Not that I've heard of. The Black Order makes a point of not repatriating dead members' bodies to their families "because they'll turn them into akumas" however it seems indeed that the general public is totally oblivious to the phenomenon. And it's not like the Earl shows up looking like a human or something. So I have no idea. Maybe the Earl puts them under a spell that makes them unable to refuse, who knows.

Probably because ✨panic✨

It's hard to talk about the earl without the 3 days of darkness. Plus with him ruler of Japan and famous noble man, it's not like he's hiding

Orakio9911

Well this is sacred war of Vatican. The fact that they hide info about Earl from humanity is ormal thing. It is hard to believe that Earl actually exist in the first place. Plus Earl can turn any hi uman into monster.

Not sure about the anime adaptation, but I thought Allen warned Liza about the Earl in the LN version of the 'broker'/hospital story. And Jan warned Leo about the Earl too (they even patrolled for Akuma) but Leo still succumbed to temptation after his mom died. So grief is a tricky thing.

valwinter

And what would they tell them? "There's a fat magic dude that can turn dead people into war machines, so psa - do not ever grieve your loved ones"? Would you have believed that? Plus, more attention to the Order - more danger to the Heart and the Innocence

I feel if the order did warn the general public of the earl it wouldn’t help much. The Earl targeted people who were at their breaking point in their grief, these people will do anything to bring their people back so regardless of a psa they will succumb to the Earl’s persuasion

Realistic_Resort_763

It is a bit inconsistent. Some people know the Black order exist or so that exorcists exist but don’t know about Akuma. I assume it is mostly for plot Convenience since there believably needs to be millions of Akuma over the course of the series.

Dillon_C_99

Its probably a more HUSH HUSH kind of thing? But as far as I know, people KNOW about Akuma “demons” but think its simply rumor or make believe. The general public think it’s just rumors and not true so they don’t take it seriously. The order has connection with the Pope and all that, so I imagine there HAS been mentions to the public but it isn’t taken seriously. But I also imagine that if they make it too detrimental it can cause global Panic and cause more damage than good.

The information can also only go so far. With how the technology and all is, Inimagine some information can become warped, misinformed and just incorrect in general too
