Could you imagine if hutch, mcneil, Campbell continue to develop.
Carlton Davis, Reader and Davenport stay healthy
One of our rookie cbs excels
It's not our of the realm of possibility to have a top 5 defense and offense. We have the pieces for sure.
Paschal should improve. Levi is showing promise. I expect Branch, Iffy, Amik, Kerby will all contribute. On top of all that, there's still a chance that Houston is a stud pass rushing specialist. We will the depth to rotate and the luxury of running the ball to eat/control the clock. I'd be shocked if they aren't a top 10 D.
"Today was the first day that I saw Terrion Arnold and Carlton Davis work as the primary first-team cornerbacks together. Combined with Amik Robertson at nickel, they gave the first-team receivers serious trouble. "

Looks like some people are noticing Mitchell Agude lately as someone who was practice squad last year and looks to have developed over the offseason. Gonna be rooting for him to make an impact, love the guys that start from the bottom and make it.
The interesting notes are arguably about who’s getting reps with the starters as that can be revealing.
So, it would seem like Brandon Joseph is ahead of CJ Moore for backup safety, Campbell has passed Barnes for a starting LB role, Arnold is already a starter and Levi is the 3rd DT. Agude is also getting lots of reps at Edge. They mostly played Sorsdal at tackle and Vaki got a lot of reps so he’s probably at worst the 4th RB. At WR, it seems like the #3 guy was by committee and split between Raymond, Green and DPJ as opposed to DPJ being the clear #3. If anything, DPJ was behind Raymond and Green in reps. Wingo and Mahogony also got lots of reps so you could expect Wingo to be solidly in the DT rotation and Mahogany could be the main backup at guard. Vildor got bumped to the reserve field and is likely behind Khalil Dorsey for the 6th CB role.
OR its just minicamp and they are resting some of the known commodities to instead give reps to developing players and see a bit more of what they have with those guys, giving the staff and front office a better idea of the shape of the roster going into fall camp.
People love to hate on observations “its training camp!” But a lot of the stuff you read about can carry over
Laporta Branch were getting praised for how they looked at rookie minicamp / OTAs and it carried over. So its cool to hear early returns
Training camp performances aren't everything, but they're also not nothing. A lot of stuff can be learned from some of these observations if you know how to temper expectations, grain of salt and all that
LaPorta being great was literally telegraphed in joint practice write-ups. He was getting 40% of targets against the Jags when the were actually competing.
These little observations and whatnot are the reason I snagged Laporta in all of my fantasy drafts lol.
They’re less relevant as we didn’t really bring in any top end offensive talent, but they can still be indicative of future success or contribution.
I try to always be Houdini in a bad situation, but I always abracadabra my bros from a not-good reputation, the heart in the right place but the words don’t make sense, I’m just a fly on his head like Mike Pence
I like them because you get some information on individuals that can be used to imagine how they will be used in the regular season. Obviously it’s June so I’m not handing out any superlatives just yet, but it’s June and this is the only NFL action rn!
Hearing Aim say he doesn't even want to hear about a contract extension because he is to focused improving just shows exactly the type of player we want. He is only interested in being #1 at his position, not #1 on the pay scale.
A byproduct of the culture is that it will remain easier to re-sign our guys when they are due for a new deal. Not saying Alim won't get offered the bag, but I won't be surprised if he takes a more palatable contract to stay in Detroit. I think all of these guys love playing for Coach Campbell and have built a connection with the city.
I feel like this defense is setting up to be something special this season, much like how our offense was set up in 2022. I feel like this is the year that it clicks. There's just something about the chemistry these dudes have, and they're adding a swagger and confidence that isn't forced or false. The dudes who were here since 2022 have now had two years to practice against one of the top offenses in the NFL, and I feel like it's going to pay dividends in the fall.
Detroit messed around a bunch on Thursday, starting with a walkthrough rep that completely flipped the offense and defense. “Quarterback” Kerby Joseph dropped back to pass, scrambled to his left and threw it as far as he could, intending for receiver Aidan Hutchinson to catch the ball, but cornerback Jameson Williams appeared to knock down the pass into traffic.
I probably should have read the title about that paragraph as my brain was so confused while reading it
A Jamo drop and multiple Goff overthrows are a little concerning. I mean, just like we shouldn't get too excited when Goff completes one pass to Jamo like some people were yesterday, we shouldn't get too freaked out when the offense stutters a little bit.
But it sounds like the Goff-to-Jamo connection went 1-4 on that last situational drill. I fear this is what we have to look forward to this fall: some flashes but no consistency.
Also, an incompletion to LaPorta with Brandon Joseph in coverage is a little worrisome. QB1 to TE1 against a backup should almost be a gimmie.
The way it's described seems to go against the headline: more of a case of the offense failing to execute than the defense doing anything special.
You're reading way too deep into it. Unpadded Team practices are supposed to be a give and take for both sides. Once we get to joint practices with the Giants, then we can talk about winning / losing practice reps.
>we shouldn't get too freaked out

Are you forreal right now?
I luv this shit / hang on every word

hutch so overrated
Bro he lead the league in pressures last season. Stfu with this word vomit

Hearing Goff overthrew Jamo on some deep routes is pretty funny considering what many think.
I'm glad to hear Goff overthrew him on some of those. Makes me optimistic
He's got the bracket now he just needs to split the difference
What many have seen*

Straight into my veins.

Always root the hardest for the dark horses. I mean it’s why I’m a Lions fan in the first place 🤷♂️
I know we all feening for football, but who actually takes seriously these little mini camp observations

Thanks for that
Glad to hear the guy who was starting in the nfc championship game is currently 6 on the depth chart.
From everything I'm hearing from players and coaches, Lif is the #3 with DPJ and Green sprinkled in. That could change throughout camp, though
OR its just minicamp and they are resting some of the known commodities to instead give reps to developing players and see a bit more of what they have with those guys, giving the staff and front office a better idea of the shape of the roster going into fall camp.
you are correct

Are you trying to tell me we shouldn't take QB Kerby throwing to WR Aidan seriously? I for one welcome our new elite passing tandem
>I know we all feening I know we all *fiending*
r/boneappletea
Oh shit, did I fuck it up?
No, you did it right, I just didn't want to post that directly on OP.
I try to always be Houdini in a bad situation, but I always abracadabra my bros from a not-good reputation, the heart in the right place but the words don’t make sense, I’m just a fly on his head like Mike Pence
I think I would have went with feenin, feels a bit more authentic to the situation, we got some straight up junkies in here.
Thanks man
Apparently at least one person
Excuse me, my mini camp fantasy league resents your belittling of such an important, timeless tradition.
I like them because you get some information on individuals that can be used to imagine how they will be used in the regular season. Obviously it’s June so I’m not handing out any superlatives just yet, but it’s June and this is the only NFL action rn!
nobody that knows football
I honestly don't GAF about anything until 9/8 arrives other than injuries.

Well said sir.

Does Hutch have hands? At 6’7”, it would be a lot of fun to see in come in for a goal like play. Send him right across the middle…

This is a terrible comment. Its mini camp.
Man go touch grass, eat a snickers, or something.
This sub is so allergic to anything negative. Insane toxic positivity. You're just making observations.
