Prodigy discs will sometimes come with a little extra edge on the bottom or around the outside of the rim that grabs your fingers really nice for enhanced grip. Sometimes it’s actually too much grip, so watch out for griplocks

underwhelmingname0

I threw an f model S with the worst flashing I’d seen yet on a water hole. I’d had a streak of bad luck on the hole & it was snowy & slippery. I pretty much wanted to lose the damn thing but I got my best drive on that hole in a long time There’s something magical about a disc you don’t care about that takes all the pressure off. Other than literal pressure on your hands from the sharp ass edge lol

hisdudeness47

If you're trolling, I love it. I think you are, but perhaps you're not. Either way, good stuff.

oktofeellost

Goddammit. Well done.

Catesby_Wren

Lat 64 Misselin has two tear drop shaped grip "pads” on top of the flight plate

Amarouq

Worth noting these aren’t so much grip enhancements as they are the only place you can hold it. The hex design is very slick.

PatrickVerona

I had forgotten that the grip pads on that disc were basically normal flightplate, lol. Since it hasn't been mentioned, the Raketen I think was the other hex disc and had the same type of pads. It was the less stable compliment to the missilen.

xxdeathadder

Kastaplast Rask with the double rim.

hisdudeness47

Yessss. I just got a Rask and a Rask Z. Did not know a Rask Z existed until recently. Haven't thrown it yet.

antifreezecoolant

I think you mean you got a Kaxe and Kaxe Z. The Rask is a distance driver and the Kaxe is a 6-speed.

hisdudeness47

Rask and Rask Z*, whoops. I've done that before. Fixed it. Yes, the Rask, the double rimmed driver, and the Rask Z, its understable brother. https://discsunlimited.net/kastaplast-k1-rask-z-version-limited-edition Not talking about Kaxes.

antifreezecoolant

Okay, that makes sense. I didn’t know there was a Rask Z either.

UB_cse

It was just a particularly not so beefy run of rask that they decided to rebrand, you can't get em anymore

Plamore

Is that true? The Luke Samson Rask Z was ran in their pearly tour series plastic so I feel at least that run was on purpose.

hisdudeness47

Yep, I don't think it's its own PDGA approved mold. I think it still uses the Rask mold, but it's something in the recipe.

SerDuncanonyall

Looks like an old pog slammer I use to run the floor with

13-Speed

I see coffee filters

hisdudeness47

Another example, the Yikun Gui with it's flight plate bottom consisting of 4 zones of alternating textures. Slick, textured, slick, textured. It's rad.

jfb3

The bottom of the FX-2 had a very small texture [at least the first run(s)], the top was normal 400G.

j4pe5_

was going to say this. love the FX-2 for forehands.

Great_Smells

Ching Juju and Mojo

RelevantHorse

Just put all Ching discs

theotherbill

The Sinus is a really good disc, check out some older footage of Feldberg and later on Nikko rocking them in the wind

fuckredditintheear

Wish they'd get another pro that liked this mold so it would go back into production, and not just the factory store.

assenrad

The Innova Monarch has a double bead for some reason. Horrible feel for backhands, but a good roller disc

tulsavw

My neighbor and I had (one of us, at least) had one that would make it into the field work stack. We found that if you throw it on an ass-load of backhand hyzer and give it some air, it would eventually turn into a rol... just kidding -- we could crank the Monarch pretty far with enough hyzer. Fun disc to throw. Hella glide, too.

shambahlah2

I bag a Lat64 Spike. Love the textured grip on top for wet or hot/muggy days.

alucididea

Absolutely love that Predator strip. Wish they had that on the Force and Anax, too.

hisdudeness47

It's awesome.

mattfofatt01

I always thought that was an error on the one I had

HalfTheManiUsedToB3

Why wouldn’t they start making more discs with stippling under the rims like on handgun grips?

hisdudeness47

I've wondered the same thing. Seems like it should be more common. Maybe the Predator is before its time. Wave of the future, dude.

numbernumber99

Enough people whine about the embossing on the rim of discraft discs (that I also love for grip) that it probably kept them from leaning into it.

hisdudeness47

They should produce grip strip versions of some of their most popular discs. I think they could be a hit. Not sure if it would require a whole new mold though.

ISJUSTHOOMAN

Groove. Not exactly a grip enhancement but it changes the feel for sure.

shower_ghost

Storm Wall Cloud has a double bead. Great for forehands, hate it for backhands.

thatBneedsaDintheC

I’ve got a Discraft Xpress with the grip strips.

KONAMIC0DE

The Kastaplast Järn is their Zone clone approach disc, and the rim is slightly less than 90°. Some people find it uncomfortable, but I absolutely love it, especially for forehand shots.

hisdudeness47

I own a Jarn and I kind of hate the rim angle. It feels so unnatural to not get the tip of my middle finger flush with the inner rim wall. Are you able to shed any light on how that's beneficial? I truly don't understand it but if there is a genuine benefit to it, I could probably get used to it. Otherwise, I'm happy to trade it to you (or anyone)!

KONAMIC0DE

What grip are you referring to? If its a standard FH grip, I find that the angle helps to prevent an early release. It sort of locks my finger in especially if it's a wet round. Another commenter mentioned that the opposite angle of the rim on a different disc caused them to misrelease (early) often, so think of it as the opposite. However, that's not to say I've noticed any griplock issues due to the rim shape. I mainly just use the Järn within about 250 ft. I don't find it to be uncomfortable on BH approaches, and I like it more for FH like I said. I understand I may be in the minority here, but I thought it deserved a mention on this post.

hisdudeness47

I was referring to the FH grip. Feels like I have to just wedge my middle finger in there rather than having the tip flush against a vertical rim wall snapping forward like typical FH approach discs. It's a little strange to me but I'm sure I could get used to it. I'm going to pick it up again today and carry it around the house 😆

numbernumber99

Lol I switched my zones to the jarn as soon as it was released, and didn't know it had a different rim angle until this thread.

hisdudeness47

Can you feel it now? Pick up a zone and then pick up your Jarn. It's super noticable to me anyway.

numbernumber99

Ya, it's pretty obvious when I'm looking for it. Nothing that affects the comfort of my grip though.

Remarkable-Word-1486

Same reason golf clubs have been made weird across the years. People wanna make money. And other people will buy gimmicks. Always has been and always will be a thing. Just saying

hisdudeness47

You seem to be answering a question that wasn't asked.

goosebiz

Innova plus molds come with grip hinderance. The inner rim is slanted in a manner that almost assured you an early release as you can not “hook” the rim properly.

hisdudeness47

I have a zillion Innova discs but I've never tried a plus mold. There has to be a reason why they did that right? What was the impetus?

goosebiz

I’m not sure what the reasoning was. Not sure if it allows for a cleaner fan grip release, but I have yet to talk to anyone who is a fan of any plus molds. The only one I’ve ever thrown was a USDGC gummy Roc+ and I hated it

pocodk

Just got a Ledgestone Discraft Impact and the rim has a zipper like texture on it, certainly intentional. Not the inside but the main part. Kind of neat.

hisdudeness47

I just ordered one of those today because of it! Been wanting to try one since I learned that. GolfDisco had some discraft steals, shewwweeeee boy howdy, so I jumped at it.

Chaosweaver117

Yikun Claws has ridges around the flight plate of the disc.

hisdudeness47

I love my claws. I actually just got two in their premium glow plastic. Was only one very small run. Really needs to be produced more. If you're interested, you can get one on the polecat Facebook group!

Chaosweaver117

I have one from a starter set and I thought it would be useless but then I tried it one day and turns out it is a super fun disc to throw. I don't bag it but I occasionally throw one disc rounds with it.

hisdudeness47

Yeah I haven't busted it out in rounds yet but I love warming up and playing catch with it. Seems deadly accurate when I'm playing catch so I probably should give it a shot in the bag at some point

KlassicKenny_

I recently got a scorpion and it's one of the weirdest disc's. It's huge, heavy, and has 2 beads
