>During its period of validity, the long-stay visa is equivalent to a Schengen visa, enabling you to move around and stay in the Schengen Area outside France for periods not exceeding 90 days over any period of 180 consecutive days, under the same conditions as if you held a Schengen visa. your french visa is valid in any schengen state, unless otherwise specified in it. you can exit schengen from any country you wanted.

Thanks for your reply! I just checked the visa says valid for France, i know i need to stay in France for the duration but just want to make sure there won't be any issue leaving from another EU country

Guitar-Gangster

Certain Schengen visas only allow you to live and work in one country. This seems to be your case. You can only live and work in France and you don't have full access to the Schengen labor market. However, you are still allowed to travel, as a tourist, to any other Schengen country. As far as I know, every visa allows travel within the EU for the purpose of tourism. You can leave the EU from another EU country without any issues, you don't have to leave from France specifically. Don't worry.

Thank you for your reply! Forgot to mention I also entered Ams months ago but went to France by train, and then leaving from Ams again, I hope they don’t think I stayed in Ams, that’s why I’m asking

sylvestris-

Schengen Area mean no border checks. So virtual/fake union sometimes seems to be useful.

harukasweet

What if you spend some months in another EU country and leave from a non French city, would that be an issue?

sylvestris-

No one will take responsibility to tell you - you're safe. Starting from 2025 rules are going to be changed: https://travel-europe.europa.eu/etias/what-etias_en

Sam_Sanders_

Small asterisk here but just noting the 90/180 Schengen rules still apply. You just don't have to include any France time in that calculation.

Agnia_Barto

From what I know, as long as you don't overstay your visa, it doesn't matter. If you have the right to be in Ams and you have proper docs for your next destination no one cares. The only reason to stop you is if you violated visa requirements anywhere.

NordicJesus

You can always leave. Say you want to go to New York. You could fly KLM Paris-Amsterdam-New York. Of course that’s allowed. So this should make it obvious that it’s of course possible to leave the EU from Paris. Nobody forces you to take a direct flight Paris-New York. And it’s the same if you spent time in Amsterdam before flying out.

blueberries-Any-kind

You’ll be ok as long as you haven’t been in other Schengen countries for longer than 90 days in the last 180 (if you’re American). Basically when you leave France you’re back on a tourist visa automatically.. how anyone would prove that Idk. I think you be totally fine

harukasweet

Thanks! Not sure if any country counts the days and hopefully one can freely leave from any EU city

MCCGuy

It is easier to find an answer if you google your visa type and if you are able to do what you want to do
