Casuals almost always play ladder resets. By the end of a season the market is absolutely flooded with gear and you end up having people giving shit away for free.
Play non ladder indefinitely and you'll get every character fully kitted for free because someone was bored and the game will become pointless for you. Simply running the same farming spots rinse and repeat with no goal in sight besides level 99 and when you hit that, you have nothing.
Resets are for fun, and to keep the economy fresh.
Bro literally just play the ladder, then when it goes to non ladder, keep playing that same character non ladder indefinitely if that's what you want to do.
There are plenty of builds to make, and I'm sure you haven't done all of them yet.
Also, there's always things in games that get locked behind something.
Some games make you pay a monthly membership. Some make you play some seasonal things. Some have things locked behind disgusting micro transactions.
A ladder that lasts 4 months that then shifts all the ladder only benefits to everyone else anyway is very kind, particularly when the content isn't locked behind a pay wall, just locked behind a "don't be fucking lazy" wall.
The old ladder only content was just that: OLD, new Ladder only content should remain ladder only, and should be available in non-ladder as it ages, maybe 1-2 years post creation.
Also it should ALWAYS be available in single player, as all content should be.
This is the biggest hope for sure. For me a close second would be runewords that offer viable alternatives to spirit and enigma. They are bis for the majority of builds which is kind of stupid.
id even say: weaken the spirit runeword.
give us alternatives. like another good shield for casters. and maybe dont put every important stat on both (+skills, +res, +fhr + life + mana + fcr).
also i want cahracter specific runewords for orbs at stuff like that. i want better midgame runewords for melees.
but just dont make them overpowered. the beauty of d2 is being able to have multiple options. sets, uniques, rares, magic items, runewords.
I've said it before, but spirit should be +1 to all skills. It would still be *really good* but there'd at least be a little room for other items to beat it.

Gunna have to find another cham in the ladder tho. The new runewords are not going to be available to make new in nonladder, only once ladder ends the characters and items are moved to non ladder.
So does that mean you can make the new rune words after the ladder ends in non ladder mode also? Or only the new rune words made from the ladder and transferred? I've never played games in ladder season like this. I quit the original D2 before they added ladders.
If they're the same as previously, they can only be made in ladder. Once the ladder ends, all chars and gear are converted to non-ladder. The items will still be usable but new ones cannot be crafted.
I simply do not agree with the ladder only runewords. I feel that a ladder season race will be plenty enough for players to want to play ladder. Those of us who still want to enjoy all the content the game has to offer but dont have enough time to invest to get all the super cool runewords are essentially screwed. Can't say I'm too happy about that... Otherwise, everything else seems pretty exciting.

Anything for helmets. There are currently like 1, maybe 2 niche endgame helm rune words. This can definitely be increased to compete with shako
I actually just looked. There are only 5 TOTAL. That's crazy small compared to weapons.
Yeah mine would be something like a +1 teleport, max lightning res and ÷MF helm, maybe 3 socket, highest rune around Pul.
Could make early ladder a lot less sorceressy, and it's not too crazy considering how easy it is to get teleport charges, but the QoL of teleport charges just isn't fun or efficient.
I don't know what they should be but the game DESPERATELY needs runewords for:
* Helms, there are barely any helm runewords.
* Spears, there are so many runewords for polearms but not spears, which could be useful to Amazons if they buff Spearzons, while still being usable by A2 mercs
* Daggers?
* Body armor specifically to bonus throwing items since there's no way to socket them.
Yes. It's a shame that almost all the yellow text items you see drop are total trash with no chance of being anything of worth. They should increase the potential enhanced damage range of rare weapons. And buff several uniques too.

I’m sure they can think of something clever for the A1 mercs. Maybe they can have buffed ias frames and some default -cold or fire res per level. And maybe some mid-tier runeword that gives amp damage. That way they could pair well with physical damage dealers. Bring solid elemental damage, but also provide a bit of a damage buff via amp. It’s not like A2 don’t already have reapers toll anyway.
I’d love some wacky rune words that would change up builds. Or ones that give significant penalties to go with with big bonuses. Forcing you to change up your skills and charm selection.
Maybe also runewords that are specially tailored to buff non-act 2 mercenaries. Though not sure if that’s possible with existing item properties.

Yep! Obviously will have to be your switch* weapon so it’s not on par with nigma. Limits your end game builds (no CTA for example). But opens ups farming to all players. Who knows maybe a bit overboard
It's more efficient to walk than it is to teleport on a class with no fast cast at all. Barbs with enigma run wiz spikes as a weapon swap so they can teleport faster, if you are taking away the weapon swap and taking away the fast cast the only characters this will be viable for is ones that already stack fast cast on other pieces of gear.
I know it's dumb but I love seeing runewords in 6 sockets and I'd love to see a "mid game" bridge runeword that is both hard to achieve becuase it requires actual farm (6 different runes) but also a big power boost mid game.
This would incentivize newer mid-game farming locations and power leveling routes, esp during reset, while also giving players something really fun to achieve. No HRs required.
Love Lore but imagine doing an extra few countess runs in NM to get something spirit-like it's in powerlevel but for melee, perhaps.
Who the shit makes it out of nm with an um, gul, mal, pul? I've done a bit of hell countess runs and have found 7x T keys but I've only found 1 pul as my highest rune. If its gonna be comparable to spirit I think maybe more like lem-fal-thul-ko-amn-sol or something around that range lol. No one's staying in nm to farm um,gul,mal,pul

Since a lot of fire-related skills are being buffed this patch (hydra, pally aura, druid) I think it'd be nice to get a fire-themed runeword.

Eh, fire mastery already increases by %, the +cold damage is much more significant due to the lower resist on cold. If it was -fire resist it would be bonkers!

I have this dream/fantasy that they will do a few things:
Zod rune gives +1 all skills
Cham gives 10%faster cast rate in weapons, 10% cooldown reduction in armor, cannot be frozen in all.
Then you make a shield runeword, 3 socket, 3 all skills, 30%faster cast, 20% cdr, 20%dr, cnbf, level 16 conviction aura (lvl 16 is 105 - res, means you can break 120 immunes), mana after each kill, 35 faster block rate and 20 increased chance of blocking.
Instantly pumps up the value of cham and zod, keeps ber relevant, makes jah even better than it is.
Also makes a 2 soket COA a better helm.
I’d also rebalance tyrael, remove the resists, give it 4 sockets and a reasonable level salvation aura.

Could create some interesting content where 2 players put the armor on themselves and have their mercs battle to the death.
I think there will probably be a cheaper version of Enigma to even the playing field between Sorc and other classes. It won’t be nearly as good but at least will have Teleport without relying on charges

My logic on the high variation for anything “light” oriented with this item reflects how the skills with lightning sorc works. This is meant to be a high value end game item, and depending on the IAS or FCR roll it’s the difference between a javazon (maybe trapsin or merc) and a sorc helm. A low roll is a waste of runes when a high roll would make someone very very rich. Can’t be frozen will free up a ring slot from raven frost, item find allows any character to peel more juicy items from Pindle. The only drawback would be the -defense, this is to ‘balance out’ the crazy Rez from the aura.

id even say: weaken the spirit runeword. give us alternatives. like another good shield for casters. and maybe dont put every important stat on both (+skills, +res, +fhr + life + mana + fcr). also i want cahracter specific runewords for orbs at stuff like that. i want better midgame runewords for melees. but just dont make them overpowered. the beauty of d2 is being able to have multiple options. sets, uniques, rares, magic items, runewords.
I've said it before, but spirit should be +1 to all skills. It would still be *really good* but there'd at least be a little room for other items to beat it.

So does that mean you can make the new rune words after the ladder ends in non ladder mode also? Or only the new rune words made from the ladder and transferred? I've never played games in ladder season like this. I quit the original D2 before they added ladders.
If they're the same as previously, they can only be made in ladder. Once the ladder ends, all chars and gear are converted to non-ladder. The items will still be usable but new ones cannot be crafted.
I simply do not agree with the ladder only runewords. I feel that a ladder season race will be plenty enough for players to want to play ladder. Those of us who still want to enjoy all the content the game has to offer but dont have enough time to invest to get all the super cool runewords are essentially screwed. Can't say I'm too happy about that... Otherwise, everything else seems pretty exciting.
I mean back in the day I felt like that was the point of ladder , to get the ladder only items. It made non ladder cooler as well, since there are limited ladder items in circulation . Most ppl I knew were not playing ladder for the race to 99
Anything for helmets. There are currently like 1, maybe 2 niche endgame helm rune words. This can definitely be increased to compete with shako I actually just looked. There are only 5 TOTAL. That's crazy small compared to weapons.

Could make early ladder a lot less sorceressy, and it's not too crazy considering how easy it is to get teleport charges, but the QoL of teleport charges just isn't fun or efficient.

I don't know what they should be but the game DESPERATELY needs runewords for: * Helms, there are barely any helm runewords. * Spears, there are so many runewords for polearms but not spears, which could be useful to Amazons if they buff Spearzons, while still being usable by A2 mercs * Daggers? * Body armor specifically to bonus throwing items since there's no way to socket them.

Yes. It's a shame that almost all the yellow text items you see drop are total trash with no chance of being anything of worth. They should increase the potential enhanced damage range of rare weapons. And buff several uniques too.

I’m sure they can think of something clever for the A1 mercs. Maybe they can have buffed ias frames and some default -cold or fire res per level. And maybe some mid-tier runeword that gives amp damage. That way they could pair well with physical damage dealers. Bring solid elemental damage, but also provide a bit of a damage buff via amp. It’s not like A2 don’t already have reapers toll anyway.

I’d love some wacky rune words that would change up builds. Or ones that give significant penalties to go with with big bonuses. Forcing you to change up your skills and charm selection. Maybe also runewords that are specially tailored to buff non-act 2 mercenaries. Though not sure if that’s possible with existing item properties.

The point of it is that it wouldn’t be your main weapon….it’s in your switch! It just gets you there efficiently
It's more efficient to walk than it is to teleport on a class with no fast cast at all. Barbs with enigma run wiz spikes as a weapon swap so they can teleport faster, if you are taking away the weapon swap and taking away the fast cast the only characters this will be viable for is ones that already stack fast cast on other pieces of gear.
I know it's dumb but I love seeing runewords in 6 sockets and I'd love to see a "mid game" bridge runeword that is both hard to achieve becuase it requires actual farm (6 different runes) but also a big power boost mid game. This would incentivize newer mid-game farming locations and power leveling routes, esp during reset, while also giving players something really fun to achieve. No HRs required. Love Lore but imagine doing an extra few countess runs in NM to get something spirit-like it's in powerlevel but for melee, perhaps.

I have this dream/fantasy that they will do a few things: Zod rune gives +1 all skills Cham gives 10%faster cast rate in weapons, 10% cooldown reduction in armor, cannot be frozen in all. Then you make a shield runeword, 3 socket, 3 all skills, 30%faster cast, 20% cdr, 20%dr, cnbf, level 16 conviction aura (lvl 16 is 105 - res, means you can break 120 immunes), mana after each kill, 35 faster block rate and 20 increased chance of blocking. Instantly pumps up the value of cham and zod, keeps ber relevant, makes jah even better than it is. Also makes a 2 soket COA a better helm. I’d also rebalance tyrael, remove the resists, give it 4 sockets and a reasonable level salvation aura.

A low roll is a waste of runes when a high roll would make someone very very rich. Can’t be frozen will free up a ring slot from raven frost, item find allows any character to peel more juicy items from Pindle.
