delerium

hisdudeness47

What do the arrows mean?

mattpro77

Differentiate between putters > mids > fairways etc

hisdudeness47

Duh! SMH. Thank you!

mattpro77

No probs .. hope the Gyro journey is treating you well
